[Bug 1883395] Re: Installation fails in extracting files. It shows errno 5. I tried installing ubuntu 18.04.4 and 20.04 and got the same error.

2020-06-13 Thread Chris Guiver
Bug reports are not intended for support, but I'll provide the following

Available for Ubuntu or flavors of Ubuntu (note: Pop/Linux Lite are neither)
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu
your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/
https://askubuntu.com
https://ubuntuforums.org
or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

Did you verify your ISO after download? (the check takes 1-2 secs; I already
provided a link for that in last comment)
Did you verify the write to your install media?

In my experience the second is where failures occur.. ie. bad writes.
On Ubuntu 20.04 (and flavors) this check occurs automatically; for older
releases it required the user to initiate it. Had you have done this
check, the problem would have been detected & would have highlighted a
prior step failed (ie. write to media unless you skipped the ISO
validation too).

Squashfs errors are inability to read the data on the install media,
either because of bad device (faulty/unreliable), bad data on device
(ISO wasn't checked or bad write to install media).

[Bug 1883040] Re: groovy daily won't boot anymore on some older BIOS boxes

2020-06-13 Thread Chris Guiver
I'll respond as I can do items. For now I'll provide

Lubuntu groovy daily (maybe two days old, same as my prior two comments)
https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZnGr7E4XHDhJby2r9
https://photos.app.goo.gl/1zPczBNR6BB28b5n6

photos are of same thing, first portrait (more lines vertically seen),
second landscape (you can read more of each line) booted on dell 755(-5)

FYI: I haven't found a mini.iso, only netboot iamges for releases up to
focal

2020-06-13 Thread Patrick Moreira de Souza Lima
Hi,

thanks for your response.

So... I downloaded this ISO directly from ubuntu website. I think it was
supposed to work well. Anyway, I've got problems when I try to install
Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 18.04, Pop_OS! 20.04 and Pop_OS! 19.10. Only Linux
Lite 5.0 really worked out, but it is not my preferential distro. I think
it too strange that I can install Lite and not Ubuntu. Do you think it
could be a problem in my installation media? I tried with two different
flash cards and got the same results.

I hope you could help me out. Thank you!!!

So given comment 40 indicating part of this bug has been fixed in bug

need to be subscribed to this, as it's unclear what parts, if any of the

The second IP address was caused by DHCPCD running and assigning address
via DHCP. This seems to the bug, because via netplan I have assigned
static IP

[Bug 1883390] Re: Clicking on an app icon doesn't work if it's opened in another workspace

2020-06-13 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1883390/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

This is still an issue. The notification is a nice rub of salt in the

decided to turn chromium-browser gets a kernel panic when they're
updating their system.

[Bug 1883398] [NEW] USB serial device passtrough causes qemu to segfault and kill the VM

2020-06-13 Thread Avamander
Public bug reported:

What happens:

When I pass trough my CH340G (very common USB-TTL serial module) with
high-baud data coming in to my Windows 10 VM. qemu segfaults and dirtily
shuts down my VM at some random point. The higher the baudrate, the more
likely it is to happen. 921600 means the death to my VM in somewhere
between 10 seconds and a few minutes. There's no blue screen or
anything, it's qemu dying and taking the VM with it.

So far I've also determined:
* It does not crash as often on lower baudrates.

* It does not seem to crash if there's no data coming in.

* It does not matter if something is reading the data or not.

* It does not matter what software is reading the serial device.

What should happen:

Qemu shouldn't crash on a device being passed trough.

System details:

Host - Ubuntu 20.04, qemu-system-common 4.2-3ubuntu6.1 (and everything
else as well latest from repository)

VM - Windows 10, latest updates installed

Diagnostics info:

[Bug 1248461] Re: Okular freezes when opening file

2020-06-13 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.

`ubuntu-bug` or `apport-collect was never run on this bug report, so
release was not entered, and the package version of `okular` is now no
longer supported.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

I'll mark this bug report 'incomplete', and suggest it be re-tested with
a supported release (ideally 18.04, 20.04 as Kubuntu 16.04 LTS is
already EOL being a flavor). It would also be best if `apport-collect
1248461` is run by the original reporter, or if the bug is experienced
by other users (of supported systems), they can file their own bug
report and the two linked via 'duplicate').

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested
in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the
latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still
present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling
us which new version it is in and change the bug status to Confirmed.

[Bug 1883395] Re: Installation fails in extracting files. It shows errno 5. I tried installing ubuntu 18.04.4 and 20.04 and got the same error.

2020-06-13 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This package failure looks like it was caused by bad ISO download,
corrupted install media, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and
you'll see messages like these :-

Jun 13 22:03:09 ubuntu kernel: [ 290.577075] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Jun 13 22:03:09 ubuntu kernel: [ 290.577080] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x4dc7b142

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a bad ISO or
faulty device (inc. bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error,
please leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to
'New'. I suggest you verify your ISO download, and note the validation
of your ISO before install to ensure a good download & write.

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="libata.force=noncq"
GRUB_GFXMODE="1920x1200x24

It knocks a few seconds off of boot times, and shuts them down in a
heartbeat.

Here's the 'systemd-analyze time' result on my Dell Dimension 3000 box,
circa 2004:

Startup finished in 3.650s (kernel) + 7.044s (userspace) = 10.694s

[Bug 1883393] [NEW] Calendar events from time zone different from local time displayed wrongly

2020-06-13 Thread drx
Public bug reported:

Events from time zones other than the local one are displayed wrongly:
The clock time shows the correct local time, but in week view, the event
is drawn at the time of the other time zone.

This greatly disturbs the layout and leads to events being drawn
overlapped.

Effect was showing with a Google calendar.

To reproduce:

- Subscribe to a Google calendar.
- In that Google calendar, create an event in a time zone with some hours
difference to your time zone.
- Watch the event appear in the calendar at the wrong position.

[Bug 1883390] [NEW] Clicking on an app icon doesn't work if it's opened in another workspace

2020-06-13 Thread Tiger
Public bug reported:

My Ubuntu version is a 16.04 LTS.
I make regularly updates using the console commands.
sudo apt-get update upgrade dist-upgrade autoremove

Steps to reproduce the bug

1- open an app, for example the terminal in workspace 1

2- go to workspace 2 and click in the left bar on the terminal icon

Results: the process is not switching to workspace 1 where the terminal
is already opened.

It was working perfectly before and I made no changes to my system
except the updates.

I discover this issue with another one.

Some applications, it's the case for terminal, when being opened are
placed too high and their handle title bar are behind Ubuntu top bar.

I am double-checking the regression range, and with the nightly from
5/30/19 (the first bad nightly from comment 31), audio never starts
flowing. Nightlies after that have a 10 second (or so delay).

So the regression range in comment 31 is valid on OS X Catalina. I'm
going to try to bisect further with local builds, but that's going to
take a while.

[Bug 1883177] Re: Double menu-bar in LibreOffice 6.4.3.2 only with installed addon languagetool

2020-06-13 Thread Matthias Sprau
** Description changed:

Hello, I had the problem already with 18.04. Now I have reinstalled
  Ubuntu 20.04 64bit, automatically with LibreOffice 6.4.3.2.

If I open at first within LO a saved or a recently used document, another
menu-bar appears.
(This doesn't happen if i open the document from Nautilus.)

Test: First delete the whole user profile under .config/libreoffice.

After that: If I use LO without Languagetool, the problem does not
appear. After installing languagetool 4.8 as an addon, when opening a
file for the first time, a double menu line is immediately visible.

  Further Oberservation / workaround:
If I open the 1st file from Nautilus and then open the next file either in LO
with 'ctrl+o' or with File > last used ... there are no further menu lines.
+
+ Another observation:
+ Sometimes when I opened a file with a math formula it happened also if I
double-click a formular, leave the formular editor per "esc" -> double menu-bar
ist visible
+ This failure can be reproduced by me only unreliable (-> image: menu2.png).

[Bug 1876157] Re: memtest86+ hang on GA-P35-DS3R with X5470 and 6 GB

2020-06-13 Thread Sebastian Schleitzer
memtest86+ 5.01 integrated in xubuntu 20.04 is crashing. It crashs at
30% (16GB) in the first test, after ~5s running. It is completely
frozen.

I tried three PCs (all PCs: lagacy-boot, NO UEFI)

1.PC: memtest freeze , Desktop xubuntu 20.04 i7-2600, 16GB (4x4GB)

2.PC: memtest freeze , Thinkpad xubuntu 20.04 Thinkpad T520, i7-2670QM,
16GB (2x8GB)

3.PC: memtest is running fine: Thinkpad x220, xubuntu 18.04 i5-2520M 8GB (2x4GB)
I upgraded 3.PC to 20.04 - now memtest is also frozen at 60% (picture in
attachment)

[Bug 1883040] Re: groovy daily won't boot anymore on some older BIOS boxes

2020-06-13 Thread sudodus
@guiverc,

[Unfortunately for squashing this bug] I got rid of some old computers
when I moved to a smaller apartment last summer. My oldest 64-bit
computer now has an Intel i3 processor, and it is not affected by this
bug.

- Can you boot the current groovy mini.iso into the computers affected
by this bug?

- Can you install a text screen system with it?

- Can you install Lubuntu or some other desktop flavour of Ubuntu with
it?

The result of such tests might reveal something about the bug.

[Bug 1872106] Re: isc-dhcp-server crashing constantly [Ubuntu 20.04]

2020-06-13 Thread Michael-250
I'm also trying to get isc-dhcp-server running on ubuntu 20.04 with
dhcp-failover. I'm using a rpi 3b+ and a kvm vm for failover. Both were
running fine with raspbian (rpi) and debian 9 (kvm vm). Now both are
running ubuntu 20.04 and isc-dhcp-server will constantly fail (same
error as mentioned in previous comments).

Yes, syslinux is not involved at all in persistent live drives by mkusb-
dus, so it is innocent.

Will you get more information, when you remove 'quiet splash' from the
linux line in grub?

[Bug 1882991] Re: Kernel 5.4.0-37-generic leads to black screen after grub, 5.4.0-26-generic works normally

2020-06-13 Thread Derek
At some point I was able to purge anything installed with *nvidia* in
it... reboot and get UI without `nomodeset` intervention. I then
installed `nvidia-driver-435` and have left it alone since then. I'll
try 440 again another time.

This bug still exists in 18.04 LTS (and has been present for many

Verified on an Acer Travelmate 2420. Blacklisting the module solves the
problem at the expense of the buttons/switch not functioning properly.

This fix should be ported into the kernel.
