[Bug 1863255] Re: Programs installed in Snap format do not detect the keyboard

The last ibus update is 4 days old, and it should be unrelated, so this is
probably a different issue.
Can you check the output of "journalctl -f | grep DEN" while running those
snaps, and attach it here?

We did check the modules - at least the package
5.4.0-21.25+lp1866909v202004020814 and from modinfo:

signer: Build time autogenerated kernel key
sig_key:3B:AB:B6:13:BE:1C:39:7C:C5:17:8E:6F:B4:C9:A1:7F:52:30:9B:8F

MODULE_SIG_FORCE looks like it's off for all archs, too.

With Michael's help, I could get the right key for the kernel.
I updated the new key and then tried booting to signed kernel in secure boot
enabled state.

It seems kernel is being verified.
# kexec -l /var/petitboot/mnt/dev/sdb6/boot/vmlinux-5.4.0-21-generic
kexec syscall failed: Permission denied > Expected to fail as insecure
load is disabled during secure boot

However, it failed on doing kexec -e.
It failed at:

[ 42.315484] kexec_core: Starting new kernel
Gave up waiting for root file system device. Common problems:
- Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
- Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
- Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)

(initramfs)

Michael investigated that it seems modules are not getting loaded. He
looked for the modules and they seemed to be signed.

Next we checked the CONFIG. And it seems MODULE_SIG_FORCE is not enabled
though MODULE_SIG and MODULE_SIG_ALL are enabled.

As per powerpc arch specific policies for secure boot which are:
static const char *const secure_and_trusted_rules[] = {
"measure func=KEXEC_KERNEL_CHECK template=ima-modsig",
"measure func=MODULE_CHECK template=ima-modsig",
"appraise func=KEXEC_KERNEL_CHECK appraise_flag=check_blacklist
appraise_type=imasig|modsig",
#ifndef CONFIG_MODULE_SIG_FORCE
"appraise func=MODULE_CHECK appraise_flag=check_blacklist
appraise_type=imasig|modsig",
#endif
NULL

As per these policies, if MODULE_SIG_FORCE is not enabled, IMA policy
for MODULE_CHECK gets added. However, IMA looks for keys only in .ima
keyring for module verification and therefore does not find Buildtime
generated key and fails to verify.

I think that explains why booting failed.

We wanted to understand if there is a reason for not enabling
MODULE_SIG_FORCE even though modules are signed at build time.

Michael please add any other info if I missed..

Thanks & Regards,
- Nayna

Sorry, that wasn't a better description. When i rightclick on the Bose
SLIII and click pair, the 3 bar graphs appear momentarily, then
disappear again, and thereafter "pair" is greyed out on the rightclick
menu. i guess that means it did pair properly. But doesn't appear in

[Bug 1855594] Re: Sync chromium 78.0.3904.108-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2020-04-02 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Thank you for resolving this.
I would like to mention that there are other browsers/snaps in Universe that
are just synced from Debian, without any policy about preventing them from
reaching Ubuntu, and that this decision will probably move users to Google
Chrome rather than snaps, but ...alea iacta est. :)

better description of failure: Bose SLIII appears in blueman-manager in
response to adapter search, but pair fails.

as noted above, this works properly in focal ubuntu, and fails in focal
lubuntu. this can be reproduced by merely booting the focal ubuntu and
lubuntu live ISOs and installing blueman-manager into the live systems.

[Bug 947664] Re: Unpacking linux-headers unbelievably slow in Lubuntu Precise (Beta 1)

2020-04-02 Thread Blake McBride
I tried it by comparing the same VM with and without that setting. Here
is what I found:

With "Use Host I/O Cache" disabled, booting took 40 seconds.

With "Use Host I/O Cache" enabled, booting took 12 seconds.

With "Use Host I/O Cache" disabled, doing a mini update took a few minutes.

With "Use Host I/O Cache" enabled, doing a mini update occurred nearly
instantaneously.

I'm convinced.

[Bug 1870338] Re: freezes on boot

2020-04-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1870338] Re: freezes on boot

2020-04-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report.

The only thing I can see wrong in the above attachments right now is
some kind of hardware fault on the motherboard:

That might just be a poorly seated PCIe card. And it might not even be
related to the main issue you experience, so...

[Bug 1866909] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2020-04-02 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From naynj...@ibm.com 2020-04-02 21:53 EDT---
The kernel seems to be having the secure boot functions after enabling those
CONFIGs. Now, I was trying to boot to this kernel when secure boot is enabled.

I have taken the key from here -
ppa.launchpad.net/sforshee/lp1866909/ubuntu/dists/focal/main/signed/linux-ppc64el/current/signed.tar.gz

I have taken opal.x509 in the control directory as the key.

The secure boot is enabled "os-secure-enforcing" and .platform has
loaded the key.

# cd /proc/device-tree/ibm,secureboot/
# ls
compatible ibm,cvc phandle
hw-key-hash name secure-enabled
hw-key-hash-size os-secureboot-enforcing trusted-enabled
# keyctl show %keyring:.platform
Keyring
337432176 ---lswrv 0 0 keyring: .platform
471022331 ---lswrv 0 0 \_ asymmetric: DB:
e6b84e62dbbd988abbfda008355aa6a08001c58c

However, it seems the verification is failing as shown below:
# kexec -s /var/petitboot/mnt/dev/sdb6/boot/vmlinux-5.4.0-21-generic
file_load failed: Permission denied

I have two questions:
* I hope the key is right.
* I hope the signature is not stored as detached file because that is how I saw
it in -
ppa.launchpad.net/sforshee/lp1866909/ubuntu/dists/focal/main/signed/linux-ppc64el/current/signed.tar.gz.

Please confirm. I will continue to look at it more.

[Bug 1868353] Re: regression: Bose SL III works in bionic but not in focal

2020-04-02 Thread gregrwm
i installed from this lubuntu iso:

1779384320 2020-03-14 Sat 11:49:43 lubuntu/focal-desktop-amd64.iso

i just booted up that iso again, installed blueman and pavucontrol-qt
into the live system, and it fails as above. my installed system is
fully updated and also still fails as above.

so then i downloaded the ubuntu iso:

2810314752 2020-04-01 Wed 11:10:05 ubuntu/focal-desktop-amd64.iso

it's a little more recent, which could be the difference, but my bet is
the difference is it has more/different packages. it works.

so this issue should be re-titled 'regression: bose sl iii works in
bionic lubuntu, and in focal ubuntu, but fails in focal lubuntu'

and i'm guessing it's a dependency issue.

updates, after that the zsysd was started draining CPU and IO. How can I
fix it to back to normal? Is it possible to rollback recent system
state? If Yes, just how?

NOTE: I was stopped and disabled zsysd service and removed zsysd.socket
file, after that it worked normally for now. I just don't know is this
good approach? or not.

Sorry for the confusion, I was travelling at the time of comment #20.
Mention of "wl_drm_interface" in bug 1866356 convinces me that it's just
a duplicate of this one. And this one is still open for bionic.

And apparently I solved the mystery. As a desperate attempt I changed
the refresh rate of the from 59.xx Hz to 60 Hz, and Xorg stopped
crashing coming out of suspend. I suggest giving it a try. Note: I do
not know why the screen was initially set to 59.xx Hz.

[Bug 1869799] Re: no sound driver since 5.3.0.42 kernel

2020-04-02 Thread Hui Wang
@schmidt,

Got it, the legacy hda driver found the dmics on your machine,it aborts
the probe, but the pciid is not in the sof driver, the sof driver is not
loaded.

You could workaround it by adding "options snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0"
in the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf temporarily. I will submit the
patch to fix it.
