[Bug 1909936] Re: I had a dual boot Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and Windows 10. Decided to uprade to 20.04 but keep 18.04...install crashed

2021-01-03 Thread Jouni Mettala
This is from Casper.txt
Windows is hibernated, refused to mount.
Falling back to read-only mount because the NTFS partition is in an
unsafe state. Please resume and shutdown Windows fully (no hibernation
or fast restarting.)

Does it install after that?

[Bug 1908535] Re: Xorg crash after clean Ubuntu 20.10 install on Intel system

2021-01-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. Unfortunately that's a common error message path in Xorg so we
need to know what message accompanied the crash. Next time it happens
please also run:

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

or if you had to reboot then instead run:

  journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

[Bug 1909882] Re: wanted to update ubuntu 18 to 20 every time is getting error

2021-01-03 Thread Jouni Mettala

should be safe to remove these old linux-image packages.
Obsolete: hll2370dwpdrv:i386 linux-image-4.13.0-21-generic
linux-image-extra-4.13.0-21-generic

apt.log shows

Could you remove these development packages before upgrade? It should be safe.
Still verify that necessary packages are not removed.
sudo apt remove python-dev python2-dev

[Bug 1909968] [NEW] Print job fails when selecting black ink Canon MP990

2021-01-03 Thread robb990099
Public bug reported:

Print job fails when selecting black ink on a Canon MP990 using options
of

Color Model: Grayscale (from default of RGB Color) and/or
Ink Type: Black (from default of CMYK color).

Using Version: 5.3.3-4 on Lubuntu 20.04 (LXQT)
uname -r : 5.4.0-58-generic

The issue occurs when connected as a USB direct URI or as a LDP
configuration using a wifi connection.

/var/log/cups/error_log shows no errors.

Issue also arises when the above options are selected as print job options or
as printer config options.
So is there another way to select black ink when colour is not required?

Thanks.

[Bug 1909956] [NEW] Include curl in ubuntu-minimal

2021-01-03 Thread James Hebden
Public bug reported:

Curl has become a widely-used go-to tool for bootstrapping software on
new installs of Ubuntu, and currently it is not included in the minimal
install, which is used widely in cloud and container environments.

It would be great if curl could be included in ubuntu-minimal, as it is
commonly expected to be on any Ubuntu system when following instructions
to bootstrap various software projects on Ubuntu.

Even the curl provided by busybox would be a good step to getting less
experienced users off the ground in a cloud-computing context.

[Bug 1908728] Re: Xorg crash

2021-01-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1909950] [NEW] TCP connections never close

2021-01-03 Thread Adam Heathcote
Public bug reported:

The default timeout for TCP connections on port 53 to named/bind9 is 300
seconds. The upstream ISC build of bind9 uses this and honors an
overrides you set in the config files.

The Ubuntu packaged version of bind9 seems to hold idle connections
forever, eventually exhausting the allowed open socket limit and
refusing to service any more requests. This is reproducible on all of
our 20.04 hosts.

[Bug 1909840] Re: SDXC card reader not working properly

2021-01-03 Thread Bruno Luis dos Santos Costa
the information given above was obtained without the sdxc in the card
reader, the next ones were obtained with the sdxc in the card reader.

** Description changed:

I have tried to use a 8GB flash and it works without any flaw in ubuntu
  20.04, kernel 5.4.0-58-generic (machine: Ideapad 130s-11IGM), but i need
to use my 128GB SDXC card and it only works in my windows system in the
same machine. I am "able" to copy files to it in ubuntu (to the 128GB
SDXC card) but most of the copies appear as corrupted files, which does
not happen in windows. The 8GB card had been tested by f3 in ubuntu and
h2testw in windows, and the SDXC had been tested by h2testw in windows
(testing the SDXC with f3 in ubuntu causes input/output error), so i
assume there are no problems in the sd cards.

I think that this problem is related to (or almost the same as)

  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=202473

  by lspci i get

[Bug 1909840] Re: SDXC card reader not working properly

2021-01-03 Thread Bruno Luis dos Santos Costa
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

So, this started about a week ago after an update from Ubuntu. I can
initially login with XWayland, but something loading after the desktop
appears, causes the session to exit. The only thing I can find relevant
in the logs at the timestamp this occurred are the following:

-gkr-pam: unable to locate daemon control file

-Failed to start Process error reports when automatic reporting is
enabled.

-A start job for unit UNIT has failed

I hope this helps track down the issue. Thanks for reading.

BTW I have to submit this as a bug on something else, launchpad keeps
telling me that XWayland doesn't exist.

[Bug 1909266] Re: Change menu name from "Firefox Web Browser" to "Firefox"

2021-01-03 Thread Vincent Chernin
** Description changed:

Ubuntu 20.10 (and downstream distros using ubuntu's firefox package).

  Package version: 84.0+build3-0ubuntu0.20.10.1

Firefox on Ubuntu uses "Firefox Web Browser" as its name in the GNOME
  menu and other locations.

I expect "Firefox" to be used as the name for Firefox. Outside of
Ubuntu, Mozilla's Firefox is ubiquitously referred to as "Firefox" and
  never "Firefox Web Browser".

By default, Windows 10, macOS 11.16, Fedora 33, and Flatpak
versions/packages of Firefox all use "Firefox" as the app name for
  Firefox.

This bug from 16 years ago seems to describe the original change:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/7947

This bug provides rationale behind the original change, that "Firefox needs
more description that just the name."
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/12739

- While the longer "Firefox Web Browser" is not necessarily a confusing
- name, I do not believe it adds anything of value to the user's
- experience. Web browser makers such as Mozilla or Google seem to agree,
- and refer to their browsers as "Firefox" or "Google Chrome",
- respectively. There is no explicit mention of "web browser" within their
- name. This is likely as firefox, and especially chrome are very
- recognized names nowdays.
+ Browser makers such as Mozilla and Google/Chromium refer to their
+ browsers as "Firefox" or "Google Chrome", respectively. There is no
+ explicit mention of "web browser" within their name. This is likely as

Note this issue is *not* about the name of the package itself (currently
"firefox"). It is only about the name that shows in the GNOME top
bar/menu/app launchers. It is the value for "[Name]" on the third line
  of /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop

To fix this issue the default name for Firefox in the aforementioned
ubuntu packaged firefox.desktop file would need to be changed.
Translations may also need to be adjusted which upstream should already
  have names for.

Snap also uses "Firefox Web Browser" as its app name for its Firefox
package, and is affected similarly. If this bug is resolved as
suggested, the snap package should be changed too for consistency.
