[Bug 1869835] [NEW] Login screen randomly reverts my default keyboard layout to en-US
Public bug reported: I have seen that happening randomly during the 20.04 development cycle, and I think more often in the last week or so, but never consistently: when I turn on my laptop, on the GDM greeter screen the keyboard layout that's selected is en-US, instead of my default preference (fr-bépo). To give an example of the randomness, this is what I did this morning: 1) Cold booted my laptop, selected my user, typed my password, login got denied, looked at the keyboard layout indicator and realized it was en-US instead of fr-bépo 2) Selected fr-bépo in the indicator, typed my password again and successfully logged in (and indicator in the session remained fr-bépo as expected) 3) From the menu, rebooted laptop 4) On the GDM login screen, keyboard layout indicator was reverted to en-US, again 5) Changed indicator to fr-bépo, logged in, used gnome-terminal and apt to dist-upgrade, then rebooted laptop from menu 6) This time on the GDM login screen, my default preference (fr-bépo) was selected ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: gdm3 3.34.1-1ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-18.22-generic 5.4.24 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-18-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl icp zcommon znvpair ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu21 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Tue Mar 31 07:16:14 2020 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-07-02 (1367 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20160420.1) SourcePackage: gdm3 UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to focal on 2020-01-12 (78 days ago) ** Affects: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug focal rls-ff-incoming -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1869835 Title: Login screen randomly reverts my default keyboard layout to en-US To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1869835/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1869831] [NEW] lvm2: VG swaps to most recent disk if underlying PV has duplicate UUID and VG name
Public bug reported: [Impact] On xenial with lvm2 2.02.133-1ubuntu10, if you say take a snapshot of a disk with an active VG, and attach that disk to the host, the VG will swap from the existing disk to the newly attached disk. This breaks mountpoints and directs writes to the wrong storage device. Note this only happens in the edge case where the PV and VGs are absolute duplicates. [Test] Steps to reproduce: 1) Create a xenial instance. 2) Create a secondary disk and attach it. 3) Create a PV, VG and LV on the disk. 4) Run lsblk: ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ lsblk NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT vdb 253:16 02G 0 disk └─test1-database 252:00 1.6G 0 lvm /mnt/database 5) Create a "snapshot" of this disk (cp -rp disk.qcow2 disk2.qcow2) 6) Attach disk2.qcow2. Check lsblk ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ lsblk NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT vdb 253:16 02G 0 disk vdc 253:32 02G 0 disk └─test1-database 252:00 1.6G 0 lvm We can see the VG jumps from /dev/vdb to /dev/vdc, even though the system was running at the time, and the VG was mounted. [Regression Potential] The risk of regression if we fix this issue is extreme. The commits themselves are large and modify core LVM code, and change the behaviour of how disks are scanned and processed. The commits introduce new configuration options. The commits do not apply cleanly, and all of them require significant backporting, and quite a few dependencies. Because of this, it would be far too risky to fix this for xenial, so I will mark this as wontfix. [Other Info] This was fixed in 2.02.153 by the following commits: commit 49d9582bed338dc555b616bcc9de20fafd00ce2d Author: David Teigland Date: Tue Mar 29 13:29:39 2016 -0500 Subject: lvmcache: use active LVs and device sizes to choose between duplicates Link: https://github.com/lvmteam/lvm2/commit/49d9582bed338dc555b616bcc9de20fafd00ce2d commit d4e434d1e6082ff4d448f4fbc03962c6f0926da4 Author: David Teigland Date: Fri Apr 29 14:42:14 2016 -0500 Subject: pvs: new attr and field for unchosen duplicate device Link: https://github.com/lvmteam/lvm2/commit/d4e434d1e6082ff4d448f4fbc03962c6f0926da4 commit d3d13e134af15611c3f12107aa1627b12110a974 Author: David Teigland Date: Thu Feb 11 12:37:36 2016 -0600 Subject: lvmcache: process duplicate PVs directly Link: https://github.com/lvmteam/lvm2/commit/d3d13e134af15611c3f12107aa1627b12110a974 commit 8b7a78c728be3b9af698dae9344d01752c4cf615 Author: David Teigland Date: Tue Feb 9 13:06:27 2016 -0600 Subject: lvmcache: improve duplicate PV handling Link: https://github.com/lvmteam/lvm2/commit/8b7a78c728be3b9af698dae9344d01752c4cf615 commit 3d2fbfe243550b7801165f393d27e35044c1a56d Author: David Teigland Date: Fri Jan 29 13:31:54 2016 -0600 Subject: lvmetad: set disabled flag when duplicate PVs are seen Link: https://github.com/lvmteam/lvm2/commit/3d2fbfe243550b7801165f393d27e35044c1a56d commit 9539ee809827a870c88d02cfb2d0dc1e3eaac0d0 Author: David Teigland Date: Fri Jan 29 12:25:20 2016 -0600 Subject: lvmetad: set disabled flag in lvmetad if duplicate PVs are found Link: https://github.com/lvmteam/lvm2/commit/9539ee809827a870c88d02cfb2d0dc1e3eaac0d0 The fixes are present in Ubuntu 16.10 and later, meaning xenial is the only impacted supported release. ** Affects: lvm2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Affects: lvm2 (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Medium Assignee: Matthew Ruffell (mruffell) Status: Won't Fix ** Affects: lvm2 (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Affects: lvm2 (Ubuntu Disco) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Affects: lvm2 (Ubuntu Eoan) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Affects: lvm2 (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Tags: sts ** Also affects: lvm2 (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: lvm2 (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: lvm2 (Ubuntu Disco) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: lvm2 (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: lvm2 (Ubuntu Eoan) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: lvm2 (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => Fix Released ** Changed in: lvm2 (Ubuntu Disco) Status: New => Fix Released ** Changed in: lvm2 (Ubuntu Eoan) Status: New => Fix Released ** Changed in: lvm2 (Ubuntu Focal) Status: New => Fix Released ** Changed in: lvm2 (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: New => Won't Fix ** Changed in: lvm2 (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: lvm2 (Ubuntu Xenial) Assignee: (unassigned) => Matthew Ruffell (mruffell) ** Tags added: sts -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed

[Bug 1869827] [NEW] Gnome Settings not able to change sound device
Public bug reported: This is a recent bug (last week or so). Fortunately a work around is to use https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/906/sound-output-device-chooser/ which works. I'm not sure this is the right package to put this bug report in. I mean the settings with the gear icon in Ubuntu 20.04. See the photo attached. [Bug 1869825] [NEW] ubuntu 20.10 should include dm-vdo support
Public bug reported: Ubuntu should also include support for dm-vdo technology: " VDO (which includes kvdo and vdo) is software that provides inline block-level deduplication, compression, and thin provisioning capabilities for primary storage. VDO installs within the Linux device mapper framework, where it takes ownership of existing physical block devices and remaps these to new, higher-level block devices with data-efficiency capabilities. Deduplication is a technique for reducing the consumption of storage resources by eliminating multiple copies of duplicate blocks. Compression takes the individual unique blocks and shrinks them with coding algorithms; these reduced blocks are then efficiently packed together into physical blocks. Thin provisioning manages the mapping from LBAs presented by VDO to where the data has actually been stored, and also eliminates any blocks of all zeroes. With deduplication, instead of writing the same data more than once each duplicate block is detected and recorded as a reference to the original block. VDO maintains a mapping from logical block addresses (used by the storage layer above VDO) to physical block addresses (used by the storage layer under VDO). After deduplication, multiple logical block addresses may be mapped to the same physical block address; these are called shared blocks and are reference-counted by the software. With VDO's compression, multiple blocks (or shared blocks) are compressed with the fast LZ4 algorithm, and binned together where possible so that multiple compressed blocks fit within a 4 KB block on the underlying storage. Mapping from LBA is to a physical block address and index within it for the desired compressed data. All compressed blocks are individually reference counted for correctness. Block sharing and block compression are invisible to applications using the storage, which read and write blocks as they would if VDO were not present. When a shared block is overwritten, a new physical block is allocated for storing the new block data to ensure that other logical block addresses that are mapped to the shared physical block are not modified. This public source release of VDO includes two kernel modules, and a set of userspace tools for managing them. The "kvdo" module implements fine-grained storage virtualization, thin provisioning, block sharing, and compression; the "uds" module provides memory-efficient duplicate identification. The userspace tools include a pair of python scripts, "vdo" for creating and managing VDO volumes, and "vdostats" for extracting statistics from those volumes. This is a regression from the -40 kernel where the Output was working (no Input though). Attempted to use SOF, i.e. the fix mentioned in https://github.com/thesofproject/linux/issues/1877 This results in system freezes, failed boots, and failure to wake from sleep. [Bug 1869007] Re: [needs-packaging] [FFe] qt5-ukui-platformtheme
Dear Ubuntu Teams, I am both the member of UbuntuKylin and the author of qt5-ukui- platformtheme. I have a plea that please let the qt5-ukui-paltformtheme packaged into focal. Even if I know for sure that this might cause a lot of troubles for packing a newly package after Featrue Freeze, there are more sufficient and urgent reasons that prompted me to initiate this request again. Firstly, qt5-ukui-paltformtheme is not a single application but a basic environment of UKUI. It almost effects all qt's applications in UKUI Desktop Environment. Insteadly if there is no a platformtheme, some qt's application such as Peony (UKUI's File Manager) will not work in correct because there is not a "driver" of theme to indicate them how to display themselves. Secondly, as a lts release of UbuntuKylin, I do not hope that users getting an iso and start an experience many with obvious bugs. In fact the most of them is leaded by lacking of this package. I have try my best to consider how to fix these bugs in UKUI Desktop Environment but I still not find a way to resolve them, except letting qt5-ukui- platformtheme intergated into UKUI. If someone try a daily build iso of UbuntuKylin, he or she will find that how serious the problem it is. For now we have provided a ppa[0] for resolving those bugs. qt5-ukui-platformtheme is also can be installed with the ppa. If we do nothing now, these bugs might still exist and difficult to maintian because of the lack of basic environment. I must appreciate everyone here for the greate contributions. As an author of open source projects, I can only do very limited things for this case. So I hope that you consider my request again, and I will do my best to provide some strength. [Bug 1869116] Re: smartctl-validate is borked in a recent release
That makes sense based on the other information in this bug. MAAS sends the test runner a list of storage devices to run hardware tests on. The test runner uses the model and serial to map to a block device name. This block device name is passed to the smartctl-validate script. smartctl-validate uses smartctl to determine if SMART data is available for the device. Because the model name differs between lsblk and lxc it can't be looked up and the test is marked as a failure. The mapping needs to work so MAAS can pass the block device to to smartctl-validate which knows the test can be skipped. ** Tags added: champagne -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1869116 Title: smartctl-validate is borked in a recent release To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lxd/+bug/1869116/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1869758 Title: Repetative problem, Random connectivity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1869758/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1869814] Re: ubuntu-docs build failure - possible solution
Hmm.. I saw in the buildlog from the successful build that it skipped the Chinese translation of a particular string. The reason proved to be a missing '<' character, i.e. the translated string contains an instance of '/em>' instead of ''. And that's the correct behavior; it should check the Mallard syntax and skip translations with invalid syntax. Anyway, I added the missing '<', and then ubuntu-docs built with the itstool version in focal. So the direct reason for the build failure is a syntactically incorrect translation. OTOH, translators make mistakes, and a bad translation *should not* make the whole package build to fail. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1869814 Title: ubuntu-docs build failure - possible solution To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/itstool/+bug/1869814/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
