[Bug 1949029] Re: SSD disappears on Reboot but on cold boot is detected

2021-10-27 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu

packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1949029/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1943842] Re: rustc 1.53 and cargo 0.54 required by firefox 94

2021-10-27 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
So rustc is uploaded everywhere except hirsute, where 1.52 failed to
build for infrastructure reasons on riscv64 and the retry hasn't
finished yet. As I'm going to be away for a couple of days, someone else
could upload https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-
foundations/ubuntu/+source/rustc?h=hirsute-1.53 to
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-security/+archive/ubuntu/rust-
updates/+packages after the build completes.

Cargo 0.54 is staged in
https://launchpad.net/~mwhudson/+archive/ubuntu/rust-stuff/+packages and
seems to be OK. Once the builds have finished and published, someone
impatient could upload the *-0.54 branches of
https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-foundations/ubuntu/+source/cargo to
the relevant places, or I'll do it on my Tuesday next week.

[Bug 1948995] Re: Allow reverting to older revisions of a snap

2021-10-27 Thread Ian Johnson
It is by design that you cannot revert to a snap that you do not already
have installed on a system.

You can try using `snap list ruby --all` to get all currently installed
revisions on your system (but note that only one revision can be
"active" at a time), the revisions listed by this command are all the
revisions that you can revert to.

You can increase the number of revisions that are kept around on a
system to ensure that you are more likely to have the previous revision
available by setting the refresh.retain system setting. I believe on
Desktop/Server this setting defaults to 2, but on Ubuntu Core for
example this setting defaults to 3.

[Bug 1949030] [NEW] pip in venv does not see that python3-opencv is already installed

2021-10-27 Thread udifuchs
Public bug reported:

I have the python3-opencv packaged installed.

Still if I create a venv with system site packages and try to install
opencv:

python3 -m venv --system-site-packages tmp
./tmp/bin/pip install opencv-python

It will install opencv from pypi instead of ignoring it as it does for
numpy for example:

./tmp/bin/pip install numpy
Requirement already satisfied: numpy in /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages (1.19.5)

The problem seems to be that numpy installs the folder:
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/numpy-1.19.5.egg-info/

While opencv does not create any such egg-info folder.

[Bug 1949029] [NEW] SSD disappears on Reboot but on cold boot is detected

2021-10-27 Thread Ghost Man
Public bug reported:

I have a dual boot system (Windows 10 and Ubuntu 21)
Lenovo Z50-70

I upgraded my storage to Samsung 870 QVO 1TB.

When I reboot the machine via Windows, the machine reboots normally and
SSD is detected. However, when I reboot the machine via Ubuntu, the
machine will reboot but it won't detect my SSD.

I have upgraded to the latest Ubuntu distro and have the latest kernels,
etc... I have validated that my installation and boot partitions are
correct.

Other people who faced an issue similar to mine were using SSDs with
NVME. However, my SSD is using NAND, not NVME so neither applying the
fix I found about setting nvme latency nor upgrading distro have solved
the problem.

On Windows, I had initially the same problem but on Windows after
selecting AHCI Standard SATA mode, the issue was solved. On Ubuntu, I'm
already in AHCI mode but the problem persists. I did few times grub boot
repair to validate if it was something messed up with my boot
configurations but turned out that it's not.

I'm able to use Ubuntu 21 at the moment. However, I'm unable to perform
a reboot. Every time I have to shut down the machine and then manually
push the laptop's button to launch it again because if I accidentally
hit reboot via Ubuntu, the machine will not find SSD and on next boot,
the BIOS falls back into Windows Boot Manager and I have to run grub
boot repair all over again via live USB.

I hope that you will find a solution for this problem soon.

[Bug 1949026] [NEW] System hangs on purple screen

2021-10-27 Thread jeremyszu
Public bug reported:

We are facing an issue that GDM starts with Wayland instead of Xorg,
despite of 61-gdm.rules' gdm-disable-wayland for NVIDIA graphics.

The issue happens because gdm-disable-wayland is executed after GDM has
started. The reason why the udev rules takes so long is because the the
runtime suspended NVIDIA GFX takes more than 1 second to runtime resume,
hence the driver starts the probing routine rather late.

The proper solution is to impose a barrier like
systemd-udev-settle.service before GDM, but limits to the GFX device
only to avoid waiting for all udev rules are finished.

Since such mechanism isn't available right now, workaround the issue by
enabling runtime PM after driver is bound to avoid the runtime resume
delay, and hope GDM always starts after the probing is done.

Please backport below patch to supported nvidia-drivers:

there a diagnostic possible to be sure either way?)

[Bug 1948990] Re: Bluetooth does not turn on via gnome-control-center after bluetooth.service crash

2021-10-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I don't think the GUI is meant to start bluetoothd at all. It only
toggles the power state of the Bluetooth hardware. It assumes bluetoothd
is always running. So failure to restart after a crash is a problem with
bluez's systemd scripting.

[Bug 1948990] Re: Bluetooth does not turn on via gnome-control-center after bluetooth.service crash

2021-10-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It appears BlueZ upstream does not restart on failure, but in Ubuntu we
turned on restart-on-failure in version 5.53-0ubuntu3. I suggest the
best way to get that fix right now is to upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04.

The fix in mutter 40.6 could apply to any app. Wait till this fix is
released and if you still have problems with Inkscape after that then a
new bug would need to be opened.

[Bug 1948778] Re: Random flashes in gnome-shell

2021-10-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Wayland is only a communication protocol between the app and the server.
The underlying screen updates are implemented by gnome-shell (via
libmutter) using KMS. You can make it log LOTS of information by adding
this to /etc/environment:

  MUTTER_DEBUG=kms

If you do that and then record a separate log each time a flash happens:

  journalctl -b0 > anotherflash.txt

then that might be useful.

[Bug 1812095] Re: console login loop after entering username followed by RETURN

daniel-sokolov, this bug was fixed in Ubuntu kernels two and a half
years ago. Do you really have such an old kernel? I suggest asking for
help in Mint support channels -- hopefully someone can walk you through
installing a newer kernel through a rescue system.

Thanks

[Bug 1949002] [NEW] can only mount btrfs filesystems with standard crc32c checksum, fails with xxhash, sha256

2021-10-27 Thread Florian Riepen
Public bug reported:

I created a new btrfs filesystem like the following:

sudo mkfs.btrfs -L cold_storage -f --csum xxhash /dev/sdd1

Mounting it with:

sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/cold_storage

Fails with the message:

mount: /mnt/cold_storage: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on
/dev/sdd1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error.

Looking at dmesg | tail I can find the following:

[ 1788.813725] BTRFS error (device sdd1): unsupported checksum algorithm: 1
[ 1788.836552] BTRFS error (device sdd1): open_ctree failed

The error is the same for the xxhash and sha256 checksums. Only
recreating the filesystem with crc32c / omitting the --csum option
entirely allows me to mount it afterwards. I tried mounting with and
without compression enabled, no difference.

[Bug 1923262] Re: backup /etc/passwd- file should be mode 0600

2021-10-27 Thread Serge Hallyn
I appreciate you bringing this to our attention, but (as shadow upstream
maintainer) I'm going to join John in saying this should be wontfix.

Now if you want to change the subject to also making /etc/passwd 600,
then as Alexander points out that may be doable and have merit. But
just hiding the backup file doesn't make sense, and as it would require
extra code in the already fiddly backup code in shadow, there is
regression concern.

[Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled

2021-10-27 Thread elguavas
@randomdave, in case you didn't, i think you have to disable the
trackpoint as well as the trackpad.

some people have reported that just disabling the trackpoint but leaving
the trackpad enabled works, but you lose the trackpad buttons and have
to configure tap-to-click.

for others it only works if you disable both.

hope that helps.

[Bug 1948439] Re: Not able to create image with cinder as storage backend

2021-10-27 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Hemanth, or anyone else affected,

Accepted python-glance-store into focal-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-
glance-store/2.0.0-0ubuntu3 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1948996] [NEW] (gnome-software) Application icons not showing in 200% scaling environment

2021-10-27 Thread Saroumane
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 21.10 (existing or fresh install, same result)
Package : gnome-software 40.4-1build1
In Gnome Settings / Display : scaling is set to 200%.

Since I upgraded to Gnome 40.4 (with Ubuntu 21.10), gnome-software does
not display anymore most of applications icons when I scale the screen
to 200%.

Steps to reproduce the bug :

1.Boot on a fresh Ubuntu 21.10 USB Live environnement.
2.Install and launch gnome-software (check the "universe" repo first in
software-properties-gtk)
3.Notice that everything is fine, then quit gnome-software.
4. Use gnome settings / display to scale to 200% (or $ gsettings set
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.xsettings overrides
"[{'Gdk/WindowScalingFactor', <2>}]" )
5. Launch again gnome-software. Notice most icons are missing. (see file
attached)

Bug IS NOT reproduced with Fedora 34 / Gnome 40.4
Bug IS NOT reproduced with Fedora 34 / Gnome 40.0
Bug IS NOT reproduced with Ubuntu 21.04

Bug is presumably not upstream, as discussed here

[Bug 1948995] [NEW] Allow reverting to older revisions of a snap

2021-10-27 Thread Haw Loeung
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Is there a way to list the previous revisions of a snap in a specific
channel and then allow the snap client to revert or install specific
revisions?

I understand `snap revert` exists, but it only allows to revert to the
last installed and that's it.

My use case is this, on an application unit using the ruby snap, it was
automatically updated around 7 days ago. It wasn't until recently when
we wanted to update the application where the latest ruby snap broke gem
collection, see upstream bug[1]. But it wasn't known at the time so we
thought to try the latest ruby from the latest channel (from
2.7/stable). So:

| snap refresh ruby --channel latest/stable

So now we want to revert:

| $ sudo snap revert ruby
| ruby reverted to 2.7.4
| $ sudo snap revert ruby
| error: cannot revert "ruby": no revision to revert to

What we actually want is to revert from 2.7.4 (231) in 2.7/stable to
2.7.4 (219) also in 2.7/stable.

The only way seems to be to find the correct URLs for both assertion
file and snap itself, download both, and to use `snap ack ` plus `snap install RjAgguCDAawLSJ3IByPe0R92xlNtrfGt_219.snap`.

@robert, looks like we should reject this queued upload and put up a
separate set of uploads. Recommending reject here and we can work this &
next week to get you MRs to support current best-practices for

[Bug 1948990] [NEW] Bluetooth does not turn on via gnome-control-center after bluetooth.service crash

2021-10-27 Thread Fletcher Porter
Public bug reported:

I had bluetooth crash (see logs below). After the crash, I attempted to
restart bluetooth by pressing the On/Off switch in the top-right of the
Bluetooth tab of gnome-control-center (it was set to off). After
pressing the switch, the switch read "On", but the display of Bluetooth
devices still appeared as it does when Bluetooth is off (it read
"Bluetooth Turned Off\nTurn on to connect devices and receive file
transfers.").

I was able to remedy the situation by manually executing `sudo
bluetoothd`. I did this while the above On/Off switch was "Off" and the
Bluetooth device list said Bluetooth was off. After executing, the
Bluetooth device list listed all my Bluetooth devices as expected.

This is with bluetoothd 5.48.

[Bug 1948361] Re: docker.io - error adding seccomp filter rule for syscall clone3

2021-10-27 Thread dann frazier
@lucaskanashiro I don't doubt the importance of fixing bug 1943049[*].
My concern is that doing so with the current fix will knowingly break
nvidia-container-runtime users. Of course, if this is due to a bug in
nvidia-container-runtime, they should fix that. But at this point
(AFAICT) there still seems to be a possibility that this is a docker
regression.

[*] Though, fwiw, I'm not able to reproduce bug 1943094 on either a freshly
installed focal or impish host (lxd VM) using an ubuntu:impish container
verified to include libc6 2.34-0ubuntu3. But maybe I missed some important step.

[Bug 1821564] Re: b44 Ethernet driver null pointer during initialization

2021-10-27 Thread Boris Gjenero
No, "pcie_aspm=off" does not help.

I also tried uninstalling broadcom-sta-dkms. It blacklists the b44
module via /etc/modprobe.d/broadcom-sta-dkms.conf and also
https://wiki.debian.org/wl says that b44 is incompatible with wl. This
did not help either.

My laptop seems fine with just having the b44 module loaded. Lockups
only happen when I plug in the Ethernet cable and start using it. The
lockup seems total, with even Magic SysRq from the laptop's own keyboard
doing absolutely nothing.

[Bug 1946828] Re: ntfsresize hang and call traces in syslog

2021-10-27 Thread Dan Bungert
@Etienne - agree, probably a dupe

@Jeremy - I ran "ntfsresize -f -i /dev/sda4" manually before the
installer ran and ntfsresize had no issue. Later during this same run,
I saw the hang when ntfsresize was run by Ubiquity.

@Jean-Pierre - I suspect this is a kernel bug more than I suspect a
ntfsresize one.

Here's a sample process tree:
   5991 S sh -c ubiquity gtk_ui
   5992 S /bin/sh /usr/lib/udisks2/udisks2-inhibit /usr/lib/ubiquit
   6002 Sl /usr/bin/python3 /usr/lib/ubiquity/bin/ubiquity gtk_ui
   6411 Ss+ /bin/busybox tail -f /var/log/installer/debug -f /var/log
   8639 S /usr/bin/perl -w /usr/bin/debconf-communicate -fnonintera
   9107 S   /usr/share/ubiquity/activate-dmraid && /bin/partman
   9108 S   /usr/share/ubiquity/activate-dmraid && /bin/partman
   9114 S /bin/sh /bin/partman
  10014 S /bin/sh /lib/partman/display.d/10initial_auto
  10060 S /bin/sh /lib/partman/display.d/10initial_auto
  10062 S /bin/sh /lib/partman/automatically_partition/10resize_use
  10131 D [ntfsresize]

ntfsresize has been invoked as "ntfsresize -f -i /dev/sda4", where this
sda4 is a partition created by Windows 10, is NTFS, and is 508MiB.
Also, if I kill parent process of ntfsresize (pid 10062 in this case),
the install is able to continue.

[Bug 1948716] Re: Proposed Keyboard is Incorrect

2021-10-27 Thread Mark Smith
This is my first time testing daily builds - It has worked in previous releases
(I think).
There are some differences in the layout, e.g. the " and @ mappings are swapped
(Shift+2 for " in the UK, and Shift+2 for @ in the US).
I agree it's a low urgency/low importance bug, but it should be easy to fix (it
guesses my location correctly on the "Where are you?" screen)

[Bug 1948986] [NEW] ceph-osd doesn't fix /var/lib/ceph/osd ownership in postinst

2021-10-27 Thread Simon Déziel
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1) Setup and enter a LXD VM
$ lxc launch images:ubuntu/focal foo --vm
$ lxc shell foo
2) Install ceph-base in the VM
# apt-get update -qq
# apt-get --assume-yes --option=Dpkg::Options::=--force-confold install
ceph-base
3) Install ceph-osd
# apt-get --assume-yes --option=Dpkg::Options::=--force-confold install ceph-osd
4) check the ownership of /var/lib/ceph/osd
# ll /var/lib/ceph/

The osd/ should be owned by "ceph:ceph" like the other directories.
