[Bug 1936175] Re: apt hook slows down apt - could this be asynchronous?
Something similar was done for checking for the latest Ubuntu release and updating the MOTD in LP:1836475. It switches the download part into a systemd timer (https://launchpadlibrarian.net/505544658/lp1836475-focal.debdiff). So maybe something similar here where the timer job checks existence and timestamp of a file and runs if it doesn't exist or is older than a certain period of time. Then the apt hook itself would remove that file forcing the systemd timer job to fire. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1936175 Title: apt hook slows down apt - could this be asynchronous? [Bug 1934902] Re: [SRU] ubuntu-advantage-tools (27.1 -> 27.2) Xenial, Bionic, Focal, Hirsute
** Description changed: [Impact] This release sports both bug-fixes and new features and we would like to make sure all of our supported customers have access to these improvements. The notable ones are: * Schema of `ua status --format=json` has been updated to include more information and better organize the information already present. * `yaml` is now a format option for `ua status` * `http_proxy` and `https_proxy` configuration fields were added - When set, `ua` will use the specified proxy. - When set, `ua` will configure snap (if installed) and livepatch (if enabled) to use the specified proxy * `apt_http_proxy` and `apt_https_proxy` configuration fields were added - When set, `ua` will configure apt to use the specified proxy * `ua refresh` now accepts optional sub commands: `ua refresh contract` and `ua refresh config`. `ua refresh contract` does what `ua refresh` used to do. `ua refresh config` re-processes the uaclient config file. `ua refresh` with no sub command does the equivalent of `ua refresh config && ua refresh contract`. * `ua config set key=val` is a new command that edits a key in uaclient's config file. * `ua config unset key` is a new command that removes the value of a key uaclient's config file * `ua config show` is a new command that shows the current value of uaclient config options. See the changelog entry below for a full list of changes and bugs. [Test Case] The following development and SRU process was followed: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuAdvantageToolsUpdates The ubuntu-advantage-tools team will be in charge of attaching the artifacts and console output of the appropriate run to the bug. ubuntu- advantage-tools team members will not mark ‘verification-done’ until this has happened. * Automated Test Results Attach or link the following automated integration test runs for ubuntu-advantage-tools on each affected LTS release: - lxd.container platform - lxd.kvm platform - AWS Ubuntu PRO - AWS Ubuntu cloud-images (non-Pro) - Azure Ubuntu PRO - Azure Ubuntu cloud-images (non-Pro) - GCP Ubuntu PRO - GCP Ubuntu cloud-images (non-Pro) + * Additional Manual tests: + - upgrade LTS -> LTS attached container + post-upgrade operations + - upgrade LTS -> LTS unattached container + post-upgrade operations + - package dependency validation verification for distro-info + + [Regression Potential] In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the aforementioned integration tests are attached to this bug. The changes most likely to produce an unexpected regression are the changes to the output of `ua status --format=json`. We had (and still have) a notice in the output that tools should _not_ rely on the structure of the output of this command; however, we know of at least one tool that does, and others may as well despite the warning. We have avoided changes that we know will break others, but it is possible that we broke some unknown integration. The behavior of `ua refresh` has slightly changed. It now processes the proxy configuration before refreshing the contract. Since the proxy configuration is also new with this release, it is unlikely that any existing use of `ua refresh` will start doing anything new, unless the user also adds the new proxy config fields. This update also changes the schema of some of our state that we keep in a json file. We're introducing a basic migration mechanism specifically to avoid anything breaking if the json file on disk is the old version. In the worst case if the migration script doesn't work, then running `ua status` with root privileges will overwrite the existing json file with the new version, which will resolve any problems. [Discussion] In this release, we're starting to lay the foundation for more proper schema versioning of `ua status` output. In the future when we need to change the output again, we plan to properly bump the schema version and implement a way to select the version the caller expects. At that time we will remove our warning from the output and start to guarantee version compatibility. [Bug 1936697] Re: Unlisted dependency
Hello Jessica, and thank you for your rapid response. Your explanation of the dependency situation with pbuilder and ubuntu-dev-tools is helpful. However, I don't understand why pbuilder itself is only suggested and not required by ubuntu-dev-tools. According to the Ubuntu Packaging Manual(https://packaging.ubuntu.com/html/getting-set- up.html#set-up-pbuilder), pbuilder is a necessary tool for the packaging process. I think that pbuilder, and by extension python3-distutils should both be required by ubuntu-dev-tools. [Bug 1936697] Re: Unlisted dependency
pbuilder-dist is a wrapper provided by ubuntu-dev-tools, not pbuilder itself. Moreover, ubuntu-dev-tools only Suggests: pbuilder, though at the same time python3-distutils is a pretty tiny package (that's also fairly useful) so adding that dependency as Recommends: rather than just Suggests: (to be clear, there isn't even a Suggests: currently) to try and ensure the wrapper works if you happen to have pbuilder installed might make sense. ** Package changed: pbuilder (Ubuntu) => ubuntu-dev-tools (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1936697 Title: Unlisted dependency To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-dev-tools/+bug/1936697/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1936697] [NEW] Unlisted dependency
Public bug reported: I am using pbuilder 0.231build1 on Ubuntu 21.04 Hirsute. I tried to run "pbuilder-dist hirsute create" and received this error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/pbuilder-dist", line 32, in import distutils.spawn ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'distutils.spawn' I tried it three more times and the same thing kept happening, so then I took a closer look at the error message, and decided to "apt search" for a Python distutils package in the repos. I found python3-distutils, and installed it, then I tried running pbuilder-dist again and it succeeded. Therefore, the fix for this bug is to add python3-distutils as a dependency of pbuilder. [Bug 1935901] Re: Braswell video locks up under gnome-shell
Hi, there's a crash report mentioned on this page: https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/241a8d330b8560e5d29b49b2d8df1a9340834364d1e9930a70caae16e29bf446d33032781384b132361e219d11002feddb39eb224ef4a8725b7f4651d988de57 but I don't have permission to follow the link to the actual crash report. I originally tried using this box with X11, but I could lock up the screen regularly. So I tried running under wayland, which seems to be more stable for this machine. The above crash report is from kodi- wayland. When I look at what's running, I see Xwayland, which I assume is wayland running with the x layer on top? When I log in after a restart (too many of them), I have gnome on wayland chosen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1935901 Title: Braswell video locks up under gnome-shell To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1935901/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1936682] [NEW] Fix kernel panic caused by legacy devices on AMD platforms
Public bug reported: [Impact] When a legacy device is only 32bit DMA capable and it's in the same IOMMU group with iommu_v2 capable devices, the device in question will be forced to use identity mapping and triggers kernel panic on DMA operation because it can't do 64bit DMA. [Fix] Keep swiotlb enabled so legacy devices can do 64bit DMA. This is also how Intel and ARM64 platforms deal with legacy devices. [Test] Boot an affected system. Kernel panic in Realtek WiFi driver's probe routine. After the patch is applied, the system can work normally. [Where problems could occur] The default swiotlb uses 64MB memory, so if the system doesn't have any legacy device, there are 64MB ram less for the system to use. ** Affects: hwe-next Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: Confirmed ** Affects: linux-oem-5.10 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Affects: linux-oem-5.13 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: Won't Fix ** Affects: linux-oem-5.10 (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: High Status: Confirmed ** Affects: linux-oem-5.13 (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: High Status: Confirmed ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Hirsute) Importance: High Status: Confirmed ** Affects: linux-oem-5.10 (Ubuntu Hirsute) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Affects: linux-oem-5.13 (Ubuntu Hirsute) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Impish) Importance: High Status: Confirmed ** Affects: linux-oem-5.10 (Ubuntu Impish) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Affects: linux-oem-5.13 (Ubuntu Impish) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Tags: oem-priority originate-from-1933798 stella ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Hirsute) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Impish) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Focal) Status: New => Won't Fix ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Hirsute) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Impish) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Hirsute) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Impish) Importance: Undecided => High ** Also affects: linux-oem-5.10 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: linux-oem-5.10 (Ubuntu Focal) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: linux-oem-5.10 (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: linux-oem-5.10 (Ubuntu Hirsute) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: linux-oem-5.10 (Ubuntu Impish) Status: New => Invalid ** Also affects: linux-oem-5.13 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: linux-oem-5.13 (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: linux-oem-5.13 (Ubuntu Focal) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: linux-oem-5.13 (Ubuntu Hirsute) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: linux-oem-5.13 (Ubuntu Impish) Status: New => Invalid ** Tags added: oem-priority originate-from-1933798 stella -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1936682 Title: Fix kernel panic caused by legacy devices on AMD platforms To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hwe-next/+bug/1936682/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1936669] Re: Software Update won't install version 21.04
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1936669/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
