[Bug 1944060] Re: Black Screen after Session Unlock from Suspend

2021-09-18 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1944060/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1943469] Re: [Asus X541NC] wakes up from sleep mode after 1 second

2021-09-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. That seems to show only internal components (PCIe) and the USB
3.0 controller can wake the machine up. Please try disabling each of
them separately:

  sudo sh -c 'echo XHC > /proc/acpi/wakeup'
  sudo sh -c 'echo RP01 > /proc/acpi/wakeup'
  sudo sh -c 'echo RP03 > /proc/acpi/wakeup'
  sudo sh -c 'echo RP04 > /proc/acpi/wakeup'

If none of those work then the next step would be to see if the nouveau
driver is causing the issue. I would recommend trying the official
Nvidia driver instead, which you can enable by the 'Additional Drivers'
app or:

  sudo apt install nvidia-driver-430

[Bug 1944060] [NEW] Black Screen after Session Unlock from Suspend

2021-09-18 Thread Matthew Wendel
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Release: Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Installation Style: Minimal (selected during GUI install) (Untested against
full installation style)
Patient System Hardware Information: Lenovo ThinkPad P50 (Xenon) - Intel HD
Graphics + NVIDIA Quadro M2000M (NVIDIA Prime enabled w/proprietary drivers)
(GPU is not suspected to be the issue)

Expected Behavior:
1) Suspend the system into sleep mode. 2) Awake the system to be greeted by
lock screen. 3) Type in password, press enter. 4)GNOME validates password
successfully. 5) Resume user desktop session.

Actual Behavior:
1) Suspend the system into sleep mode. 2) Awake the system to be greeted by
lock screen. 3) Type in password, press enter. 4)GNOME validates password
successfully. 5) GNOME lock screen freezes - spinner stops moving but mouse
cursor and keyboard are responsive (can switch TTYs). After GNOME lock screen
freeze, if you switch out of TTY2 (default for GUI), and back into it, a black
screen is shown. If you attempt to login via TTY1, you are switched to the
black screen session in TTY2.

Solution / Workaround:
This behavior can be avoided by installing the "gnome-scrensaver" package.
Something in this package is required by GNOME in order to successfully resume
this system from suspend, even though no screen saver settings were configured
after installing it.

[Bug 1726856] Re: ufw does not start automatically at boot

2021-09-18 Thread Jamie Strandboge
@Fabian - your change both makes the firewall start after networking,
brings python into the boot process (which can slow down boot) and
changes the intent of 'systemctl stop ufw' from unloading the firewall
to disabling the firewall in the moment and forever in the future, which
is inappropriate ('systemctl stop' is supposed to stop the service until
someone runs 'systemctl start' again or reboot. 'systemctl disable' is
meant to prevent the service from starting on reboot. This might be fine
for your system, but it would not be appropriate as a default in ufw or
distributions. Also, this bug is in upstream ufw and you are reporting
an issue on Raspbian, who would supply the packaging for ufw. If you
still feel the change should be made, I suggest filing a bug with
Raspbian so they can change their packaging of ufw.

[Bug 1934931] Re: (X)ubuntu 20.04: GUFW and MS-Teams slow down traffic intermittently

2021-09-18 Thread Jamie Strandboge
It is unclear from the description that this has anything to do with
networking. Are there any firewall denials in the logs (eg,
/var/log/ufw.log or /var/log/kern.log)? If you disable ufw (sudo ufw
disable) does the problem go away?

As an aside, IIRC, MS-Teams is not a lightweight application and I
suspect this could be memory consumption unrelated to the firewall.

[Bug 1898696] Re: add some deliminiter between ipv4 and ipv6 in ufw status

2021-09-18 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thanks you for the report. It is difficult to convey ipv4 vs ipv6 vs
both in list form and currently ufw lists any ipv6 rules with '(v6)' as
part of the To and From (as seen in your paste). It isn't clear to me
how adding an 'IPv6' break would improve this... I'm going to mark this
as wishlist while I think about it.

Regarding the side note, the person who posted the question was unaware
of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ufw/+bug/1880453 which speaks to future
support (it isn't needed as ufw will use the nft backend if the system
is configured to do so).

[Bug 1938978] Re: nvidia-340 kernel module failed to build (ERROR: Kernel configuration is invalid)

2021-09-18 Thread Sumit Bhattacharyya
I'm also affected by this bug. I've activated grub and still boot with the
5.8.0 kernel - this works without problems. On the other hand, I'm not
performing any updates now. I had the same problem when the 20.04.1 version was
created - the bug was fixed shortly after. This time it seems to take
significantly longer even though the reason is probably the same. I hope for an
official bug fix, otherwise I will try out Butterfly's solution:
https://launchpad.net/~kelebek333/+archive/ubuntu/nvidia-legacy
But this recurring situation is not really satisfying!

[Bug 1870813] Re: Scilab does not start on bionic and focal

2021-09-18 Thread Norbert
Tested both Scilab packages from proposed:

6.0.1-7ubuntu1~18.04.2 ← bionic
6.1.0+dfsg1-1ubuntu3.1 ← focal

Scilab now starts normally, thank you!

[Bug 1911637] Re: Another app is currently holding the xtables lock

2021-09-18 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Actually, in thinking about this, ufw could use 'iptables -w' under the
hood. I recall having troubles with this approach when providing the fix
for https://bugs.launchpad.net/ufw/+bug/1204579. I suggest following my
advice in my last comment to avoid the issue while using 'iptables -w'
is explored.

[Bug 1911637] Re: Another app is currently holding the xtables lock

2021-09-18 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thanks for the report. I read the ansible bug but this issue is actually
coming from the underlying iptables tool. Something on the system is
manipulating the firewall via iptables at the same time that the ufw
command is being run. As described, this would happen with any firewall
software. If only ufw is being used with ansible, perhaps ensure that
the ufw commands are not being run in parallel. The upstream bug
referenced docker, which will also manipulate the firewall with
iptables; perhaps ensure that ufw configuration is applied before docker
is started.

I'm going to mark this bug as Invalid for now. Feel free to provide more
information if you feel this is specific to ufw.

Thank you Seth for raising this.

For clarity on the current status of this, the decision-making part of
what is appropriate to do in Ubuntu here has been delegated by the

[Bug 1518457] Re: kswapd0 100% CPU usage

2021-09-18 Thread Tobias
Still not solved.
Bug happens on Fresh install of Kubuntu 21.04 with reccomended HDD distribution
on modern Lapotp (Ryzen5, 5500U).
And on older Laptop (~2014) with Ubuntu 20.04 & 21.04, Kubuntu 21.04 and
Lubuntu 20.04 & 20.10 & 21.04. (experienced often, sometimes every few hours)
Kswapd0 process rapidly increases in CPU then uses all resources (no result
after hours) necessating reboot.

Killing a high Ram process (in the few seconds till all CPU is taken)
(p.e. Firefox) stops the Kswapd0 process.

Am willing to provide additional data / reformat old laptop for tests
etc.

[Bug 1772430]

2021-09-18 Thread Qa-admin-q
Dear bugzilla,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open,
confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked
on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has
been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really
appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still
present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of
LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:
https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/irc.freenode.net/#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team

[Bug 1944041] [NEW] ausweisapp2 package dependencies missing, starts without gui

2021-09-18 Thread Mark Dominik Bürkle
Public bug reported:

AusweisApp2 should provide a (interactive, graphical) welcome screen and
configuration dialog upon (at least first) startup.
This window does not pop up because components (qt-qml stuff) is not installed,
not depended upon.

There will be many linux users having trouble and switching to other
OSes / installations to get the identification with German ID cards (and
stay permits) going!

To fix this, the packages "qml-module-qtqml-models2 qml-module-qtquick-
controls qml-module-qtquick-controls2" (including dependencies, of
course) have to be installed.

However, I did not check further usage of the application, yet, ie if
there are further requirements they might pop up later in using the
application / dialogs.

AusweisApp2 (package ausweisapp2 version 1.20.0-1build1) does not open
the configuration dialog upon starting. In the Log (which is removed
when the application ends) lines like

  UILoader::load(ui/base/UILoader.cpp:81):
Try to load UI plugin: "UIPlugInQml"
  UILoader::load(ui/base/UILoader.cpp:89):

...
...
  UIPlugInQml::onQmlObjectCreated(ui/qml/UIPlugInQml.cpp:526):
QML engine initialization finished with fatal errors.

can be observed and the Dialog with greeting for first start and
configuration does not show up.

I tried many different "qml" packages, in the end was successful,
removed all of them (purge + autoremove), reinstalled (...) and got the
minimal set:

sudo apt install qml-module-qtqml-models2 qml-module-qtquick-controls
qml-module-qtquick-controls2

[Bug 1944010] Re: gThumb crashes on open on Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon

2021-09-18 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1944010

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Please note: `ubuntu-bug`, `apport` & bug reporting tools are provided
with Ubuntu by default, many require manual addition for some releases
of downstream OSes based on Ubuntu (eg. Linux Mint). You should check
with your distribution first.

[Bug 1944040] [NEW] (bad docs) The special network id “all” is undocumented in wpa_cli

2021-09-18 Thread Bill Yikes
Public bug reported:

In wpa_cli:

> help enable_network
commands:
  enable_network  = enable a network

That's insufficient. What happens when someone runs “select_network 5”
followed at some point by “save config”? It permantly disables all
networks except network 5. Users who want to get back to a normal
situation where all networks are enabled so that wherever they are a
network is automatically select are then left running “enable_network
0”..“enable_network 1”..“enable_network 2”..etc. Pain in the ass.

This webpage mentions that there is a special network id “all”:

https://w1.fi/wpa_supplicant/devel/ctrl_iface_page.html

So after selecting a specific network, one can run “enable_network all”
to get back to a normal situation. This possibility should be
documented in the enable_network help text as well as the select_network
text so those who use select_network are informed on how to reverse
their action.

[Bug 1944039] [NEW] Ubiquity installs non-bootable hyrbrid system when nvidia graphics is available

2021-09-18 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

I installed Ubuntu 21.10 using ubiquity on a Legion Slim 7 with an amd
cpu/gpu using the amd gpu to drive the laptop screen but also an nvidia
graphics card. The installer ran fine but the installed image failed to
boot, just showing a blank screen. The installer had installed both the
amdgpu and nvidia drivers but was trying to use only the nvidia driver,
which failed to display the login screen on either the laptop screen
driven through the amd gpu or on the external monitor driven through the
nvidia card.

The solution turned out to be to run "sudo prime-select intel" (or more
appropriately, "sudo prime-select on-demand", so I could also use prime
and reverse prime), which fixed the problem. (Running prime-select intel
was a bit counter-intuitive because the cpu is not intel so it me took a
long time to figure out the problem.)

When hybrid graphics are in use and ubiquity installs the nvidia driver,
shouldn't it default to prime-select on-demand instead of prime-select
nvidia?

[Bug 1929999] Re: [SRU] libreoffice 6.4.7.2.M3 for Focal

2021-09-18 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
** Summary changed:

- [SRU] libreoffice 6.4.7.2.M1 for Focal
+ [SRU] libreoffice 6.4.7.2.M3 for Focal

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

- * LibreOffice 6.4.7.2.M1 is a bug-fix release of the 6.4 line:
- It receives important bug-fixes on top of the 6.4 branch which is EOL
since November 30, 2020. Currently maintained by Andras Timar for France's MIMO
(https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2013/06/17/the-document-foundation-welcomes-frances-mimo-in-the-advisory-board/)
+ * LibreOffice 6.4.7.2.M3 is a bug-fix release of the 6.4 line:
+ It receives important bug-fixes on top of the 6.4 branch which is EOL
since November 30, 2020. Currently maintained by Andras Timar for France's MIMO
(https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2013/06/17/the-document-foundation-welcomes-frances-mimo-in-the-advisory-board/)

- * Version 6.4.7 is currently released in focal.
- (that's a total of ?? bugs)
+ * Version 6.4.7 is currently released in focal.
+ (that's a total of ?? bugs)

  * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU a
minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

  [Testing]

  * Launchpad testing. The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests that were
run and verified as passing.
-
https://launchpad.net/~ricotz/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+sourcepub/12419370/+listing-archive-extra
+
https://launchpad.net/~ricotz/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+sourcepub/12419370/+listing-archive-extra

- * [amd64] ...
- * [arm64] ...
- * [armhf] ...
- * [ppc64el] ...
- * [s390x] ...
+ * [amd64] ...
+ * [arm64] ...
+ * [armhf] ...
+ * [ppc64el] ...
+ * [s390x] ...

  * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite were
carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented by:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

  [Regression Potential]

  * A minor release with a total of ?? bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bug-fix-only
release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
  features were removed.

  * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as described
above should provide reasonable confidence that no regressions sneaked
  in.

[Bug 1944028] [NEW] linux-aws 5.13: KCSAN bug on Xen-based instances

2021-09-18 Thread Andrea Righi
Public bug reported:

5.13 with KCSAN enabled reports the following bug on Xen-based
instances.

Maybe it's worth investigating to determine if they are false positives
or not, for now, I think we can just disable CONFIG_KCSAN to prevent
this boot problem:

[Bug 1944009] Re: ubiquity is just looping - ubuntu impish

2021-09-18 Thread Chris Guiver
I've repeated the same install as this bug report is about using the
same partition; thus overwriting the Lubuntu impish install in comment
#14.

- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
ie. using sda5 as / with no-format

At near 2 hours into install; dmesg is showing the same results

[ 6994.615914] sda: sda1 sda2 sda3 sda4 < sda5 >

endlessly with only the timecode changing...
(no new daily was available for ubuntu desktop so identical daily as yesterday
...)

[Bug 1943853] Re: Recent update DELETED SNAP PROGRAMS

2021-09-18 Thread Paweł Stołowski
Ah, what I suggested in comment #18 would only re-create "system"
connections (such as desktop, audio-playback etc) provided by snapd, but
the other problem is with gnome-3-28-1804 and gtk-common-themes content
provider slots. For those, removing and installing them back should re-
create their auto-connections, so try this:

$ snap remove gnome-3-28-1804
$ snap remove gtk-common-themes
$ snap install gnome-3-28-1804
$ snap install gtk-common-themes

As for the actual root cause, I fear it will be very hard to understand
what went wrong without "snap changes", which unfortunately got pruned
already.

[Bug 1944020] Re: cannot use gparted with orca screen reader in Ubuntu Mate 20.10 and 21.04 live images

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1944020/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

Tavis Ormandy reported that when converting from ISO-2022-JP-3 to UTF-8,
the gconv module could trigger an assertion failure in iconv/skeleton.c
if the second wide character in a two-wide-character sequence cannot be
written to the output buffer during character set conversion.

If glibc is built with assertions, this assertion failure can typically
be triggered by applications (such as mail clients) which use the glibc
iconv subsystem for MIME character set processing.

gconv: Fix assertion failure in ISO-2022-JP-3 module (bug 27256)

The conversion loop to the internal encoding does not follow
the interface contract that __GCONV_FULL_OUTPUT is only returned
after the internal wchar_t buffer has been filled completely. This
is enforced by the first of the two asserts in iconv/skeleton.c:

/* We must run out of output buffer space in this
 rerun. */
  assert (outbuf == outerr);
  assert (nstatus == __GCONV_FULL_OUTPUT);

This commit solves this issue by queuing a second wide character
which cannot be written immediately in the state variable, like
other converters already do (e.g., BIG5-HKSCS or TSCII).

[Bug 1944019] [NEW] Most of the computer's memory rendered unavailable in Linux after updating BIOS

2021-09-18 Thread Jarkko Toivonen
Public bug reported:

I have got a HP HP ZBook Studio G5 laptop.

After updating BIOS from "BIOS Q71 Ver. 01.15.00 12/28/2020" to version
"BIOS Q71 Ver. 01.16.00 04/22/2021" most of the memory got unavailable
in Linux. The system has 16 GiB of memory, but now free -h shows only
total of 1.5 GiB. In Windows all memory seems available. No other
indication of the problem in /proc/meminfo and /proc/iomem (will attach)
is shown except that the total memory is 1.5 GiB. No large area is shown
as reserved in /proc/iomem. But there is now an error message in dmesg
that didn't use to be there: "kernel: efi: memattr: Failed to map EFI
Memory Attributes table @ 0x72f69018". Also that EFI MEMATTR address
seems to have changed after the BIOS update. I will also attach an
earlier dmesg prior to update and a one after the update, since I
updated the BIOS two weeks ago, and after that the kernel has also got
updated.
