[Bug 684982]

2020-09-29 Thread Ericrboidi
I know this issue was for Linux, but it'd be nice if there was support
for this in Windows - restoring windows on virtual desktops just does
not work at all. I sadly don't know how the codebase is structured at
all else I'd try to have a crack at it :/

[Bug 1551949]

2020-09-29 Thread Jonathan Watt
I got a question on chat about using SkiaPDF instead of cairo for this
and I might as well add what info I have here.

SkiaPDF does indeed [have functionality to
annotate](https://github.com/google/skia/blob/c0bd9f9fe533a7b8644392240c1250195aaee537/include/core/SkAnnotation.h)
the PDFs in generates. However, although we use Skia, we [only made an
experimental start on integrating and using
SkiaPDF](https://mzl.la/3iZiU7v) as a printing backend. Finishing that
off is probably still a fair amount of work. For anyone looking into
fixing this bug the expedient way forward is most likely to try porting
the functionality from a newer version of cairo to our old, in-tree
version, as suggested by Jeff in comment 20.

[Bug 1896637] Re: system booting is too slow. Application like chrome, spotify, Libre Office, etc open too slow.

2020-09-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks.

I can't see anything obvious in that log. This makes me think something
is running fundamentally too slow; either the CPU or the disk.

To check the disk speed please run a benchmark in the 'Disks' app,
and/or use:

  sudo hdparm -t /dev/sda

and tell us the results.

The CPU sounds like it might be restricted by thermald. Please try
removing the file:

  /etc/thermald/thermal-conf.xml

because it sounds like there's a problem in that file.

could see the hdmi-stereo from the configuration combo list and audio
worked well. Without this SRU, users will see the empty configuration
combo list and need users manually select profile.

[Bug 1871268] Re: Installation fails with Could not configure 'libc6:i386'. , E:Could not perform immediate configuration on 'libgcc-s1:i386'

2020-09-29 Thread Peter Freeman
I am just installing the daily build from 2020-09-28 of Ubuntu 20.10
(Groovy Gorilla). I received this error right at the end of
installation. It screwed up my nvidia settings and I had to manually
re-install the nvidia drivers. Everything appears to be working fine
now, though I haven't stress-tested the new system yet.

[Bug 1897836] [NEW] package ubuntu-keyring 2012.05.19.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2020-09-29 Thread Kevin-Acer
Public bug reported:

- Ubuntu 16.04
- ubuntu-keyring installed ver. 2012.05.19.1 (which is also the latest version)
- I had previously had issues with an expired key from the OSMC installer, so I
removed it, and after "sudo apt-get update" I've had no issues with mentioning
that expired key. This issue with ubuntu-keyring now came up after the command
"sudo apt-get upgrade" and looks like it could be related to that initial OSMC
key issue.

2020-09-29 Thread Vladimir Yerilov
Hi, I had no intention to use sssd, it was pulled and installed during the
update. I am sure I had no sssd installed on focal as I am browsing now through
the image of my root partition created before the update was started.
Yes, I still have update logs.

Mounting/Browsing drives defined using the default method (UUID) in fstab, does
*not* work using a link to the device created with "Create new > Link to > Hard
disk device" right click menu on the KDE desktop root window. LABELs doesn't
work either. It has to be done using /dev nodes.
This can be done in "System settings -> Advanced -> Disk and filesystems", but
that is only a workaround, not a solution.

Following are several lines of output from powertop, while doing
effectively nothing (despite staring at the output of powertop or
writing this bugreport) with my computer:

The program 'flush-8:0' is writing to file 'kde-icon-cache.index' on /dev/sda1.
This prevents the disk from going to powersave mode.

The program 'plasma-desktop' is writing to file 'kde-icon-cache.lock.lN2736' on
/dev/sda1.
This prevents the disk from going to powersave mode.

The program 'plasma-desktop' is writing to file 'kde-icon-cache.lock.QP2736' on

This prevents the disk from going to powersave mode.

The program 'konqueror' is writing to file 'kde-icon-cache.lock.Th3204' on
/dev/sda1.
This prevents the disk from going to powersave mode.

Running powertop for a longer time will result in lots of such messages.
To me it seems not immediately necessary to frequently write to such
cache files, and create lock files, if the icon theme does (almost)
never change.

It's possible to just add a flag to stop that I suppose, but probably
easier at this point to not load icons unnecessarily when idle (although
I don't know that is actually what's going on!)

There is a bug in qpixmapcache (or qpc is used with a different scope).
qpc evicts entries from the cache after some time, even if the items are
in use, when the set of items is stable (e.g., you only use the same 3
pixmaps all the time). I am currently working on a new implementation
for qpc which does not show this behaviour.

to noatime in mount) and then have KSharedDataCache::Private not update
use counts if PowerDevil says we're on "powersave".

[Bug 1897741] Re: hang after using util badblocks

2020-09-29 Thread Theodore Ts'o
If the computer is hanging as you describe, this is a kernel bug,
possibly exacerbated by a hardware bug.  It isn't a userspace bug;
e2fsprogs is just reading from the block device. If that is causing the
computer hang, it's by definition not a userspace bug.

So this needs to be a kernel investigation; can it be reliably
reproduced? What kernel version is it? What is the hardware ---
especially what kind of storage device, and how is it connected to the
computer? If you hook up a serial console, are there any interesting
kernel messages, including potentially device driver messages indicating
some kind of hardware issue (e.g., media errors, etc.)

In any case, this needs to be redirected to the kernel, and if you have
an LTS support contract, I'd suggest contacting Canonical's enterprise
support to work the kernel issue.

[Bug 1894593] Re: Fractional scaling switch doesn't work in Wayland sessions

2020-09-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It seems to work in Xorg sessions at least.

An upstream bug report is not appropriate because the switch does not
exist upstream. A simple workaround is to toggle the setting manually by
running:

gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor-
framebuffer']"

[Bug 1897830] [NEW] 20.04.1 goes fully blank (screens) after replugging 2nd monitor

2020-09-29 Thread Daniel LaSalle
Public bug reported:

Using 20.04.1-latest and using 2x monitors, 1x using DVI and 1x using
HDMI, if I unplug the HDMI one while the system is running, displays
will fallback to 1 screen and that is good.

But while this system is still running, if/when I replug that same 2nd
screen that I took out and using the same HDMI port both screens turn
blank and system goes into lala land requiring a manual/hard restart is
required to fix this.

While the screens are blank, the system is not hung it simply lost it's
displays.

I'm not sure if this is a driver upgrade bug of some sort in nvidia-*,

So I'll leave it Incomplete pending more reports of the same issue. If
there are none in 60 days then it will close automatically.

[Bug 1871306] Re: No sound from internal card chtmax98090 - missing UCM2 files in alsa-ucm-conf 1.2.2, available in alsa-ucm-conf 1.2.3

2020-09-29 Thread Hui Wang
@Gabriele,

It will also upgrade the pulseaudio, but that pulseaudio will not bring
any impact on your machine.

Did you experience the same crackling and low volume with the alsa-ucm-
conf 1.2.3 from Debian? If Debian version doesn't have this problem,
Could you diff my testing version with Debian version?

I didn't cherrypick/backport (0a8dd118f7b56372e3f0d6037fe91e4e8108f508 ucm2:
use Include (Syntax 3)), since it will introduce huge changes on many many
platforms and v1.2.3 doesn't have this commit yet. Maybe this commit could fix
your problem (In theory, it will not fix your problem).

[Bug 1802005] Re: socket is inaccessible for libvirt-dbus

2020-09-29 Thread Chris Routh
Mark,

Looks like you're correct, removing libvirt-qemu from the libvirt group
seems to allow things to work. I also removed the policy from
/etc/dbus-1/system.d/ and things kept working after a reboot. Still
testing if anything about the system is not working, but seems just
adding libvirtdbus to the libvirt group is enough to resolve the access
issue.

My apologies. I spent half a day trying to fix this and got sloppy about
cleaning up things that didn't change behaviour.

[Bug 1897826] [NEW] Button for changing input type outside of textfield does not work

2020-09-29 Thread DarkTrick
Public bug reported:

Reproduce
==
1) Open a File manager
2) Press the button for changing the input language ( on Japanese keyboards
that's the `半角・全角・漢字` button below `ESC`.
3)
Expected: Input language changes
Actual: Input language does not change

Workaround
==
- Click inside a random text field
- Press the button for changing input language

Why is this important?
==
When navigating around the system, it's sometimes necessary to switch to
English input without having a text field.

Consider this example
- Image you have an English file structure
- Set the input language to Japanese
- Open a file manager
- Search for a folder/file by starting to type
- You'll get gibberish because you're trying to write English with Japanese
input. The file selection cursor might even jump to random position according
to your input.
- Press `Esc` to try again in English.
- Press The language changing button
- Start typing again.
- You get gibberish again, because outside of the search field the
language-changing button press was ignored.

Sorry, I just realized, I'm not talking about "language input", but

[Bug 1874275] Re: focal package doesn't contain executables, only manpages

2020-09-29 Thread Mathew Hodson
https://salsa.debian.org/debian/debhelper/-/commit/31aebcf978dde4791887e32d00487bc28d46b8fa

python_distutils.pm isn't supported, so there isn't anything to fix in
debhelper.

"Deprecate the python-distutils build system
and mark it as removed in compat 12. Users are recommeded to
migrate to the third-party build system called "pybuild". This
deprecation implies that python3 (among other) will not be
supported in the python-distutils build system."

** No longer affects: debhelper (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1897823] [NEW] FTBFS due to deprecated sigignore()

2020-09-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

The upstream patch to fix the FTBFS is:

https://github.com/memcached/memcached/commit/8e5148ca5c32fafca948e43c2e966db28a50a5f4

It replaces the sigignore() call with equivalent signal() calls.

I have tested with bolt (0.8-4ubuntu1) and can confirm that on my system the
'Probing...' messages are no longer being spewed, and the notification icon no
longer pops up every couple of seconds. It seems resolved to me.
