[Bug 1867094] [NEW] Sync jupyter-core 4.6.3-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2020-03-11 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Public bug reported:

Please sync jupyter-core 4.6.3-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

It's a small bug-fix release, drops Python2 support and fixes packaging
bugs.

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Build-depend on python-all.

It drops Python2 support, so python-all is not needed anymore.

Changelog entries since current focal version 4.6.2-1ubuntu1:

jupyter-core (4.6.3-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * d/control: add undeclared runtime dependencies:
python3-ipython-genutils, python3-distutils

 -- Gordon Ball Fri, 06 Mar 2020 18:51:56 +

jupyter-core (4.6.3-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Gordon Ball ]
  * Drop python 2.7 support (Closes: #936774)

 -- Sandro Tosi Wed, 04 Mar 2020 19:27:58 -0500

jupyter-core (4.6.3-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release.
  * Bump standards-version to 4.5.0.

[Bug 1866899] Re: Snap Store can't install or remove snaps on 20.04 (password prompt issue?)

2020-03-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1802614] Re: [MIR] gnome-remote-desktop

2020-03-11 Thread Aaron Watry
Hmm, I was under the impression that VNC and RDP were both supported in
Gnome... sorry about that.

I've been using the Gnome wayland session since it first became
available several releases ago, but I will admit I'm in the minority at
my company. Most of the rest of the engineers on Ubuntu just stick with
the default X session. I don't believe that the new policies have
anything to say about X vs Wayland, although I'll probably be forced
into X for GUI remote access going forward when working from home or in
a conference room.

[Bug 1867090] [NEW] IBus 1.5.21 Chinese input in Ubuntu 19.10 not working with Atom 1.45.0

2020-03-11 Thread ytxmobile
Public bug reported:

When I switch to Chinese input mode (Intelligent Pinyin) and try to type
Chinese into Atom 1.45.0, it simply doesn't work.
When I type the letters into the window, it shall bring up the candidate list
for me to pick words. But instead, the letters are directly typed into the
window, but not Chinese characters.

Note that GDM is not graphical and has no theme. More likely you're
thinking of gnome-shell which also draws the lock screen. The theme for

Re: [Bug 1854120] Re: Screen contents visible briefly on lock screen on resolution change

2020-03-11 Thread Dushyant
Hi,

This was very hard to replicate multiple times on my setup later. I also
have a nagging feeling, It could be possibly be an issue with AnyDesk
actually showing my host screen IDE for a fraction of a second which
matched my Ubuntu screen which brought up the confusion.

I myself can't accurately replicate this again, please feel free to close
the issue.

Thanks & Regards,

-Dushyant Min

[Bug 1867060] Re: brightness

2020-03-11 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Please check if you have this folder:
/sys/bus/acpi/devices/LNXVIDEO:00/physical_node/backlight. You specified
acpi_backlight=video, but maybe it's not available from ACPI Video
device. Please try removing acpi_backlight=video from boot parameters.

[Bug 1866551] Re: software-properties package crashed with desktop on totem launch on ubuntu-mate-1804

[Bug 1867080] [NEW] No mouse cursor drawn in Wayland session

2020-03-11 Thread James Henstridge
Public bug reported:

When I upgraded my desktop yesterday, I could no longer see the mouse
cursor on the screen. It still responded to mouse clicks (e.g. context
menu on right click, pushing the mouse to the top left and left clicking
went to spread mode, etc).

This only seems to affect the Wayland session: when I switched back to
X11 the mouse cursor was visible again. I also noticed that the mouse
cursor is absent on the GDM login screen, which I understand is also a
Wayland based gnome-shell session.

I tried reproducing the bug on my laptop, but the mouse cursor shows
just fine there. The main differences between the systems are the GPU
(radeon vs. intel) and number of monitors (dual screen vs. single).

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04

[Bug 1857122] Re: New Windows are opened below other windows and require extra clicks to acees

2020-03-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This sounds like a feature usually called "focus-stealing prevention". I
don't know how it's exactly implemented in Gnome Shell but you should
report it to the Gnome developers to get their opinion first:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues

and then tell us the new issue ID.

[Bug 1867079] [NEW] Typo in data/zh_CN/LC_MESSAGES/shadow.po

2020-03-11 Thread Qijia Liu
Public bug reported:

Correct me if it's not the proper place to point out typos. I can't find a
Translatable template for this.
In the file data/zh_CN/LC_MESSAGES/shadow.po, every "登陆" should be “登录” in
Chinese for "login".
I use 19.10, and the package version is 1:19.10+20191010. But this seems to be
in every release.

2020-03-11 Thread Bulk Adhesive
Thanks for the suggestions. I agree that that this patch would benefit
the wider community, but I was hoping this particular fix would make it
into 20.04.

Is there a pathway for getting this patch into the kernel that
ultimately ships with 20.04? If so, what does that path look like?

[Bug 1867071] [NEW] Raspberry Pi uses old, non-upstream DTB naming (bcm2710 instead of bcm283*)

2020-03-11 Thread Qwerty Chouskie
Public bug reported:

The upstream Debian package is correct, but the Ubuntu version of the
package, even in Focal, uses the old bcm2710-* naming, which is a
holdover from the days before upstream RPi support was put merged into
mainline Linux. This causes errors when using U-Boot as a uEFI
implementation and the stock arm64 Ubuntu image with the stock arm64
Ubuntu kernel, as every kernel upgrade, flash-kernel is looking for the
wrong file name. (Side note, the RPi 4 does use bcm2711-rpi-4-b.dtb in
the upstream kernel, but every other Pi is using bcm2835 - bcm2837).

[Bug 1864571] Re: SRU ubuntu-dev-tools

2020-03-11 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
I'm uploading another version to UNAPPROVED, this time restoring python-
ubuntutools. I had to patch it a bit to get the tests to pass under
Python 2, nothing deep though. It does make it all a bit harder to be
confident in though (the binaries use Python 3 in my upload, at least).

** Changed in: ubuntu-dev-tools (Ubuntu Bionic)

[Bug 1861101] Re: [MIR]: dependency of bind9

2020-03-11 Thread Andreas Hasenack
== MIR for python-geoip2 bug task ==

Availability:
The package must already be in the Ubuntu universe, and must build for the
architectures it is designed to work on.
- the package is in universe and is an arch all package.

Rationale:
There are two main reasons for this MIR:
- python-geoip for the geoip1 format/code is deprecated upstream and considered
legacy
- python3-geoip is in the development seed, and we should replace it with the
non-legacy python3-geoip2 package
- "we have historically tended to seed python bindings for libraries we support
as "development", on the grounds that python was a preferred language for
developing on Ubuntu."

Security
The security history and the current state of security issues in the package
must allow us to support the package for at least 9 months (60 for LTS support)
without exposing its users to an inappropriate level of security risks. This
requires checking of several things that are explained in detail in the
subsection Security checks.

Check how many vulnerabilities the package had in the past and how they
were handled by upstream and the Debian/Ubuntu package:

https://cve.mitre.org/cve/search_cve_list.html: Search in the National
Vulnerability Database using the package as a keyword
- no hits for "maxmind", "maxminddb", "libmaxminddb" other than a javascript
implementation of this api
- no hits for "geoip2"
- "geoip" (https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=geoip) has several
hits on other implementations or just users of the generic "geoip" feature, not
tied to this library or python module, with one exception for the legacy
version of the geoip library, not subject to this MIR, but from the same
upstream publisher: https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2007-0159

check OSS security mailing list (feed 'site:www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security
' into search engine)
- a search for "maxmind" returned
https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2011/05/20/4 which is a CVE on the
legacy version of the library, not on the python module. Other searches
returned empty results.
- a search for "geoip2" returns no results
- a search for "geoip" returns 3 results
(site:www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security geoip) all pointing to the same issue
below:
  - https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2011/05/20/4 for CVE-2007-0159
and a follow-up CVE because of an incomplete fix in the legacy geoip library,
not subject to this MIR, but from the same upstream source

- python-geoip2, geoip2, geoip, python3-geoip, python3-geoip2: no results

Check for security relevant binaries. If any are present, this requires a more
in-depth security review.

Executables which have the suid or sgid bit set.
- there are no binaries at all, just python module code

Executables in /sbin, /usr/sbin.
- none

Packages which install services / daemons (/etc/init.d/*, /etc/init/*,
/lib/systemd/system/*)
- none

Packages which open privileged ports (ports < 1024).
- none

Add-ons and plugins to security-sensitive software (filters, scanners, UI
skins, etc)
- The only reverse-dependency of python3-geoip2 is an irc bot called "sopel"
which is in universe

Quality assurance:
After installing the package it must be possible to make it working with a
reasonable effort of configuration and documentation reading.
- it's a python module and it can be importer straight away

The package must not ask debconf questions higher than medium if it is going to
be installed by default. The debconf questions must have reasonable defaults.
- no debconf questions

There are no long-term outstanding bugs which affect the usability of the
program to a major degree. To support a package, we must be reasonably
convinced that upstream supports and cares for the package.
The status of important bugs in Debian's, Ubuntu's, and upstream's bug tracking
systems must be evaluated. Important bugs must be pointed out and discussed in
the MIR report.
- no bugs in ubuntu other than this MIR
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-geoip2)
- no bugs in debian
(https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?dist=unstable;package=python-geoip2)

The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu (check out the Debian PTS)
https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/python-geoip2
- new upstream version available (3.0.0). Release notes:
https://github.com/maxmind/GeoIP2-python/releases/tag/v3.0.0), Dec 2019 (not

[Bug 1867068] [NEW] update to 19.03.8 to get improved mitigation for CVE-2019-14271

2020-03-11 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Public bug reported:

[impact]
Docker 19.03.0 (which was never in the archive) had a CVE, CVE-2019-14271 which
was mostly fixed in 19.03.1. 19.03.8 improves the fix.

[test case]
autopkgtests per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DockerUpdates

[regression potential]
as usual, we believe delivering an upstream experience is worth the risk of
regression

( Oddly, "ubuntu-bug zsys" didn't work, I clicked send and nothing
happened )

When I install new packages, or do significant updates on my laptop, I
often see the following error.

ERROR context deadline exceeded

This usually happens after "Saving system state" then a pause of some
seconds.

This feels like a bad thing?
