An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

 This was caused by:
 * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
This is most likely a transient problem,
please try again later.
If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command
'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If you want to
investigate this yourself the log files in '/var/log/dist-upgrade' will contain
details about the upgrade. Specifically, look at 'main.log' and 'apt.log'.

[Bug 1906096] [NEW] Pressing Shift + 9 should give opening parentheses and Pressing Shift + 0 should give closing parentheses.

2020-11-27 Thread Compiler
Public bug reported:

That's how it should respond. That's how it respond in Windows and other
OS.

Pressing Shift + 1 gives !
Pressing Shift + 2 gives @
... and so on. Everything works fine until when we reach the 9
and 0 key.

Pressing Shift + 9, it gives 9 instead of (
and
Pressing Shift + 0, it gives 0 instead of )

This is a globally recognized "keyboard pattern". This fails if u select Nepali
Keyboard.
I don't know why. It makes things harder for us to write opening and closing
parenthesis unless we use Windows OS.

Please fix this.

Did some research and it seems this issue is related with echoping using
instructions that are not working under amd64 architecture. A previous
workaround was to install the i386 version of the package which is not
possible anymore.

[Bug 1906091] [NEW] libx264-148 libx264-152 conflict segmentation fault SIGSEGV

2020-11-27 Thread Dmitry
Public bug reported:

In my app I have segfault due to conflict of libx264-148 vs libx264-152.
I use gstreamer and libopencv_videoio in my project.
System is Ubuntu 18.04.5

The problem is that versions of libx264 get mixed due to implicit
linking.

Libraries are linked like this:
gstreamer -> x264enc -> libx264-152
libopencv_videoio -> libavcodec-ffmpeg.so.56 -> libx264-148

Both opencv-based code and gstreamer-based code works well if used
separately.

At the top of backtrace I see:
Thread 13 (Thread 0x7f28e2066700 (LWP 26012)):
#0  0x7f290181c853 in x264_add8x8_idct_avx2.skip_prologue () at

#3  0x7f2927b0143b in x264_encoder_headers () at
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libx264.so.148

If I use objdump I can find x264_add8x8_idct_avx2.skip_prologue in both
libx264-148 and libx264-152

Here is example code which fails (C++ needed):

int main (int argc, char *argv[])
{
  App *app = _app;
  GError *error = NULL;
  GstBus *bus;
  GstCaps *caps;

  gst_init (, );

  auto cap = cv::VideoCapture("videoplayback.mp4");
  cv::Mat f;
  cap.read(f);
  cv::imshow("f", f);

  GST_DEBUG_CATEGORY_INIT (appsrc_pipeline_debug, "appsrc-pipeline", 0,
  "appsrc pipeline example");

  app->loop = g_main_loop_new (NULL, TRUE);
  app->timer = g_timer_new();

  app->pipeline = gst_parse_launch(R"(filesrc location=videoplayback.mp4

playlist-root=".")", NULL);

  g_assert (app->pipeline);

  bus = gst_pipeline_get_bus (GST_PIPELINE (app->pipeline));
  g_assert(bus);

  gst_bus_add_watch (bus, (GstBusFunc) bus_message, app);

  caps = gst_caps_new_simple ("video/x-raw-rgb",
"bpp",G_TYPE_INT,8,
"depth",G_TYPE_INT,8,
 "width", G_TYPE_INT, 640,
 "height", G_TYPE_INT, 480,
 NULL);
  gst_element_set_state (app->pipeline, GST_STATE_PLAYING);

  g_main_loop_run (app->loop);

  GST_DEBUG ("stopping");

  gst_element_set_state (app->pipeline, GST_STATE_NULL);

  gst_object_unref (bus);
  g_main_loop_unref (app->loop);

  return 0;
}

How can I solve this? PLease help!

[Bug 1905947] Re: lubuntu hirsute: display configuration doesn't survive logout/reboot

2020-11-27 Thread Chris Guiver
Lubuntu hirsute daily QA-test on
- dell [optiplex] 780 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd
5000/6000/7350/8350)

this box shares displays with prior comment (d755-8) so
landscape+portrait, though opposite order due cables

saved & applied monitor.settings

logout & login again.
Monitor.settings did NOT survive logout & login here...

On same box I booted Lubuntu focal daily (yesterdays)
repeating the same identical test. Differences here are only the left-right
appear differently, so I swap left+right, then right is made portrait-left.

On focal daily, the monitor.settings survive logout in the live session,
as they instantly appear on login again.

** Description changed:

- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
+ - hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
+ + dell [optiplex] 780 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd
5000/6000/7350/8350)
+ + dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400
pro/xt)

  ** background

  QA-test install, login to a ~recent hirsute install (untouched) to
  verify nothing has changed, screens aren't in correct orientation?? yet
  command history from my validation post-install is present (I always
  adjust displays post-install as part of confirmation install is good).
  No problem, I'll adjust monitor settings again, logout and log back in
  as a test (I've noted this behavior before recently, but just ignored it
  as it gets erased next qa-test)
-

  ** issue & re-creation steps

  - adjust displays to match setup. My displays are one above the other. The
default-right monitor gets moved to above-the-other. APPLY and SAVE settings.
  - logout
  - login again

  ** expected result

  I expect the screens return to the setup I applied & saved

  ** actual result

  Monitor settings have returned to the original left-right as they were
  before changing setting, or post install. Same occurs after a reboot

+
+ ** another test strategy
+
+ - using a Lubuntu live system, boot & adjust monitor.settings
+ - logout
+ - login again
+
+ On focal daily (20.04.2) the changed settings survive logout/login, on
+ current hirsute they do not; just as installed systems.

  ** more notes

  this could be related to the above-below orientation of a number of my
  boxes; so won't be experienced by many users. My guess I've been noting
  this for about a week (very subjective), including on my primary box
  (maybe 3 logins; it's not occurring on suspends which I use most
  nights). On my primary box, I experienced a crashed session (forced
  logout) and was willing to blame it as a consequence of the crashed
  session; this is a pristine install.

  (I believe i've seen it on landscape+portrait, but I'll have to confirm
  that via re-test, (either one of d780 or d755-8, but as I couldn't re-
  create on other box I ignored it. I've filed now as this is now 3 sets-
  of-displays involved meaning at least 3 boxes; each of my displays are
  used by multiple boxes)

Reply #10 and #11:

I found only power-off/power-on is not enough to make the kernel reload
the BT firmware on some desktop machines or AIO machines, need to power
off, wait for a couple of minutes, power on. For laptop machines, looks
like power-off/power-on could make the kernel reload the BT firmware.

[Bug 1906079] [NEW] Both ethernet and wifi not working after upgrade from ubuntu 18 to 20

2020-11-27 Thread Perzan
Public bug reported:

I have a problem where I cannot use wifi or ethernet. I was going to try
this answer: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/416180/ubuntu-no-
wifi-adapter-found/423250#423250

But I can't get usb tethering to work, so I made a post here:
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/621883/cannot-use-usb-
tethering-to-solve-problem

I recently installed Ubuntu 20.04 and this started happening.
Not exactly sure which package is responsible here.
I am making this bug report on the same pc except I am using an ubuntu
installation thumbdrive. The live usb seems to recognize ethernet right away,
but the one installed on my ssd doesn't.

[Bug 1900362] Re: Kernel turns off USB-devices

2020-11-27 Thread 3vi1
I started noticing this today after a reboot (kernel 5.8.0-25
hirsute/dev repos). Both my keyboard and mouse have begun
autosuspending after only a few seconds on non-use. Echoing 'on' to the
appropriate /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb#/#-#/power/control path gets them
working again.

This is a desktop with no laptop tools / power management packages
installed. Looks like udev is being too optimistic about what it should
shut down.

Re: [Bug 1898656] Re: Firefox not playing YouTube videos in Virtualbox on Xubuntu

2020-11-27 Thread BertN45
Have tried the development edition and had the same problem.
I did not report the problem to bugzilla, because after I tried to
access bugzilla, Github threatened to withdraw my access next month for
some vague reasons, unless I changed my password.

[Bug 1898786] Re: bcache: Issues with large IO wait in bch_mca_scan() when shrinker is enabled

2020-11-27 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Hi Benjamin,

No worries about being busy.

Now, the kernel is scheduled to be released early next week, around the
30th of November. I think at this stage it is best to wait it out and
install the kernel once it reaches -updates.

That way you will have a fixed kernel that is supported by livepatch,
and you don't have to justify a reboot twice.

I did some regression testing in my comments above, and everything looks
okay. These patches also worked great in your test kernel. We have done
the best can to verify the kernel in the time given, so don't worry
about testing at this stage.

I'll let you know once the kernel has reached -updates, likely Monday or
Tuesday next week.

Thanks,
Matthew

[Bug 1853277] Re: Lenovo ThinkBook 14-IML Touchpad not showing up in /proc/bus/input/devices

2020-11-27 Thread Kelsey Margarete Skunberg
Verification for Focal is needed on this bug. Would someone who has
tested the fix with focal please complete that? Thank you!

This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves
the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the
results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-
focal' to 'verification-done-focal'. If the problem still exists, change
the tag 'verification-needed-focal' to 'verification-failed-focal'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will
be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

[Bug 1903420] Re: Qemu clients lose Internet access on upgrade to Groovy Gorilla

2020-11-27 Thread Ted
To work around this, I used `update-alternatives` to change iptables and
ip6tables from iptables-nft to iptables-legacy. At least things function
now. (I'm using docker.io and putting RKE's Kubernetes on top of it).

It appears that workaround allows the networking to properly work, and
also implies that Docker is manipulating the tables using some other
method than /usr/sbin/iptables (confirmed in the moby ticket below).

I tried starting dockerd with iptables=false, but Kubernetes really
needs thorough networking to function.

[Bug 1901344] Re: [SRU] Spotify album icon shows optimal CD disk instead of album/cover image

2020-11-27 Thread Joshua Peisach
** Description changed:

  The Spotify Album Icon in the Sound Applet should show the Album/Song
  cover of the Spotify song. Instead it shows the default CD icon.

  According to upstream, the Spotify link has changed. A fix for this (and
  in the cinnamon-screensaver) is available.

  An SRU for BOTH PACKAGES, cinnamon, and cinnamon-screensaver in Focal

[Bug 1532264] Re: fprintd allows unauthorized root access

2020-11-27 Thread Steve Sether
Thanks for explaining the larger problem here. It's a bit frustrating
that this bug has existed for more than 9 years, (it seems the original
fix was put in in 2011), but it's taken this long to finally swat it.

Sounds like we're finally on the right path to getting this fixed.
Thanks again.

** Tags added: apport-collected bionic uec-images

** Description changed:

  This is kinda complicated but i try my best to explain it as much as i
  can.

  First of all i found out that in bionic beaver cloud image i was able to have
248 cpus without any issues.
  Then i've taken a look into focal, but there i was only able to get up up to
64 cpus.

  Then i've tryed to figure out what was wrong. Debian, wasnt able to handle
this with a 4.19 kernel.
  Bionic beaver had 4.18 so i tried to upgrade to a 4.19 with success but only
with 64 cpus.

  So i think the problem maybe exist since 4.19.

  My setup. Openstack Hypervisor with ubuntu 18.04
  KVM/Qemu with a vm clean bionic works fine, till i upgrade to a kernel > 4.18.
  Every 5.* version seems to be affected as well.

  Debian buster has this issue and fedora (Both in latest versions with
  kernel above 4.18)

  Already started debugging with TJ- at irc.

  Paste links with debugging informations
  /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/topology/ http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/5txHGPHpBT/
  and
  virsh dumpxml of the VM https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/sPWHVMn5FX/

  CPU on the Hypervisor (works fine):
  https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/KRNMSThT92/

  Hope this helps to dig down the bug.

[Bug 1905790] Re: Recompile SSSD in 20.04 using OpenSSL (instead of NSS) support

2020-11-27 Thread Robie Basak
> While the change may involve quite different code paths when it comes
to security features, I think we trust OpenSSL enough to be an
acceptable crypto backend. And behavior should not change.

Are you sure about this? TLS has a wide variety of protocol options and
the supported vs. "available" cryptosystem matrix is complex. Won't
these all change if the underlying implementation changes?

[Bug 1876157] Re: Memtest86+ in Ubuntu 20.04 doesn't work, switch to Coreboot branch or package new release v5.31b is available since 12/04/2020

2020-11-27 Thread Agent24
I have a similar problem.

I have Ubuntu Studio 20.04 installed.
The included Memtest86+ 5.01 freezes at 55% on test #2 every single time.

Memtest86+ 4.20 from an Ubuntu 14.04 DVD passes without error.
Memtest86+ 5.31b downloaded and burned to a CD-RW passes without error.

I have also encountered the issue where Memtest86+ 5.01 freezes on many
machines with SMP activated. I do not trust v5.01 to give reliable
results any more.

[Bug 1905986] Re: Don't provide transitional package for python3-google-compute-engine, add Breaks: in google-guest-agent instead

2020-11-27 Thread Balint Reczey
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

   * gce-compute-image-packages has been split to multiple source packages and
google-guest-agent (written in Go) replaced the services originally written in
Python. The upgrade to gce-compute-image-packages compatible with
google-guest-agent replaced the Python modules (python3-google-compute-engine)

local software relying on those modules.

transitional package, but adding Breaks: to google-guest-agent to force the
removal of it. Since removals are not performed automatically by apt-get
upgrade (not unattended-upgrades) the administrator needs to approve removal.

  [Test Case]

   * Set up a system with the unfixed version of the packages, including
python3-google-compute-engine installed.
   * Upgrade to the new set of packages:
     apt-get upgrade
   * Observe that the gce-compute-image-packages is kept back
   * Upgrade gce-compute-image-package manually:
     apt install gce-compute-image-package
   * This should succeed, removing python3-google-compute-engine

[Bug 1906064] [NEW] RTL8812AE stops using 5 Ghz due to wpa_supplicant 4 way key_mgmt_offload

2020-11-27 Thread jan
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS (GNU/Linux 5.4.0-53-generic x86_64)

RTL8812AE stops using 5 Ghz Wifi after a few days.
The 2.4 Ghz wifi (that was not used, but present in these days) kept working.

During reconnection, the 4-way Wifi authentication failed every time.

Usually, power down and up helps, but this did not give me additional
information

I tried following, to no avail
1) stopping / restarting wifi from networkmanager
2)removing drivers, and reinstalling
sudo rmmod  rtl8821ae btcoexist rtl_pci rtlwifi  mac80211 cfg80211 libarc4
sudo modprobe rtl8821ae
3) restart wpa_supplicant
sudo systemctl restart wpa_supplicant.service
4) restart networkmanager
sudo service NetworkManager restart

What fixed the problem was disabling key_mgmt_offload

sudo wpa_cli
set key_mgmt_offload 0

So apparently, the WiFi board froze into a state where the 4-way Wifi
authentication could not be handled on the board itself anymore

** Affects: wpasupplicant (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Package changed: gnome-flashback (Ubuntu) => wpasupplicant (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1905322] Re: LibreOffice crashes under load.

2020-11-27 Thread KGIII
Alright, open all the LibreOffice apps one by one - do it in order.

When you open Impress, Math and Writer do NOT open.

In Impress, select a template and click Okay. Everything LibreOffice
related crashes and it gives a dialog about restoring files.

I installed ksystemlog (just to make it easier) and triggered the crash
multiple times. Nothing shows up in the error logs, though you can
clearly see it in the video provided in #7
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1905322/comments/7).

That happens time and time again - every time. It happens in a VM on
different hardware. It happens in a live USB environment. It happens in
today's Hirsute build.

[Bug 1906061] [NEW] vim package links against libcanberra

2020-11-27 Thread lordaro
Public bug reported:

vim 8.1 and newer has decided to link against libcanberra for "sound
support", which pulls in several other reasonably unnecessary packages
(libasound2, libvorbis to name a couple) for server environments.

Presumably the --disable-canberra flag should be applied on configure.

Focal+, as far as I can tell.

[Bug 1532264] Re: fprintd allows unauthorized root access

2020-11-27 Thread Treviño
As you can see reading this old bug, the polkit rule fix is known, and
I've been working upstream to address this.

However as you can see [1] that simple change was not enough.
In fact as you can read in this documentation [2] the polkit method that we
call to check if an user is allowed to run a command, is run synchronously and
this may lead fprintd to hang and stop doing other operations (that can be both
in the driver or for other requests coming by other users).

So, while the workaround can be acceptable in a single-user and single-
request scenario, it could end up having problems in case the OS tries
to do other requests to the fingerprint daemon while it's blocked.

A situation could be that if you start the enrollment process and for
some reason you don't complete within the auto-screen-lock time, then
you may end up in freezing your system.

Or in any other case... Fprintd is meant to be called by multiple
applications other than the OS (even if right now very few use it), but
ideally a Browser or an application may request you to use your
fingerprint, and that could happen while the daemon is hanging, causing
an unexpected behavior.

Said that, as you can see the fix is merged and released in latest
fprintd version that I'm currently packaging and soon backporting to
20.04, so even if with some delay we're handling this. Properly,
finally.

[Bug 1906059] [NEW] Gnome calendar mishandles timezone during moving across calendars

2020-11-27 Thread Bartłomiej Żogała
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Make calendar entry in gnome-calendar in Personal(not online) calendar.
To be precise I've imported calendar entry via ICS file via Evolution but the
file didn't contain any time zone related entry.
2. Calendar was properly introduced showing me locally proper time of event, in
line with my local timezone.
3. Open calendar entry by double click, change on upper bar name of calendar
from personal to one of Google Calendars .
4. Time of event is shifted

In my case time of the shift is -1 hour . This corresponds my current
timezone GMT+1 so it seems item is passed without timezone resulting in
UTC time presented as local. Additionally when I shift time of event
during editing by one minute then there is no hour shift so it seems
error is generated exactly in this dialog box but only for imported
entries - if I create new one manually then it works properly. So for
reproducing, this is content of the ICS file with personal details
scraped out:

Same problem on fresh Ubuntu 20.04. It seems the dbus is a problem.
Launching applications wth the command: dbus-launch vls, starts apps
intermediately.
