[Bug 1859116] Re: package update-notifier-common 0.154.1 failed to install/upgrade: pre-dependency problem - not installing update-notifier-common

2020-03-10 Thread Steve Langasek
Your dpkg log shows you are upgrading:

apt:amd64 (1.0.1ubuntu2.24, 1.6.12)
update-notifier-common:amd64 (0.154.1, 3.192.1.7)

So somehow you were attempting to do an upgrade directly from Ubuntu
14.04 to Ubuntu 18.04, which is not supported.

[Bug 1865371] Re: Mouse Cursor or Touchpad indicator/pointer not working

2020-03-10 Thread James Henstridge
I noticed something like this on my desktop system after upgrading. It
only seems to affect Wayland sessions (i.e. GDM login screen and Ubuntu
on Wayland). The mouse still works (i.e. desktop responds to clicks),
but no cursor is drawn. Everything seems fine on my laptop though.

The main differences between the two systems are:

1. Radeon graphics on the desktop vs. Intel on the laptop
2. dual monitors on the desktop
3. The desktop is using a "Thinkpad Compact USB Keyboard" as the mouse (i.e.
single USB device exposing two HID interfaces).

Given that the reporter here is using an AMD APU, I wonder if this is an
interaction between gnome-shell and the radeon driver?

[Bug 1866921] Re: i do not know this bug appears its own

2020-03-10 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Was this a "System problem detected" and you were asked to submit this
bug? If so please just say so. (and please just ignore the rest of my
comment)

If however you initiated this bug report, unfortunately, we cannot work
on this bug because your description didn't include enough information.
You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1862706] Re: segfaults, dpkg script failures

2020-03-10 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello Colin, I'm not sure:

- I'm now on 5.4.0-17-generic to try to debug a different issue

- I believe I've fixed all the datasets that were failing to mount at
boot time due to unexpected files or directories in the mountpoints

- I don't know why zfs was segfaulting in the first place: it was my
guess that it was handling the unmountable datasets very poorly, but
that's a big guess. (A simple test of this now doesn't segfault.)

I'm not confident that this been fixed; however, it's probably worth
ignoring this issue for the time being. (Bug 1861359 feels far more
important than this one, for example.)

Thanks

[Bug 1866881] Re: Autopkgtest regression triggered by Ruby 2.7

2020-03-10 Thread Bryce Harrington
Can you identify if this is intended to be a temporary fix, or a normal
fix?

If it's just temporary, to test out if disabling the test is ok, then +1
to land it.

However, if this is intended to be a semi-permanent fix to the problem,
a couple suggestions:

* Explain in whatever detail is available, what you think is causing the
test failure. So when someone restores the test some day, they'll have
some idea on what to check.

* A link to a debian or upstream discussion/ticket about the issue would
be a nice-to-have

[Bug 1866926] Re: usb_modeswitch does not switch modems (remain visible as mass storage)

2020-03-10 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1866926/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Public bug reported:

when I click on the Activities button and try to start an application my
X session freezes. I can move the mouse around and bring up the dock on
the side of the screen, but no windows will come up. This problem does
not come up if I open applications from the applications menu, dock, or
terminal. I can only solve it by logging out and logging back in.

[Bug 1866930] [NEW] [FFe] ec2 add support for configuring secondary ipv4 and ipv6 addresses

2020-03-10 Thread Chad Smith
Public bug reported:

Ec2's IMDS metadata reports network configuration that for any secondary
IPv4 and IPv6 addresses that a person has created and attached to the
NIC at launch.

Cloud-init should add static IP configuration for any secondary IPv4 of
IPv6 addresses that a user has configured and attached to their
instances so that network configuration work doesn't have to be done
manually after initial system boot.

To retain original behavior of stable ubuntu releases, ensure this
automatic secondary IP address configuration can also be disabled.

[Bug 1866929] [NEW] gnome-shell crashes when typing on lock screen

2020-03-10 Thread Florian Stuhlmann
Public bug reported:

When the screen is locked, typing anything on the keyboard doesn't lead
to the password prompt. Instead, the desktop / open applications are
shown for a few seconds, but the session is not unlocked, the gnome-
shell crashes and the lock screen is back on. After that, the kernel log
says:

If libreoffice is open during this procedure, it is killed. The kernel
log says:

- [Fix]
+ I have tested the package without access to hardware, and the help
+ commands work as expected:
+
+ https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/FhJwc6wscC/
+
  [Regression Risk]
+
+ I believe that this SRU falls under the "Other safe cases" category under
+ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Other_safe_cases
+
+ This SRU fulfills the first three cases for applicability while also
+ improving the user experience of those with Toshiba NVMe devices.
+
+ For case one:
+ (1) has an obviously safe patch: We are adding a standalone plugin separated
completely from existing code, since it is implemented down the new "nvme
toshiba" code path. The patch itself only reads hardware registers and prints
the contents to the console, and does not do anything too serious.
+ (2) "affects an application" - changes are limited to nvme-cli only, as
kernel support is already present.
+
+ For case two:
+ This SRU will enable the use of Toshiba NVMe devices, while not affecting any
existing NVMe devices from other manufacturers, since the subcommand is
implemented alongside other manufactures subcommands, and does not modify any
existing code.
+
+ For case three:
+ The changes are unintrusive, again, to being limited to plugin which
implements a new subcommand. The code itself is simplistic, and has not been
dramatically modified since it first landed in upstream compared to the present
day. The feature landed in nvme-cli version 1.6, which appears in cosmic
onwards, meaning upgrading from bionic to a newer release will not cause
upgrade regressions.
+
+ I did a diff of the proposed patch to the current upstream master
+ branch, and the new changes are more or less cosmetic:
+
+ https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/TBy3HbPGV6/
+
+ If you want to review each commit to current master branch, I have
+ provided them below:
+
+ e5786ad argconfig: Remove unused paramters
+ 1d37bc9 nvme-cli: Code cleanup
+ 507ded5 nvme-vendor: fix c99 declarations in vendor plugins
+ f392181 Refactor plugins in a file hierarchy
+
+ We have included one fixup commit already in this SRU, check [Other
+ Info] for details.
+
+ I will ask a customer to test the package on real hardware soon, and try
+ and get a printout of their session.
+
+ As such, I believe this will not introduce any regressions. If a
+ regression were to happen it would be limited to the "nvme toshiba"
+ subcommand, and not any other nvme-cli functionality.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ The commits which add support for Toshiba devices are:

[Bug 1866928] [NEW] app does not allow "select all" content

2020-03-10 Thread bzb001
Public bug reported:

Lubuntu 19.10
qterminal 0.14.1

This app currently does not permit a menu item to select all content in
the console. A shortcut key would also be convenient.

Permitting a "select all" menu item would allow a user to quickly select
all contents displayed in the console for processing in another
application (eg. editor). Currently, qterminal only allows mouse
highlighting. If there is a lot of text, it becomes time consuming.

[Bug 1866926] [NEW] usb_modeswitch does not switch modems (remain visible as mass storage)

2020-03-10 Thread Mariusz Dykierek
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Ubuntu focal fossa development branch the usb_modeswitch
does not seem to work any more on a Toshiba laptop.
Two modems I have D-Link DWM-156 and Huawei E3372 show up as drives and stay
like that until I use "Eject" in Gnome or explicitly use usb_modeswitch from
the terminal.
I have a strong feeling that it may either be related to Gnome or hardware.
On another Dell laptop with Kubuntu focal fossa development, both modems
connect automatically.

/var/log/usb_modeswitch.log ends with:
Warning: SCSI attribute "ref" not readable.
Check class of first interface ...
Device is in istall mode.
No access to interface 8. Exit

Up until and including the "ref" not readable is exactly the same as on Kubuntu
@ Dell.
Yet on Kubuntu I get plenty of successful config logs after that and on Ubuntu
@ Toshiba I don't.

[Bug 1866925] [NEW] wrong gcc version for kernel prevents DKMS working

2020-03-10 Thread David Hodgson
Public bug reported:

Fresh install of minimal LUbuntu 18.04, fully updated (with new kernel).

Install of NVIDIA graphics card drivers from NVIDIA script.

DKMS (needed for re-compile with new kernel versions) fails as the
available gcc is 7.5.0 from 18.04 and the gcc used for compiling the
kernel was 7.4.0 from 18.01.

The gcc for the running kernel is no longer available for installation.

This mismatch is the bug.

There are two alternative solutions:
1. ensure the gcc versions used to compile the available kernels are also
available.
2. ensure the kernels are always compiled with the latest available gcc.

The former is probably a better solution as the latter may cause
unnecessary kernel recompiles as the gcc versions change. The former
may require multiple installed versions of gcc, one for each installed
kernel version, which would need a method of picking the gcc version
which matches the kernel.

It would also be useful if one of the meta-packages ensured that the
installed gcc matches the installed kernel's compiler.

```
$ uname -a
Linux xx 5.3.0-40-generic #32~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 3 14:05:59 UTC
```
```
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
Release:18.04
```

... I'm sorry, but the DKMS make.log with the error has been deleted by
a later re-run attempt for the install.

[Bug 1866923] [NEW] Wifi connection says it's connected but this is not true after the computer goes into a sleep status

2020-03-10 Thread Paul
Public bug reported:

The wifi is connected and working correctly when powered on, however
when I close the laptop lid, which I think puts it to sleep, and then
reopen it, it says it's connected according to the icon but this is not
true.

A workaround is turning on Airplane mode and then switching it back on
again. It then reconnects and is then fine again. Unless I close the lid
and then the process repeats again.

I guess this is to do with the wifi driver but I don't know what package
it is so I just picked network-manager, sorry - I'm trying :)

[Bug 1866877] Re: Autopkgtest regression trigerred by Ruby 2.7

2020-03-10 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
I uploaded coderay version 1.1.2-3 to Debian unstable [1] and it fixes
this regression:

autopkgtest [19:13:22]: summary

So when it lands in Debian unstable we just need to sync it.

[Bug 1861304] Re: libmysqlclient-dev will not install with libssl1.0-dev

2020-03-10 Thread David Cunningham
I see, thank you. It's a shame that MySQL would make such a change
within a major version. We have worked as follows, though it's a bit of
a nasty solution:

apt install libmysqlclient-dev # will install libssl-dev as a dependency
apt download libssl1.0-dev # download required package manually
dpkg -r --force-depends libssl-dev # remove libssl-dev without removing
libmysqlclient-dev
dpkg -i libssl1.0-dev_1.0.2n-1ubuntu5.3_amd64.deb # install libssl1.0-dev
manually

Looking at clear_correctable_errors(), we see that cdw12 is set to 0:

The cdw12 struct member is not used at all in nvme-cli 1.5, the version
in bionic, and "54f5e4a Add support for decoding IO Determinism
features" does nothing with the variable. I believe it is safe to drop
cdw12 from nvme_set_feature().

Note, Dann, your patch is wrong, since you drop the wrong parameter. You
are dropping data_len instead of cdw12.

The correct patch is:

I think we can leave the variable definition "const __u32 cdw12 = 0;"

[Bug 1862760] Re: Unreliable 802.11ac connection on our raspi images

2020-03-10 Thread Brian Murray
I've tested this today on both 20.04 (with linux-firmware-raspi2
1.20200212-0ubuntu1~ppa1) and 19.10.1 (with linux-firmware-raspi2
1.20200212-0ubuntu1~19.10.1~ppa1) and neither of them were able to
connect to the 802.11ac access point.

I see the same journal entries mentioned previously:

Mar 10 20:57:10 ubuntu wpa_supplicant[1090]: wlan0: Failed to initiate sched
scan
Mar 10 20:57:18 ubuntu wpa_supplicant[1090]: wlan0: Failed to initiate sched
scan

Additionally, I notice that the output of 'iw dev' shows different
channels and widths than on Raspbian:

Interface wlan0
ifindex 3
wdev 0x1
addr dc:a6:32:37:37:08
type managed
channel 128 (5640 MHz), width: 20 MHz, center1: 5640 MHz
txpower 31.00 dBm

[Bug 1866890] Re: audio card not detected after upgrade to 20.04 (Only Dummy Output appears)

2020-03-10 Thread Eduardo Aguilar Pelaez
I added `options snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0`
at the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
and after restarting the laptop I can now use the headphones and speakers.

Although I managed to fix this,
- could this be resolved for other users?

Many thanks!

Eduardo
