[Bug 1847570] Re: PulseAudio automatically switches to HDMI sound output on login

2020-03-16 Thread Matthew M. Dean
I still get this issue even on focal, or atleast the fix is the same. I
have a USB headset and upon reboot it always switches to the USB headset
regardless if HDMI was selected last. It's a desktop so things don't get
unplugged.

[Bug 1867133] Re: Ubuntu logo vanishes and fades back in on gdm start

2020-03-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Here's an alternate fix for comment #3. Just removing whitespace from
the logo (limit it to 48px high) is enough to stop it from getting
shrunken by the login screen.

Sorry I can't tell how to make a debdiff of this binary change, or find
an SCM to propose it to.

Help?

2020-03-16 Thread Ronin Dusette

I know it doesn't seem that long ago, and kudos to keeping your system
running that long, but it's really near the end of life, and there is no
telling what has been done since. Maybe if you have a spare drive you
can install a new version of Linux Mint (I find their distro to be far
superior nowadays) or whichever modern distro you choose on a spare
drive, update it and see if it makes a difference. At least then you
don't have to reformat your whole system and can test. I would just say
boot from a flash drive, but I am sure you will have more issues trying
it like that.

[Bug 1867655] Re: cannot run windows programs on playonlinux program especially empire earth 2 which it opens the program but the mouse cursor hangs

2020-03-16 Thread Ronin Dusette
So, your system is very, very old. I know because I have the same laptop
(or at least same generation). On top of that, you are running a very
old, outdated version of Ubuntu. Granted, I know it's LTS End-of-Life
date is not until 2021 (if I am not mistaken), it's very old. You should
really update your system. Intel support is generally very good, and as
Wine gets update, so does the Linux graphics stack. In the interim, you
can attempt to use a PPA to upgrade your graphics stack or perhaps
configure your wineprefix to use a virtual desktop.I am putting my money
on your system just being really old, and your configuration (kernel,
graphics stack, etc) being old as well as the trouble. Please attempt to
upgrade your system and see if that helps,

[Bug 1621156] Re: terminator not working with python3

2020-03-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
It looks like debian's 1.91-2 release includes porting to python3:

terminator (1.91-2) experimental; urgency=medium

  [ Ondřej Nový ]
  * d/changelog: Remove trailing whitespaces

  [ Emilio Pozuelo Monfort ]
  * debian/patches/python3.diff: port to Python 3.
  * debian/control, debian/rules: update for Python 3.

 -- Emilio Pozuelo Monfort Tue, 24 Apr 2018 20:24:15
+0200

Subsequent releases refined this support. It looks like this work was
undertaken as part of lp #1662544. Casually poking around just a bit, it seems
there have been other independent python3 conversions.

I'm thinking maybe we ought to land one of these efforts. I have been
using the Debian python3 work, and would be comfortable landing that to
trunk if no one has an objection.

will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1867668

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-

[Bug 1867704] Re: alsa/hdmi: support nvidia mst hdmi/dp audio

2020-03-16 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:

- this is for tracking purpose
+ This patchset will add support of mst audio for nvidia hdmi/dp, this
+ patchset changes lots of common code on hda_jack and hdmi codec, so it
+ is not easy to say it is 100% safe for other machines, but our oem
+ project needs this patchset to be backported to ubuntu kernel, because
+ the tight sechdule of oem project, we backport this patchset to B and
+ OEM-B first, if the hdmi audio works well for a period of time after
+ this patchset is merged, I will backport this patchset to focal, maybe
+ eoan as well.
+
+ [Impact]
+ On some LENOVO I+N machines, when setting the graphic mode to discrete,
+ The dp/hdmi audio on the Docking Gen2 can't work with this machine +
+ LENOVO Docking Gen2
+
+ [Fix]
+ Nvidia developer submit the mst audio support to 5.5-rcN and 5.6-RC1,
+ those patches could fix this issue.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ set the machien to discrete, plug the dock gen2 to it, then boot, after
+ booting, plug hdmi or dp to dock gen2, the hdmi or dp audio works.
+
+ test other machines without Nvidia graphic or without gen2, their hdmi/dp
+ audio still work.
+
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ Low, those patches come from mainline kernel, I have tested those patches
+ on the machiens with or without nvidia hdmi, and on the machines with or
without
+ docks, all worked well as before.
