[Bug 1940262] Re: The modalias in 470 is not compatible to 460

2021-08-26 Thread Yao Wei
I would like to propose fix to nvidia_supported script that parses
README.txt.

On the line with RTX A5000, there are 2 spaces after the PCI IDs.
Current nvidia_supported script assumes there are at least 3 spaces
before VDPAU features column, which is not the case in this line.

My proposal of parsing this list is to use offset to get the column of
Device PCI ID, and get 1-3 hex strings after the offset.

[Bug 1941829] [NEW] ubunut_kernel_selftests: memory-hotplug: avoid spamming logs with dump_page()

2021-08-26 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
The memory-hotplug test has been intermittently timing out (or trashing the test
VM, see below) on Impish/Hirsute ppc64el and x86-64 for quite some time now.

While the offline memory test obey ratio limit, the same test with
error injection does not and tries to offline all the hotpluggable
memory, spamming system logs with hundreds of thousands of dump_page()
entries, slowing system down (to the point the test itself timesout and
gets terminated) and excessive fs occupation:

[Fix]
* 0c0f6299ba71fa selftests: memory-hotplug: avoid spamming logs with
dump_page(), ratio limit hot-remove error test

[Test Plan]
Run the memory-hotplug test, this log spamming issue should not happen again.

[Where problems could occur]
If this fix is incorrect we might be unable to catch some other issue.

And can you paste the kernel panic here? Doing `journalctl -k -b -1 >

helpful. Thanks

@Michael and Robert,

All patches were sent to the ubuntu kernel maillist to review, and
please wait for the formal 5.11.0-generic kernel of the next cycle.

@Robert,

All patches were backported from sofproject or upstream kernel, and
maybe the kconfig is not same when building the sof kernel and ubuntu
kernel. The patches were also sent to ubuntu 5.13 and 5.14 kernel,
please wait for those kernels of next cycle (please watch the impish

2021-08-26 Thread Chris Chiu
The dmesg of 5.13 kept showing the error as follow
août 26 11:18:46 syncom kernel: Workqueue: kacpid acpi_os_execute_deferred
août 26 11:18:46 syncom kernel: RIP: 0010:acpi_ds_exec_end_op+0x182/0x779

But it didn't show in kernel 5.11. That's pretty confusing to me. I may
need more ACPI debug message for it. Before doing that, can you test
the following kernels for me so that I can narrow down the range of
culprit.Thanks

[Bug 1505584] Re: [Realtek ALC887-VD] Playback only through 2 channels by default

2021-08-26 Thread Joachim R.
I have a worse bug : after setting alsamixer to 6ch and restarting pulseaudio,
I have no rear sound and no dialog in 5.1 application (I select a 5.1 profile
in pulseaudio
+ the sound section in Ubuntu setting pannel is unable to test the speakers
(they remain silent while the system sound can actually be played in other
manner).
This occurs at least in Ubuntu 20.04 and 21.04

[Bug 1940532] Re: [impish live session] gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in libX11.so.6.4.0

2021-08-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks again. That confirms the crash happens only in the live session
on:

  gnome-shell --sm-disable --mode=ubiquity

but it also confirms the crash is unreportable because "Invalid core
dump". Apparently the expected core file size is about 400MB but only
8MB is found. I wonder if you waited long enough after the crash the
whole file might be written to /tmp/ ...

Ubuntu bug. Does the same problem happen with the official Ubuntu
kernel?

[Bug 1940635] Re: systemd-networkd failing to acquire a DHCP6 lease from dnsmasq on armhf

2021-08-26 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
We must build armhf glibc which is y2038 safe, like our v5.1+ kernels
are (bionic-hwe and up). Thus yes, glibc should assume TIME64 SYSCALLS,
on armhf.

Also, maybe our farm can move to focal and focal kernel; or like at
least to bionic-hwe kernel.

[Bug 1937070] Re: please RM stylish-haskell binaries on arm64, armhf, riscv64 and s390x

2021-08-26 Thread Steve Langasek
It seems correct to remove the binaries on riscv64 and s390x, because
stylish-haskell 0.12.2.0-1 is in Debian testing without binaries for
these architectures. But Debian has arm64 and armhf built; why is it
correct to remove these binaries, rather than fixing the build failure
in Ubuntu?

[Bug 1939875] Re: Please remove src:gauche-gtk from Ubuntu (Impish)

2021-08-26 Thread Steve Langasek
The other packages do not have release critical bugs in Debian, have not
been removed from testing, and are not reported to fail to build from
source in Ubuntu. They therefore don't meet the criteria for removal
and blacklisting in Ubuntu. As long as they are maintainable, we keep
them in the event that someone finds them useful.

Actually it appears that one usb device was the source of the problem.
It's not a common USB device so it's not likely worth fixing.

[Bug 1940635] Re: systemd-networkd failing to acquire a DHCP6 lease from dnsmasq on armhf

2021-08-26 Thread Dan Streetman
A quick guess would be the problem is glibc upstream commit
13c51549e2077f2f3bf84e8fd0b46d8b0c615912, combined with upstream commit
a26918cfda4bc4b9dad8aae1496e3ef7cbb63d96 setting
__ASSUME_TIME64_SYSCALLS based on the *build* time kernel (not runtime
kernel), and since our build farm runs a kernel older than 5.1,
__ASSUME_TIME64_SYSCALLS remains unset for armhf. For all our other
archs, __WORDSIZE == 64 I think, so only armhf would be affected.

Haven't looked very deep at what a proper fix would be though.

[Bug 1939177] Re: Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS kernel 5.11.0-25 zfs send | receive broken

2021-08-26 Thread Brian Murray
Hello TimK., or anyone else affected,

Accepted zfs-linux into focal-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zfs-
linux/0.8.3-1ubuntu12.13 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1940635] Re: systemd-networkd failing to acquire a DHCP6 lease from dnsmasq on armhf

2021-08-26 Thread Simon Chopin
I can now confirm that the bug has been introduced strictly by the glibc
2.34, and not another package in the -proposed pocket.

My reproduction steps were as following:

Boot an Ubuntu Impish qemu VM (fully up-to-date (funnily enough, far
from being a trivial thing to do, see at the bottom for pointers).

In the VM, install the dpkg-dev and dnsmasq-base packages, get the
systemd sources, go into the test subdirectory of the sources, and run
the following command:

sudo python3 networkd-test.py DnsmasqClientTest.test_coldplug_dhcp_ip6

It should succeed (it has, in my case).

Then enable the -proposed pocket in the APT sources, with APT
preferences looking like so

Package: *
Pin: release a=impish-proposed
Pin-Priority: 50

Finally, update *only* the glibc:

sudo apt install -t impish-proposed libc6

Reboot the VM, go into the test directory, and run the same python3
command as above. It now fails.

To revert to the previous state of the VM (if you haven't made a
snapshot), simply use an apt preference > 1000 for the a=impish
packages, the resolver will downgrade every package.

I captured straces for both debug runs for the networkd daemon, I'll
attach them to the post. For reference, to get them, I changed the
ExecStart line in /lib/systemd/system/systemd-networkd.service to

ExecStart=sh -c "strace -o /tmp/networkd.strace -p  & exec
/lib/systemd/systemd-networkd"

, added this line

ReadWritePaths=/tmp

and added CAP_SYS_PTRACE to the AmbiantCapabilties and
CapabilitiesBoundingSet lines.

How I finally managed to get a VM up and running:

* used `autopkgtest-buildvm-ubuntu-cloud -v -r impish --arch armhf` using
autopkgtest git master
-> This gave me an image with credentials and disk space
* Used `mount-image-callback my.img --mountpoint /mnt -- cp -L
/mnt/boot/vmlinuz /mnt/boot/initrd.img` to extract the kernel and initrd
-> couldn't figure out how to use a proper bootloader, so direct kernel boot
* use virtio for the img, and add root=/dev/vda1 as a kernel argument when
launching qemu.

[Bug 1084236] Re: Pinta eats-up all metadata after saving JPEG file

2021-08-26 Thread Yamin Bismilla
Defintely agree on automating this.
It's always a challenge decided which library to choose.
I would hope that is a .NET one which would make it easy for portability.

A quick google came up with this:

[Bug 1941793] [NEW] Ubuntu linux-base is missing /boot/vmlinu[xz]-* match

2021-08-26 Thread Jan Kiszka
Public bug reported:

Please merge https://salsa.debian.org/kernel-team/linux-
base/-/commit/1ed6758e3c3f4ee21a8988d2cd83637ede095892 into Ubuntu's
linux-base package. It allows recognizing custom kernels (as often
needed for embedded scenarios) that are uncompressed, thus prefixed
vmlinux-.

See also https://github.com/siemens/meta-iot2050/issues/161 for the
background.

[Bug 1941791] [NEW] FTBFS on ppc64el with go 1.16

2021-08-26 Thread Dan Bungert
Public bug reported:

Currently, this package will FTBFS on ppc64 when building with go 1.16.
This looks as follows:
go build fmt: /usr/lib/go-1.16/pkg/tool/linux_ppc64le/compile: signal:
segmentation fault (core dumped)

Sample log: https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-
impish/impish/ppc64el/a/alertmanager-irc-
relay/20210819_040524_dc3cc@/log.gz

The failing package seems inconsistent - other packages I've seen fail
include 'net' and 'runtime' and 'github.com/prometheus/common/model'.

go 1.17 seems to not segfault on this compile step, based on the binary
release at https://golang.org/dl/go1.17.linux-ppc64le.tar.gz

In terms of shim-signed and grub, the bug is the same. If you think
this is a separate bug, then please assign it away from shim-signed to
where you think the bug lies, because from a shim-signed perspective it
is the same bug.
