Please show debug output from apt when installing, that would explain
why the wrong alternative is selected.

[Bug 1920412] Re: update-notifier should not depend on gnome-shell

2021-03-19 Thread Steve Langasek
update-notifier depends on gnome-shell | notification-daemon because
this is what it integrates with. Without one of these selected in
advance, the default will be pulled in. Gnome-shell is the preferred
implementation, so it's correct for update-notifier to depend on it as
the first alternative. And ubuntu-mate-desktop depends on mate-
notification-daemon, so it's unclear to me why gnome-shell would be
selected instead. This is also unreproducible for me in a minimal
hirsute environment.

[Bug 1920578] Re: mozc-tool ignores KDE Qt theme

2021-03-19 Thread Daniel Tang
Furthermore, the version text is impossible to read without a color
picker tool.

This seems related to the Qt theme being wrong.

[Bug 1920578] [NEW] mozc-tool ignores KDE Qt theme

2021-03-19 Thread Daniel Tang
Public bug reported:

Mozc ignores my KDE Qt theme, and uses the ugly fallback theme.

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu

Description:Ubuntu Hirsute Hippo (development branch)
Release:21.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

mozc-utils-gui:
  Installed: 2.26.4220.100+dfsg-4ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.26.4220.100+dfsg-4ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 2.26.4220.100+dfsg-4ubuntu2 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What you expected to happen

The UI should use the configured Qt theme like all Qt applications. For
an example of an application with the correct theme, you can open
Dolphin, and click the overflow menu, then "Configure Dolphin".

The "OK", "Apply", and "Cancel" buttons are particularly easy to
compare.

4) What happened instead

The UI looks very ugly and out of place compared to the rest of the
system. It looks like it's falling back to the default Qt theme. It
doesn't look like a piece of software bundled with Ubuntu, but rather
like downloaded 3rd-party software that bundles its own Qt like Anki
(dark mode), Genymotion, Binary Ninja, and (old versions of) MultiMC.

[Bug 1918062] Re: unable to fetch some website

2021-03-19 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the
support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are
uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find help posting your problem
in the support forum of your local Ubuntu's community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at http://askubuntu.com. For help on
reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1742193] Re: nemo-desktop does not show background on GNOME FlashBack session

2021-03-19 Thread lesliek
Norbert provided (#5) what he said was a complete and working solution for v
18.04 and Alberts updated Norbert's solution (#9) for v 20.04.
I want to adopt the updated solution, so that I can continue to use my desktop
as I have for decades now. (I'm old and resist change as much as possible.)
It calls for me to remove /usr/bin/nautilus-desktop, but I have no such file in
/usr/bin/, although I do have other files with "nautilus" in their name.
Can the file nautilus-desktop have been removed and replaced in 20.04?
I'd be very grateful for any assistance.

[Bug 1920217] Re: id: ‘clamav’: no such user

2021-03-19 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1920217

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

For support you can use the answer section of launchpad, ie.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.

problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or

[Bug 1920571] [NEW] Groovy update: upstream stable patchset 2021-03-19

2021-03-19 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

[Bug 1920567] [NEW] virtual packages are not provided

2021-03-19 Thread Arnold Czémán
Public bug reported:

Version: 3.11-3build1
Ubuntu release: 20.04

The python3-ply binary package should provide these virtual packages:
python3-ply-lex-3.10, python3-ply-yacc-3.10, but it cannot provide them
after a build in a fresh focal docker container.

This is because the provided virtual package names are generated by the
'debian/virtual-packages.py' script, which uses a shebang with
'/usr/bin/python'. By default there is no 'python' binary on ubuntu
focal.

One solution could be adding the 'python-is-python2' package as a build
dependency. I have used this temporarily.

Or the shebang could be more specific: '/usr/bin/python2' or
'/usr/bin/env python2'.

Or the script could be ported to python3 with a proper specific shebang.

It would also be useful to raise a build error, when the script fails.

[Bug 1914456] Re: 120 sec kernel timeout is seen during SCSI remove_device.

2021-03-19 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
Hi Jitendra, I am sorry for the delay - I've tried to reproduce both using
regular SCSI device in a virtual machine and by using iSCSI, and neither was a
successful reproducer. Based on the stack traces I see in your "echo w" output,
it seems to be related with your special iSCSI target.
Also, was the SCSI device removed holding a btrfs filesystem?

I don't see any benefit in keeping the machine in this state, please go
ahead and repurpose that to try reproducing; but I'd like you to set
kdump before, if possible, so we collect the dump over there. Also,
please try using the latest Bionic kernel 4.15.0-139.

In order to setup kdump, please run the following as root user:
1) apt-get update; apt-get install linux-crashdump

2) Answer the installer questions using the default responses

3) Edit the file "/etc/default/grub.d/kdump-tools.cfg" and change the
crashkernel setting to be something like "crashkernel=440M" - you can
try a bit less memory, but since it's hard to reproduce, it's safer to
keep a large value to prevent kdump failure

4) Please execute, as root user: echo "kernel.hung_task_panic=1" >>
/etc/sysctl.conf

5) Reboot the machine and check the output of "kdump-config show" - it
should show that kdump is ready. If so, please try a dummy kdump to
check if it's working, by running:

echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq
echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger

6) If it works, the node should be rebooted and you should have a dump
collected on /var/crash/ .
In that case, go ahead and try to reproduce.

Thanks for your effort here - I'll be out next week, as soon as I'm back I'll
continue the work.
Cheers,

Guilherme

The update to gnome-shell-extension-appindicator 35-1 on hirsute today
fixed this for me on hirsute.

At least I got the applet loading without problems three restarts in a
row, and recently it failed on every restart on the previous version.

[Bug 1920549] [NEW] Unable to decrypt disk on boot

2021-03-19 Thread CVirus
Public bug reported:

Good day,

I enabled disk encryption when installing Ubuntu and it has been working
flawlessly till kernel 5.8.0-45.51 was installed.

I keep getting this error when entering my password: "cryptsetup failed,
bad password or options". I was somehow able to fall back into some
shell while booting and it seems that any characters I type show up as
diamonds "♦", except for the numbers. I also came across this thread
which talks about a similar problem
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1220022/keyboard-types-only-numbers-
while-letters-are-typed-like-diamonds

Switching back to 5.8.0-44 fixes the issue for me.

I'm currently on Ubuntu 20.10
Would be happy to provide more details.

Thanks!

[Bug 1907914] Re: default locale when selecting english(US) and belgian timezone is incorrect

On 2021-03-19 19:37, Amedee Van Gasse wrote:

That's formally correct. But since this bug was submitted, I had
forgotten about the other bug, and a fix referring to this one was
implemented, I marked it the other way around. Doesn't matter in
practice - you are here now, right? :)

On 2021-03-19 19:42, Amedee Van Gasse wrote:
> How is this problem solved in other countries with multiple
> languages, for example Switzerland?

Switzerland seems to have the same situation:

$ grep _CH /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED | grep 'UTF-8'
de_CH.UTF-8 UTF-8
fr_CH.UTF-8 UTF-8
it_CH.UTF-8 UTF-8
wae_CH UTF-8

I.e. the installer picks de_CH.UTF-8 if the user selects English as
language. But since German is spoken by the majority in Switzerland,
it's a sensible default and there is no problem to solve. Besides the
"political" one then, but users in countries like Belgium and
Switzerland have to live with that. The installer does not have a
mechanism for setting the formats locale explicitly, and it can easily
be tweaked afterwards in Settings.

Agreed but with the condition that the *input* is present. If the
initrd file has not yet been generated then another error from
flash-kernel seems redundant, specifically in the case where if the
kernel package is not yet installed (and maybe this is the reasonble
check the post-inst can do) then it's *always* going to fail.

Does flash-kernel hook into initramfs updates via the
/etc/kernel/{pre,post}inst.d/flash-kernel ? like initramfs-tools does?

I suspect most of what flash-kernel does would be triggered via kernel
postinst hooks.

Interesting. That may be another approach; though that would be a f-k
specific mount for curtin to swallow when installing one package; we
might not know it's getting installed (like as a Recommends with the
linux-image-generic) so that might not be as useful.

[Bug 1920246] Re: Focal update: v5.4.106 upstream stable release

2021-03-19 Thread Kamal Mostafa
** Description changed:

  SRU Justification

  Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or

Given that a failure to produce a wrapped initrd could cause a system
to become unbootable, it does seem to me like a hard failure here is
warranted. But, perhaps we could provide a "s... it's ok, just
chill" mechanism. Maybe a FLASH_KERNEL_SKIP=1 environment variable?

Certainly a non-live chroot can avoid this by leading f-k to believe
it does not recognize the system. In fact, ISTR bind mounting certain
files in build chroots to trick f-k into doing nothing.

[Bug 1215882]

2021-03-19 Thread L-stephan
In case the server responds with a 550 Thunderbird correctly shows an
error message to the user and goes back to the edit window, so you can
resend the message.

If it would do the same in the case of a 4XX all would be good.

Should be an easy fix.

[Bug 1215882]

2021-03-19 Thread Westburne04
The reason that this bug is critical is because a user does not know an
email was not sent. The solution that is needed is for the user to know
that it has not been sent. A workaround does not help if a user does
not know there is a problem. I raised the issue many years ago and have
kept an eye that the brief message that sending fails, before the email
is put in the sent folder, does not appear. For me the circumstances
that originally caused it seem no longer to apply.
