[Bug 1949532] Re: ubuntu_ltp_controllers tests failing on Impish

2021-11-02 Thread Luke Nowakowski-Krijger
** Description changed:

Almost half of the ubuntu_ltp_controllers tests are failing due to the
general pattern 'cgroup_name already mounted or mount point busy'
  causing the tests to fail.

  e.g.
mount: /dev/cgroup: ltp_cgroup already mounted or mount point busy.
  cgroup_fj_function2_memory 1 TBROK: mount -t cgroup -o memory ltp_cgroup
/dev/cgroup failed

- From investigation it seems there's an issue with the transition to
- cgroup-v2, which on the ltp mailing list has been rumored that one of
- these days the tests would break. Its likely this was caused by a
- systemd update, switching to cgroup-v2 causing these tests to break due
- to different mount and cgroup hierarchy semantics.
+ From investigation it seems there could be an issue with the transition
+ to cgroup-v2. There have been rumors on the ltp mailing list that one of
+ these days the tests could break due to the transition. Switching to
+ cgroup-v2, likely due to a systemd update, could cause these tests to
+ break due to different mount and cgroup hierarchy semantics.

- After setting systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=0 on the kernel command
- line which sets cgroup back to v1, we get the expected failures that we
- saw in previous cycles, pointing to this not being a kernel regression.
+ I could only reproduce a subset of the new failures we are seeing, but
+ after setting systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=0 on the kernel command
+ line which sets cgroup back to v1, a lot of the failures I could produce
+ went away.

[Bug 1935850] Re: Dell XPS 17 (9710) PCI/internal sound card not detected

2021-11-02 Thread TimK.
It appears that if I switch from Wayland to X in Ubuntu 21.10 (Impish
Indri), the audio works fine, including wired headphones.

Is this a problem with Wayland somehow or just coincidence?

[Bug 1922406]

2021-11-02 Thread niclas
GUys,

I have a Samsung laptop with the AX210, so also the ty.

I've been running Debian on the laptop on stable, but decided to do a
complete new fresh install with the latest testing variant instead.

Everything works except iwlwifi has this .pvnm file and if..

.. I remove it, wifi stops working and bluetooth starts fine
.. I put it back, bluetooth stops working and wifi starts fine

Well. That means I cant have both working at the same time. Any
suggestions as to where to begin? Can I somehow make either bluetooth
accept pvnm or have wifi ignore it?

Regards,

Niclas

[Bug 1949469] Re: gnome-shell is taking too much memory

2021-11-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report.

Please start by uninstalling all your custom extensions. Don't just
disable them because a really buggy extension can still leak when
disabled. Then log in again and verify the problem is still occurring.

If the problem is still occurring without extensions then while it is
happening please run:

  ps auxw | grep gnome-shell > psoutput.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

[Bug 1948894] Re: Xwayland crash in gdm as screen off and touchscreen detach.

2021-11-02 Thread Yuan-Chen Cheng
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * Gdm crashed and user need to be an expert to know how to work around,
+or need to reboot to fix.
+
+ * OEM projects got certain SKU that can reliably reproduce this issue.
+
+ * A merged patch in upstream fix the race condition.
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ * Use the SKU that can reliably reproduce this issue.
+ * Do a cold boot, and wait for 5 mins. The monitor should turned-black
+but showing the Machine Vendor logo that was previously
+displayed by plythmouth.
+ * Try to dog-food the deb from the proposed channel and make sure
+all input events still properly propagate.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ * If the patch is not properly working as expected, per the file this
+patch touch, the user desktop session could stop responding to
+mouse, keyboard, and touch screen input.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * Can't think of any for now.
+
+
+
This is a reproducible issue. Step to reproduce
  1. cold boot into gdm login screen.
  2. wait for 5 mins, and the screen will be turned off. (also observed that
the touchscreen USB device drop of a USB bus on the target machine)

Note: this bug seems to be timing sensitive. I got an OEM project
machine that can reproduce this issue (reproducible on several machines
with the same HW design). The machine is using ADL CPU, which needs a
patched 5.14 kernel. So I can't reproduce this on impish. With the
backported mutter, I verified an upstream patch seems to fix this issue.

  Expected result:
  The screen just turns black.

  Actual result:
Saw Vendor boot logo on the monitor (previous draw by plymouth during booting)

  Analysis as it happens:
  1. Saw "LGDisplay Incell Touch" drop off the USB bus.
Kernel message like: "usb 1-9: USB disconnect, device number 6"
     as the screen turned black.
  2. There is no switch on virtual tty.
  3. journal log from Xwayland "wl_display@1: error 0: invalid object 24"
  4. Xwayland and gnome-shell process both die as this happens.
  5. Try to add sleep(30) to OsVendorFatalError(), then both Xwayland and
gnome-shell stop there for 30 more seconds.
  6. backtrace as Xwayland crashed:

[Bug 1948778] Re: Random flashes in gnome-shell

2021-11-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the video! That "flash" seems to be the whole screen
flickering to black. It can happen if the Wayland backend fails to
assign a buffer to the screen for a frame. But it can also happen with
monitor connection issues that may be hardware or software (kernel)
problems. That's less likely on a laptop but not impossible (I've seen
it there too).

Let's assume it's a software bug in Mutter's Wayland backend, but I am
out of ideas right now other than using 'Ubuntu on Xorg' as a
workaround.

[Bug 1923352] Re: speedtest-cli crashed with ValueError in get_config(): invalid literal for int() with base 10: ''

2021-11-02 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello Brian, or anyone else affected,

Accepted speedtest-cli into bionic-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/speedtest-
cli/2.0.0-1ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1945565] Re: [SRU] Revert amdgpu/renoir firmware

2021-11-02 Thread Bin Li
Mario Limonciello (superm1) wrote 8 hours ago:

Canonical team - I had some more review with internal guys about this.
Here's a better solution:

https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/462084/

This will drop the dependency on FW version for this variable by parsing
the loaded FW. That will go into 5.16. You can backport that to your OEM
kernel to remain compatible to all FW.

[Bug 1949535] [NEW] X-forwarding no longer works

2021-11-02 Thread Robert Dinse
Public bug reported:

I operate a Linux based Internet hosting service that includes Linux
shell servers of various flavors. I control these from home using
Ubuntu 21.10 presently. Until recently, X-forwarding has worked from
all but ancient Redhat 6.2 servers. I recently upgraded my debian shell
server to Bullet, and after the upgrade ssh -X debian.eskimo.com from my
workstation nanook.eskimo.com ceased to function. It simply says
"Cannot open DISPLAY". At the time, all the others continued to work.
Today, when I went to do upgrades, now ssh -X is forwarding across the
board to all flavors of Linux. I did an ssh -V, nothing obvious wrong
in the connection.

  [Test Case]
The following development and SRU process was followed:

[Bug 1949532] [NEW] ubuntu_ltp_controllers tests failing on Impish

2021-11-02 Thread Luke Nowakowski-Krijger
Public bug reported:

Almost half of the ubuntu_ltp_controllers tests are failing due to the
general pattern 'cgroup_name already mounted or mount point busy'
causing the tests to fail.

e.g.
mount: /dev/cgroup: ltp_cgroup already mounted or mount point busy.
cgroup_fj_function2_memory 1 TBROK: mount -t cgroup -o memory ltp_cgroup
/dev/cgroup failed

From investigation it seems there's an issue with the transition to
cgroup-v2, which on the ltp mailing list has been rumored that one of
these days the tests would break. Its likely this was caused by a
systemd update, switching to cgroup-v2 causing these tests to break due
to different mount and cgroup hierarchy semantics.

After setting systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=0 on the kernel command
line which sets cgroup back to v1, we get the expected failures that we
saw in previous cycles, pointing to this not being a kernel regression.

Calamares is an installer; it doesn't create installation images; but
writes the squashfs to the drive selected for install. It doesn't create
videos. It's also not usually present on an installed system

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1888526

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-

in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.
