[Bug 1864280] [NEW] software-properties-gtk removes [arch=amd64]

2020-02-21 Thread Dark Dragon
Public bug reported:

When editing apt sources via software-properties-gtk, additional options
like [arch=amd64] are removed. With more and more repositories
deprecating i386, this problem becomes more and more important.

The merged code in focal has been tested in production and resolved this
issue. We have images failing with this issue at least in eoan so a
short SRU cycle is desired.

[Bug 1864252] Re: preseeded snap installs fail in images

2020-02-21 Thread Robert C Jennings
All of the MPs have been tested per the plan in the description. For
eoan (where we have lxd seeded in the base image) the ubuntu-cpc project
was built and the qcow2 image booted in kvm to verify the snaps. For
bionic and xenial (where no snaps are seeded in the image set) I tested
with the ubuntu-cpc project with a binary hook that seeded lxd.

[Bug 1864164] Re: virt-customize fails with "host cpu (x86_64) and guest arch (s390x) are not compatible" when running on s390x host

2020-02-21 Thread Richard Jones
I couldn't yet find build logs for Ubuntu, but for Debian they are correct
(https://buildd.debian.org/status/logs.php?pkg=libguestfs=1%3A1.40.2-7%2Bb1=s390x).

You should see in the ./configure step:

checking host CPU and C ABI... s390x
...
config.status: creating common/mlstdutils/guestfs_config.ml

This would put the string "s390x" into Guestfs_config.host_cpu, which would
be copied to virt-customize and printed in that error message.

[Bug 1864252] Re: preseeded snap installs fail in images

2020-02-21 Thread Robert C Jennings
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

Images built with pre-seeded snaps contain insufficient assertion data
  causing boot to fail.

The snaps for seeding are downloaded with a custom snap tool for an
earlier cohort API (now deprecated). The assertions that it pulls are
incomplete. We could update that list and move to the new API but at
this time the snap-tool provides no value compared to use of the snap
CLI (cohort support has moved to the cli as well). The development
overhead of maintaining snap-tool in livecd-rootfs are not warranted.

This patch removes the bespoke snap-tool and relies on the snap CLI
  instead.

+  * The interface for these two tools is consistent and the output should
be the same. There's always a chance that snap-tool had quirks which a
move to the snap CLI uncovers, where the result would be different snaps
seeded from before the change. An example would be channel differences
before and after this change. I haven't seen issues in my testing and I
do think it's unlikely, mostly I'm suspicious of SRUs that don't list
  any regression potentials.

Hi,

cat /var/log/messages.log | grep -i error >> messages-errors.txt
cat /var/log/nova/nova.log | grep -i error >> nova-errors.txt
cat /var/log/audit/audit.log | grep -i error >> audit-errors.txt

in your home directory you will find the .txt files

take time to trace errors, maybe you will find answers.

if you have a Power-edge servers (DELL), the RC (RAID - Controller)
problem is common.

Otherwise you may have to check Network connections between server and switch,
replace the UTP cables, and ping the other servers, rabbitMQ in OSP is
depending on heart-beat to sync between servers, if the Heartbeat fails it
causes this.

Best regards

[Bug 1864274] [NEW] crunchy pixels

2020-02-21 Thread Seth Arnold
Public bug reported:

Hello, after upgrading firefox (and many other packages) on focal today,
I've got some video artifacts in firefox.

When typing in text boxes and text fields, the new character is drawn
very slowly, pixel-by-pixel, and isn't complete until the cursor has
moved on. When larger portions of the screen are updated, it looks a lot
like the entire window is being run through a video codec or you can see
parts of the video memory from other processes. (But it looks more
deliberate and predictable than either of these descriptions.)

So far Firefox is the only application I've found that is affected.
urxvt, libreoffice, xfontsel, glxgears all seem to work as expected.

I did get cairo package update today, but the changelog is just:

pango1.0 (1.44.7-1ubuntu2) focal; urgency=medium
  * No-change rebuild with fixed binutils on arm64.
 -- Matthias Klose Sat, 08 Feb 2020 11:15:23 +

And an xorg update:

xorg (1:7.7+19ubuntu14) focal; urgency=medium
  * No-change rebuild with fixed binutils on arm64.
 -- Matthias Klose Sat, 08 Feb 2020 11:21:28 +

So I don't believe these are involved.

[Bug 1863514]

2020-02-21 Thread Gingerbread-man-2
> Component: Address Bar → Protections UI

Firefox :: Protections UI - "For bugs and feature requests in Firefox’s
Anti-Tracking Protections UI such as the Protection Panel and the
Protection Report."

Please explain this move. This is about the entirety of the address bar
and it doesn't have anything to do with anti-tracking. Even Firefox ::
Site Identity would make more sense, even though this extends beyond the
padlock.

[Bug 711061] Re: [MIR] openjpeg2

2020-02-21 Thread Mathew Hodson
** Description changed:

openjpeg should be included in main because compiling poppler with
--enable-openjpeg in debian/rules gives poppler greater functionality
(please see bug 710412). Since this change to /debian/rules adds
openjpeg as a build-dep to poppler, which is in main, openjpeg must also
  be in main.

- ImageMagick also needs openjpeg in main so it can be built with JPEG2000
support.
-  (LP: #1447968)
+ ImageMagick also needs openjpeg in main so it can be built with JPEG2000
+ support. (LP: #1447968)

  Main inclusion requirements:

  1. It is already in universe.

  2. The package is a new build-dep and has a large user base (think
  evince).

  3. Searching
  https://secuniaresearch.flexerasoftware.com/community/advisories/search/
  for openjpeg gave zero results.

  4. openjpeg has no current Ubuntu bugs
  (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjpeg2)

  Debian bugs at https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
  bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=openjpeg2

openjpeg does not require any configuration or debconf questions.

  5. N/A

  6. All build-deps are already included in main.

  7. I am afraid that this is a bit over my head. Hopefully, someone else
could ensure that this package meets the requirements here. Based on its
long inclusion in Debian and Ubuntu, I think that it should be alright
  here.

  8. This is a fairly simple program that doesn't need too much
maintenance as shown by the bug reports.

  9. The package title and description seem to be in order.

[Bug 1864061] Re: PCI/internal sound card not detected

2020-02-21 Thread Hui Wang
The -41 introduced this commit from stable kernel, after reverting it,
the sof driver will not print calltrace anymore (#4). And the kernle-5.4
(focal) also backported this commit, but it doesn't introduce the
calltrace in the 5.4 kernel. So it looks like to backport this commit to
5.3, we need something else which is not in kernel-5.3 but is in the
kernel-5.4.

commit 063821115e02229d5fd3de31bad270d5e30aeb41
Author: Dragos Tarcatu
Date: Mon Dec 9 18:39:38 2019 -0600

ASoC: topology: Check return value for snd_soc_add_dai_link()

BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1861929

[ Upstream commit 76d2703649321c296df7ec0dafd50add96215de4 ]

snd_soc_add_dai_link() might fail. This situation occurs for
instance in a very specific use case where a PCM device and a
Back End DAI link are given identical names in the topology.
When this happens, soc_new_pcm_runtime() fails and then
snd_soc_add_dai_link() returns -ENOMEM when called from
soc_tplg_fe_link_create(). Because of that, the link will not
get added into the card list, so any attempt to remove it later
ends up in a panic.

Fix that by checking the return status and free the memory in case
of an error.

screen) and there's a "ubi-console-setup failed with exit code 141"
after setting the timezone; later (after ignore) the installation
  completely fails.

And yes, I just correctly downloaded and burned a 64bit kUbuntu Desktop
  13.04 image from kubuntu.org.

  Try it!

- Install kUbuntu in German (Deutsch) / Swiss German Keyboard (Deusch
+ Install kUbuntu in German (Deutsch) / Swiss German Keyboard (DeuTsch
  Schweiz), selected already at boot.

  Second try:

Boot without language/keyboard selection. Start live desktop. Go to
system settings, setup german language and swiss-german keyboard (I
*need* that! ever tried to enter password with another keyboard
layout?!?). Start installer in german (note I always choose encrypted
LVM). Set timezone to Switzerland. This time, I arrive at the keyboard
selection. There is no "Deutsch (Schweiz)" ("German (Switzerland)") only
Austria is represented - why?!? - ok, there's Schweiz (Switzerland), so
I choose it from the combo-box -> immediately crashes!

  "Installer Crashed" Traceback /usr/lib/ubiquity/plugin.py line 48 ...

No, I cannot provide you with log files, since I cannot setup a system

[Bug 1853044] Re: 5.3.0-23-generic causes fans to spin when idle

2020-02-21 Thread Dean Henrichsmeyer
The kernel from Andrea has been stable for me (no GPU hangs). The fans
seem to come on a little more than they did with the previous kernel
from Colin but certainly it's much better than the vanilla 5.4 was.

[Bug 1861462] Re: Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 7th Gen doesn't suspend and resume

2020-02-21 Thread Dean Henrichsmeyer
In my case, this turned out to be the kernel crashing when the e1000e
module was removed. I rmmod'd that in rc.local because when I originally
purchased the laptop, that module would suck power and battery life.

When I stop removing that module, the kernel doesn't crash and suspend,
shutdown, etc, all work as designed. I can file a separate bug about
that crash if you prefer or paste the crash here.

[Bug 1864261] [NEW] Bionic update: upstream stable patchset 2020-02-21

2020-02-21 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

necessary to increase DPI to 192 else GTK applications are too small for

[Bug 1864256] [NEW] Network-manager-strongswan does not update DNS in systemd-resolved

2020-02-21 Thread Julian Petri
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu release: 19.10
Package version: 1.4.4-2

Situation:
I have configured an IKEv2/IPsec connection to my workplace in the Network
Manager GUI. Two IPv4 DNS servers separated by commas are configured in the
connection profile and "Automatic" is turned off for DNS.
The connection starts up fine and I can ping machines in the remote network.

Expectation:
The two DNS servers will be configured using systemd-resolved so they are used
to resolve remote machine names.
systemd-resolve --status | grep "Servers"
is supposed two show the two servers.

What happened instead:
systemd-resolve --status | grep "Servers"
only shows my local DNS server, just as before the VPN connection was
established. Restarting systemd-resolved.service does not change this.

** Affects: network-manager-strongswan (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1864252] Re: preseeded snap installs fail in images

2020-02-21 Thread Robert C Jennings
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
Images built with pre-seeded snaps contain insufficient assertion data
- causing boot to fail. The snaps for seeding are downloaded with a
- custom snap tool for an earlier cohort API (now deprecated). The
- assertions that it pulls are incomplete. We could update that list and
- move to the new API but at this time the snap-tool provides no value
- compared to use of the snap CLI (cohort support has moved to the cli as
- well). The development overhead of maintaining snap-tool in livecd-
- rootfs are not warranted.
+ causing boot to fail.
+
+ The snaps for seeding are downloaded with a custom snap tool for an

+ This patch removes the bespoke snap-tool and relies on the snap CLI

+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Produce images that include preseeded snaps (in
+ /var/lib/snapd/seed/*)
+
+ * Boot the resulting image and ensure that the snapd.seeded unit is
+ successful and the snaps (from the correct channels) show up in 'snap
+ list'
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * The interface for these two tools is consistent and the output should
+ be the same. There's always a chance that snap-tool had quirks which a
+ move to the snap CLI uncovers, where the result would be different snaps
+ seeded from before the change. An example would be channel differences
+ before and after this change. I haven't seen issues in my testing and I
+ do think it's unlikely, mostly I'm suspicious of SRUs that don't list
+ any regression potentials.

[Bug 1864253] [NEW] Pulseaudio sink/source selection, weird behaviour.

2020-02-21 Thread Matthias Kohler
Public bug reported:

I have a Laptop connected to an USB-C dock. By default the docks analog
audio output is chosen as the default pulse audio sink. I want that the
analog output of the Laptop is the default, hence I configured this in
/etc/pulse/default.py

This does not work and journalctl informs me that the device chosen by me
(alsa_output.pci-_00_1f.3.analog-stereo) does not exist, see attached output
from journalctl.

I have followed Workaround 1 here https://wiki.debian.org/BluetoothUser/a2dp
to prevent pulseaudio getting started in gdm to prevent device capture.

This does not work, the device does still not exist.
Restarting pulseaudio sometimes, but not always sets the configured
default sink. Furthermore plugging in the headphones in the Laptops analog input
switches audio to the dock.

[Bug 1864252] [NEW] preseeded snap installs fail in images

2020-02-21 Thread Robert C Jennings
Public bug reported:

Images built with pre-seeded snaps contain insufficient assertion data
causing boot to fail. The snaps for seeding are downloaded with a
custom snap tool for an earlier cohort API (now deprecated). The
assertions that it pulls are incomplete. We could update that list and
move to the new API but at this time the snap-tool provides no value
compared to use of the snap CLI (cohort support has moved to the cli as
well). The development overhead of maintaining snap-tool in livecd-
rootfs are not warranted.
