[Bug 1877173] Re: Chromium 81.0.4044.122 crashes on remote ssh connection

2020-06-15 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Your concerns are valid. May I suggest you take them to a new thread on
https://forum.snapcraft.io/ ? There will be many more eyes on it, and
I'm sure you will get more elaborate and constructive answers there,
than in this bug report.

Regarding the source code to build the snaps, in the case of chromium it
is available there for everyone to audit: https://code.launchpad.net
/~chromium-team/chromium-browser/+git/snap-from-source/+ref/stable.

If you are trying to get to the list of apps then clicking Activities is
the wrong way to do that. You instead need to hit Super+A or click on
the dots icon.

[Bug 1883649] [NEW] cloud-init on Ubuntu 18.04 does not set FQDN

2020-06-15 Thread Eddy Resnick
Public bug reported:

I am using cloud-init from ansible 2.9 to set the FQDN on a newly
deployed VM host. In Red Hat and CentOS VMs the FQDN is being set with
the same ansible code but in Ubuntu 18.04 I am only getting the hostname
without the domain. The log file from the Ubuntu VM is attached below.
Red Hat says that this is not an issue with the ansible ovirt_vm package
which is calling the cloud-init library.

1. This machine does not have an Intel GPU so does not use "Intel"
graphics drivers. It's a virtual machine with a "vmwgfx" GPU. You do not
need to install any drivers at all.

2. Please tell us what the problem is.

[Bug 1875299] Re: Apache's mod_remoteip: IP address spoofing via X-Forwarded-For when mod_rewrite rule is triggered

2020-06-15 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Ok, that means we need more than "just" the fix to
https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=60251.
Probably something else that was between 2.4.18 and 2.4.24 ...

The only other change to remoteip itself was [1], but that doesn't seem
to be what we miss.

This issue seemed nice - and I wanted to help to drive it to conclusion
even thou it didn't seem too severe - as the fix was already identified,
but right not this will need deeper analysis what fix(es) we actually
need :-/

@Marcus - if you have more suggestions which might fix it I'm happy to
re-build a PPA for us to test.

[Bug 1882314] Re: Firewall rule in before6.rules for dhcp6 is wrong

2020-06-15 Thread Joshua Stark
Thanks Jamie,

Ah, cool, so that ufw config is when the install is a client.

I am having issues with the install as a DHCPv6 server.

I will revert the UFW changes I have made and add in a new
/etc/ufw/application.d/dhcpd config to allow the install to run a DHCPv6
server

Thanks
Josh

PS. isc-dhcp-server6 when setup, by default is not using "raw" sockets
and thus the ufw rules are enforced

[Bug 1883580] Re: frame drop issue

2020-06-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can't see any obvious reason for the frame dropping yet.

1. When it happens, does 'top' report high CPU in any process?

2. When it happens, please run:

   journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

3. Please run 'gnome-shell-extension-prefs' and disable some/all of the
extensions to see if that avoids the issue.

4. What exactly is dropping frames? Is it a specific app?

Thanks for the bug report.

It appears the tearing issue with the 'modesetting' driver is bug
1853094.

And you might also be experiencing extra flicker when you are using the
'intel' driver, which is bug 1867668.

So it seems you have to choose one bug or the other right now, sorry :(

Re: [Bug 1877173] Re: Chromium 81.0.4044.122 crashes on remote ssh connection

2020-06-15 Thread mike Bernson
The pinning is holding me back for moving from current version to 20.04.

So far the only option I see is to use the beta you pointed me to or switch
to google-chrome which looks like there still create debs.

Not being able to pin things and not being able to choose when the snap upgrade
is a problem for product system. We use zfs for all the containers in
production. We
take a snapshot before upgrade the deb packages. And if thing fail we the
rollback
to the snapshot then clone container into testing area look at what failed. We
can
then pin the deb we think caused and start testing again. Once the zfs clone
work
we then apply the pin needed in production and the upgrade the production
container.

For the time being we are only forced into snap for chromium. If we are force
into snap for
other packages there a few lib that we have patches for to make sure they can
not access
share memory for X11 (modify the testing for share memory to allways fail)
which make
all of Gnome base code work 100% on the time instead of 60% without the patches.

Having to modified version of some lib will become a problem if more programs
become
snap. We can config apt to allow us to handle this. We see now way to handle
this under
snaps.

Also since the source code to build the snap is not  there is no way to
audit the snaps.

Is there a good to post the problem we have with snap to see if something can be
done to expand the snap system to handle the problem we see.

Snap might work for the standard desktop system but a big problem for server in
production.
We try to have a tight control over when updates to production happen and why.

Once snap has way for us to build them to make sure that they match the source
code and allow
us to fix problem and submit the fixes upstream they might look better to us.
Also snap should
have a way to configure ping/holding version and allow us to control when
updates happen.

It looks like you are taking away control of system with snaps.

[Bug 1883456] Re: Video lag while in Discord

2020-06-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I don't think that upstream bug is relevant because 3v1n0 says it was
fixed by a change we already have in 20.04:

  https://github.com/ubuntu/gnome-shell-extension-
appindicator/commit/8b8455906f

Although bug 1849142 might be the issue if we can find that message in
your log... Please run this command WHILE the problem is happening:

and attach the resulting text file here.

[Bug 1881982] Re: memory exhaustion in parse_report()

2020-06-15 Thread Seong-Joong Kim
** Description changed:

  Hi,

I have found a security issue on whoopsie 0.2.69 and earlier.

  ## Vulnerability in whoopsie
- - whoopsie 0.2.69 and earlier have a memory leak vulnerability.
- - An attacker can cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted
.crash file.
+ - It was discovered that whoopsie incorrectly handled certain malformed crash
files. If a user using whoopsie were tricked into parsing and uploading a
specially crafted crash file, an attacker could exploit this to cause a denial
of service.

  ## Basic
When a program has been crashed, Linux system tries to create a '.crash' file
on '/var/crash/' directory with python script located in
'/usr/share/apport/apport'.
The file contains a series of system crash information including core dump,
syslog, stack trace, memory map info, etc.
A user is given read and write permission to the file.
After then, whoopsie parses key-value pairs in ‘.crash’ file and encodes it
into binary json (bson) format.
Lastly, whoopsie forwards the data to a remotely connected Ubuntu error
report system.

  ## Vulnerability
We have found a memory leak vulnerability during the parsing the crash file,
when a collision occurs on GHashTable through g_hash_table_insert().
According to [1], if the key already exists in the GHashTable, its current
value is replaced with the new value.
If 'key_destory_func' and 'value_destroy_func' are supplied when creating the
table, the old value and the passed key are freed using that function.
Unfortunately, whoopsie does not handle the old value and the passed key when
collision happens.
If a crash file contains same repetitive key-value pairs, it leads to memory
leak as much as the amount of repetition and results in denial-of-service.

  ## Attack
- 1) Create a fake.crash file
- memory_leak_poc.py script measures an available memory and generates a
malicious crash file that contains same repetitive key-value pairs as much as
20% of the available memory size; 'ProblemType: Crash'.
- 20% indicates arbitrary amount of the memory leakage.
- 2) Before the attack, the script checks memory usage of whoopsie process with
psutil
- 3) It triggers the whoopsie to read the fake.crash file
- 4) Then, it measures the memory usage of whoopsie process
- 5) It results in denial-of-service and then other users can no longer report
crash to the Ubuntu error report system.
+ 1) Generates a certain malformed crash file that contains same repetitive
key-value pairs.
+ 2) Trigger the whoopsie to read the generated crash file.
+ 3) After then, the whoopsie process has been killed.

  ## Mitigation
We should use g_hash_table_new_full() with ‘key_destroy_func’ and
‘value_destroy_func’ functions instead of g_hash_table_new().
Otherwise, before g_hash_table_insert(), we should check the collision via
g_hash_table_lookup_extended() and obtain pointer to the old value and remove
it.

  Sincerely,

  [1] https://developer.gnome.org/glib/stable/glib-Hash-Tables.html#g

[Bug 1882525] Re: [amdgpu] MATE desktop is corrupted upon login on Ryzen APU

That's not surprising. Any bug in MATE, or bug experienced via Marco,
might be years old and also present in Ubuntu 19.10. But more likely
this bug is the combined result of MATE + AMD meaning it might have only
just become noticeable in 20.04.

[Bug 1882986] Re: open-iscsi is slowing down the boot process

2020-06-15 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Zakhar,

For the automatic logins, I suggest you to read the following
documentation:

https://ubuntu.com/server/docs/service-iscsi

I have created that explaining the need of registering iscsi
"interfaces" in iscsi daemon and all needed commands to have that.

$ sudo iscsiadm -m node --loginall=automatic
iscsiadm: No records found

This will only work if you have the interfaces ready and configured in
iscsi daemon (follow the documentation example).

The way I see, if you follow the documentation I have provided, the
only difference will be that you don't want auto login to be set. You
can either change iscsid.conf setting automatic login to manual BEFORE
the discovery, or you can update already discovered nodes/targets
with:

$ sudo iscsiadm -m node --op=update -n node.conn[0].startup -v manual
$ sudo iscsiadm -m node --op=update -n node.startup -v manual

This will allow you to login and logout manually but, yet, the daemons
to start with no waiting time.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration
problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as
'Incomplete'.

However, if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then we
would be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of
the problem with steps to reproduce, explain why you believe this is a
bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then
change the bug status back to "New".

For local configuration issues, you can find assistance here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

[Bug 1833229] Re: `--extra-index-url` not working for PIP

2020-06-15 Thread andrei
I'm not sure how the LTS system works, but for me this doesn't look
Fixed if bug is still present in bionic.

I guess, a quick workaround is to put pip2 >=20.0.2 whl to the extra-
index-url repo and use it.

[Bug 1882453] Re: [nvidia] GUI blanks after long period of use

2020-06-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. Although system memory is perfectly healthy and there's no
obvious leak in gnome-shell, I suspect the problem here might be a leak
of GPU memory/resources (which won't show up in 'ps')

Are you able to find some Nvidia tools to report GPU memory usage?

[Bug 1880728] Re: [amdgpu] Xorg freeze

2020-06-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. Certainly gnome-shell is crashing so we should focus on those:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/f1dcc3fa-988e-11ea-ad8b-fa163e983629
https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/f3279c74-95fc-11ea-a45e-fa163e6cac46
https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/53690272-9516-11ea-a9c3-fa163ee63de6

Unfortunately there isn't any debugging information available in those.

What I can see is a recurring problem with your ViewSonic monitor being
redetected/reconnected on DVI regularly. So it looks like there's a
connection problem there which might be triggering this. Please try
replacing the DVI cable, or leaving the ViewSonic unplugged for a while
to see if the problem goes away.

Please also run this command:

  gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.shell > settings.txt

and then attach the resulting text file here.
