[Bug 1852071] Re: [HP ZBook Studio G5, Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS] Brightness function keys works as microphone mute function keys

2020-02-18 Thread Marcin P
Hi Jarkko,

Thank you very much for your response! I did the procedure you described and it
solved the problem! Brightness function keys started working properly in Ubuntu.
I repeated this procedure on other ZBook Studio G5 laptops we have here and it
also did the job.
However! I have dual boot - after logging into Windows 10 (where buttons always
work perfectly fine) and then logging again into Ubuntu brightness keys stopped
working again (they were recognized as Microphone key, again). I had to do the
Power Reset procedure once more which fixed the issue in Ubuntu.
After testing multiple restarts Ubuntu -> Ubuntu: brightness function keys are
always working fine.
After just one Ubuntu -> Windows -> Ubuntu restart: brightness function keys
stop working in Ubuntu (but work fine in Windows).

So each time after I used Windows I must do the Power Reset procedure if
I want to have brightness function keys working in Ubuntu.

Yes this is for Core 18, if pc-kernel in Core 20 is not leverage this

[Bug 1863759] Re: CPUs stuck during boot after 19.10 upgrade to 5.3.0-40

Just for the record - the only way I can boot 5.3.0-40 on the hardware
mentioned in previous message is to use the "nomodeset" parameter,

[Bug 1863759] Re: CPUs stuck during boot after 19.10 upgrade to 5.3.0-40

2020-02-18 Thread Andrei Belov
Which hardware are you on?

I'm seeing exactly the same behavior on Ubuntu 19.10 and KDE Neon on
Lenovo Ideapad S340-14API with AMD Ryzen 3200U / Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx
on board.

The 5.3.0-28 kernel works just fine, while 5.3.0-40 shows the following effect:
 - on Ubuntu 19.10, booting never ends due to random "BUG: soft lockup - CPU#xx
stuck for 23s! [system-udevd:383]" events, thus causing various jobs/services
to hang forever;
 - on KDE Neon, I'm seeing failures with amdgpu driver somewhere in
amdgpu_mm_rreg with a call trace ending with gfx_v9_0_set_safe_mode() call.

Appreciate any input.

[Bug 1863801] Re: [snap] chromium crashes when file picker is called to upload files or folders

2020-02-18 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Looks like this problem affects only 20.04 ?
I briefly had a similar issue on Monday where saving any PDF file open in
chromium would crash the browser before the save as dialog got a chance to
appear. But it's now gone, and I have verified that I can upload files too.
Tested on my work laptop running a rather bloated 20.04, and in a clean 20.04
VM.

[Bug 1856428] Re: Disable TLS below 1.2 by default

2020-02-18 Thread James Henstridge
For anyone who finds this bug, and wonders about the "Users can override
this behaviour with a config file" part, here's what I did to get an
OpenSSL-using application to talk to an old server that only supported
TLSv1 (in my case, an old Mumble server):

1. create an "openssl.cnf" file somewhere with the following contents:

openssl_conf = openssl_init

[openssl_init]
ssl_conf = ssl_sect

[ssl_sect]
system_default = system_default_sect

[system_default_sect]
CipherString = DEFAULT@SECLEVEL=1

2. set the OPENSSL_CONF environment variable to this file's path when
running the application.

I wouldn't recommend making the change to the global
/etc/ssl/openssl.cnf, or setting $OPENSSL_CONF for situations where it
isn't needed, since this does reduce the default security.

[Bug 1857051] Re: Please add ${distro_id}ESM:${distro_codename}-infra-security and ${distro_id}ESMApps:${distro_codename}-apps-security to allowed origins (on Ubuntu)

2020-02-18 Thread Chad Smith
### Verification Failure??? of ESM-infra for Eoan

Not much to verify here. The ESM-infra and ESM-Apps services are only
targeted to support LTS releases of Ubuntu, so ubuntu-advantage-tools
will not even allow enabling ESM services on Eoan.

As such, I don't think we should be targeting Eoan for this APT Allowed
Origin APT config changeset.

marking verification-failed-eoan so someone can confirm if the intent
here was to keep APT configuration the same in all releases when you
SRU this change back to trusty.

2020-02-18 Thread Chad Smith
Note for expected results on a typical Eoan system while trying to `ua
enable esm-infra`

One moment, checking your subscription first
ESM Infra is not available for Ubuntu 19.10 (Eoan Ermine).

So no ESM APT repos should be accessible on Eoan systems per product design.

Hi Łukasz, Also there is a trusty series task on this bug, I'm unsure

[Bug 1863834] [NEW] [bionic] updates to Exar USB serial driver

2020-02-18 Thread Shrirang Bagul
Public bug reported:

[SRU Justification]

[Impact]
This update adds the latest vendor release version on the Exar USB serial
device.

[Fixes]
New features include:
1. Fix for RX fail after wake-up from sleep (S3/S4)
2. Removes unnecessary debug messages

Changelog:

Version 1B, 11/6/2015
Fixed Bug: The conditional logic to support kernel 3.9 was
incorrect(line 396 in xr_usb_serial_common.c).

Version 1A, 1/9/2015
This driver will work with any USB UART function in these Exar devices:
XR21V1410/1412/1414
XR21B1411
XR21B1420/1422/1424
XR22801/802/804

Exar serial devices are typically enumerated as /dev/ttyXRUSB[0-3].

[Regression Potential]
Low. This driver binds to Exar USB Serial devices on the Dell Edge 300x GW.
These updates are being carried in the linux-oem (4.15.y) kernel for more than
2 years without any regressions.

This bug is for tracking purposes only, please don't triage.

[Bug 1835114] Re: [MIR] ec2-instance-connect

2020-02-18 Thread Seth Arnold
That's got to be my one super-power -- asking a question and finding out
that no, I didn't find a bug, but by asking the question someone *else*
spots a bug.

How about this?

# Derive a sigv4 signing key for the given secret
# get_sigv4_key [key] [datestamp] [region name] [service name]
getsigv4key () {
base="$(/bin/echo -n "AWS4${1}" | /usr/bin/od -A n -t x1 | /bin/sed
':a;N;$!ba;s/[\n ]//g')"
kdate="$(sign "${base}" "${2}")"
kregion="$(sign "${kdate}" "${3}")"
kservice="$(sign "${kregion}" "${4}")"
sign "${kservice}" "aws4_request"
}

This appears to execute /bin/echo with a key as a parameter, where it may be
visible to ps(1) output or /proc/*/cmdline.

What's the consequences of exposing this key to all users on the
computer?

Thanks

Maybe I gave the wrong advice. Try: HEAP_PROFILE_ONLY_MMAP=true

I know that once you successfully have that set then the performance
overhead goes away.

The 5.3.0 HWE kernel also works, which means we now have a good
workaround while we debug things.

[Bug 1843873] Re: Sound distored on Hades Canyon NUC

2020-02-18 Thread Simon Poet
Tried again with Ubuntu 18.04 upgraded the kernal to
5.5.0-050500-generic still having problems, also tried the following
drivers

https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/radeon-rx-vega-series/radeon-rx-
vega-series/radeon-rx-vega-64

As per the link from this page

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28600/Radeon-RX-Vega-M
-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-64-bit-for-NUC8i7HNK-
NUC8i7HVK?product=126143

They didn't work but then again these are drivers for vega-64 rather
than vega-M

[Bug 1856516] Re: Excessive memory usage by gnome-shell in 19.10

2020-02-18 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hm. The gperftools profiler appears to have a catastrophic performance
impact on gnome-shell - it takes multiple minutes to go from login
screen to an idle desktop (there's also the problem that setting the
environment variable means *all* programs in the session profiled,
because they're all children of the shell?).

[Bug 1863627] Re: Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 9560 [8086:9df0] subsystem id [8086:0034] kernel oops in __iwl_mvm_mac_stop

2020-02-18 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Firmware iwlwifi-9000-pu-b0-jf-b0-*.ucode, version core45-152, is
already up to date.

Please try following options separately:

1. mainline kernel: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v5.6-rc2/

While you have also out-of-tree nvidia driver installed, you'll need
*_all.deb, *-generic_* four packages. nvidia may fail to build against
newest mainline kernel, so you may also need special care to that.

2. backport-iwlwifi-dkms:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/backport-iwlwifi-
dkms_8324-0ubuntu1_all.deb

I'm seeing the same here.

Using RedHat 7.7

kernel version: 3.10.0-1062.8.1.el7.x86_64

All 10 of my machines are on the same hardware and rhel7 release. Just the one
machine is reporting this problem. Eventually the machine becomes unusable and
hard reboot is needed.

I had the same problem with OSP on RHEL 7.6

it seems that there was a network problem with my case, if it's relevant
please check network connectivity, and / or IO latency on your VM, check
the logs for that.

good luck

you can also check RAID card as it's common to be defect and causes
problems on servers, and disk I/O latency if there is a disk problem it
will affect the performance, I had this on HDD also for some services
that needed an SSD to be installed and recommended by some Vendor to me.

I checked messages for errors and audit.log, if you are using OSP on
your machines check the related Nova.log ... etc

[Bug 1838796] Re: TPM event log does not contain events measured after ExitBootServices

Hi Marcelo,

I tried to validate the test kernel provided by you in comment 23. I am not
able to load the kernel. When I select the kernel from the grub menu, the
loading gets stuck at "Loading initial ramdisk".

I tried it with secure boot disabled too, just to be sure we are not
making any mistakes with the signing part.

I am not sure if I am missing something here. Can you please help
resolve this?

Thanks
Vinay

[Bug 1844173] Re: libwbclient-sssd package installation does not re-create expected symlink to libwbclient.so.0

2020-02-18 Thread Dan Hill
A recent sssd issue was opened re: libwbclient API version 15 [0].

Upstream sssd plan to deprecate the alternative winbind client library,
which is why they haven't implemented the 0.15 interface. The sssd
library version hasn't maintained feature parity for some years [1].
Upstream recommends using idmap_sss as a winbind plug-in instead, which
is available in the sssd-common package [2].

[Bug 1863797] Re: gdk-pixbuf-thumbnailer fails to create thumbnails for CR2 100% of the time.

2020-02-18 Thread Kristijan Žic 
** Description changed:

  I have been adding "image/x-xpixmap;image/x-canon-cr2;image/x-adobe-dng"
to the end of the line starting with "MimeType=" in the file
  "/usr/share/thumbnailers/gdk-pixbuf-thumbnailer.thumbnailer" since
Ubuntu 18.10 for the thumbnailer to create the thumbnails primarily for
the ".CR2" raw files from my Canon 77D and 80D cameras.

Unfortunately I have to report that as of Ubuntu 19.10 this solution doesn’t
work on my machine anymore.
The thumbnailer tries to create the thumbnails but fails and instead creates
1 pixel png images that it all puts in
"~/.cache/thumbnails/fail/gnome-thumbnail-factory".

Is there any solution? Should I test something?

I've attached a CR2 photo of mine that anyone can use for testing.

I've also created a bug report on gnome gitlab here:
+ https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdk-pixbuf/issues/144

[Bug 1861791] Re: Server incompatible with Focal clients

2020-02-18 Thread James Henstridge
Sure. But if this is controllable from a configuration file, then it
might be possible to come up with a temporary work around until the
server you want to connect to is upgraded. With any luck, the
configuration can be changed in such a way that only Mumble is affected.

[Bug 1863400] Re: gnome-shell reports problem on boot

2020-02-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I forgot to mention: Please also:

  sudo rm /var/crash/*
