There were deployed kvm nodes and they are running well, so I inclined
to think the kvm host and its communication with maas are both good.

[Bug 1886854] Re: Race in load-module snap policy check in classic confinement

2020-09-16 Thread James Henstridge
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I now understand the non-
deterministic behaviour you're seeing.

I'm working on a fix for the server side to allow classic snaps to
access these commands. It will require a small change to your Pulse
Audio client library to fix the non-determinism though. I'll share more
information soon.

[Bug 1895912] [NEW] grub2 does not boot kernels built without CONFIG_EFI_STUB

2020-09-16 Thread Michael Zhivich
Public bug reported:

After grub2 update that introduced patch entitled ubuntu-Make-the-linux-
command-in-EFI-grub-always-try.patch, grub2 stopped loading kernels
built without CONFIG_EFI_STUB on EFI machines when secure boot is not
enabled.

Attempting to do so fails with the following set of errors:

error: kernel doesn't support EFI handover.
error: you need to load the kernel first

The issue is that grub_errno is never reset if the handoff to linuxefi
fails because kernel was not built with CONFIG_EFI_STUB. This causes
the code at the end of the function to skip setting "loaded = 1",
causing the 2nd error from the initrd loader.

I'm attaching a small patch that appears to resolve the issue.

** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1893899] Re: update alsa/audio related infomation collection code in apport

2020-09-16 Thread Hui Wang
the pa-info already includes calling the alsa-info.sh, it is ok to
remove the alsa-info.

But it is better to keep the alsa-info, since the log of alsa-info is
cleaner than the log of pa-info, pa-info includes many pulseaudio level
logs. And If we want to exchange the log with upstream developers, we
often send alsa-info.txt since it is possible that other Linux
distributions don't use pulseaudio as the audio server, they only need a
clean alsa-info.txt without pulseaudio logs.

"Lubuntu 20.04 qa-test install; flashing at sddm greeter when mouse at top
panel (pre-login)"

which reads very similar, maybe even same cause (similar pattern at
least in flashing), but occurs different positions on the screen.

This was not the duplicate I'm hunting for...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate an useful symbolic stack trace).
This might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on
your system at the time of the report. Please upgrade your system to the
latest package versions. If you still encounter the crash, please file a
new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

[Bug 1895816] Re: gnome-shell freezing (and gdm restarting) -> xorg crash file found

2020-09-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1886148] Re: failure to boot groovy daily

2020-09-16 Thread Chris Guiver
I downloaded(zsync'd) the [vorlon] requested ISO, but never got time to
test it sorry.

I've zsync'd todays (2020-09-16) ISO and it boots on

hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)
dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt)
dell [optiplex] 780 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd
5000/6000/7350/8350)
dell [optiplex] 990 (i7-2600, 16gb, nvidia geforce gt 6600 gt)

so I suspect it'll boot fine on other boxes too :)
(written with my usual `dus` (mkusb))

(if I test more boxes later, I'll not mention here unless problems, only
logging as QA-tests on iso.qa.ubu)

[Bug 1890223] Re: No Wi-Fi Adapter Found Ubuntu 20.04 after updated Linux kernel to version 5.4.0-42-generic

2020-09-16 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello Eko, my guess is the process that had the debconf database locked
was asking you to enroll a new secure boot key. By killing it rather
than configuring a key, you can't install self-built kernel modules.

I suggest looking at the "Manual Method" section of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UEFI/SecureBoot/DKMS

Thanks

[Bug 1892275] Re: [sync][sru] sos upstream 4.0

2020-09-16 Thread Eric Desrochers
@arif,

lvmdump obfuscation issue as well as other hostname unobfuscated bit
found) has been reported upstream:
https://github.com/sosreport/sos/issues/2236

I personally don't consider this a major blocker for the actual release,
because one still has to validate and check the content before passing
it along to any 3rd party.

sos clean message:

"
Note that this utility provides a best-effort approach to data obfuscation, but
it does not guarantee that such obfuscation provides complete coverage of all
such data in the archive, or that any obfuscation is provided to data that does
not fit the description above.

https://github.com/sosreport/sos/issues/2236

I personally don't consider this a major blocker for the actual release,
because one still has to validate and check the content before passing
it along to any 3rd party.

[Bug 1895898] Re: Thunderbird 78.2.2-ubuntu does not show folders etc.

2020-09-16 Thread Derk Willem te Bokkel
had a quick look at the diff file between ubuntu thinderbird versions
78.2.1 and 78.2.2 .. there is a massive amount of deleted lines .. a lot
to do with twitter accounts .. is this on purpose or has something gone
amiss ..

[Bug 1893899] Re: update alsa/audio related infomation collection code in apport

2020-09-16 Thread Brian Murray
By adding in a call to '/usr/bin/pa-info' in apport/hookutils.py there
ends up being duplicate information in the apport created report as
'/usr/bin/pa-info' calls 'alsa-info' which was already included in the
report. How do you feel about removing the calls to 'alsa-info' and just
using 'pa-info'?

Thanks!

[Bug 1893956] Re: Intel x710 LOMs do not work on Focal

2020-09-16 Thread Jeff Lane
** Description changed:

  [IMPACT]
- The latest Intel based LOMs do not work fully on Focal.
+ The Intel x710-TM4 is one of the latest 10GbE controllers from intel using
the i40e driver. This particular 4 port comes in a 2x2 arrangement: 2x SFP+ and
2x RJ-45. This card is enabled in 5.4 via the inbox version of the i40e driver,
and hwinfo does show both sides of the card but the kernel only sees the two
SFP+ ports and cannot address or use the two copper ports.

These devices have up to 4 ports, but only two seem to work and this has
been seen on at least two different systems using LOMs based on this.

- We've discovered via testing that while the i40e driver in 5.4 fails,
- the version in 5.8 works, so that's the point to start patching.
+ This is currently blocking certification for one of our hardware
+ partners.
+

  [FIX]
This list of Patches enables the latest X710 controller fully:

  * 3df5b9a6a9ec i40e: enable X710 support
  * d80a476f4a12 i40e: Fix LED blinking flow for X710T*L devices

These are all clean cherry picks from 5.5 into 5.4

My tree with these can be found here:

https://code.launchpad.net/~bladernr/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/focal/+ref/1893956-update-i40e-intel-lom

  [TESTCASE]

i40e should load successfully, all ports on Carlsville x710 LOM should
  be visible and configurable.

Test kernels have been verified by the vendor reporting the issue that
all network ports on the LOM are accessible and pass traffic at expected
  speeds.

  [REGRESSION RISK]
Should be pretty low. This is a small patch set to a single driver that only
enables a newer chipset.

[Bug 1895202] Re: touchpad suddenly not detected, appearing as PS/2 mouse in devices

2020-09-16 Thread Russ McGill
Same issue. Lenovo Thinkpad X1. Looks like it started with kernel version
5.4.0-45 and remains in 5.4.0-47. With 5.4.0-42 trackpad is listed as

↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad

in xinput, with 5.4.0-45 and 5.4.0-47 it shows as

 ↳ Synaptics TM3418-002

according to Xorg.0.log same driver is loaded in 5.4.0-{42,45,47}

LoadModule: "synaptics"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/synaptics_drv.so

but neither the touchpad, the touchpad buttons, nor the trackpoint work.
But "synclient" sees the trackpad and prints out all the properties.

[Bug 1879980] Re: Fail to boot with LUKS on top of RAID1 if the array is broken/degraded

2020-09-16 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
After the cryptsetup FTBFS investigation (on LP #1891473), coincidentally a
security fix was released for such package, that included a fix for the FTBFS.
So, this is a "rebase" on top of the latest version for Focal/Groovy - Bionic
wasn't affected, but I'm re-uploading its debdiff nevertheless.
Thanks,

Guilherme

[Bug 1895896] [NEW] HP Officejet Pro 6830 can not be connected via USB

2020-09-16 Thread Josy
Public bug reported:

After updating to Ubuntu 20.04. I was unable to print via my HP
Officejet Pro 6830 printer via WLAN and via USB.

I managed to get the printer running via WLAN by going to CUPS (In
Browser: http://localhost:631), deleting the stalled printer jobs and
deleting the printers via cups.

Afterwards I added the printer connected via WLAN using the command-line tool
hp-setup. This was successfull.
However, when adding the same printer with hp-setup connected via USB, the
connection failed with the error message "Unable to communicate with the
device. Please check the device and try again.".
The device is connected to my PC via WLAN and USB. There is no problem.

I had expected that the usb printer driver for my hp Officejet Pro 6830
got installed and afterwards successfull printing is possible.

[Bug 1883111] Re: [needs-packaging] raspberrypi-userland

2020-09-16 Thread andrum99
Armhf binaries for the closed-source vcdbg and edidparser are available
with a compatible license in the upstream package. There are currently
no arm64 versions of these binaries.

(They are closed source per Broadcom, the original author).
