[Bug 1867366] Re: hostnqn fails to automatically generate after installing nvme-cli

2020-09-04 Thread Dan Streetman
** Description changed:

  [impact]

"nvme gen-hostnqn" does not work, leading to no content in
  /etc/nvme/hostnqn

  [test case]

  ddstreet@thorin:~$ cat /etc/nvme/hostnqn

  ddstreet@thorin:~$ nvme gen-hostnqn
"gen-hostnqn" not supported. Install lib uuid and rebuild.

  [regression potential]

any regression would likely involve a failure of nvme to interact with
nvmeof devices, or for other systems connecting to this nvme fabric
  target to encounter errors

also, the upload for Focal includes a postinst check for the hardcoded
- hostid value (from the 1.9-1 package), and if it's found, it regenerates
- it (so the host has a unique generated value). Anyone using the old
- hardcoded hostid will be affected by this
+ hostid value (from the 1.9-1 package), and if it's found *and* the
+ hostnqn is not set (meaning the system has not been setup yet), it
+ regenerates it (so the host has a unique generated value). Any
+ regression in this area would likely involve the same issues as above
+ with NVMEoF problems, either in connecting or operating the system as a
+ target.
+
+ see comments 11-17 for more analysis of the issue and regression
+ potential.

  [scope]

xenial does not include the gen-hostnqn command, so this is needed only
  for bionic and later.

- note that in bionic, the 'gen-hostnqn' command exists, but the
- /etc/nvme/hostnqn file is not provided by the package.
+ in bionic, the 'gen-hostnqn' command exists, but the /etc/nvme/hostnqn
+ file is not (yet) provided by the package, however per recommendation in
+ comment 17, the postinst script is being added to the bionic upload, so
+ the hostid and hostnqn files will be generated at package installation.

I just noticed that, inside the login screen, making text larger (using
the top-right accessibility menu option) and toggling it back to its
normal size, makes the ellipsis disappear. Only for that session, of
course.

[Bug 1891623] Re: Can't build Libreoffice with gcc-10, always ends with a Segmentation Fault in the build or resulting binaries

2020-09-04 Thread Matthias Klose
I am opening a libreoffice task, and closing the gcc-10 task. I didn't
see any ICE during my debugging work. Unfortunately the package doesn't

[Bug 1894073] Re: Duplicity fails backups with message "SHA1 hash mismatch for file..." every single time

2020-09-04 Thread Michael Terry
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1360734 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1360734

Hmm, I'm sorry this is happening! I've seen reports of duplicity giving
this error before. I'll mark this bug as a duplicate of one of them.

Practically, until this gets fixed, I'd say try deleting ~/.cache/deja-
dup/ and if that doesn't work, maybe move the file in the error message
on the backend into a different folder (or delete it, but moving it will
let you still have it if you need it for some reason).

Check that you have less files in /var/lib/apt/lists than ulimit -n has

[Bug 1894234] [NEW] Bluetooth not working with Gnome in Groovy (20.10)

2020-09-04 Thread James Lewis
Public bug reported:

Having plugged in a USB bluetooth dongle, the gnome-bluetooth settiogs
report that I have no bluetooth adapter, and I should plug one in.

At the same time, I can see the bluetooth adapter with hciconfig, and in
fact, I can pair with remote bluetooth devices using a 3rd party
bluetooth manager (blueman).

Obviously this is not ideal, as it is not fully integrated with gnome,
sound devices are not fully available etc..

I'm not sure what else I can provide, but:-

[Bug 1853572] Re: realm fails with option --computer-ou

2020-09-04 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Hello,

sorry for taking so long to get to this bug. realmd was recently
promoted to main and I'm going over the existing bugs to see what I can
fix with an update I'm preparing.

I tried your use case here with a 2019 windows ad server, and it worked.
Here is what I did:

- created an OU called "linux computers" (note the whitespace) right beside the
existing computers one. It became "OU=linux computers,DC=ad1,DC=example,DC=com"
- ran this command on the client:

ubuntu@g-adclient1:~$ sudo realm join -v --computer-ou="OU=linux
computers,DC=ad1,DC=example,DC=com" --os-name=ubuntu --os-version=20.10
--client-software=sssd --automatic-id-mapping=no --membership-software=samba
--computer-name=G-ADCLIENT1 ad1.example.com
 * Resolving: _ldap._tcp.ad1.example.com
 * Performing LDAP DSE lookup on: 10.51.0.5
 * Successfully discovered: ad1.example.com
Password for Administrator:
 * Unconditionally checking packages
 * Resolving required packages
 * Joining using a manual netbios name: G-ADCLIENT1
 * LANG=C LOGNAME=root /usr/bin/net -s /var/cache/realmd/realmd-smb-conf.DPICQ0
-U Administrator ads join ad1.example.com createcomputer=linux computers
osName=ubuntu osVer=20.10
Enter Administrator's password:
Using short domain name -- AD1
Joined 'G-ADCLIENT1' to dns domain 'ad1.example.com'
 * LANG=C LOGNAME=root /usr/bin/net -s /var/cache/realmd/realmd-smb-conf.DPICQ0
-U Administrator ads keytab create
Enter Administrator's password:
 * /usr/sbin/update-rc.d sssd enable
 * /usr/sbin/service sssd restart
 * Successfully enrolled machine in realm

ldapsearch confirms the creation in the right place:
ubuntu@g-adclient1:~$ ldapsearch -LLL -Y GSSAPI -b "ou=linux
computers,dc=ad1,dc=example,dc=com" objectClass=computer dn cn operatingSystem
operatingSystemServicePack operatingSystemVersion
SASL/GSSAPI authentication started
SASL username: administra...@ad1.example.com
SASL SSF: 256

cn: G-ADCLIENT1
operatingSystem: ubuntu
operatingSystemVersion: 20.10
operatingSystemServicePack: Samba 4.12.5-Ubuntu

The error you got:
Failed to join domain: failed to precreate account in ou
ou=Linux-Clients,ou=Client Computer,ou=alle Computer,dc=DOMAIN: No such object

Seems to imply that one or more components of that tree didn't exist.
Let me try again with a space elsewhere in the DN, closer to what you
have in your example:

Ok, now I have OU=linux-computers,OU=client computers,OU=all
computers,DC=ad1,DC=example,DC=com

Still worked:
ubuntu@g-adclient1:~$ sudo realm join -v
--computer-ou="OU=linux-computers,OU=client computers,OU=all
computers,DC=ad1,DC=example,DC=com" --os-name=ubuntu --os-version=20.10

[Bug 1880853] Re: libc6-lse lets update-initramfs fail on AWS m6g instances

2020-09-04 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Sorah, or anyone else affected,

Accepted initramfs-tools into bionic-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-
tools/0.130ubuntu3.10 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1894230] [NEW] Device queue depth should be 31 not 32

2020-09-04 Thread Bobby B
Public bug reported:

Setting drive device/queue_depth to 31 from 32 resolved an issue whereby
I had numerous zpool and ATA errors but only under high load (zpool
scrub) or when trimming the drives. Was able to reduce incidence by
setting to libata.force=noncqtrim, and resolve with libata.force=noncq,
but with an obvious performance impact.

Upstream kernel seems to be aware of this issue, so I'm assuming this is
a downstream or udev configuration issue, see:
https://ata.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Libata_FAQ#Enabling.2C_disabling_and_checking_NCQ

Scrub repaired all errors, but, because repairs were made, it seems like
it's not just a communications issue, and that there is the potential
for DATA LOSS on non-redundant and/or non-ZFS configurations.

Sample syslog error:

Hello Carsten, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gcc-10 into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-10/10.2.0-5ubuntu1~20.04 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal.

[Bug 1894225] Re: Blocked UI and 100% cpu in gnome-shell when selecting text

2020-09-04 Thread Bogdan Harjoc
After looking through other processes that use CPU while selecting text,
I noticed clipit there as well. Closing clipit seems to improve things a
lot. I still see gnome-shell go to 25% CPU but the UI is responsive now.

[Bug 1886148] Re: failure to boot groovy daily

2020-09-04 Thread sudodus
@ Leó Kolbeinsson (leok),

Thanks for this heads up :-)

It was likely that an updated version of the BIOS system could fix this
issue. I did the BIOS update, and it was successful. The computer works
after the update :-)

But it did not fix this bug. The temporary boot option

"Linpus Lite ()"

is still not working with the current daily Groovy iso files :-(

-o-

Also after the upgrade (with AHCI and legacy alias BIOS boot) the option

"USB Hdd: "

works with USB drives cloned from the current Ubuntu Groovy as well as
Lubuntu Groovy.

[Bug 1866250] Re: nautilus crashes under wayland when trying to unmount an external drive

2020-09-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1894224] [NEW] LO not built consistently with the same optimization flags

2020-09-04 Thread Matthias Klose
Public bug reported:

looking at least at the succeeding armhf build logs, optimization flags
are picked up from different places, once injected from dpkg-buidflags,
and then hard-coded in solenv/gbuild/platform/LINUX__GCC.mk

These really should match. Or maybe disable the settings from solenv at
all?

[Bug 1879481] Re: update gcc-9 and gcc-10 packages for focal

2020-09-04 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
** Description changed:

As done for gcc-7 and gcc-8 in 18.04 LTS in LP: #1848319, I'd like to
update the gcc-9 and gcc-10 packages in focal to the final 10.2.0
  release.

   - gcc-10, update to the gcc-10.2.0 release
   - gcc-9, update to the gcc-9 release branch to the time
     of the gcc-10 release.
   - corresponding gcc-cross packages

The package builds are prepared in
- https://launchpad.net/~doko/+archive/ubuntu/toolchain/+packages
+ https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-toolchain-r/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+packages

  [Impact]
Provide an upstream release for GCC 10.2, and an update for GCC 9 to the 9.3
branch

  [Regression Potential]
There is regression potential, however with a test rebuild of the main
portion of the archive no regressions were found.

  [Test Case]
No regressions in the GCC test suite, and no regressions in the test
rebuild of the main component of the archive (all architectures)

As a test, a complete archive rebuild was performed, and no regressions
were found with this new package. The archive rebuild also contained
  updated versions of gcc-9, gcc-10, python3.8, and python3-stdlib-
extensions. The GCC and Python packages should not infer with each
  other.

  [Validation]
Analyze the build logs for regressions.
For the cross builds, just make sure that the packages build using
  the updated sources.

  Summary of the test rebuilds:

https://people.canonical.com/~doko/ftbfs-report/test-rebuild-20200810-focal-focal.html

https://people.canonical.com/~doko/ftbfs-report/test-rebuild-20200810-focal-gcc-focal.html

The first one is a reference build, the second one the test rebuild with
  the updated components.

There are no additional regressions except for pyxdg, which is unrelated
to the GCC update, and which was fixed by a separate SRU. Note that the
riscv64 builds are purely informational, and are not checked for any
  regressions.

[Bug 1839442] Re: desktop icons vanish after drag'n'drop then requires a restart

[Bug 1892085] Re: Wrong cursor theme (Adwaita) for cursors set by CSS, like cursor:wait and cursor:grab

[Bug 1888352] Re: use builtin dump_acpi_tables.py in hookutils

2020-09-04 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Yuan-Chen, or anyone else affected,

Accepted apport into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/2.20.11-0ubuntu27.9 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

I found a fix in python-biopython

  https://salsa.debian.org/med-team/python-
biopython/-/commit/adceea31e1251bf4bddee8b2e9791239fc26ce55

and ported it to ncbi-blast+.

  https://salsa.debian.org/med-team/ncbi-blastplus/-/merge_requests/1

am not uploading immediately, preferring to wait for a review. But if
anyone else (hi, +1-people) wants to, feel free to take it, test it, and
upload it if it works.

[Bug 1862708] Re: tracing doesn't work on focal

2020-09-04 Thread Bobby B
Re: PermissionError: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted:
'/sys/kernel/debug/tracing/../kprobes/blacklist'

This can be fixed by a patch to the bpfcc libs found at:
https://github.com/iovisor/bcc/commit/5558e36bd97ace7bc3efe3a70d0c9d4fc0d34e2a?branch=5558e36bd97ace7bc3efe3a70d0c9d4fc0d34e2a&diff=unified
#diff-978dbb2c496647b4b9907f64485be957R614

Please incorporate into next update of python3-bpfcc.

This is ridiculous. Wonder how many other things this breaks.

[Bug 1834508] Re: I tried to drag an image from chrome browser to files app where it already exists. Instead of asking to replace the image, the app crashed

[Bug 1879980] Re: Fail to boot with LUKS on top of RAID1 if the array is broken/degraded

2020-09-04 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Guilherme, or anyone else affected,

Accepted initramfs-tools into focal-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-
tools/0.136ubuntu6.3 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.
