[Bug 1930633] Re: Existing EFI Boot partition for Windows 10 not detected by Ubuntu 21.04 install!

2021-06-02 Thread Steve Langasek
unfortunately, I can see nothing in the logs attached which would
explain this failure. To the contrary, the logs clearly show that
partman correctly detects /dev/sda1 as an ESP. There are exceptions
from ubiquity in the syslog, but they appear to be unrelated.

[Bug 1927808] Re: rtw88_8821ce causes freeze

2021-06-02 Thread Paul Szabo
Setting  /etc/modprobe.d/rtw88_pci.conf  to contain
  options rtw88_pci disable_aspm=1
seems to have worked: no freeze. To confirm the setting:
  psz@ollee:~$ grep . /sys/module/rtw88_pci/parameters/*
  /sys/module/rtw88_pci/parameters/disable_aspm:Y
  /sys/module/rtw88_pci/parameters/disable_msi:N
Still, there are the lines
  rtw_8821ce :04:00.0: timed out to flush queue 2
  rtw_8821ce :04:00.0: firmware failed to leave lps state
in dmesg (to attach in next comment), and I wonder whether those
indicate some issue that should (also?) be fixed.

[Bug 1456668] Re: evince cannot display one of my postscript files

2021-06-02 Thread Alex Cherepanov
The problem seems to be caused by evince that uses DSC processing on a
non-DSC-conforming file.
Removal of all DSC comments makes evince display the last page of the file
only. This indicates that evince cannot handle non-conforming files at all.

Perhaps evince can convert all PostScript files to PDF and avoid the
reliance on DSC parsing.

[Bug 1872802] Re: Resizing any window will randomly result in graphics corruption for a fraction of a second (in Xorg sessions)

2021-06-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It's only as a test. Does a Wayland session avoid this bug? I know other
people have said it does in the past but they are no longer experiencing
problems and it would be most useful to have an answer from the original
reporter.

> I've tried this before commenting last time and it had way worse

Please open a new bug about that or it's unlikely to be investigated and
fixed. Although check to see if it is bug 1874578 first.

> Also applications like OBS, Discord and Teams have issues with
> recording and/or streaming, so I have to stay on X.

That's due to missing support for PipeWire in those apps, required for
screen capturing in Wayland sessions. OBS has a fix coming in version 27
for example (bug 1838967).

Please remember to report back on your findings from comment #33.

I've tried this before commenting last time and it had way worse
performance with the desktop itself. For example the dash would take a
minute or so to load all the icons. Also applications like OBS, Discord
and Teams have issues with recording and/or streaming, so I have to stay

[Bug 1930648] Re: lubuntu 18.04.5 cannot partially upgrade

2021-06-02 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Lubuntu 18.04.5 was the last Lubuntu to use the LXDE desktop, and
supported upgrades can only be performed via re-install, ie. release
notes of 18.10 & later contain text like the following (found in
https://lubuntu.me/focal-2-released/)

"Note, due to the extensive changes required for the shift in desktop
environments, the Lubuntu team does not support upgrading from 18.04 or
below to any greater release. Doing so will result in a broken system.
If you are on 18.04 or below and would like to upgrade, please do a
fresh install."

The package `lubuntu-core` doesn't exist in any release past-18.04 as it
was specific to LXDE.  ie.

Lubuntu 18.04 LTS was the end-of-the-road for the `lubuntu-core`(LXDE;

should have been removed, and your system made a Ubuntu system if you

[Bug 1930603] Re: mount.cifs fails to mount DFS shares

2021-06-02 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Hi Chris,

Thanks for reporting! Looking at the difference between
4.15.0-142-generic and 4.15.0-143-generic, there is one commit:

ubuntu-bionic$ git log --grep "cifs"

cifs: Set CIFS_MOUNT_USE_PREFIX_PATH flag on setting cifs_sb->prepath.

BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1919380

[ Upstream commit a738c93fb1c17e386a09304b517b1c6b2a6a5a8b ]

While debugging another issue today, Steve and I noticed that if a
subdir for a file share is already mounted on the client, any new
mount of any other subdir (or the file share root) of the same share
results in sharing the cifs superblock, which e.g. can result in
incorrect device name.

While setting prefix path for the root of a cifs_sb,
CIFS_MOUNT_USE_PREFIX_PATH flag should also be set.
Without it, prepath is not even considered in some places,
and output of "mount" and various /proc/<>/*mount* related
options can be missing part of the device name.

This has caused problems before, in bug 1923670, where we wrote to upstream and
had it reverted from upstream -stable and reverted it from our kernels.

Having a look through the git history, I see the revert actually landed
in 4.15.0-144-generic, which has just landed in -updates (but not quite
yet in -security).

It is reported to cause problems in older kernels, so revert it for now
until we can figure it out...

[Bug 1930651] [NEW] Ubuntu installer doesn't allow setting swap higher than 2GB

2021-06-02 Thread Stanley Phoong
Public bug reported:

Installed Ubuntu 18.04 final release and I tried setting up a swap with
the pre-seed config but the swap value fails to go above 2GB.

Here's my configuration:

```
## Partitioning regular
d-i partman-auto/disk string /dev/sda
d-i partman-auto/method string regular
d-i partman-auto/choose_recipe select atomic
# Swap Memory
d-i partman-auto/cap-ram string 4096
d-i partman-basicfilesystems/no_swap boolean false
#d-i partman-swapfile/percentage string 50
d-i partman-swapfile/size string 4096
# This makes partman automatically partition without confirmation, provided
d-i partman-partitioning/confirm_write_new_label boolean true
d-i partman/choose_partition select finish
d-i partman/confirm boolean true
d-i partman/confirm_nooverwrite boolean true
```

I've seen others facing similar issues and their recommendation was to
use `d-i partman-auto/cap-ram` to configure the value but I've tried
setting it to false as well as a larger value and it still doesn't work.

What we are expected to see if the swap value increase to 4GB as shown
in the pre-seed config.

Possible related issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/partman-auto/+bug/1767299

Any help?

[Bug 1921632] Re: build module CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SOUNDWIRE_SOF_MACH=m for 5.11, 5.13-rc2 and later

2021-06-02 Thread Hui Wang
@Marian,

After read the https://github.com/thesofproject/linux/issues/2700, looks
like the kernel 5.11 couldn't work on your machine. So please use the
5.13 kernel built on your won, and wait for the mainline build kernel to
merge this kconfig fix.

And for the sof-firmware and alsa-ucm-conf, could you please replace the needed
files little by little, then find what files must be upgraded to support your
machine. like:

/lib/firmware/intel/sof/*.ri?
/lib/firmware/intel/sof-tplg/*.tplg?
/usr/share/alsa/ucm2/sof-soundwire/?

[Bug 1927808] Re: rtw88_8821ce causes freeze

2021-06-02 Thread Ping-Ke Shih
My propose method is to fix ASPM issue by driver instead.

So, don't apply "pcie_aspm=force pcie_aspm.policy=performance" to kernel
parameter, but
add a file /etc/modprobe.d/rtw88_pci.conf with below content
  options rtw88_pci disable_aspm=1

(Sorry, disable_aspm=0 in #17 is typo)

Then, power-off (ensure wifi card is power-off as well) and power-on.

To make sure the setting take effect
  cat /sys/module/rtw_pci/parameters/disable_aspm
The output must be 1.

[Bug 1930615] Re: VS Code crashes Vala Appmenu - patch included

2021-06-02 Thread Ben Reaves
** Summary changed:

- VS Code crashes Vala Appmenu
+ VS Code crashes Vala Appmenu - patch included

** Description changed:

  $lsb_release -rd
  Description:  Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
  Release:  20.04

  Opening VS Code, particularly folders, causes the Vala-panel-appmenu to
  have segment fault on xfce4 and in the case of Budgie ends the entire
  user session as the budgie-panel cannot handle it. Backporting commits
  from 0.7.5 into the current release appears to fix the issue, I believe
  fossfreedom also backported another commit to aid in building the source
  properly.

  The crash log of Budgie-panel caused by vala-panel-appmenu has been
  attached.

[Bug 1921632] Re: build module CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SOUNDWIRE_SOF_MACH=m for 5.11, 5.13-rc2 and later

2021-06-02 Thread Marian Klein
To answer your question: My kernel was compiled 5.13-rc2.
I have a messed up system now. I enabled hirsute-proposed repository and
upgraded all the packages I could. Now even the kernel 5.13-rc2 does not work
for me with the audio on speakers (it works on audio jack headset). Non-kernel
Packages linux-firmware and alsa-ucm-conf are also important.

For original working kernel 5.13-rc2 I had to also previously download
topology file sof-tgl-rt711-rt1308-2ch.tplg (I don't remember from where) and
overwrite file in linux-firmware.

Also I had to overwrite ucm2 in alsa-ucm-conf package:

user1@HPSpectre:~/dev$ git clone
https://github.com/alsa-project/alsa-ucm-conf.git
sudo apt remove alsa-ucm-conf
cd /usr/share/alsa/
sudo ln -s "$HOME/dev/alsa-ucm-conf/ucm2" ucm2

Please see https://github.com/thesofproject/linux/issues/2700
I still have the same problem like the last message of another guy.

Alsa mixer shows radically different options for your kernel and for mine.

Hello Eric, thanks for doing the research on this issue.

Does the coredump look like this may be exploitable in some fashion?

Is the crash something that affects anything beyond the specific process
serving the client in question?

Thanks

[Bug 1930645] Re: Fix Ethernet not working by hotplug - RTL8106E

2021-06-02 Thread koba
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  After hot-plug the Ethernet cable, the status of Ethernet is always down.

  [Fix]
  Because ASPM is enabled on RTL8106E, the link change interrupt can't be fired
immediately.
  Need to wait a long time to get the link change interrupt.
  Introduce a polling method to watch the link status and disable the link
change interrupt for RTL8106E.
+ Due to schedule, SRU this patch first and will upstream later.

  [Test]
  Verified on machines with Realtek Ethernet device, the Ethernet works well
after hotplug 30 times.

  [Regression Potential]
  High, may have some cases missed in link change polling method and will fix
them in the future.

[Bug 1930641] Re: memory leak in xorg-server 2:1.20.9-2ubuntu1.2~20.04.2

2021-06-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Memory leaks in the Xorg process are usually
the fault of an application. Because in X11 the server owns the
resources created by applications, and any leaks will appear in the
server process 'Xorg'.

To help track down any offending applications, please run this command
while the leak is happening:

  xrestop

and it will show the applications causing the most memory usage in Xorg.

You mentioned you built working kernel yourself, is it based on 5.11
kernel or 5.13 kernel? I guess your machine has the soundwire SDCA
design, we plan to support the soundwire SDCA audio design in the impish
(5.13) kernel.

ubuntu kernel hirsute-proposed 5.11.0-19 does not work. I believe
backporting patches to such an old kernel was a mistake. You should have

@Eduard,

thanks for your verification.

@Marian Klein,

I will verify the proposed kernel. And about the fix in mainline build
kernel (like v5.13-rc4), need to wait for a while, the process is the
fix is merged in impish first, then the mainline build kernel will get
the fix from impish kernel.

[Bug 1930640] [NEW] Error when using S3 multipart upload - TypeError: cannot use a string pattern on a bytes-like object

2021-06-02 Thread Jon Yoon
Public bug reported:

I followed the solution in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/duplicity/+bug/1908971 (I was
running duplicity 0.8.11.1612-1 as well), but after upgrading to 0.8.19,
the problem still persists for me when trying to use S3 multipart
uploads.

Note: This problem doesn't appear to exist in duplicity 0.7.17 running
on python2.7, which is making me wonder if this is a python3.8 related
issue.

Patch fixing the bug

Hi all,

in the commit r1826995 a following change has been made to
ssl_callback_SSLVerify function in ssl_engine_kernel.c:

-if (ok && sc->server->ocsp_enabled == TRUE) {
+if (ok && ((sc->server->ocsp_mask & SSL_OCSPCHECK_CHAIN) ||
+ (errdepth == 0 && (sc->server->ocsp_mask & SSL_OCSPCHECK_LEAF {

Instead of using sc->server, mctx should be used. It causes now weird
behavior, since ocsp_mask is by default set to UNSET (which is -1,
translated to signed int...). When proxy is set set on the same server,
if-condition above will be true.

I'm proposing this change:

-if (ok && sc->server->ocsp_enabled) {
+if (ok && ((mctx->ocsp_mask & SSL_OCSPCHECK_CHAIN) ||
+ (errdepth == 0 && (mctx->ocsp_mask & SSL_OCSPCHECK_LEAF {

It was working before, because ocsp_enabled was by default set to FALSE.
ocsp_mask is UNSET by default now and is set either to proxy or server
structure in sc. If sc with is_proxy is passed here, it will result in bug.

Attaching patch. Please merge it to 2.4.x if possible.

[Bug 1921632] Re: build module CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SOUNDWIRE_SOF_MACH=m for 5.11, 5.13-rc2 and later

2021-06-02 Thread Eduard
Alright, I also tested the proposed 5.11.0-19-generic now.

SoundWire does work on this kernel.
So that part is OK.

BUT

Recently a new bug has been introduced with the ath11k driver, that my machine
also uses.
It seems that we are now going to introduce this same bug on Ubuntu if this
kernel gets accepted (It has already passed It has already passed Arch Linux
and Fedora, on which I reported too. And has also been fixed already.)
The result is that WIFI is not working.

Shall I do a separate bug report for this?

[Bug 1925529] Re: "ReleaseNotesViewer" does not display anything with the text view

2021-06-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package ubuntu-release-upgrader - 1:21.04.12

---
ubuntu-release-upgrader (1:21.04.12) hirsute; urgency=medium

  * DistUpgrade/DevelReleaseAnnouncement: remove warning regarding upgrading

DMI information which then can be used to block upgrades. (LP: #1929449)
  * DistUpgradeQuirks.py: If the system vendor is Apple do not allow release
upgrades to 21.04 for the time being. (LP: #1929449)
  * DistUpgradeFetcherCore.py: when upgrading with the text view display the
release announcement in the terminal. (LP: #1925529)
  * tests/test_dist_upgrade_fetcher_core.py: do not display the release
announcement during the test.
  * tests/test_sources_list.py: switch from precise to focal and precise was
removed from the archive.
  * Run pre-build.sh: updating mirrors, demotions, and translations.

[Bug 1921632] Re: build module CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SOUNDWIRE_SOF_MACH=m for 5.11, 5.13-rc2 and later

2021-06-02 Thread Eduard
Hi, I am lucky that I am reading the verification request now.

Yesterday I tried this one by manual dpkg-install:
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.13-rc4/amd64/

Was this build supposed to have the fix included as well? Because for me
sound still did not work.
