[Bug 1920052] Re: pdftopcf missing

2021-03-18 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report

> The package is installed but command-not-found keeps suggesting it.

The wording might be a bit confusing but what it states is

'Command 'pdftopcf' not found, did you mean:

command 'bdftopcf' from deb xfonts-utils (1:7.7+6)'

Basically the pdftopcf command you are trying to use isn't available but it's
suggesting bdftopcf which is close enough in naming in case you did a typo and
that's what you meant.
Checking for pdftopcf on the upstream xorg gitlab has no result, are you sure
that utility exists?

It still crashes even if pstate is disabled. Now I do not know what is

is not a hardware issue. When music is played when this happens the

[Bug 1910323] Re: Fix implicit declaration warnings for kselftests/memfd test on newer releases

2021-03-18 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
While debugging bug 1910277, I found that the test compilation will print
some warnings:
    memfd_test.c:64:7: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘open’;
memfd_test.c:90:6: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘fcntl’
    memfd_test.c:397:6: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘fallocate’;
fuse_test.c:67:6: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘fcntl’
    fuse_test.c:261:7: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘open’;

And there is a fix in upstream for this.

  [Fix]
  * 1c49e3783f8899 ("selftests/memfd: Fix implicit declaration warnings")

- This fix can be cherry-picked into F/G and compiled without any issue.
+ This fix can be cherry-picked into F/G and compiled without any problem.
+ Older kernel does not have this issue.

  [Test Case]
Build the memfd test in kselftests with:
    sudo make TARGETS=memfd

With this fix, these warnings will be gone.

  [Where problems could occur]
This fix is just for fixing the test case compilation, so it's not affecting
real kernel functionality. If we need to fix it on older release X/B, this
patch will cause compilation errors as they're missing some other vital
commits, since we're not running this test on older releases I think it's fine
to ignore them for now.

Yeah it's just a missing/unsupported bit depth in old versions of

  return PictStandardA1;

For any poor saps that encounter this in the future in a similar
situation, replacing the graphics driver with 'virtio' in the KVM/qemu
config fixes this:

Instead of the default 'cirrus' or whatever. Found this in my age-old
notes from the last time I encountered this problem a year ago. I'm not
sure whether this triggered a cache clear or whether the bit depth is
different or what...

[Bug 1766938] Re: gnome-shell crashed in standard_pict_format_for_depth()

2021-03-18 Thread Nicholas Andre
I'm seeing this crash on a brand new Ubuntu 18.04 install running on KVM
(the host itself is on 16.04). When I connect via KVM's VNC and try to
open settings app, I get a 100% crash. It's weird because I haven't
installed any additional software.

[Bug 1920067] Re: Somehow today's Hirsute updates have broken evdi with Xorg even when I boot with the 5.10 kernel

2021-03-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I should also note that kernel 5.10 no longer exists in any version of
Ubuntu, so "Won't Fix" is probably accurate if the kernel is the factor
here.

Instead we should probably focus on bug 1920059 only.

[Bug 1920067] Re: Somehow today's Hirsute updates have broken evdi with Xorg even when I boot with the 5.10 kernel

2021-03-18 Thread Jonathan Kamens
I debugged this further and discovered that one of the following updates
caused evdi with kernel 5.10 to start failing as described above:

2021-03-18 21:55:45 upgrade libegl-mesa0:amd64 20.3.4-1 21.0.0-1
2021-03-18 21:55:45 upgrade libgbm1:amd64 20.3.4-1 21.0.0-1
2021-03-18 21:55:45 upgrade libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 20.3.4-1 21.0.0-1
2021-03-18 21:55:46 upgrade libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64 20.3.4-1 21.0.0-1
2021-03-18 21:55:47 upgrade libglx-mesa0:i386 20.3.4-1 21.0.0-1
2021-03-18 21:55:48 upgrade libglx-mesa0:amd64 20.3.4-1 21.0.0-1
2021-03-18 21:55:48 upgrade libglapi-mesa:amd64 20.3.4-1 21.0.0-1
2021-03-18 21:55:48 upgrade libglapi-mesa:i386 20.3.4-1 21.0.0-1

When I downgraded all of the listed debs to the old version indicated
(20.3.4-1) and rebooted, evdi with kernel 5.10 started working again. So
I guess this is a mesa bug?

[Bug 1920067] Re: Somehow today's Hirsute updates have broken evdi with Xorg even when I boot with the 5.10 kernel

2021-03-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
When drmSetMaster fails it generally means a display server (Xorg) is
trying to start while some other display server is already busy with the
graphics hardware (has not yet called drmDropMaster).

That "other" display server might be plymouthd if the login screen fails
to start. To test that theory you can try changing the kernel parameter
"splash" to "nosplash".

Ubuntu 20.10 is a short-lived release so there won't be any updates to
the installer where 20.10 can ever be fixed. And 20.10 reaches end of
life in July (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases).

The fix is in 21.04 already, and if you would like to see it in 20.04.3
then please click the nominate button in bug 1907914.

[Bug 1917203] Re: AMD-Vi: Unable to read/write to IOMMU perf counter

2021-03-18 Thread David Coe
I've just tried Surajee's patch on Ubuntu's latest kernel 5.11.0-11 for
upcoming Hirsute and it consistently unlatches IOMMU after 6 x 20 msec
tries on my Ryzen 2400G. Mainline 5.12-rc2 gave identical results.

Paul Menzel too gets failure even after 10 x 20 msecs on a 2200G and
regards so long a delay as most unacceptable. Alexander Monakov's very
simple patch always works for me but I haven't seen data from other
people. Surajee has mentioned problems with it for some part of AMD's
product range and, as one of AMD's IOMMU experts down at Austen Texas,
he should know his onions :-).

I would be tempted to run with the patch (11 x 20 msecs), log the exit
count number and get some user feedback. Hopefully an improved patch
will emerge! AMD may have commercial as well as technical reasons not
leave it unaddressed.

Best regards

[Bug 1845756] Re: lubuntu - strange movement of wallpaper on monitor.settings change (or next login)

2021-03-18 Thread Chris Guiver
I just experienced this again at login on a QA-test install performed yesterday.
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)

I was using box for support purposes (remote access from remmina) &
indirectly caused my real/visible session to logout (I was trying to
logout/close my remote session).

On logging back in with the physical session,

- my top display is now black (no wallpaper), bottom display has the
top-half of the actual wallpaper. (box has two displays, one above the
other)

- top (black) display now shows openbox options on right-click of black-
background

- bottom display (top half of wallpaper) right-click has expected
LXQt/Lubuntu menu appear

[Bug 1917194] Re: [Dell G5 5590] lspci freezes computer on Ubuntu 20.04

2021-03-18 Thread Ariel Torti
Tried 5.8.0-43 kernel and didn't work.
I also tried booting Manjaro which uses 5.6.15-1-MANJARO and the issue is
present.

I ended up doing a workaround, compiling an ubuntu kernel with `pci-
stub` as builtin and `xhci-hcd` as a dynamic module. That way I can make
pci-stub bind to the culprit device and everything works fine.

[Bug 1920081] [NEW] update-manager pop-ups may lead to accidental reboots

2021-03-18 Thread Christian Rauch
Public bug reported:

I encounter the (rare) situation where the update-manager's "reminder"
popped up with the "Restart Now" button below my mouse cursor just when
I clicked with the intention to select something in the window below the
newly opened reminder window. As a result, my PC rebooted with all my
work lost.

This is unacceptable. Even though this might only occur in rare
circumstances, the desktop should not present random windows to the user
that might lead to a loss of work.

I suggest that the update-manager should be properly integrated into the
GNOME software centre (as it is on Debian), or at least only show a
notification should be shown that opens the current pop-up when clicked
on.

[Bug 1918265] Re: Random boot failure with Ubuntu 20.04 / grub 2.04 and Hyper-V 2012r2

2021-03-18 Thread ben
Hi,

So for secureboot it's off, the system doesn't boot with it on
(compatible key not included with 2012R2's Hyper-V i suppose.

The shim used was the one setup from 20.04.2 install image, technically
it's not the same as the one in the "shim" package:

78415fb8fb9b909f8029858113f1335f /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/shimx64.efi
9bdc83ad343e8745e1f3d55c36cf2df6 /usr/lib/shim/shimx64.efi

But some build information extracted from the binary seem to say
otherwise :

$Version: 15 $
$BuildMachine: Linux x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux $
$Commit: a4a1fbe728c9545fc5647129df0cf1593b953bec $

$Version: 15 $
$BuildMachine: Linux x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux $
$Commit: a4a1fbe728c9545fc5647129df0cf1593b953bec $

I have attached a still frame captured from grub boot with "set
debug=all". It's the frame just before the VM reboot.

As for the linux-azure kernel, i see no differences on the boot process in any
of the three following kernels:
  vmlinuz-5.8.0-44-generic
  vmlinuz-5.4.0-1041-azure
  vmlinuz-5.4.0-67-generic

It may be interesting to know however that when the linux-
azure-5.4.0.1041.21 kernel was introduced into Ubuntu 18.04 i started to
experience weird boot issues causing me to un-install it and fall back
to the 5.0.0-1036-azure kernel.

There might be some commun issue here

[Bug 1919097] Re: Installation crashed

2021-03-18 Thread Ardeshir
Thanks @jouni-mettala
That day I was installing Ubuntu on a friend's system. I faced that error and
thought it is good to report.

I'm not sure what caused that and what fixed that. But that night I went
into a lot of tweaks in bios and filesystem. Last thing I tried was to
convert MBR -> GPT using `gdisk`. And then I could install Ubuntu.

Thanks for devoting time on this.

[Bug 1920070] [NEW] stage 3 script doesn't stop services due to incorrect service directory

2021-03-18 Thread Erik Swanson
Public bug reported:

The stage 3 script at /etc/runit/3 has commands to gracefully stop
services, but they don't work because they assume services are at
/service instead of /etc/service.

The patch 0001-default-directory-for-services-on-Debian-is-etc-
servi.diff changed the service directory from /service to /etc/service
but did not alter the included scripts that assume the service directory
is /service.

This affects all runit package versions that include the above-mentioned
patch (all versions, probably).

The attached trivial patch is based off the state of /etc/runit/3 in
runit 2.1.2-9.2ubuntu1

What flash-kernel does is generate wrapped versions of *exisiting*
vmlinuz and initrd.img files. It doesn't generate those files, rather
post-processes them.
The kernel doesn't depend on flash-kernel, it just recommends it like
it does GRUB on x86.

I note also that there is a report on the problem filed against the

Perhaps Ubuntu devs should engage with that report.
