Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1910836/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1910836] [NEW] Left Handed Mouse configuration switching to "Right" on reconnect V20.04
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS Release:20.04 Probably the Kernel What I expected: I expected the right mouse button to be the primary What happened instead: The primary button was the left button even though the mouse configuration showed it to be the right button. Re- selecting the right button is only a temporary work-a-round. This problem is constant and quite annoying and only started happening on a regular basis after I plugged in a USB game controller pad. It happened a few times before that but only after a software update and restart. Fixing it after a software update appeared to be permanent until the next update. After having my Logitech game pad controller F310 plugged in it happens constantly - even after just leaving the computer unattended for a while. If I unplug the game pad the problem persists. Perhaps that will give some developers a clue as to where the problem occurs. It may be a multilevel software thing. If not, reading my RANT below might elicit a clue as to what the software is doing wrong. I have seen other situations where when accessing a desktop from a left handed remote desktop, the buttons switch to right handed and after remoting to a third desktop it switches back to left handed etc like it is a toggle instead of a state. That is even more annoying if you need to cut and paste over 3 levels of button switch. We need an RFC to fix this in a standard way. I believe this bug is in many levels of Ubuntu from at least 19.x to the current 20.04.1 LTS based on what I have seen in the forums. If I could actually use my right hand - without poking my eyes out - I would definitely give up being left handed to avoid this issue. I do however prefer the pad to stay right handed and changing the mouse changes the pad in Ubuntu - they should be separately changeable. Perhaps the gamepad toggles the left right button thing - since it is set up as left handed as well. This problem also happens in many game consoles where you can change some things to left handed but not everything - in the software. In the 80s, mice had a switch on the bottom - left/right. Now the software determines right and left based on which user logs into the system. You have to use the mouse to login. That means it starts off right, then you login and then it switches to left. Incredibly stupid but only left-handers get this. I do however have a recommendation - to other left handers out there - since it is what I am going to do from now on - make the solution hardware. "Skip the software left handed thing and buy a true left handed mouse and controller or mod yours to switch". On 2012-07-03T01:10:00+00:00 Damián Nohales wrote: Most GUIs, like MacOS X, Microsoft Windows and Qt handle the keyboard bindings for its treeviews in the same way: user can easily expand, collapse and move into tree nodes using only the arrow keys. In Gtk+, however, is quite different. User needs to press "plus" and "minus" key to collapse and expand nodes, leaving Right and Left arrows with essentially null functionality. Well yeah, that keys allow to move horizontally into row cells. Seeing many of the applications written using Gtk+, there are not many cases where user find useful moving horizontally across the row with the keyboard, most GtkTreeView that I see are simple and used only to show information. So I guess the current GtkTreeView behaviour is crazy, not useful in most cases, goes against intuition and against good User Experience. I'm really not familiar with Gtk+ programming but, as user, I find this "bug" extremely annoying in my day to day. So, I make some changes in Gtk+ to enhance (from my point of view) the behavior of GtkTreeView with the keyboard. The attached patch to the 3.4 branch modifies the default GtkTreeView behaviour with the keyboard, expanding nodes with the right arrow and collapsing it with left arrow, selecting parent and child nodes when appropriate: - When user press Left on a collapsed node, Gtk+ select the parent node. - When user press right on an expanded node, Gtk+ select the first child node. Users that want to navigate into cells horizontally (as I can see, a non frecuent use case) will need to press Ctrl+. Users can still move to the parent node with the Backspace key, without collapsing anything. I don't know exactly if this behavior change break some expected behavior to application programmer, I hope not. A last question, Why do you implemented the current GtkTreeView behavior knowing the big difference with other tested GUIs? Best Regards! [Bug 1841323] Re: mystery message during HDD unlocking
Update: Screen boot messages auto-disapppear too fast. I boot Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS. During the boot process, the black GUI screen has a rotating icon and an Ubuntu logo. That screen shows two messages. I guess they're important or Ubuntu wouldn't show them. They display for only about a quarter of a second each. One is, I think, 3 lines long. I have no idea what they say. Make all such messages persist. Align them so they appear in chronological sequence, the earliest at the top. That should be the order because we're not likely staring at the screen during the whole bootup process, so we'll have to catch up. If there is progress supporting a displayed message so that completion of progress was causing the message to disappear, with message persistence add a progress indicator just for the message's cause that will persist past completion. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1841323 Title: mystery messages during boot process To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-app-launch/+bug/1841323/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1871268] Re: Installation fails due to useless immediate configuration error when "Install Third-Party Drivers" is selected
** Description changed: [Impact] Installations that really succeeded would then fail because APT could not immediately configure a package. Which is a pointless way to fail at that point, because everything did work out anyway. - So what we do is change that to a warning. + We have two changes that help address this: + + * The first one stops immediately configuring multi-arch siblings (e.g. + libc6:i386 when it's configuring libc6:amd64). This was not necessary, + and caused all the libc6:i386 failures here. + + * The second change sort of also supersedes the first one: It just + ignores any errors from immediate configuration, relying on the fact + that it's checked and rectified at a later point if there are + unconfigured packages (which is what made all those failures happen + spuriously after having successfully installed everything). [Test case] - Not available right now. Issues can flare up and then disappear again. + We have one test case in EIPP format in the Debian bug 973305 which was only helped by the second change, not the first one. Run /usr/lib/apt/planners < eipp.log and check there are no errors. + + TODO: It's unclear if the APT from proposed installed in the live + session will fix the installer, needs investigation, but would make a + useful test case. [Regression potential] It's imaginable that we missed something somewhere and some path that checked for a set error doesn't check it anymore, and we report success when we hit an error, but it seems unlikely. Behavior of --simulate changes. This used to fail before as well, and will now only produce a warning. We don't believe that is a reason of concern. [Groovy SRU] The groovy SRU is a sync of the 2.1.11 micro release from Debian unstable which also incorporates changes to the documentation: A typo fix, replacing focal with groovy in examples, and minor Dutch manual pages translation updates. We do not have test cases for the documentation changes, and we do not consider there to be a huge regression potential. As long as they build, they should be readable - maybe some words are wrong in the translation, who knows. [Original bug report] Test Case 1. You'll need to switch to a mirror the Ubuntu archive which includes information about groovy. http://repos.del.extreme-ix.org/ubuntu/dists/ Additionally, at a cursory glance it seems that the mirror has not been updated in quite a while so you may be missing various package updates. Please switch mirrors, update your system, then try the upgrade again. ** Changed in: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1901797 Title: The upgrade to 20.10 is not taking place To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1901797/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1907445] Re: bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.271+bdcom-0ubuntu5: bcmwl kernel module failed to build
So I managed to find some time and decided to try out the following patch 6.30.223.271+bdcom-0ubuntu7 and that worked for me. [Bug 1910496] Re: nvidia-dkms-440 440.100-0ubuntu0.20.04.1: nvidia kernel module failed to build
I've also faced this issue, and after trying out some of the older drivers I can also confirm that nvidia-graphics-435 also doesn't work. This is my first post on the forum, and as such if I need to reformat it or create a new ticket I'd thank you for telling me so. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910496 Title: nvidia-dkms-440 440.100-0ubuntu0.20.04.1: nvidia kernel module failed to build To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-440/+bug/1910496/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1822394] Re: [Dell BIOSes dated 27 Mar 2019, XPS 9575, Precision 5530 2-in-1] laptop keyboard & touchpad not working at gdm screen after boot
I did some distro hopping with my XPS 15 9575 (BIOS 1.13.0) Ubuntu 20.04.1 system had the same problem, but I found that the latest Pop!_OS (20.10) and Manjaro (20.2.1) did not have the issue. This leads me to believe that the issue was fixed on systems using updated kernels, such as kernel 5.8.8, but is still present on kernel version 5.8.0-36 that ships with the most up-to-date Ubuntu 20.04.1. On Ubuntu 20.04.1, I was able to use the workaround found above, by adding "blacklist intel_vbtn" to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and rebooting Will possibly looks into whether Ubuntu 20.10 ships with a kernel that still has this problem -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1822394 Title: [Dell BIOSes dated 27 Mar 2019, XPS 9575, Precision 5530 2-in-1] laptop keyboard & touchpad not working at gdm screen after boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libinput/+bug/1822394/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1871268] Re: Installation fails due to useless immediate configuration error when "Install Third-Party Drivers" is selected
I think we have the final fix now that covers every case and not just the corner case with libc6:i386. It now just ignores those errors, which as we can see works out fine in the end, because the failures occur after installing because the error was never correctly propagated to the caller. A later code segment actually checks that everything is configured, so this is as safe as we can get, and best of all, it can't really regress stuff, since it does not change the actual ordering :) ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: Fix Released => In Progress ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released => In Progress ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu Focal) Status: Fix Released => In Progress ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu Groovy) Status: Fix Released => In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871268 Title: Installation fails due to useless immediate configuration error when "Install Third-Party Drivers" is selected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1871268/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
