[Bug 1872796] Re: gnome-shell animations are noticeably stuttery when the Ubuntu extensions are enabled

2020-05-09 Thread Manuj Chandra Sharma
Hi,

I don't know if this is going to help, but I was experience a similar
problem in Popos 20.04. In my case, the misbehaving app turned out to be
Mega from mega.nz which I use for cloud sync.

Their ubuntu 20.04 deb package causes noticeable stuttering. After
disabling the app the desktop becomes smooth again. After enabling it
again the computer becomes fast and smooth.

This problem did not exist in 19.10 using mega's deb for 19.10.

The stuttering happens across the board, in every activity randomly.

Thanks.

[Bug 1877824] [NEW] Trying to upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04

2020-05-09 Thread Bryan L
Public bug reported:

Trying to upgrade to 20.04 and it's failing during the "setting new
software channels" then shows me this:

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

 This was likely caused by:
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge
package to remove software from a Launchpad PPA and
try the upgrade again.

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command
'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If you want to
investigate this yourself the log files in '/var/log/dist-upgrade' will
contain details about the upgrade. Specifically, look at 'main.log' and
'apt.log'.

I'm not sure what I'm looking for in the logs it suggests or what ppa-
purge is.

I've tried on 2 separate laptops now and I have the same issue. Tried
installing Fedora 32 and Solus with no issue on them. Seems to be an
issue with the Ubuntu installer.

Google email addresses worked fine for me, but not AT addresses from
May 7th on with Evolution. Thanks for the recommendation to install a
newer version from Flathub.org. Backed up Evolution, removed version
3.28.5, installed version 3.36.2, restored data from backup, and all is
now good and right in the world --- or at least on my laptop for now.

[Bug 1866194] Re: External audio device shows up in the sound output options but the sound keeps being emitted from the internal laptop speaker, or none at all.

2020-05-09 Thread Fábio Lima
This also affects me!

Ubuntu Focal Fossa updated until right now;
Dell Inspiron 15 5590 Laptop;
Intel® Core™ i7-10510U CPU.

I just use a simple P2 headphone.
When plugged, audio doesn't sound out and mic doesn't capture in until I go to
Gnome Control Center > Sound and change to the other input device created
besides the default one.

Look this out happening at https://youtu.be/uLwrqPwByNk

[Bug 1877806] [NEW] ardour crashes when saving lv2 plugin preset

2020-05-09 Thread Don Himelrick
Public bug reported:

The few lv2 plugins I have tried all crash ardour when I click on "save"
to save the preset. Clicking Add to create a new plugin doesn't crash,
but it also does not save the preset. If you load a plugin preset
already created and then click save, you end up wiping out the contents
of the preset direcoty in ~/.lv2. The .ttl files are deleted and you
end up with an empty directoy. The only thing printed on the console
when this happens is this:

CALF DEBUG: instance 0x55c00d102860 data 0x55c01ca1cf10
CALF DEBUG: calf 0x7f8d31f7b0f0 cpi 0x7f8d31783ca0
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

AFAIK, teh preset add and save functions work for ladspa plugins.

[Bug 1847829] Re: Three finger tap to middle click stopped working

If your three-finger taps are inconsistent (sometimes registered as left
clicks, sometimes as right clicks, sometimes as middle clicks), it could
be related to the following upstream issues:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libinput/libinput/-/issues/361
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libinput/libinput/-/issues/473

I am also affected by inconsistent three-finger taps (most often

** Description changed:

I'm trying to switch from the "fingers" click-method to the "areas"
click-method, because tapping with three fingers is awkward and I find
that my three-fingers taps are rarely registered as such.

- * "fingers": single-finger tap for a click, two-finger tap for a right click,
- three-finger tap for a middle click
- * "areas": tap in the lower right corner for a right click, tap in the upper
- right corner for a middle click
+ * "fingers": single-finger tap for a click, two-finger tap for a right
+ click, three-finger tap for a middle click
+ * "areas": tap in the lower right corner for a right click, tap in the
+ upper right corner for a middle click

  After running the following command:

- gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad click-method
- "'areas'"
+   gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad click-method \
+ "'areas'"

I can verify with gsettings get... that the click-method is now "areas",
however tapping in the lower/upper right corners of the touchpad does
not elicit the expected right/middle clicks, whereas tapping with two
fingers elicits a right click. This remains the case even after
rebooting the computer. It's as if the click-method was ignored and
  defaulted to "fingers".

I couldn't find any similar bug reports and don't know how to
investigate this problem further. I assume this problem is specific to
my hardware, otherwise it would have been noticed already. I attach the
  output of the following commands:

- cat /proc/bus/input/devices
- xinput --list
- xinput --list-props 13 # where 13 is the touchpad's ID
+   cat /proc/bus/input/devices
+   xinput --list
+   xinput --list-props 13 # where 13 is the touchpad's ID

Should I report this issue to upstream libinput

  to do with GNOME instead?

Using Ubuntu 20.04 with libinput 1.15.5-1 and xserver-xorg-input-

[Bug 1876286] Re: Evolution reports "Error performing TLS handshake: Internal error in memory allocation."

2020-05-09 Thread Nicos Angelopoulos
Dear all,

I have had the same "...TLS handshake: Internal error in memory allocation"
with yahoo IMAP (and POP) on claws 3.17.5 (and some older version)
for the last 1-2 days, on 18.1 Mint and 19.3 Mint.

Many thanks to Vincent Vermeulen for narrowing down the libs.

I don't think this is due to some new additions
to Ubuntu libraries as I tried on 18.1, 18.3, 19 & 19.3 Mint
(as i was updating the system remotely).

I managed to resolve this by installing from sources
gnutls-3.6.13 and its dependencies nettle-3.6 and libunistring
9.9 (via apt get this one).

The issue seems to be either with nettle or gnutls.

I then set $PGK_CONFIG_PATH and $LD_LIBRARY_PATH and then re-compiled
claws-mail-3.17.5

Solved the imap problem for sure, haven't tested the POP protocol.

Regards,

NA

[Bug 1877797] [NEW] UCA rocky neutron-openvswitch-agent has a bug which causes VM connectivity problems during Rocky upgrade (to get to Stein)

2020-05-09 Thread James Troup
Public bug reported:

The Rocky release notes
(https://docs.openstack.org/releasenotes/neutron/rocky.html) contain
this entry for 13.0.7:

Fixes an issue that the OVS firewall driver does not configure security
group rules using remote group properly when a corresponding remote
group has no port on a local hypervisor. For more information see bugs:
1862703 and 1854131.

Unfortunately Rocky in the Ubuntu Cloud Archive is only 13.06 and we hit
this problem with a customer cloud that was being upgraded to Stein and
it caused workload network outages for them.

I realize Rocky is out of support at this point, but the supported
upgrade path for Queens to Stein, includes upgrading to Rocky. Can we
please get 13.07 or later into the UCA for Rocky?

[Bug 1877795] [NEW] After failed attempt, can not type password for a few seconds

2020-05-09 Thread dano
Public bug reported:

On the login screen, after entering an incorrect password, the box
shakes and the error "Sorry, that didn't work please try again." is
displayed. In previous Ubuntu versions you could immediately begin
entering your password again. In 20.04 there is a delay of about 2-3
seconds before the password entry filled is auto selected. Eventually
the orange border appears and text input is filled. This process can be
quickened by clicking on the password field with the mouse pointer.

extension isn't activated. Not sure if this is a different bug or the
same one.

[Bug 1877792] [NEW] jmespath SyntaxWarning: "is" with a literal.

2020-05-09 Thread Edward Vielmetti
Public bug reported:

Fixed upstream in
https://github.com/jmespath/jmespath.py/commit/56263b84cdb0feb7c8d54e426ec472f4dd0de44f

Impact: this causes applications like Ansible that have dependencies on
python-jmespath to send out warnings. Caused by language changes in
Python 3.8.

System is Ubuntu 20.04 LTS on a Pi 4.

[Bug 1875099] Re: RTL8822BE Wifi [10ec:b822] subsystem [17aa:b023] crashes on 20.04 on Lenovo Legion Y530

2020-05-09 Thread campus
Ok, after a few hours the problem came back so bios upgrade is not a solution.
While searching for a possible solution I discovered that there are a number of
distributions inpacted by this bug (not all debian based) so it must be a
kernel bug.
https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=290987
https://forums.kali.org/showthread.php?45021-rtl8822be-wifi-not-working-after-updated-to-kernel-5-2-0
https://access.redhat.com/discussions/4302461
For now I'm reverting to eoan because the wifi is not usable in focal.

I'm attaching my kernel log from the last crash.

[Bug 1876522] Re: apt chooses Ubuntu repo instead of nvidia-graphics PPA

2020-05-09 Thread Sønke Lorenzen
According to the supported products at https://www.nvidia.com/en-
us/drivers/unix/ 390 is the highest driver that support your GPU.I
wonder why you did not get that installed automatically instead of the
really old 340.

You should try to install 390, and you do not need the PPA for that.

However for those that can use 440 and want the newest 440.82 apt
pinning works.

Create a file named /etc/apt/preferences.d/priority-nvidia with this :

Package: *
Pin: release o=LP-PPA-graphics-drivers
Pin-Priority: 1000

Check the policy with

apt-cache policy nvidia-driver-440

and then install the driver.

Can the version in the PPA for 440.82 in 20.04 please be bumped so its
higher than 440.82+really.440.64?

[Bug 1877766] Re: No Sound after update in 16.04 LTS

2020-05-09 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1877766/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1875020] Re: Update Ukrainian language pack to fix mate-keyboard-properties crash

2020-05-09 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I see. That means that it may be worth a new try in the end of next week
to copy the latest versions of language-pack-uk and language-pack-gnome-
uk to focal-proposed. They will be created in a PPA automatically
anyway, and I think it's easy for Łukasz to copy them to -proposed. (
Hope I'm right about that, Łukasz. :) )

[Bug 1867090] Re: IBus 1.5.21 Chinese input in Ubuntu 19.10 not working with Atom 1.45.0 as snap

2020-05-09 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Yeah, it's easier to install the deb on 20.04 now than it was when I
made the 'experiment'. The explanation is the package python-is-python2
which was added to 20.04 right before the release.

But they should still port atom to python3 - python2 is obsolete and
will soon disappear from the Ubuntu archive.

[Bug 1877785] [NEW] [bluetooth] Audio device reconnects after explicitly turning connection off

2020-05-09 Thread Brian Ealdwine
Public bug reported:

I have a Logitech BT Adapter for playing audio.

I am unable to (permanently) disconnect from the device without removing
it. This is, presumably, the opposite problem to #1331642 (which exists
for good reason). Since the device is paired, it auto-reconnects (which
is good) instead of following preferences (which is bad).

Current behavior:
 * If the device is paired, it connects.
 * Turning the connection off (without unpairing) causes the device to
disconnect, then reconnect.

Desired behavior (option 1, clean UI):
 * If I turn the connection off, it should stay off
 * If I turn it on, it should stay on
 * If (and only if) the connection has not been explicitly turned off, it
should reconnect if not connected

Desired behavior (option 2, fairly clean UI, plus configurability to avoid
annoyance situations):
 * In the individual device dialog, devices would have a 'Reconnect
Automatically' option, on by default, below the 'Connection' switch.
 * If I turn the connection off, it should stay off.
 * If I turn it on, it should attempt to connect.
 * If 'Reconnect automatically" is checked, and I have not explicitly turned
the device off, it should consistently attempt to reconnect at the appropriate
times as normal.

Unpairing, in case that is suggested, is not a reasonable solution. This is a
regularly used device (house bluetooth speakers) that takes intermittent use.
This behavior is a regression from previous versions of Ubuntu (19.10 and
earlier) which worked as described -- Switching the connection off stayed off
until explicitly reconnected.

[Bug 1875020] Re: Update Ukrainian language pack to fix mate-keyboard-properties crash

2020-05-09 Thread Maksym Bilak
In fact, this bug has been around for a long time, but I was the first to tell
MATE developers about this problem.
But at the same time, MATE is currently the most accessible desktop environment
for blind users. This bug frightened users because it prevented them from
configuring keyboard shortcuts to switch between keyboard layouts. So I asked
Yuri to intervene. I hope that MATE developers will fix this problem; But by
updating the appropriate package, we will solve this problem for some time for
users from Ukraine.
I also apologize for wasting your time.

[Bug 1877000] Re: libjfxwebkit not present in the package for Focal amd64

2020-05-09 Thread Jardi Martinez
I found my work around this issue by downloading and installing the
previous version of the libopenjfx-jni package (11.0.2+1-1). I can't
pinpoint what was done in the current version that gets rid of
jfxwebkit.

Thanks.

[Bug 1846374] Re: Having a video playing/paused when switched to another user generates gigabytes of error logs

2020-05-09 Thread Balint Pap
I also experienced the same issue using Ubuntu 18.04 and VLC 3.0.8 version.
(Nvidia-driver-435)
I was not able to reproduce the same issue with another media player.

[Bug 1877778] Re: Crashes when trying to upgrade error with package repository

2020-05-09 Thread madwaxer
Retied to get the exact error message below:

"Invalid package information

After updating your package information, the essential package 'ubuntu-minimal'
could not be located. This may be because you have no official mirrors listed
in your software sources, or because of excessive load on the mirror you are
using. See /etc/apt/sources.list for the current list of configured software
sources.
In the case of an overloaded mirror, you may want to try the upgrade again
later."

[Bug 1867090] Re: IBus 1.5.21 Chinese input in Ubuntu 19.10 not working with Atom 1.45.0 as snap

2020-05-09 Thread ytxmobile
Upgraded Ubuntu to 20.04, and Atom snap to 1.46.0.
Chinese input is attempted without success.

I followed the instructions on https://flight-manual.atom.io/getting-
started/sections/installing-atom/ and installed the deb version instead.
Chinese input can work under this version.
