[Bug 1890438] Re: Ubuntu Groovy proposed:networkd-dispatcher.service ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'glib'

2020-08-21 Thread kortewegdevries
I a guessing this is what that fixed it:

Apparently gobject PyGObject were missing for the root user but was
installed for me. So I installed both as root via pip and it works fine,
or it could be a update I didn't follow...

2020-08-21 Thread Lee Gimblett
Same issue here - After upgrade to mutter 3.36.4 yesterday. On reboot
the system fonts look like X2. Jiggle the Scaling Factor settings up
then back to 1.00 fixes the issue until the next login. Primary monitor
has resolution of 3440 x 1440.

[Bug 1873731] Re: release-upgrade allowed an upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 although a strange version of gcc-10-base was installed

2020-08-21 Thread David Tolnay
I had the same issue with gcc-10-base upgrading 18.04 to 20.04 after
having used the ubuntu-toolchain-r/test ppa. The following fixed it:

$ sudo apt install ppa-purge
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test
$ sudo ppa-purge -o ubuntu-toolchain-r -p test
$ sudo apt dist-upgrade
$ sudo apt autoremove

The ppa-purge automatically downgraded gcc-10-base, libatomic1,
libcc1-0, libgcc-s1, libgomp1, libitm1, liblsan0, libquadmath0,
libstdc++6, libtsan0 to the ones provided by focal. After that, the
dist-upgrade was able to upgrade build-essential, g++, gcc.

[Bug 1892559] [NEW] [MIR] ccid libpam-pkcs1 libpcsc-perl opensc pcsc-tools

2020-08-21 Thread Seth Arnold
Public bug reported:

==> ccid <==
[Availability]
ccid is in universe, and builds on all architectures.

[Rationale]
The desktop team and security team are interested in bringing smartcard
authentication to enterprise desktop environments.

[Security]
No CVEs for ccid are listed in our database.
Doesn't appear to bind to a socket.
No privileged executables, but does have udev rules.
Probably needs a security review.

[Quality assurance]
No test suite.
Does require odd hardware that we'll probably need to buy.
I don't see debconf questions.
ccid is well maintained in Debian by upstream author.
One open wishlist bug in BTS, harmless.

One open bug in launchpad, not security, but looks very frustrating
for the users. The upstream author was engaged but it never reached
resolution. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ccid/+bug/1175465

Has a debian/watch file.
Quilt packaging.

P: ccid source: no-dep5-copyright
P: ccid source: package-uses-experimental-debhelper-compat-version 13

[Dependencies]
Minimal dependencies, in main

[Standards compliance]
Appears to satisfy FHS and Debian policy

[Maintenance]
The desktop team will subscribe to bugs, however it is expected that the
security team will assist with security-relevant questions.

[Background information]
ccid provides drivers to interact with usb-connected smart card readers.

==> libpam-pkcs11 <==
[Availability]
Source package pam-pkcs11 is in universe and builds on all architectures.

[Rationale]
The desktop team and security team are interested in bringing smartcard
authentication to enterprise desktop environments.

[Security]
No CVEs in our database.
Doesn't appear to bind to sockets.
No privileged executables (but is a PAM module).
As a PAM module this will require a security review.

[Quality assurance]
The package does not call pam-auth-update in its postinst #1650366
Does not ask questions during install.
One Ubuntu bug claims very poor behaviour if a card isn't plugged in.
No Debian bugs.
Occasional updates in Debian by long-term maintainer.
Does require odd hardware that we'll probably need to buy.
Does not appear to run tests during build.
Has scary warnings in the build logs.
Has a debian/watch file.

Ancient standards version; other smaller lintian messages, mostly
documentation problems.

Quilt packaging.

[Dependencies]
Depends on libcurl4, libldap-2.4-2, libpam0g, libpcsclite1, libssl1.1
All are in main.

[Standards compliance]
The package does not call pam-auth-update in its postinst #1650366
Otherwise looks to conform to FHS and Debian policies

[Maintenance]
The desktop team will subscribe to bugs, however it is expected that the
security team will assist with security-relevant questions.

[Background information]
This PAM module can use CRLs and full-chain verification of certificates.
It can also do LDAP, AD, and Kerberos username mapping.

==> libpcsc-perl <==
[Availability]
Source package pcsc-perl is in universe, builds for all architectures,
plus i386

[Rationale]
The desktop team and security team are interested in bringing smartcard
authentication to enterprise desktop environments.

[Security]
There are no cves for pcsc-perl in our database.
No privileged executables.
Doesn't appear to bind to sockets.
Probably needs a security review.

[Quality assurance]
Library package not intended to be used directly.
No debconf questions.
No bugs in Debian.
No bugs in Ubuntu.
Does require odd hardware that we'll probably need to buy.
Tests exist, not run during the build; probably can't run during the build.
Includes debian/watch file.
A handful of lintian issues
Quilt packaging.

[Dependencies]
libpcsc-perl depends upon libpcsclite1, libc6, perl, perlapi-5.30.0.
All are in main.

[Standards compliance]
One oddity, Card.pod is stored in
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl5/5.30/Chipcard/PCSC/
Many other perl packages have .pod files in these directory trees so maybe
it's fine, but it seems funny all the same.

Otherwise appears to satisfy FHS and Debian policy.

[Maintenance]
The desktop team will subscribe to bugs, however it is expected that the
security team will assist with security-relevant questions.

[Background information]
Dependency of pcsc-tools; this library provides an API to work with smart
cards and card readers.

==> opensc <==
[Availability]
Both opensc and opensc-pkcs11
In universe, builds for all architectures.

[Rationale]
The desktop team and security team are interested in bringing smartcard
authentication to enterprise desktop environments.

[Security]
26 CVEs in our database. None open in groovy.
No privileged executables.
Does not appear to bind to sockets.
Probably needs a security review.

[Quality assurance]
Unknown configuration effort.

[Bug 1892427] Re: [amdgpu] HDMI connected TV wakeup problems

2020-08-21 Thread Nicholas Strauss
> I wonder though if this is also a problem with the TV failing to sleep
> correctly
> and instead disconnecting from the computer... "

I tried turning the TV off with the remote, then turning the TV back on.

Looks like the same (or similar) condition.

All the windows on the second display lost their geometry. I can see
them in the launcher view, but they are gone somewhere. Perhaps their
coordinates have traveled off-screen?

[Bug 1887943] Re: [SRU] TLS is not enabled for memcached>=1.5.13

2020-08-21 Thread Bryce Harrington
The update-maintainer is fine, that is just saying it was already
updated so no extra change needed. You can ignore it.

As to the info: fuzz message, if that's just a warning and debuild is
successfully producing a *source.changes, that's fine, you can go ahead
and put it into the PPA via:

  dput ppa: *source.changes

If it isn't producing a *source.changes file, not sure what's
happening... copy in a larger snippet of the build log and we'll go from
there.

Btw, I'll be out of town next week on PTO. I've asked my co-workers to
keep an eye on this bug and help out, but if you need someone to chat
with directly, head to IRC on freenode, channel #ubuntu-devel.

[Bug 1892558] [NEW] binhex always segfaults

2020-08-21 Thread Nathaniel Beaver
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

binhex -H

Expected result: binhex prints help information

Actual result: binhex crashes with SIGSEGV

Comments: binhex doesn't only crash with the -H flag, it crashes with
any flag. It appears to crash in the main() function before any argument
handling actually happens.

Version is 2.0b3-16build1.

2020-08-21 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Is there something funny with this machine that would prevent changing

[Bug 1878974] Re: Unable to use HP USB Printer in Ubuntu 20.04 - apear to be hplip issues

2020-08-21 Thread Till Kamppeter
ippusbxd has known problems and it will get replaced by ipp-usb where
these problems are solved. See the MIR for ipp-usb, bug 1891157.

With this replacement driverless printing will work correctly and so
most modern HP printers will work without HPLIP at all.

[Bug 1891157] Re: [MIR] ipp-usb

2020-08-21 Thread Till Kamppeter
The replacement of ippusbxd by ipp-usb is also important as ippusbxd
sometimes causes problems which makes people end up not being able to
print and scan at all.

See bug 1878974

An HP printer which works with HPLIP triggers the launch of ippusbxd,
because the printer also supports IPP-over-USB and driverless printing
and scanning, but due to the bugs (or architectural shortcomings) of
ippusbxd the communication between the printer and CUPS/SANE does not
work correctly, making printing and scanning fail.

On the development of ipp-usb these shortcomings were identified and
fixed and according to user reports ipp-usb is reliable.

[Bug 1892455] Re: [MIR] libselinux1

2020-08-21 Thread Seth Arnold
libselinux1 has been in main for many years:

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/libs/libselinux/

Balint recently did some +1 work that mentioned libselinux:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2020-July/041095.html but
I don't read that as suggesting that libselinux1 has been moved out of
main.

The archives also don't show libselinux1 in universe:

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/libs/libselinux/

Can you double-check my reasoning here?

Thanks

[Bug 1877798] Re: The "areas" click-method doesn't work with "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" on "Clevo N141ZU" laptop

2020-08-21 Thread Jaromir Obr
I have the same problem with touchpad in laptop "Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 14 with
Ryzen 4700u".
My Ubuntu 20.04 setting is "Tweaks => Keyboard & Mouse => Mouse Click Emulation
=> Area".

With this setting: Three finger tap works as a middle click and two finger tap
works as a right click which is actually incorrect behavior. I would like to
use upper right corner for middle click.
I tried to install "xserver-xorg-input-synaptics", but it doesn't fix it.

The upper right corner tap worked well with my previous laptop HP Envy
13" Skylake, with installed package "xserver-xorg-input-synaptics", in
Ubuntu 20.04. So the issue is HW dependent.

[Bug 1851518] Re: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones

2020-08-21 Thread John Hoff
@gannon1

I follow the concept. I tried first using vmware workstation, mostly
just cause I already had it installed for another purpose, but
unfortunately no luck there. Vmware abstracts the underlying hardware
and windows doesn't even see it as a realtek audio device. I also
shared the problem of not being able to get samsung update installed,
but I used your driver download you posted and it did install, but sadly
I can't get speaker sound even with the driver in wmware...

So, I will see if I can find some time this weekend to get qemu going.
One thought on your other thread... if you suspend or reboot the entire
VM then you will see tons of traffic as it communicates with every
hardware device. Perhaps instead you could just go into device manager
and then disable and re-enable the audio device specifically while
tracing. Seems like it would greatly reduce the search data, assuming
it actually issues the needed command during a disable... just a
thought...

A few days ago, I upgraded from Ubuntu 19 to Ubuntu 20. Ever since then,
whenever I watch a video (Youtube and Netflix in both Firefox and
Chrome, people streaming their webcams in GoToMeeting in Chrome, etc),
the resident memory usage of kwin_x11 climbs up at a rate of about 100MB
per 5-10 seconds to the point where it takes all the ram and swap (see
screenshot attached, though it goes even higher). When it has filled my
ram and swap, it just stops increasing. Then, if I open a new window of
whatever app (or perform some other action on the desktop), I will get a
lag and memory usage will drop down to almost nothing. Letting the video
play will result in memory usage increasing in the same fashion again
and again.

I'm not sure if it's related, but I'm also seeing some segfaults in
dmesg, but I was unable to correlate the timing of the segfault with
high memory usage so far:

[Bug 1890903] Re: systemd-resolved.service still breaks (now 20.04, since as least 16)

2020-08-21 Thread Gerben
I think I'll steer away from systemd-resolved

1) it does not favor my primary nameserver (after a switch it'll not switch
back, but continue any failover server)
2) in the end it can even use a nameserver which I have not provided (which is
set by the packagebuilder)

Reading into some threads on systemd-resolved it is clear all
nameservers are expected equal. This is clearly not the case with small
business (or any business, if you ask me).

The uncontrolled usage of the external nameserver set by the
packagebuilder is also a weird choice.

These choices might be OK in certain situations (e.g. a laptop to access
the web for the wife), but clearly fails my needs.

To change to something else, seel (e.g.):

https://askubuntu.com/questions/907246/how-to-disable-systemd-resolved-in-ubuntu

(probably this is the cause of some nameserver issue I reported on
docker, where docker clients ended up using 8.8.8.8)

2020-08-21 Thread Vedran Rafaelic
Yes. Happens to me since today's update. (21 August 2020)

I have font's scaling factor at 1.00. But after reboot fonts are at like
2.00 factor. The factor on the settings is still shown as 1.00.
Modifying the factor fixes the issue but has to be done after each
reboot.

I'm also seeing this problem with 20.04.1 with all the latest patches.
I have an AMD GPU (Vega 64), and dual monitors (5k2k and 4k, with
display scaling 125%). Interestingly the extra cursor shows up larger
than my normal cursor, and doesn't show up in screen shots like the
normal cursor.

[Bug 1892529] Re: `catkin` doesn't recognize `lint` verb

2020-08-21 Thread John Morris
This patch reverses the dependencies, so `catkin-lint` pulls in `python3
-catkin-lint`. The Python libs are in the `python3-catkin-lint` package
now.

This fixes the problem for me, but I'm just a dabbler in Debian
packaging, so I don't know the greater ramifications of esp. the
dependency reversal.

[Bug 1892529] [NEW] `catkin` doesn't recognize `lint` verb

2020-08-21 Thread John Morris
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Focal with these package versions installed:
python3-catkin-tools0.5.0-1
python3-catkin-lint 1.6.6-1

The `catkin lint` command fails:

$ catkin lint
usage: catkin [-h] [-a] [--test-colors] [--version] [--force-color | --no-color]
  [build | clean | config | create | env | init | list | locate |
profile] ...

Error: Unknown verb 'lint' provided.

The problem is that the `catkin-lint` package installs its Python
package into the `/usr/share/catkin-lint/catkin_lint` directory, which
is of course a non-standard location, outside of `sys.path`. Because of
this, `pkg_resources` can't find the `/usr/share/catkin-
lint/catkin_lint-1.6.6.egg-info/entry_points.txt` file, and `catkin`
doesn't know about the `lint` verb.

The `catkin lint` command works fine when installed via `pip install
catkin-lint`, which puts the Python package in the expected location.

Digging deeper, I see the `python3-catkin-lint` package is just a stub
package that depends on `catkin-lint`, and customizes the `pybuild`
configuration. I don't know how to fix that, exactly.

The NEW package (motd-news-config) needs to be accepted, and needs to go

meta needs to be accepted together with this.

It still could be that your project doesn't use pkg-config properly -
you probably need something like `pkg-config --cflags --libs
allegro_audio-5` for the compiler to find the include folder.
