Re: [Bug 1899882] Re: hdmi monitor on

2020-12-28 Thread John Dunlap
It's pretty jerky. Then after a number of cycles of blinking screen on the
laptop and the dock seemingly being restarted (the Ethernet kept going off
and on) the external screen came to life and now the system seems to be
operating normally. I did fiddle with the "Display" GUI a bit before it
stopped being jerky. Attached is the dmesg. -- John

[Bug 1626098] Re: Wrong screen capturing and flickering when using gnome-screenshot or kazam on Dell XPS 13 9350

2020-12-28 Thread chovy
I have the exact same problem with kazam and gnome on arch. I just
switched from wayland to xorg but it jumps all over the place in the
resulting video like i'm alt-tabbing constantly.

[Bug 1899882] Re: hdmi monitor on

2020-12-28 Thread koba
@John, if you're free, Would you please help to try drm-tip?
You cound just download the files with "generic" and linux_header_***_all.deb
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-tip/2020-12-28/

And enable drm.debug=0x11e log_buf_len=16M in grub.

If the issue still exist, please upload the dmesg

Re: [Bug 1899882] Re: hdmi monitor on

2020-12-28 Thread John Dunlap
Thanks. I got -4007-oem to run. At boot it presented correctly with a
login box on the external screen and the laptop screen available. However
when I logged in both screens went blank for a bit after which only the
laptop screen was alive but it wasn't the primary so just blank. Right
clicking allowed me to get the "Display" GUI and fiddle around. After
poking buttons a bit I could get the external screen to come alive but it
was pretty mixed up so I have reverted to the -1008-oem. I am using xfce
rather than gnome. Regards, John

This issue can be found on 5.8.0-30.32~20.04.1 with node entei as well, and
5.8.0-25.26~20.04.1
 with node modoc.

But not 5.8.0-22.23~20.04.1 on modoc (in this kernel this test hang with
test [60] event trigger - test inter-event histogram trigger onmatch
action )

Re: [Bug 1899882] Re: hdmi monitor on

2020-12-28 Thread John Dunlap
Got all five .deb files then used this command:
sudo apt install ./*.deb
But, when choosing the -4007-oem kernel it says the signature is wrong and
quits.
The -1008-oem kernel still doesn't start the external display and the dock
doesn't run right away. (Ethernet doesn't work).
Back to 5.6.0-1036-oem.

Hi Koba,

I got these warnings during apt install linux-image-oem-20.04-edge:
W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/i915/tgl_huc_7.5.0.bin for
module i915
W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/i915/tgl_huc_7.5.0.bin for

dunlap@lt9:~/Desktop$ uname -a
Linux lt9 5.10.0-1008-oem #9-Ubuntu SMP Tue Dec 15 14:22:38 UTC 2020 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
dunlap@lt9:~/Desktop$

With 5.10.0-1008-oem the external monitor does not turn on when first
booted. It does turn on with 5.6.0-1036-oem but not in the configuration
I had previously chosen.

By fiddling with the "Display" GUI from the "Settings" menu I can finally
get it turned on but that state is not maintained on boot.

Also, the external display is off for perhaps 30 to 60 s after booting
during which time the dock seems to be off because I finally get a notice
that the Ethernet connection comes on.

The dock seems to be turned off and then on during some of my interactions
with the "Display" GUI. All quite slowly.
I will go back to 5.6.0-1036-oem for now.

Thanks for your help. Regards, John

[Bug 1891721] Re: grub-multi-install attempts to mount a non-existing device after migrating to another system

2020-12-28 Thread Dawid Wróbel
Interestingly, this issue keeps coming back. Seems that each consecutive
update of grub-efi is suffering from it. Each time it happens, the same
apt purge helps.

[Bug 1906155] Re: USB Passthrough Fails on Start, Needs domain Reset

2020-12-28 Thread Russell Morris
FYI, several updates here - for other reasons, but ... BIOS, Linux
(Ubuntu), qemu (to master) => now it works on boot. Arrgh! I only say
that because I can't duplicate it any more, with all these updates.
That's good overall. LOL!

Thanks!

hirsute test install on

prior to logout, and as part of my usual shakedown of system, I adjust
monitor.settings to match my setup (landscape + portrait.left) which is
applied & saved.

on logout & login again, screen setup was back to defaults...
not reported in QA-test as it's not part of the install test.

Both are in same time zone, internet the same on each, and my main box

hasn't changed).

Max 5 mins between each install (time required to close up QA-test on

[Bug 1909506] [NEW] lubuntu hirsute daily install failed (two issues)

2020-12-28 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

in exploration of EFI issue & theory.. a series of repeated installs was
performed.

this one failed I believe b/c of random circumstances (mirror sync or
packages changing on mirror) thus it's of no value & just bad luck...
HOWEVER

the calamares error messages didn't fit on display, thus no accept
buttons and machine became stopped until ENTER was pressed (using the
button that was off-screen and un-clickable with mouse). photos were
taken, and I'll amend this report shortly with more detail

[Bug 1909505] [NEW] MT940 import does not work

2020-12-28 Thread Willem Voogd
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 20.04.1 LTS the MT940 import fails to open the import
dialog. It fails silently.

- Ubuntu 20.04.1
- GnuCash 1:3.8b-1ubuntu1

File->Import->MT940
- Dialog opens
- I can select a downloaded .940 file

Expected behaviour: Import Matcher window opens

Experienced behaviour: File dialog just closes

I tried to run with --extra CLI option for extra info, but it fails
silently.

Thanks in advance for your efforts.

Cheers,

Willem Voogd

[Bug 1907870] Re: Intel UHD Graphics: external monitor detected but black screen (has a preferred mode but no current mode set)

2020-12-28 Thread Juan Manuel Diaz
Hi! I have updates on this: ¡IT WAS A CABLE PROBLEM!

Same cable and same monitor that works OK with my HP OMEN 15 doesn't
work with my HP 440 G7... I tried with a different cable (a shorter one)
and everything looks normal.

Please, mark this as closed.

Thanks everyone for the help,

HAPPY 2021.

[Bug 1838151] Re: Poor quality audio with modern Bluetooth headsets in HSP/HFP. Missing wide band speech support (Bluetooth A2DP codecs).

2020-12-28 Thread Richard Merren
I installed pulseaudio-modules-bt and it does give some new options for
sound output and possibly better sound, but microphone sound quality was
still iffy. Recorded sound on Audacity seemed better and was slightly
louder (according to the DB meter), but a test call on Microsoft Teams
was still muffled and unintelligible.

I have ordered a Avantree DG80 dongle (which makes the bluetooth
connection externally and appears to linux as usb audio) and will
hopefully be able to continue working with that, but I would love to see
this problem resolved in pulseaudio.

For the record, I am using a Sony WH-1000XM4 headset on PopOS 20.10
running on a System76 Darter Pro.

** Description changed:

There are reproduce-able WiFi aborts with 20.04.1 LTS since update to

Behaviour: nm-applet shows a window to enter the WLAN key that is pre-
filled. Hitting the "Connect" button reconnects the WiFi network for a
  small period.

The error occurs sometimes very often (e.g. 10 times/minute) or seldom
(only one per day). You can see it in /var/log/syslog at the entry

[Bug 1909502] [NEW] FUSE fails to unmount without privilege in kernel v5.9+

2020-12-28 Thread Sargun
Public bug reported:

In kernel v5.9+ there was a refactor to the unmount code path that
results in libfuse no longer being able to detect UMOUNT_NOFOLLOW. This
resulted in an alternate code path that relied on being able to call
unshare and some other work.

2020-12-28 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1909494/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1909499] [NEW] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: No beacon heard and the time event is over already...

2020-12-28 Thread Lyubomir
Public bug reported:

I see this error frequently inside logs: iwlwifi :03:00.0: No beacon
heard and the time event is over already...

Also, the internet doesn't seem stable, from time to time it disconnects
and reconnects on its own, and other times it disconnects and wants me
to enter the key again to connect. However, if i hit the X button to
close the password modal and try to connect again from the networks
list, it does connect without the need to enter the password.

[Bug 1909497] [NEW] package gdm3 3.36.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: installed gdm3 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 10

2020-12-28 Thread Vahid Safavi
Public bug reported:

Hi - Such errors started to happen during software updates after I had
accidentally deleted my boot partition and restored it using the Ubuntu
installation CD. So, the issue is unlikely a bug.

Right now, the system is up and running the applications I use
correctly. Nevertheless, I believe some of the functionality of OS has
been compromised. For example, there are missing icons on "Show
Applications".

Thanks
Vahid

[Bug 1909496] [NEW] Blinking login screen

2020-12-28 Thread Rohit Agarwal
Public bug reported:

Hello,
I am facing this issue since the upgrade of Ubuntu to Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS. The
issue still persists even after re-installing Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS.

Due to inactivity the system goes to the Suspend mode. On restoring from the
suspend mode the login screen appears but it starts to blink continuously
making it impossible to use the system.
The only option is to force restart the system.

Please let me know if this is an already known issue/bug and if there is
a solution available for the same.

Thank You

[Bug 1848180] Re: LVM initrd fails to activate btrfs multidevice root

2020-12-28 Thread Steve Dodd
OK, attached are some initramfs scripts:

local-top.hook -> /etc/initramfs-tools/hooks/btrfs-lvm
local-top.script -> /etc/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/btrfs-lvm

I've tried to make them reasonably generic, the root fs is examined on
initramfs creation, component btrfs devices extracted and tested to see
if they are LVM LVs, and if so added to a config file inside them
initramfs. Then on boot all those LVs are activated before attempting to
mount root.

[Bug 1909494] [NEW] wpa_supplicant and iwlwifi failing with "No buffer space available" since "kernel 5.4.0-56"

2020-12-28 Thread Matthias Kuntze
Public bug reported:

There are reproduce-able WiFi aborts with 20.04.1 LTS since update to
kernel 5.4.0-56.

Behaviour: nm-applet shows a window to enter the WLAN key that is pre-
filled. Hitting the "Connect" button reconnects the WiFi network for a
small period.

The error occurs sometimes very often (e.g. 10 times/minute) or seldom
(only one per day). You can see it in /var/log/syslog at the entry

>>> wpa_supplicant[xxx]: l2_packet_send - sendto: No buffer space
available

As a result 4-Way-Handshake fails and after disconnection the new (old) key is
requestet.
>>> wpa_supplicant[xxx]: wlp3s0: WPA: 4-Way Handshake failed - pre-shared key
>>> may be incorrect
>>> NetworkManager[xxx]:  [xxx] device (wlp3s0): Activation: (wifi)
>>> disconnected during association, asking for new key

There are a lot of people having this problem (see discussion in german

[Bug 287215] Re: xmodmap settings not getting honored when keyboard devices are hotplugged

2020-12-28 Thread Thomas Habets
mgsloan: That's pretty awful indeed, because applying these keyboard
settings locks up all keyboard input for multiple seconds. (depending on
how many settings you need to apply)

Do I read https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25262 right when
I say that this is saying that Xorg does not support ANY settings OF ANY
KIND done by the user, and that it's somehow working as intended that
the user's preferences are wiped whenever Xorg feels like it?

[Bug 1848180] Re: LVM initrd fails to activate btrfs multidevice root

2020-12-28 Thread Steve Dodd
I'm seeing this on focal as well. Running vgchange when the initramfs
crashes to shell no longer seems to work - it just hangs. I have to add
break=mount to kernel command line and do it there. Now working on
hacking something into /etc/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/ -
@Gabriele, that should allow you to make your changes permanent.

[Bug 1876442] Re: [snap] chromium causing many audit messages in syslog

2020-12-28 Thread Ricardo Sanz
Same problem here.

It seems this post is about the same problem:
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2444175

Workaround from that post: run the chromium directly without using Snap:

/snap/chromium/current/usr/lib/chromium-browser/chrome &

It seems to work. However, all personal configuration is linked to the
Snap version so you'll have to configure it again (for example, you lose
all cookies, bookmarks, etc).

[Bug 1909478] [NEW] ubuntu installer Create LVM volume group Devices are invisible

2020-12-28 Thread gregrwm
Public bug reported:

Booted ubuntu installer live iso, got as far as "Create LVM volume
group", which presents a list of Devices which are invisible. The tab
key clearly steps through the invisible devices, but as they are
invisible i cant see which to choose. As a sometimes workaround, by
hitting the spacebar on each invisible choice, the size is shown, and i
can sometimes deduce from that which device it is, tho if several
devices are the same size even that doesn't help.

[Bug 1909479] [NEW] Composed characteres are still not managed by gdm greeter

2020-12-28 Thread michaelly
Public bug reported:

Similary behaviour of this bug was report in #1716159 and #1765261, but
still occured.

Step to reproduce :

  - Login your Ubuntu 20.04 desktop session,
  - Modifi the user password with User Pannel Settings,
  - Select a User,
  - Change his password with a new one containing some composed char like "ë"
or "ê" (composed by two keys for example "^" key + "e" key),
  - Validate.

Now, the User is not abble to connect himself with gdm, because it never
allow the user fills the composed characters (nothing appends) in the
password field.

The user can login by using command line with the new password.

"password" cmd line produce same thing when use composed character, gdm
is still not able to manage composed character.

[Bug 1909474] Re: System hangs after attaching Mediatek mt76x2u based USB Wifi network adapter

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1909474/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

2020-12-28 Thread jbraamse
Apologies for this:
I assumed mdadm has this problem too, but that's a mistake.
mdadm can handle hdd's when they have identical WWN's.
The message "device or resource busy" is caused by something else.

So it's clearly a subiquity bug.
