[Bug 1892358] Re: autopkgtest success rate dropped inhibiting proposed migration
To match the open packages blocked on this in active releases I added linux-meta for BIonic (thanks Kleber for the hint) and Focal (Thanks Kelsey for the hint). I think all of those had enough of retry-until-success and I'd ask again for how we should proceed there. Masking/Resetting the test via an override would throw away so much other coverage, but lacking other feedback I'll at least proposed the change - maybe this also brings more attention to here. [Bug 665117] Re: glxgears really jerky on Maverick
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) reached end-of-life on April 10, 2012. See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling us which new version it is in and change the bug status to Confirmed. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/665117 Title: glxgears really jerky on Maverick To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/665117/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.
I'd updated the debdiff to insert a DEP-3 header. Here is the new debdiff. ** Patch added: "gdm3_3.34.1-1ubuntu2.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1845801/+attachment/5406013/+files/gdm3_3.34.1-1ubuntu2.debdiff ** Attachment removed: "gdm3_3.34.1-1ubuntu2.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1845801/+attachment/5405700/+files/gdm3_3.34.1-1ubuntu2.debdiff ** Description changed: [ Impact ] In some platforms with specific Nvidia cards (with nvidia-driver-440), enable auto-login (either during installation or after installation) will fail (either stuck in gdm login screen and not able to login even typing correct password). [ Test Case ] Here are two scenario of auto login with groovy (20.10) daily build[1]: 1) Checked "Install third-party software" (e.g. nvidia-driver) with enabling "Login automatically" during installation. 2) Install groovy daily build with default options, after installation completed: 2.1) Install nvidia-driver-440 (450.57-0ubuntu2) from ubuntu-archive. 2.2) Enable "Login automatically" from system settings. Then reboot. [Expected result] System will boot into desktop environment without the login page. [Actual result] System boots to login page, and can't login to desktop environment with the correct password. [ Regression potential ] - Low, the patch comes from upstream[2] to use /dev/tty1 (instead of tty0) to prevent the auto-login user gets tty1. I did verified gdm3 from my PPA[3] and it works good. It passed the 30 times reboot stress test by using stress/reboot_30 from checkbox. + Medium, the patch comes from upstream[2] to use /dev/tty1 (instead of tty0) to prevent the auto-login user gets tty1. After boot, I'm shown the GDM login screen (which I shouldn't; I have auto login enabled), and logging in just takes me back to the same user selection screen even though the password is correct. If I switch to a TTY and run `sudo pkill gnome-session-binary`, logging in through GDM starts working again. I should add that the do-release-upgrade was rocky; I did it in a terminal from within gnome, went away for a while, and when I returned, I just saw an Ubuntu 19.10 in a TTY. I was able to do `sudo dpkg --configure -a` and complete the upgrade, but I don't know if something's still messed up due to that. Hi Daniel, Thank you for your quick response. The details are here. 1. Selecting 'Ubuntu on Wayland' from the login screen. Do you now get 4K modes offered in Settings? - I don't see any Wayland option. The max resolution at Display Settings is 1080p. 2. Run: grep . /sys/class/drm/*/modes > kernel-modes.txt - Attached the file. [Bug 1892973] Re: gnome-session fails, and fails, and fails yet again
Thanks. This appears to be an Nvidia hardware or driver fault. Since this is the first time I've ever seen this (other Nvidia users don't seem to encounter the same issue) I would suggest the simplest solution would be to change the graphics card. Otherwise you will need to seek support from Nvidia themselves. [Bug 1886112] Re: Enabling DMESG_RESTRICT in Groovy Onward
As per my most recent email to ubuntu-devel, I am marking the changes to util-linux as Won't Fix. Relevant mailing list discussion (for future reference): Ansgar responded on debian-devel mentioning that adding cap_syslog to dmesg enables the user to clear the kernel log buffer: https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2020/08/msg00121.html>> > That grants additional rights to the `adm` group that it did not have > before, for example to clear the dmesg buffer: > > $ dmesg --clear > > works after adding `cap_syslog` to the dmesg binary whereas it did not > work before. Chris Hofstaedtler, the maintainer of util-linux, mentions that granting such powers to members of adm is more or less unacceptable: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2020-August/041151.html > Re-enabling dmesg for the %adm group does not seem to add value for > Debian now, and granting the --clear (and other) permissions seems > to be too much. This was further acked by Steve Langasek: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2020-August/041152.html > I agree, and on that basis I also do not believe we should include this > change to util-linux in Ubuntu. Because of this, I will no longer pursue opening dmesg up to users in the adm group, or at least until cap_syslog gets a read-only sister capability. Hopefully Ubuntu users won't be too inconvenienced by having to run dmesg as superuser. Users can always turn off the behaviour, by setting "kernel.dmesg_restrict = 0" in /etc/sysctl.d/10-kernel-hardening.conf ** Changed in: util-linux (Ubuntu Groovy) Status: In Progress => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1886112 Title: Enabling DMESG_RESTRICT in Groovy Onward To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1886112/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In my case I am behind a KVM, but my Windows device and my Ubuntu 18.04 server work perfectly, only my 20.04 desktop crashes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1887210 Title: USB DAC/AMP unselectable from Sound Settings and crashes alsamixer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1887210/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1875163] Re: rdiff-backup crashes when running backup
My apologies. I resolved this locally back in April but I forgot to come back here and update the ticket when I resolved the problem. This is a known bug that has been fixed in the rdiff-backup repo: https://github.com/rdiff-backup/rdiff-backup/issues/310 The code was fixed way back in March, but it never made it into 20.04. Since the files that were causing the errors for me were all in /run, my fix was just to add /run to my list of excluded directories. That was an easy decision for me since I probably should have been excluding them anyway. Good luck! ** Bug watch added: github.com/rdiff-backup/rdiff-backup/issues #310 https://github.com/rdiff-backup/rdiff-backup/issues/310 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875163 Title: rdiff-backup crashes when running backup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rdiff-backup/+bug/1875163/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1893578] [NEW] Touchpad recognized as a generic mouse
Public bug reported: Hello! The touchpad of my "Bangho G05 Zero" laptop is recognized by "xinput list" as a "ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse". I been try everything these days, but I do anything about it :(. I had come to the conclusion that probably is a kernel bug, it shouldn't recognize it at least as some kind of "generic touchpad"? The thing is that I can't do gestures like two-fingers scrolling and that is a killing drawback for me to use this laptop. There is a way to force the touchpad recognition with some hack? Any help will we much appreaciated. [Bug 1528422] Re: Additional drivers reports the wrong driver in use
Similar issue here: I was using kernel 5.4.0.42.46 with nvidia-drivers-440, installed 5.8.3, booted into the new kernel and the graphics were way worse. Software & Updates still has the radio button selected for nvidia, see attached, this looked terrible stretched across a 3440*1440 screen. but: hwinfo --gfxcard Driver Info #0: Driver Status: nvidiafb is not active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe nvidiafb" Driver Info #1: Driver Status: nouveau is not active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe nouveau" Config Status: cfg=new, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown Then, Selected nouveau driver, apply, hwinfo says both drivers still inactive, restarted, looks good (hi res), nvidia settings absent from start menu settings, nouveau radio button highlit in software & updates, hwinfo --gfxcard Driver Info #0: Driver Status: nvidiafb is not active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe nvidiafb" Driver Info #1: Driver Status: nouveau is active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe nouveau" Config Status: cfg=new, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown Attached to: #7 (PCI bridge) So nouveau is being used, graphics problem fixed, nvidia definitely the culprit of the graphics issues which had been plaguing me for about a year. I'll file a bug with them, however part of what took me so long to diagnose this was that I thought the nouveau drivers were broken since I could only get 1024*768. I spent hours trying to fix that, to no avail. Turns out there was nothing wrong with them, they just weren't selected. I didn't know this because I didn't think to check, I just believed the radio button. Feasibly the selected item is highlit until changed in the GUI or backend by the user, but it doesn't do an internal check (hwinfo or otherwise) to confirm that the driver it thinks is selected, is selected?
