[Bug 1928138] Re: Flickering on built-in display (Intel Haswell graphics) since kernel v4.1 [bisected and workaround attached]

2021-09-16 Thread xalt7x
I guess you have some different issue. In my case HP Folio 1040 G1 had this
that problem since kernel 4.1 and it was never fixed. But still you can analyze
dmesg for anything suspicious (maybe try it with different kernels)
Here's a command to output information into dmesg.log in your home folder.
sudo dmesg > ~/dmesg.log

[Bug 1943847] Re: virsh migrate with LVM volume as disk fails

2021-09-16 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
there is kind of a minefield of non-supported configuration options around this
so we might first need to clarify what exactly you use to get an idea -
depending on that we have to then search for a breaking change or fix OR otoh
might just report/discuss a feature request upstream.

Saying "created as volume in LVM group" really isn't uniqe.
Could be either of:
1. LVM "group" manually set up and using /dev/mapper/foo or such in the guest
XML
2. LVM pool managed by libvirt
3. LVM volumes, but actually with FS and image files on it and those used in
the guest XML
4. As above but with or without shared storage of some kind, if so which
5. the exact type of LVM configuration - is it a LUN or a block device for the
libvirt/qemu config?
...

In summary, please describe in detail the setup of your LVM, your
(potentially cross system) storage and the guest configuration (I
recommend adding a guest XML of the good and the bad case).

Furthermore you didn't post the exact error message, there are more than one
way migrations can fail, so it will be useful to see Command+ConsoleOutput+Log.
About the Log please consider on sending and receiving end to enable libvirt
debug [1] - attach both logs and tell us here a timestamp when the migration
was tried (the log is rather noisy and a timestamp helps to find things).

And finally is this something that worked in former versions and now got
broken by an update or is this just you wondering that in this
combination it doesn't work?

[Bug 1847611] Re: please remove prelink from focal

2021-09-16 Thread Steve Langasek
prelink provides execstack, which is a build-dependency of the nvidia-
graphics-drivers source packages. For removal of the prelink source
package, this would require negotiation with the maintainer of the
nvidia packages to drop that dependency.

The prelink binary package could be dropped by any Ubuntu uploader by
changing the source package to only generate the execstack package and
not the prelink package.

Using nvme hardware that uses swiotlb in confidential VMs can encounter
hardware read/write errors.

[Fix]

The following upstream patches address this:

3d2d861eb03e nvme-pci: set min_align_mask
1f221a0d0dbf swiotlb: respect min_align_mask
16fc3cef33a0 swiotlb: don't modify orig_addr in swiotlb_tbl_sync_single

b5d7ccb7aac3 swiotlb: add a IO_TLB_SIZE define

[Test]

Using a confidential VM, with 'swiotlb=force' set on the kernel command
line, and an additional swiotlb nvme device attached:

$ sudo mkfs.xfs -f /dev/nvme2n1
meta-data=/dev/nvme2n1   isize=512agcount=4, agsize=131072 blks

[Bug 1749393] Re: sbrk() not working under qemu-user with a PIE-compiled binary?

2021-09-16 Thread Sebastian Unger
I'm running qemu-arm version 4.2.1 (Debian 1:4.2-3ubuntu6.17) on Ubuntu
20.04.03, but I seem to still be affected by this (or something very
much like it). In my case it is armhf exim4 crashing while creating a
chroot on an amd64 host. The final command run from deeply within
exim4's postinst is:

/usr/sbin/exim4 -C /var/lib/exim4/config.autogenerated.tmp -bV

and produces

Interestingly, even

/usr/sbin/exim4 -C /dev/null -bV

produces the same result, so it likely doesn't depend on any
configuration at my end and should be reproducible.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help debug further.

Should I create a separate ticket?

[Bug 1943898] [NEW] docker.io modifies routing rules in a way which breaks LXD bridge

2021-09-16 Thread Paul Goins
Public bug reported:

I was trying to bootstrap a Juju controller on LXD. Unfortunately, this
never finished, and upon further investigation, I found that none of my
LXD containers could reach the Internet via the configured bridge,
lxdbr0.

This was working previously, but recently I installed docker.io.

I stopped and/or removed other components which were installing routing
rules, e.g. microk8s and multipass, but nothing resolved the problem
until I removed docker.io and restarted my computer.

Long story short, I traced down the reason why this wasn't working to a
routing rule. I dumped my iptables rules while docker.io was
uninstalled and things were working, and then dumped again after I
installed docker.io and rebooted. (The reboot was necessary; things
still worked after installing docker.io, but stopped working after
reboot.)

Here is the key diff that I saw:

[...]
 + sudo iptables -tfilter -S
 -P INPUT ACCEPT
--P FORWARD ACCEPT
+-P FORWARD DROP
[...]

I could manually run "sudo iptables -tfilter -P FORWARD ACCEPT" to make
things work again. (Obviously that may not be the best workaround for
security reasons, but LXD doesn't seem to install rules sufficient for
routing to still work after docker.io makes this change.)

I'll leave it up to you whether this is a docker.io bug or an lxd bug,
but it was installation of docker.io which triggered the situation for
me.

Relevant information:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Release:20.04

$ apt-cache policy docker.io | head -n2
docker.io:
  Installed: 20.10.7-0ubuntu1~20.04.1

Expected behavior: being able to use LXDs like normal without loss of
Internet connectivity after installing docker.io package.

What happened instead: lost Internet connectivity due to change in
filter table's -P FORWARD rule.

Best Regards,
Paul Goins

[Bug 1942684] Re: Kernel 5.14.X / 5.13.14 fails to boot

2021-09-16 Thread Rocko
I also can't boot the mainline 5.14-4 or 5.14-5 kernels on a Lenovo S7
(AMD 5800H and NVIDIA GPU) - it goes to a blank screen when trying to
boot graphics and freezes - I can't open a tty and have to hard reset
the system.

It looks like I have the laptop in the same mode as the other posters,
ie hybrid/dynamic graphics mode using the amdgpu driver for the laptop
screen.

I can't see any relevant errors in the output "journalctl -b -1" for the
failed boot - I think the hang occurs before it has a chance to log
them.

However, when booting the stock Ubuntu 21.10 5.13.0-16 kernel I do see
some nvidia_drm RIP errors in the log in nv_drm_master_set(). Presumably
these errors in combination with CONFIG_UBSAN_TRAP are causing the hang?
The documentation says that in order to save around 5% of the kernel
size, CONFIG_UBSAN_TRAP "reduces the kernel size overhead but turns all
warnings (including potentially harmless conditions) into full
exceptions that abort the running kernel code (regardless of context,
locks held, etc), which may destabilize the system." It seems like a
pretty aggressive config option to set!

[Bug 1942603] Re: ubiquity - manual partitioning; edit partition & cannot select/do anything

2021-09-16 Thread Chris Guiver
@mwhudson

I DON't BELIEVE SO

(most of my QA-testing is with Lubuntu/calamares and I haven't
experienced it there. Most installs are all disk, with 20.04.3 I did
install-alongside/auto-resize with xubuntu & kubuntu (those were QA-
tests on iso.qa.ubu.com needing to be done) meaning a number of
partitions existed; this install was to just re-use one of those created
partitions. That is a somewhat common install practice by me; but it's
been rare that I've done it with `ubiquity` in recent cycles.

I'll endeavor to do some more testing with `ubiquity` (Ubuntu or
Xubuntu) but that maybe a few days

(as stated this box isn't a fan of GNOME/KDE (nouveau); and maybe the
graphic issues reared up & the window thus wasn't being updated? however
the `dmesg` output I uploaded isn't filled with endless errors as occurs
when issues with graphics occur)

[Bug 1932579] Re: snap pt_BR locale shows warning every time

2021-09-16 Thread Fábio Blanco
@jrom, the condition didn't changed. This commit you pointed was released in
snapd version 2.51
You can see it here:
https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/compare/2.50.1...2.51

If you compare the release 2.51 with the latest release 2.52:
https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/compare/2.51...2.52

...you will see that there is no significant change in this
`cmd/snap/main.go` file. They just changed some lines positions but the
content is the same.

The fact that the locale "pt_BR" is not on the code, means nothing since
this is replaced in runtime in the variable "%q".

The bug may be in the translation in the `language-pack-pt-base` package
itself.

Comment #19 seems to have a bunch of:

which can also be seen in the log of comment #17. And that message
relates to:

  Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8822CE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless
Network Adapter

It's unclear to me whether that card is causing the problems or just a
victim of some deeper bus/motherboard issue.

golang-1.17 packages and (separately) in the kernel in impish-proposed.
So I think this is in hand :)

[Bug 1927948] Re: Windows switch monitor after resuming from sleep

2021-09-16 Thread Nicholas Klopfer-Webber
Its a shame a new issue was created for this. The problem has been
around for over 7 years and by creating a new ticket it looses just how
many people this affects.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1295267

In my case, I have 3 monitors connected to a Dell Latitude laptop. One of the
monitors seems to take longer to wake up than the others. As stated by others,
this delay causes some windows to move from one to another. Chrome's windows
are stable, but they implemented everything them selves so we can exclude them.
 Gnome terminals, Remmina windows, KeePassX all move around.
It is related to the slow monitor issue because Gnome terminals often get
resized which indicates they have been migrated to another windows and squished
to fit the smaller resolution.

Maybe a fix would be to allow a delay to be set between waking up the
screen and when they appear so we don't trigger the shuffling of
windows. However really the issue is they are not being restored back
to their original position after monitor plug events.

[Bug 1932579] Re: snap pt_BR locale shows warning every time

2021-09-16 Thread Fábio Blanco
@kmiksi, actually, I think that your proposed workaround enhanced the problem.
The error messages from my previous post started to show up after I've run the
sed command you've proposed and I think this happened because the file
`snappy.mo` is a binary not an ascii text file. I have reverted my changes by
running:

```
sudo apt --reinstall install language-pack-pt-base
```

And now I have only the original error message:

```
$ snap --help
2021/09/16 21:43:52.882927 main.go:176: description of prepare-image's
"" is lowercase in locale "pt_BR": "o directório de destino"
O comando snap permite instalar, configurar, atualizar e remover snaps.
[Bug 1932579] Re: snap pt_BR locale shows warning every time
2021-09-16 Thread Junior Martins
What is your output of "apt-cache policy snapd" and what version of
snapd is shown by "snap list"?
I checked their GitHub page, and at
the description is different from comment #4 since it also includes "in
locale "pt_BR"", which itself was changed fairly recently on May 18,
2021 with the commit
The conditional expression itself didn't change though, so I think the
bug itself should be before that or was created after it in the
translation sources (I don't know how/where to check them though, any
help is greatly appreciated)
[Bug 1943288] Re: Soname change and transition started without a ffe
2021-09-16 Thread Steve Langasek
Matthias has communicated out of band that the regressions were not due
to new features in the upstream code, but due to a misconfiguration of
the build.  That has now been addressed, and with my release team hat I
don't see any further cause for concern.
The feature freeze is meant to ensure review of new features, not just
of all new upstream code.  I don't see any evidence that there are new
features here. (exec-static-tramp may be a new feature, but it has now
been - correctly - disabled in the build.)
I've made a fresh install with Ubuntu 20.04.3 and I'm facing this problem too.
put in practice since I don't now how many instances of translation are
Every time I run a snap command, and not just on auto-completion, I receive
lots of error messages.
[Bug 1943475] Re: FTBFS with Go 1.17
2021-09-16 Thread William Wilson
The previous update went poorly, as my update to fix building with 1.17
broke building with 1.16. This new version deviates from upstream by
adding build tags, that could potentially be removed when 1.16 is
deprecated.
[Bug 1943853] Re: Recent update DELETED SNAP PROGRAMS
2021-09-16 Thread Marcos Chirinos
Oh so snap and snapd are different things.  In that case here is the ~$
apt-cache policy snapd
snapd:
  Installed: 2.51.1+21.04
  Candidate: 2.51.1+21.04
  Version table:
 *** 2.51.1+21.04 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-updates/main amd64
Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.49.2+21.04ubuntu1 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute/main amd64 Packages
___
When I run the bug reporter on snapd it does say I have 2 versions
installed.
 - snapd 2.51.4 {latest/stable} snap
 - snapd 2.51.1+21.04 deb package
The first doesn't allow a bug report but gives link to snapcraft forum
The second, I will post screen shots rather than mess someting up typing
it out.
[Bug 1943288] Re: Soname change and transition started without a ffe
2021-09-16 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Sorry but no, the reason this bug was opened is that the upload is a
feature freeze break, Steve you wrote yourself in comment #3 that it
needed to be reviewed in that regard. The question on whether this
upload deserves an exception hasn't been answered by the release team.
And if the outcome is 'yes because the uploaders pushed ahead meanwhile
and it's easier to finish than revert now' that would be pretty
disappointing from a project perspective since it just sends the message
that 'if you want to break a freeze, just don't ask for permission but
keep going with uploads', at which point we should probably just remove
the freezes
[Bug 1943883] [NEW] entering grub and getting to the grub command prompt should not be the same key
2021-09-16 Thread Goddard
Public bug reported:
When you need to see the grub menu you press ESC.
Once you are at the grub menu pressing ESC puts you into the grub
command prompt.
This is a horrible user experience and often lands users directly into
the grub command prompt with no idea how to get back to the grub menu.
Look how popular this question is -
This should really be changed.
[Bug 1943817] Re: Realtek 8852 wifi kernel module is missing
2021-09-16 Thread Francois Thirioux
** Description changed:
  Hi,
  Just got a Thinkpad with Realtek 8852a wifi card. I installed Impish daily
(kernel 5.13).
  Not recognized.
- The driver is natively present in firmware folder, /rtw89/rtw8852a_fw.bin .
+ The firmware is natively present in firmware folder, /rtw89/rtw8852a_fw.bin .
  But the kernel module is not loaded and in fact no module is loadable!
  sudo modprobe rtw8[completion] does not return this wifi card's module.
  So I did run for:
  https://github.com/lwfinger/rtw89
  and it does work but needs to be done for each kernel upgrade...
  Note that Bluetooth was natively ok.
  I tried 5.14 Ubuntu kernel from unstable ppa but same issue.
