[Bug 1915584] [NEW] Info documentation package does not contain Info documentation for Info package
Public bug reported: the command "info info" should show the Info documentation for the info program. It doesn't, instead reporting the following issue: "info: No menu item 'info-stnd' in node '(dir)Top'" This is because the file /usr/share/info/info-stnd.info.gz does not come included in the package in 18.04. He published a patch that has been included in the Ubuntu Hirsute 21.04 package: coreutils 8.32-4ubuntu2. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xdg-desktop-portal/+bug/19056232. https://launchpadlibrarian.net/510003931/coreutils_8.32-4ubuntu1_8.32-4ubuntu2.diff.gz I have cc'ed Julian in this email. The patch addresses a problem that particularly affects gnulib users with fuse.portal mounts, such as users who have installed Flatpak. This is a significant problem for users who depend on df not returning an error exit code in their scripts. Julian's bug report said: "/run/user/1000/doc is a fuse.portal mount point, but statfs() return EPERM, hence df produces an error message. Maybe statfs() is not implemented, but it would be good to quieten this down (df even does not allow me to ignore it, probably because it looks at statfs to find out fs type, so my fs type ignoring doesn't work)." I don't know how to create a pull request in the original git repository (git://git.sv.gnu.org/gnulib.git). I'm still learning. [Bug 1915486] Re: Alt-Tab not functional anymore
@Alex Hung, you are missing the point. The vast, I repeat vast, majority of computer users are accustomed to Alt-Tab and if you do not care to join the de-facto standard then you are painting yourself into an (elitist) corner. And it is worth pointing out here as well that to, again, the vast majority there is no valid distinction between a window and an application, simply because all applications run in the foreground and if some application, for example BOINC, runs in the background then that is explicitly made clear. Therefore, if a window is closed then the assumption by the vast majority of users is that this closes the application as well. Also, saying that the GUI can be customized is myopic. The growing standard is that applications have different skins to suit the user's taste. The same thinking is evident in the different flavors of Ubuntu. The ideal IMO would be a Windows skin, an Apple skin and an Android skin. Lastly, cavalier attitudes like yours are part of the reason that Linux has such a steep learning curve. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1915486 Title: Alt-Tab not functional anymore To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1915486/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1912188] Re: Load growing continously
After some debugging I figured out, there are files on the filesystem that cause the accessing processing to hang. Even a simple ls or find can stuck if tries to access the file for some meta data. I still don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but all files were some kind of browser cache objects (browser, slack client, teams client). I copied everything to a new ZFS dataset and set it to my home folder. It worked like charm for 2 weeks. So I think it cannot be a HW failure or must be something a very weird bug... Now I created a new ZFS encrypted filesystem and migrated my home folder to it again. If it starts failing again, it would confirm that problem occurs only if encryption is enabled. It's also worth mentioning, if I try to copy the zfs filesystem with zfs send, the machine gets locked up really soon. Even if it's caused by an HW eror, this must be a ZFS bug IMO. zfs scrub does not find anything. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1912188 Title: Load growing continously To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/zfs-ubuntu/+bug/1912188/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1915571] [NEW] Cannot start bash session for buildd vm images in LXD vm
Public bug reported: Ubuntu "bootable" buildd vm images, if imported into lxd and booted in a VM container, cannot produce an interactive bash session via, e.g. `lxd exec bash`. This appears to be a problem of the buildd image lacking grub settings to produce console output on ttyS0. Lack of console output also prevents the required manual install of the lxd agent as detailed in this [1] Discourse post about booting Ubuntu in lxd vms. [Impact] * This negatively impacts the user experience of Ubuntu buildd images in lxd, which is one of the target environments for the buildd images [Test Case] * create a metadata.yaml file for the buildd image (these will soon be downloadable from cloud-images.ubuntu.com/buildd): { "architecture": "x86_64", "creation_date": , "properties": { "architecture": "amd64", "description": "Ubuntu buildd focal amd64", "os": "Ubuntu", "series": "focal" } } * tar the metadata.yaml file into .tar.xz * obtain the focal buildd image of your choice, e.g. from [2] * import the image into lxd: `lxd image import .tar.xz .img` * follow the "extra steps for official Ubuntu images" in [1] to init, configure, and start a lxd vm using the image by its fingerprint * Attempt console log in via `lxc console ` or a bash session via `lxc exec bash` * Note that without console output it is not possible to log in via the lxc console to install the lxd agent, and therefore not possible to obtain a bash session via lxc exec [Where problems could occur] * Turning on console output requires changing grub configs; certain values of these configs could break current expectations about buildd image behavior [Other Info] * This issue affects buildd images from all suites, but the lxd-agent-loader package is only available for focal+ [1] https://discuss.linuxcontainers.org/t/running-virtual-machines-with-lxd-4-0/7519 [2] http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/buildd/releases/focal/release/focal-server-cloudimg-amd64-disk.img ** Affects: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Merge proposal linked: https://code.launchpad.net/~codyshepherd/livecd-rootfs/+git/livecd-rootfs/+merge/398027 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1915571 Title: Cannot start bash session for buildd vm images in LXD vm To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/livecd-rootfs/+bug/1915571/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1915568] [NEW] lessfile is broken when using ~/.lessfilter
Public bug reported: If ~/.lessfilter exists and is used by lesspipe/lessfile, then lessfile will make the filename of the temporary file visible in less. The attached patch fixes this. (The filename is echoed to less after the subshell exits; trying to do it inside the subshell means it ends up looking to less like part of the file being viewed.) To test this, you can place the following file at ~/.lessfilter: #!/bin/sh echo foo exit 0 Then opening any file in less (assuming you have lessfile set up) should show "foo". The bug is that, currently, it also shows a filename from somewhere in /tmp. Public bug reported: I think that ever since the HDMI audio driver failed; my system has been unable to update properly. I think that If it is possible to either re- install the HDMI audio driver or both the HDMI audio driver and the HDMI video driver, the Turks version for the AMD Radeon HD 6570 to correct the problem. This is because AMD does not give support for Ubuntu 16.04. They give support for Ubuntu 14.04 and lower. In other words, there are not any proprietary AMD HDMI drivers to correct the problems and therefore the end result is that the system does not update properly and there are many errors related directly to this problem. Often I get system error messages because of these faulty drivers which create this insane endless loop of code which prevent me from properly updating my programs. The generic Ubuntu HDMI drivers are clearly failing on the Turks version of the AMD Radeon HD 6570. There is not any catalyst control center to tweak the video and audio. If AMD does finally give Ubuntu 16.04 support then this insanity will end. Otherwise, I am dependent on Ubuntu to create a better Turks driver for my AMD Radeon HD 6570. Thank you very much for all of your help!! I hope that this driver problem can be resolved and Ubuntu 16.04 can be restored to sanity. Feel free to keep me posted on it. Have a wonderful day!! [Bug 1915152] Re: Installation of Ubuntu Unity 20.10 always fails if there is no EFI partition
Confirmed and reproduced in Xubuntu 20.10 as well. This issue is _not_ confined to Ubuntu Unity and is also present in an official remix. Steps taken to try to resolve it: * updated system BIOS (machine is a Lenovo Thinkpad W500; was on 3.18, now on 3.23, latest) -> no change • tried 2 different flavours of 20.10 -> no change • placed a bootable DOS primary partition (C:), set active, tested OK; no change. • installed Windows 7 Enterprise SP1. No UEFI detected, no EFI partition created, no separate system partition needed or used. Ubuntu Unity 20.04 went on this machine without a glitch. openSUSE Leap 15.2 was also fine. The machine does not have UEFI, as far as I can tell. There is no option to boot in legacy or UEFI mode. The only way I have discovered to install 20.10 was to tell it my DOS partition was the EFI System Partition. This worked fine, installed GRUB into /dev/sda and now it boots. However this has rendered my DOS partition unbootable, and now it is mounted at /boot/efi which is not what I want. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1915152 Title: Installation of Ubuntu Unity 20.10 always fails if there is no EFI partition To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1915152/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1915288] Re: grub 2.04 net does not like deployments with kvm maas pods
** Description changed: - upgrading to grub 2.04 in maas streams + [Impact] - straber reports lots of useful hangs and timeouts. + * MAAS KVM LXD pods fail to deploy, in very beefy servers. + + 1) cherrypick upstream fix that caused crash upon completion of http + networking + + 2) revert patches that add support for TCP window scaling and non- + ethernet cards + + With above changes one can deploy 100 out of 100 MAAS KVM LXD pods using + the patched grubnetx86.efi + + + [Test Case] + + * Configure maas + + * Configure networking for lxd kvm pods + + * Deploy ubuntu focal on a node + + * Manually init lxd, allow netowrking, add remote password + + * Add kvm lxd host in the kvm page of maas + + * Disable image syncing in maas + + * replace /var/snap/maas/common/maas/boot- + resources/current/bootloader/uefi/amd64/grubx64.efi with the signed + grubnetx64.efi.signed from the grub-efi-amd64-signed package + + * compose & commision hundred nodes with cli api: + + for i in `seq 100`; do maas ps5 vmhost compose 8; done + + (where 8 is the id of the kvm host, see url for the kvm node in + question) + + Without these patches failure rate is up to 30%. With these patches 100 + out of 100 pods deploy fine. + + Thus one should be ok testing with less number of pods too. + + [Where problems could occur] + + * These patches mean that we are using smaller (same ones we did in + bionic) TCP window, thus for very large kernels/initrds we may hit http + timeouts on the server. Also it means that throughput speed of + deployments is lower again. + + * However it is better to deploy where we used to deploy before, than + failing to deploy small things on small networks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1915288 Title: grub 2.04 net does not like deployments with kvm maas pods To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1915288/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
