2021-07-17 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial) reached end-of-life on April 29, 2021.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested
in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the
latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still
present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling
us which new version it is in.

(Ubuntu 16.04 has extended support [ESM], so if you're using Ubuntu
16.04 ESM support options may exist)

[Bug 1936727] Re: [SRU] MariaDB new release 10.3.30

2021-07-17 Thread Otto Kekäläinen
I have (as the Debian maintainer) produced updates for all maintained Ubuntu
versions for MariaDB:
- mariadb-10.3 in Focal
- mariadb-10.3 in Groovy

Security sponsors have this doc:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/PublicationNotes#Sponsoring_MariaDB_Security_Updates

The person doing the SRU can follow the same steps.

The 10.3 series update for 20.04 and 20.10 are now available.

Please use git-buildpackage to fetch and build from the ubuntu-20.04
branch at https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-
team/mariadb-10.3/tree/ubuntu-20.04 and ubuntu-20.10 branch at
https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-team/mariadb-10.3/tree/ubuntu-20.10

The repository uses pristine-tar, so there is no need to separately
download the sources. You can just check the signature/SHA1SUM directly
from the git-buildpackage generated tarball.

Test builds and testsuite passed on all platforms at
https://launchpad.net/~mysql-ubuntu/+archive/ubuntu/mariadb-10.3/+builds?build_text=_state=all
(Only Focal, the PPA ran out of disk space for Groovy builds to run)

Debdiffs can be created directly from the repo like in a local clone
with 'git diff .. debian/'

[Bug 1935082] Re: [MIR] egl-wayland

2021-07-17 Thread Kyle McKay
@michagogo thanks for your help. Additional info and subscription
added.

** Description changed:

+ MIR Template:
+
+ [Availability]
+ Already available in universe now for impish with the minimum required 1.1.7
version.
+
+ [Rationale]
+ The forthcoming nvidia 470 driver release will end up in restricted and will
suffer a performance penalty when used with Xwayland unless egl-wayland version
1.1.7 (or later) has also been installed.
+
+ [Security]
+ No search results found for CVS, oss-security.
+ No Ubuntu CVE results for egl-wayland or variations thereof.
+ The egl-wayland package installs a library with mode 0644 for use by the
nvidia egl driver.
+ While this does not seem to present security issues of its own, the library
will be loaded and used by the nvidia egl driver and may therefore share any
security concerns applicable to that driver.
+
+ [Quality assurance]
+ Once installed, use of egl-wayland by the nvidia egl driver is automatic, the
single configuration file
(/usr/share/egl/egl_external_platform.d/10_nvidia_wayland.json) installed by
the egl-wayland package makes that happen.
+ There is no configuration or other end user interaction. The package itself
does not have any UI of its own.
+ The current universe version of the package comes from the upstream Debian
package.
+ There is a debian/watch file present.
+
+ [Dependencies]
+ The required dependencies (libc6, libwayland-client, libwayland-server) are
already present in main.
+
+ [Standards compliance]
+ Appears to comply with both the FHS and Debian Policy standards. The
"/usr/share/egl/egl_external_platform.d/" directory is not specifically
mentioned by those standards, but that directory location is required by the
installed "10_nvidia_wayland.json" file in order for the nvidia egl driver to
load the library that the egl-wayland package installs.
+
+ [Maintenance]
+ The egl-wayland package is a small package with few dependencies that is
already being maintained upstream by Debian.
+ Since it only installs a library and a config file and does not have any of
its own UI, there are no i18n or l10n support issues.
+
+ [Background information]
+
The libnvidia-gl 470 drivers have not yet been officially released.

However, there is a 470.42.01 BETA available.

And Alberto Milone has been kind enough to provide an experimental
PPA build of the 470 BETA for testing:

https://launchpad.net/~albertomilone/+archive/ubuntu/nvidia-testing

The release notes for the 470 BETA discuss performance under xwayland
  here:

  Quoting from those release notes:

  > The following are necessary to enable accelerated rendering on
  > Xwayland with the NVIDIA driver:
  >
  > * DRM KMS must be enabled. See Chapter 35, Direct Rendering Manager
  > Kernel Modesetting (DRM KMS) for details.
  >
  > * The installed copy of Xwayland should be a build from the master
  > branch of https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver at least
  > as recent as commit c468d34c. Note that if this requirement is
  > not satisfied, the NVIDIA GPU can still be used for rendering,
  > however it will fall back to a suboptimal path for presentation
  > resulting in degraded performance.
  >
  > * libxcb version 1.13 or later must be present.
  >
  > * egl-wayland version 1.1.7 or later must be present (if installed
  > separately from the the NVIDIA driver).
  >
  > * If using the GNOME desktop environment, kms-modifiers must be
  > enabled through gsettings. This can be done with the following
  > command:
  > gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features [\"kms-modifiers\"]

The first item is easily accomplished with something like this:

  /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-drm.conf:
  options nvidia-drm modeset=1

For the second item, commit 763f4fb278 in the freedesktop.org xserver
repository cherry-picks commit c468d34c (and an associated, not
mentioned, but also required commit) and is first included in the
  xwayland-21.1.1.901 release on 2021-06-30.

For the third item it appears that libxcb version 1.13 or later has
been widely in use for some years now.

For the fourth item, egl-wayland version 1.1.7 was released from the
  upstream repository on 2021-05-11:

https://github.com/NVIDIA/egl-wayland/releases/tag/1.1.7

The fifth item, if needed, is easily accomplished via the "gsettings"
command mentioned in those release notes.

Which brings us to the point of this request.

The impish repositories for the forthcoming 21.10 release at this
point now include xwayland-21.1.1.901 and, with the kind assistance
of Timo Aaltonen, libnvidia-egl-wayland1 1.1.7 (including the i386
version to facilitate running the i386 version of libnvidia-gl for
  32-bit only apps on a 64-bit system).

In other words, impish is all ready to go for full "accelerated

Public bug reported:

When using the gnome desktop on 20.04.2 the desktop shows graphics artifacts
and the mouse moves horizontally on its own even when not touching mouse or
trackpad and no one is remotely in the system.
The device being used is a Lenovo thinkpad L380 Yoga.
I just installed Ubuntu on this system 2 weeks ago.

[Bug 1936729] Re: package python3-pil 7.0.0-4ubuntu0.4 failed to install/upgrade: new python3-pil:amd64 package pre-removal script subprocess returned error exit status 139

2021-07-17 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1936697] Re: Unlisted dependency

2021-07-17 Thread Computerworm01001
Hello Mattia, and thank you for clarifying the role pbuilder plays in
ubuntu-dev-tools. The page I linked above does not mention alternatives
to pbuilder; that is why I thought it was necessary.

Given that pbuilder is, in fact, optional, I think the solution Jessica
proposed (adding python3-distutils as a Recommends:) is a reasonable
one.

Kind regards,
Computerworm01001

[Bug 1936728] [NEW] missing ip v6 link local route by Network-Manager

2021-07-17 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I was analyzing, why all the Ubuntu 20.04 machines in my network can
operate at full ethernet speed over IPv4, but some are significantly
slower when using ipv6.

Short reason: Missing route by Network Manager

long reason description:

I'm using a FritzBox DOCSIS router (quit common in Germany), providing both
IPv4 and IPv6 internet.

The IPv6 prefix is assigned by the provider only dynamically and changes
from time to time. Since this makes internal firewalling difficult, I've
configured the Router use a second IPv6 network range, a unique local
address range (ULA), starting with fd..., standard practice for IPv6.

Thus the router advertises two ipv6 network prefixes, one official,
which is dynamically assigned by the provider (2a02::...) and one ULA
(fdfc:...), both a RA and for DHCP6 requests.

I found that the machines in my network deal differently with that.

Those Ubuntu 20.04 machines running Ubuntu Server and using netplan to
configure interfaces, do things correctly. They assign an autogenerated
IPv6-address for both ranges to the interfaces (lower 64 bit constructed from
mac address) and two routes for each prefix, one interface/link local route and
one to the router, e.g. (prefixes and addresses abbreviated for privacy reasons)

2a02:...::/64 dev eno1 proto ra metric 100 expires 6814sec pref medium
2a02:...::/64 via fe80::ROUTER dev eno1 proto ra metric 1024 expires 1414sec
pref medium
fdfc:...::/64 dev eno1 proto ra metric 100 expires 6814sec pref medium
fdfc:...::/64 via fe80::ROUTER dev eno1 proto ra metric 1024 expires 1414sec
pref medium
fe80::/64 dev eno1 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
default via fe80::ROUTER dev eno1 proto ra metric 100 expires 1414sec mtu 1500
pref medium
default via fe80::ROUTER dev eno1 proto ra metric 1024 expires 1414sec pref
medium

although the metric 1024 routes seem superfluous and useless, things
work well, since the metric 100 routes (without via) allow the machine
to directly communicate with each other, therefore fast (using the
switch).

On the other hand, those desktop machines running Lubuntu 20.04, thus
using Network-Manager to configure interfaces, do things wrong (i.e.
routes are missing, there's only via-routes for both prefixes)

2a02:...::/64 via fe80::ROUTER dev enp4s0 proto ra metric 100 pref medium
fdfc:...::/64 via fe80::ROUTER dev enp4s0 proto ra metric 100 pref medium
fe80::/64 dev enp4s0 proto kernel metric 100 pref medium
default via fe80::ROUTER dev enp4s0 proto ra metric 100 pref medium

as you can see, there is no route allowing the machine to directly
communicate with other hosts, except for the link local fe80 route.

Therefore, traffic between two machines in the LAN is not switched on
the switch, but routed on the router, and thus significantly slower
(although still working, that's why most people probably wouldn't
notice).

I've tried several settings in the ipv6 tab of the Networks Editor (edit
connections -> select wired connection -> IPv6 Settings), but neither could I
find a man page describing the Automatic Methods, nor did I find any effect
when changing them.

[Bug 1936727] [NEW] [SRU] MariaDB new release 10.3.30

2021-07-17 Thread Otto Kekäläinen
Public bug reported:

We currently have MariaDB 1:10.3.29-0ubuntu0.20.10.1 in Groovy and
1:10.3.29-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 in Focal, uploaded as security updates.

Package history: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mariadb-10.3

Unfortunately there was a bug compromising the results of some type of
queries (subqueries with group by). This is fixed in MariaDB 10.3.30 and
I proposed it to be uploaded as a stable release update in Ubuntu.

Upstream bug fixed: https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/MDEV-25714
Debian bug about same issue:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=990306

Ubuntu users have not reported the urgent need for this SRU, but some of
them are surely affected.

Re: [Bug 1934529] Re: Postfix package install always fails

2021-07-17 Thread Greg Wood
Thank you for your response.  Note that I am a total novice. However, I
did manage to find a log of a recent Software Updater that reported
"Package operation failed"  This always happens. Attached is the most
recent log file which shows that "postfix" returned an error code.  What
more info do you need about this? How do I fix it?  Thank you, Greg

[Bug 1936721] [NEW] [USB-Audio - Saffire 6 USB, playback] No sound at all - unable to play any audio, but it works after unplugging and plugging in the device

2021-07-17 Thread Michal Lašan

It sometimes happens, just like now, that I am unable to play any

[Bug 1936718] [NEW] login screen can be bypass

2021-07-17 Thread Enrico Dacougnia
Public bug reported:

on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
Hello,
I don't know if it's worth it, but you'll know.

from working on the graphic mode, if I go to the text terminal mode
using [Ctrl]+[alt]+[F3] login do some work or not, then want to go back
to graphic mode with [Ctrl]+[alt]+[F1].

Normally, I should be login to the graphic mode to go back, but if you
use [Ctrl]+[alt]+[F2] instead, it bypasses de login screen. Tried it
with both of my PC's, same thing.

I tried it on X11 and Wayland, same thing.

If we wait long enough to pass the preset time out of the graphic mode
when on text terminal , and try to come back to graphic, it disables the
bypass.

But, if you were listening a web radio on Firefox in between, the bypass
is still accessible way after the time out.

Have a nice day.

E. Dacougnia

[Bug 1926938] Re: Recent mainline packages are built with Hirsuite 21.04, not Focal 20.04 LTS

2021-07-17 Thread k3dar7
@DanglingPointer #55

"If you want to stay with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS with latest stable mainline,
you'll need to build it."

not true... if not have external kernel modules (ex. using dkms builded
module for VirtualBox, Nvidia, tlp, wifi driver for card not supported
by mainline, etc..) then only not install problematic linux-
headers-5.13.2-051302-generic package

in other case, is possible install it via "workaround"...

# only unpack without install/configure
dpkg --unpack
linux-headers-5.13.2-051302-generic_5.13.2-051302.202107141437_amd64.deb

in /usr/src/linux-headers-5.13.2-051302-generic/ replace this files:
"scripts/basic/fixdep tools/objtool/fixdep tools/bpf/resolve_btfids/fixdep
scripts/mod/modpost tools/objtool/objtool"
from: linux-headers-5.11.16-051116-generic_5.11.16-051116.202104211235_amd64.deb
(latest headers package version before switch to glibc 2.33)

# configure it with ignoring libc6 depends:
dpkg --configure --ignore-depends=libc6 linux-headers-5.13.2-051302-generic

# fake libc6 depend version in dpkg status file
sed "/Depends: linux-headers-5.13.2-051302, libc6/s/libc6 (>= 2...)/libc6 (>=
2.31)/" -i /var/lib/dpkg/status

i using this workaround with my own tool for installing "Ubuntu Mainline
Kernel" on all my Xubuntu 20.04 machines and without problem from
5.11.17 to latest 5.13.2 ;-)

[Bug 1863897] Re: Desktop link for Progressive Web Apps incorrect

2021-07-17 Thread Thomas Carlisle
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1732482 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1732482

This is not a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1863897

Because I am am seeing the same on Chrome -- not Chromium -- and my
Chrome was not installed via snap.

That said, playing with this a little, I found that right clicking on
the desktop icon there is an option "Allow Launch", and after clicking
that the PWA launches and works. But the icon still is not correct. The
PWA sets an appropriate icon in its manifest.

Not, the menu option "Allow Launch" is not the same as giving execute
permission. The installation of the PWA did set "Execute" permission.
The "allow launch" is a permission above and beyond file system
permissions.

[Bug 1936717] [NEW] Grub upgrade error (Ubuntu 18.04.05)

2021-07-17 Thread Dave
Public bug reported:

I have initially been trying to resolve this on the forums
(https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2461875) but have now been
advised to report here as a bug

I have two Ubuntu 18.04 servers in a remote location, a month or so ago
after running the normal "apt update" and "apt upgrade" commands I was
faced with the error shown in the attached document.

After further reading I ran the command sudo grub-install --efi-
directory=/boot/efi --target=x86_64-efi --no-nvram and it says
"Installation Finished. No error reported." however anytime I run apt
for anything it tries again to install grub-efi-amd64 / grub-efi-
amd64-signed and results in the same error.

Here is output from the df command

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
udev 16G 0 16G 0% /dev
tmpfs 3.2G 952K 3.2G 1% /run
/dev/md4 29T 29T 117G 100% /
tmpfs16G 16K 16G 1% /dev/shm
tmpfs 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock
tmpfs16G 0 16G 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
/dev/md2477M 169M 279M 38% /boot
/dev/md1300M 3.3M 297M 2% /boot/efi
tmpfs 3.2G 0 3.2G 0% /run/user/1000

I have not risked rebooting the machines so I do not know if the above command
is actually leaving the machine in a bootable state or not.

[Bug 1732482] Re: [snap] doesn't properly save desktop files for "create shortcuts" action

2021-07-17 Thread Thomas Carlisle
Just quite bit of input. I landed here because of the same issue on
Chrome -- not Chromium. Well, my searching first landed me correctly on
a bug filed under "Chrome Browser", and that bug was shut down because
it was determined a duplicate of this one. And early in this thread it
was put to the snap team -- yet what I am seeing is on Chrome and Chrome
wasn't uninstalled via snap package.

So no, this was not a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1863897

And this may not have anything to do with snap, and hence why they are
not really taking it and doing much.

[Bug 1936716] [NEW] video glitch

2021-07-17 Thread Thomas
Public bug reported:

There was a glitch as I was watching a youtube video that imprinted a
still image on the screen with transparent vertical stripes. Restarted
the computer and the same image was imprinted behind the GRUB boot-
loader menu during start up. Unusual behavior that continued 2-3 times
after resets including removing all power sources for a while before
restarting.

[Bug 1936692] Re: ubuntu 20.04 crasch during instal 3party drivers on lenovo w540

2021-07-17 Thread Pawel Wtorek
bug description:

I tried to install ubuntu 20.04 LTS from usb (twice).
Install configuration: lvm partition with pass, check box for install updates
from net, check box to install third party drivers.

When installation started it was ok and about 10 min showed some screens during
install. And before finish he display me box with information that my
installation crashed without any error details and he sad that redirect me to
desktop and open for me firefox with this site to open error ticket.
I did not receive any error details.

After that i try install third time and uncheck box about third party drivers -
and then installation was correct.
So now above you have apport-collect report after my third correct installation.

But for sure ubuntu have some problem with my hardware and third party
drivers.

regards

[Bug 1936715] [NEW] cross building glibc for powerpc and s390x produces empty libc6-dbg package

2021-07-17 Thread Matthias Klose
Public bug reported:

cross building glibc for powerpc and s390x produces an empty libc6-dbg
package. Seen with a glibc 2.34 snapshot, and cross-toolchain-base.
However it should be possible to see this with just a cross build
targeting powerpc or s390x.

[Bug 1936708] [NEW] Wobbly graphics on built-in display since linux-image-5.11.0-22-generic

2021-07-17 Thread alex dekker
Public bug reported:

Lenovo laptop with Intel + Nvidia graphics.

Since booting from linux-image-5.11.0-22-generic, the built-in display is
unusable, with wobbling horizontal stripes from the disk decryption prompt
onwards:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyRTuPzCe2I
HDMI output works fine.

If I boot from linux-image-5.11.0-18-generic instead, all is well.
If I use Recovery mode and continue bootup, it's usable but there's no HDMI
output.

I think others may be having this issue too:

[Bug 1018020]

2021-07-17 Thread psychonaut
Still reproducible for me with a Logitech C270 and kernel-
default-5.13.0-1.2.x86_64 on openSUSE Tumbleweed.

A thread on the Microsoft support forum at
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_apps-
insider_video/logitech-c270-audio-
problem/f3cca299-5b3d-42ff-8471-b77520f1a9f4?auth=1 shows that Windows
users are also affected, so this is probably a bug in the webcam
hardware/firmware itself. Still, it would be nice if there were some
kernel-level workaround.

[Bug 1018020]

2021-07-17 Thread iq2luc
Still happening with my Logitech C310 (046d:081b) on 5.9.9.
When the issue is happening, a recording with "arecord -d3 test.wav" takes
about 11 seconds instead of 3 and playing back the recorded file gives the
high-pitched / chipmunk sound mentioned above.

[ 4496.787827] usb 1-6: new high-speed USB device number 19 using ehci-pci
[ 4497.153865] usb 1-6: New USB device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=081b,

[ 4497.153867] usb 1-6: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=2

[ 4498.436241] usb 1-6: set resolution quirk: cval->res = 384

Disconnecting or reconnecting the device (sometimes several times) or
resetting the usb device fixes the issue eventually.

[Bug 1936669] Re: Software Update won't install version 21.04

2021-07-17 Thread Tony Pursell
Thanks for your message Brian.

do-release-upgrade reports:

Checking for a new Ubuntu release
Please install all available updates for your release before upgrading.

Then returns to the prompt.

If I then run

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get dist-upgrade

I get nothing except the message that dh-python is being kept back.
