[Bug 1667750]

2021-09-21 Thread dion
I also have exactly same problem, but with a bit different HW.

Now it's USB DAC branded as "Qudelix-5K". As far as I understand it's
USB1 device.

[ 174.358189] usb 5-2.3.2.2.1.1: new full-speed USB device number 17 using
xhci_hcd
[ 174.475229] usb 5-2.3.2.2.1.1: New USB device found, idVendor=0a12,

[ 174.475235] usb 5-2.3.2.2.1.1: SerialNumber: ABCDEF0123456789

It produces corrupted sound (actually some noise) just after a few
seconds of playback if connected to Dell WD19TB thunderbolt dock
station. Issue happens with USB-A ports on dock plus one Type-C port
(front). Second Type-C port (named as "Type-C with Thunderbolt 3 port"
works.

When such noise happens I'm getting followed in dmesg:

xhci_hcd :3a:00.0: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD
ep_index 5 comp_code 1
xhci_hcd :3a:00.0: Looking for event-dma ffe940f0 trb-start

I've tried to add/remove extra USB hubs (originally Qudelix was plugged
to internal USB3 hub of monitor). But even if plugged directly to dock,
it produces corrupted sound.

Another important thing: this dock has built-in Ethernet with r8153
chipset like mentioned above.

After reading comments here I've tried to disable soft retry using
followed patch:

I tried adding the file client.conf to /etc/cups as suggested by Nyyr,

I don't have time to try to reproduce right now, but as mwhudson said it
doesn't look like you're using the Ubuntu docker.io package. The first
thing that caught my attention is the Go version used to build the
package: we use Go 1.13, whereas you used Go 1.16. The other suspicious
thing is the GitCommit field, which should contain our tags (for example
"20.10.7-0ubuntu1~20.04.1" on Focal).

Are you using Ubuntu on the host? Perhaps your comment was made because
you're experiencing this error with the Ubuntu docker image, but bear in
mind that this bug is about the docker.io/runc/containerd packages that
run on the Ubuntu host.

Thanks,

[Bug 1935034] Re: Update mpt3sas Driver to 38.100.00.00 for Ubuntu 21.10 and 20.04

2021-09-21 Thread Michael Reed
Many of the patches were already in the impish kernel, so I have
summarized the impact statement for what was cherry picked.

SRU Justification:

[Impact]
This is a feature request to update the mpt3sas driver to latest version in
upstream 38.100.00.00 in Ubuntu 21.10 and Ubuntu 20.04.
This will allow users to use fixes and enhancements that landed upstream in
5.14. For this reason,
Broadcom and Dell have requested to pull these patches to update the
mpt3sas driver to the current upstream version.

I could see both Ubuntu 21.10 and 20.04 HWE has mpt3sas driver
v36.100.00.00, following are the commit ID's to update to 38.100.00.00

[FIXES]
The following fix patches are cosmetic patches which doesn't have any driver
functionality impacts:
- 84a84cc6af scsi: mpt3sas: Fix fall-through warnings for Clang
- cf750be8e6 scsi: mpt3sas: Fix Coverity reported issue

The following patches are related to kernel APIs compatible changes and doesn't
have any driver functionality impacts:
- f2b1e9c6f8 scsi: core: Introduce scsi_build_sense()
- 2910a4a9e9 scsi: mpt3sas: Documentation cleanup

Handle firmware faults gracefully during IOC initialization time:
Currently, if the driver detects any firmware fault during the IOC
initialization then the driver terminates the IOC initialization operation.
With this feature, the driver tries to recover the IOC from the fault state, if
IOC successfully recovers from the fault state then driver continues with the
IOC initialization operation.
- 19a622c39a scsi: mpt3sas: Handle firmware faults during first half of IOC init
- a0815c45c8 scsi: mpt3sas: Handle firmware faults during second half of IOC
init

[TESTING]
Load the driver
Run IO

[REGRESSION RISK]
No extra test cases are needed, normal regression test cases such as driver
load & running IOs are enough.

  * v4l2-relayd

These 3 should be sufficient for you to bring up IPU6. And you'll need

[Bug 1939966] Re: [Asus TUF Gaming FA506IV] Random system stops

2021-09-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Comment #34 appears to be a *different* kernel bug again:

watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#6 stuck for 22s! [apt-esm-hook:2930]

although what came before that is suspicious too:

kernel: BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 006c
kernel: #PF: supervisor write access in kernel mode
  kernel: #PF: error_code(0x0002) - not-present page

So I would recommend trying:

 * Uninstalling VirtualBox and its kernel drivers to see if the crashes stop
happening.
 * Testing the RAM overnight with https://www.memtest.org/ or
https://www.memtest86.com/

[Bug 1749961]

2021-09-21 Thread dion
I also have exactly same problem, but with a bit different HW.

Now it's USB DAC branded as "Qudelix-5K". As far as I understand it's
USB1 device.

I've tried to add/remove extra USB hubs (originally Qudelix was plugged
to internal USB3 hub of monitor). But even if plugged directly to dock,
it produces corrupted sound.

Another important thing: this dock has built-in Ethernet with r8153
chipset like mentioned above.

After reading comments here I've tried to disable soft retry using
followed patch:

diff --git a/drivers/usb/host/xhci-pci.c b/drivers/usb/host/xhci-pci.c

[Bug 1943008] Re: squashfs-tools: needs to depend on libgcc-s1

2021-09-21 Thread Dan Bungert
> Any progress on this?

If the snapd snap on the edge channel was on stable, this would be a
non-issue because libgcc_s has been added to that snap. If you like,
you can verify this for yourself by making a modification to the snapd
package to force the edge channel snap to be installed and running it
thru autopkgtest.

Adding the dependency from squashfs-tools -> libgcc-s1 is ultimately a
good thing for package correctness but will do nothing to resolve the
current autopkgtest dilemma because it's the mksquashfs inside the snapd
snap that wants a matching libgcc_s. See also above comment I made
which shows that libgcc_s is de-facto present on any realistic system.

I'm strongly considering just hinting the relevant packages and being done with
it, but there is the following problem:
Why are any of the snapd autopkgtests passing right now?

looking at current history of amd64 snapd tests, the last 4 runs were triggered
with
* linux-aws (pass)
* linux-gcp (pass)
* linux-oracle (fail)
* linux-meta-kvm (pass)

I looked at the logs and artifacts for oracle versus the others and I'm
not seeing interesting reasons on why -oracle would fail when -gcp
passes. And when I run them locally, they fail every time, including
passing scenarios like the above linux-gcp. And why would -oracle would
pass 4 days ago and not now?

Again, maybe we just hint and move on, but something odd is happening.

[Bug 1928954] Re: sssd not using offline credentials even no network available

2021-09-21 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
Hi, sorry about the delay in replying; we're busy preparing the new
release.

Thanks for providing more information about the bug. I compared the
configuration you provided with the one I have installed in my test
environment, and it seems like they're pretty much the same. At least I
don't see anything that might be a problem in your configuration, and I
do see the right setting that is necessary to make offline logins work
(cache_credentials = True).

I did another test here and created a new user ("samba-tool user create
blabla password"), logged in with it, logged out, powered off the AD DC
VM, and then tried to log in again. Although the login process takes a
bit more time (i.e., a few more seconds) than what is normally expected
(due to the DC being offline), it eventually succeeds and I can
successfully login using my offline credentials.

I noticed that you have a debug level set to 1 in your sssd.conf file.
Could you set it to 6 instead (you can also use the sss_debuglevel tool
to do that) and then attach the log files that live inside
/var/log/sssd/ to this bug, please? I'm interested in the files that
end with ".log" (i.e., I'm not interested in the files named .1, .2.gz,
etc.). Also, make sure to promptly try to login using your offline
credentials after setting the debug level, because then we have a better
chance at catching the problem.

Lastly, I'd like to ask if it's possible for you to create an Ubuntu
Impish LXD and configure it as a client in your environment so that you
can try to reproduce the problem there.

Thank you in advance.

[Bug 1944477] [NEW] Wayland - double monitor: edge tiled windows change position after suspension

2021-09-21 Thread Jeremie Tamburini
Public bug reported:

- System: Ubuntu 21.04 (experienced also with Ubuntu 21.10)
- Wayland session
- Hardware setup: laptop connected to 2 extra monitors
  - Laptop screen: off
  - Samsung (left monitor): on
  - LG (right monitor): on

- DESCRIPTION
Edge tiled windows can be placed in a different position after suspension. See
this video example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xL1VlzDh2CU

In the video you can see that Gedit is placed on the left side of the
monitor on the right. After suspension Gedit is moved to the left side
of the left screen.

It looks that this bug happens only with windows tiled at the edges between two
monitors.
Unfortunately it seems to be random, it happens often but not every time.

- REPRODUCE THE BUG
1. Left monitor: place a window using the tiling window functionality on the
right side.
2. Right monitor: place a window using the tiling window functionality on the
left side.
3. Suspend the computer.
4. Switch on the computer. Now it's possible the one or both windows are in a
different position.

- NOTES
This problem is related to Wayland session but I don't know exactly which
components (maybe Mutter?).
Please let me know if some specific commands is needed.

I've just updated to kernel 5.11.0-36.40~20.04.1 (I'm on HWE stack on
Linux Mint 20.2). I'm still getting the same log errors as OP reported.

[Bug 1943124] Re: Upgrade fails due to "text file busy"

2021-09-21 Thread David Kastrup
It was not an option to keep my system broken for longer, so I mounted
my system disk to a working Ubuntu installation and used 'dpkg
--root=/mnt --force-script-chrootless -i ...' from there for getting
libc installed, after which a native apt install -f was able to take it
from there.

Let's hope that this was really really a one-off error nobody else will
see because I will not be able to provide any further information with
something like 1500+ packages now having been upgraded.

[Bug 1944468] [NEW] Electron applications all crash upon launch

2021-09-21 Thread Erich Eickmeyer 
Public bug reported:

Just a few weeks ago, I noticed the .deb version of Visual Studio Code
crashing upon launch. I also noticed Element (matrix client) also would
crash. The only thing these applications have in common is electron. I
was hoping this would get noticed by someone and that the issue would be
figured out, but I guess that person had to be me.

Erroneously-filed bug 1943568 exhibits the same issues. Experimenting
with Visual Studio Code provided this:

When either application was provided "--no-sandbox" at the command line, they
would run normally. However, Element does not pass that via command line, so I
was unable to use the workaround for that.

Upon investigating the runtime dependencies for Element, Atom, and
VSCode, the one thing they had in common was libgtk-3-0, and the date of
2021-09-03 for publishing coincides with the time in which these errors
started to appear.

Another workaround, other than the "--no-sandbox" usage, is to use the
snap version of the apps if available, or flatpak. These provide their
own versions of these dependencies, which tells me these .deb-based
applications are affected by libgtk-3-0.

Granted, those applications are not in the Ubuntu repository, however,
many people (including myself) rely on those to function correctly. It
would be very bad if Electron apps failed to function when 21.10 is
released.

[Bug 1938908] Re: Backport the container stack in Impish

2021-09-21 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

In order to follow our policy on keeping the container stack (docker.io,
containerd, and runc) up-to-date in our supported releases, let's
backport the stack in Impish to Hirsute, Focal, and Bionic.

It is also important because the new releases contain some CVE fixes.
+
+ The backport of the stack will also fix the following bug:
+
+ https://bugs.launchpad.net/cloud-images/+bug/1943049
+
+ Which is an issue when people are running containers with ubuntu:impish
+ image.

  [Test Plan]

Per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DockerUpdates, our test case is the
  autopkgtests

  [Where problems could occur]

As usual, we deliver most benefit to our users by delivering an upstream
experience. A risk of regressions is part of that.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ In order to backport docker.io/20.10.7-0ubuntu4 to Bionic, a new runtime
+ dependency (golang-github-ishidawataru-sctp-dev) is needed because its a
+ new dependency of golang-github-docker-docker-dev binary package, and it
+ is not available in Bionic. We have two options here:
+
+ 1) Add golang-github-ishidawataru-sctp to Bionic. This is the best
+ solution IMO, the package builds fine in Bionic (just need to downgrade
+ debhelper from 12 to 11), there is no impact in the packages in the
+ archive, and it will facilitate the future maintenance when we need to
+ backport newer versions).
+
+ 2) Roll back the changes introduced in docker.io/20.10.7-0ubuntu2. This
+ would not compromise the quality of docker itself in Bionic because
+ those changes were introduced to properly ship libnetwork component in
+ the library package but it was only needed now in Impish due to the
+ update of others golang packages. However, we would need to keep
+ applying this change (the rollback) every time we need to backport a
+ newer version of docker.io.
+
+ Due to the considerations made above I'd prefer to pick 1).

[Bug 1939603] Re: Oracle DataSource Fails When Used With a Bionic Image

2021-09-21 Thread James Falcon
** Description changed:

+ === Begin SRU Template ===
+ [Impact]
+ When attempting to launch a Bionic instance on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure,
with an explicitly set datasource: [ Oracle ], the instance fails to run the
OracleDataSource. This eventually leads to cloud-init falling back to
NoDataSource. The root cause is cloud-init attempting to add routes to create
an Ephemeral DHCP network. We can instead check for a response from the
hardcoded metadata URL and skip adding unnecessary routes.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. Launch Oracle Bionic instance
+ 2. Verify the datasource listed via `cloud-init status -l` shows
DataSourceOracle and not DataSourceNoCloud
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ If the metadata service is down, we'll fall back to the erroneous behavior.
However, cloud-init will fail in other ways if the metadata service is
inaccessible.
+
+ [Other Info]
+ Github PR: https://github.com/canonical/cloud-init/pull/988
+ Upstream commit:
+
https://github.com/canonical/cloud-init/commit/612e39087aee3b1242765e7c4f463f54a6ebd723

+ === End SRU Template ===
+
+ Initial bug:
+
When attempting to launch a Bionic instance on Oracle Cloud
Infrastructure, with an explicitly set datasource: [ Oracle ], the
instance fails to run the OracleDataSource. This leads to the instance
not having SSH keys imported from the metadata service. The failure is
  related to the command:

[Bug 1944106] Re: package libapache2-mod-php7.4 7.4.3-4ubuntu2.6 failed to install/upgrade: installed libapache2-mod-php7.4 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2021-09-21 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

I was not able to find what happened from your logs. I installed
libapache2-mod-php7.4 in a Ubuntu Focal container and I had no issue
with that. Without more information this bug seems to not be actionable.
Were you able to finish the installation? Anything that you can add here
to help us reproduce this issue?

Since there is not enough information in your report to begin triage or to
differentiate between a local configuration problem and a bug in Ubuntu, I
am marking this bug as "Incomplete". We would be grateful if you would:
provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you
believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your
system, and then change the bug status back to "New".

For local configuration issues, you can find assistance here:

[Bug 1944431] Re: Changing the resolution while in the activites overview changes to the desktop

2021-09-21 Thread Andrew Hayzen
** Description changed:

  What Happened
- 1) Installed the package gnome-session (ensuring it is the latest version)
- 2) At gdm picked "GNOME" and not "Ubuntu"
- 3) Reboot and login to the desktop
- 4) Notice that initially the activity overview is shown (correctly)
- 5) Then within a second or so, something causes the desktop to be focused and
activity overview closed (incorrect)
-
- Further notes:
- - if you log out and log back in again, it doesn't happen ?
- - if you wait on the gdm login for a long period of time (eg over a minute)
then it doesn't happen ?
- - this is *not* the Ubuntu session but the GNOME session
+ 1) Open GNOME Shell to the activities overview
+ 2) Change the resolution (eg if using a VM resize it)
+ 3) Notice that we switch to the desktop view

  What I expected to happen:
- At step 5 for the activity overview to stay and not switch to the desktop
until the user has interacted.
+ At step 3 to remain in the activities overview.

-
- I understand that the Ubuntu session with the dock enabled wants the desktop
to be the current state after login. But for the GNOME session with no
extensions enabled, the way that if one logs in quickly and something is
triggering the activity overview to be dismissed appears to be a bug.
-
-
- $ apt policy gnome-session
- gnome-session:
- Installed: 40.1.1-1ubuntu1

[Bug 1943568] Re: slack-desktop no longer runs

2021-09-21 Thread Erich Eickmeyer 
This is the incorrect package. Slack desktop (the chat/collaboration
app) is not in the repositories. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to
invalidate this bug report as Slack is unsupported. The slack package in
Ubuntu is a different application altogether.

That said, there is an issue affecting all Electron apps currently. I'm
having trouble pinpointing what the culpret is, but it's not this
package.

[Bug 1927925] Re: Massive network problems with I219-V on Thinkpad T14 Gen2 (e1000e)

2021-09-21 Thread Rex Tsai
Hi,

WW38.2'21: Confirmed Intel LAN issue; promoted to LAN engineering. Please see
further details below.
Please verify the issue again with FIA wa.7z, which should be final solution
candidate.

Root cause:

The power management flow on TGL shut down a clock that is required for
exiting from K1 (K1 Is the equivalent of L1 for the proprietary PCIe
like interface between the MAC and the PHY).

Due to missing configuration, the clock request was not asserted
properly which caused a long K1 exit latency which is the reason for the
performance issue.

Solution:

Update the HW MAC initialization flow. Do not gate DMA clock from the
modPHY block. Keeping this clock will prevent drop packets sent in burst
mode on the Kumaran interface.
