[Bug 1950032] [NEW] htpdate daemon hangs

2021-11-05 Thread Norman Leet
Public bug reported:

htpdate (as daemon) hangs during boot process. The cause seems to be the
inclusion of “www.ntp.br” in /etc/default/htpdate as:
HTP_SERVERS="www.pool.ntp.org www.ntp.br www.wikipedia.org".
‘ping www.ntp.br’ responds ok, but htpdate does not seem to handle it.
Example from command line: “htpdate -q -d www.ntp.br” results in:
burst: 1 try: 1 when: 50
Error Sending
www.ntp.br no timestamp
burst: 1 try: 2 when: 50

Suggest changing www.ntp.br to a site responsive to htpdate. Most
anything should do.

Source Package: htpdate_1.2.0-1.debian.tar.xz

1) Description
   Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS
   Release: 18.04
2) htpdate:
 Installed: 1.2.0-1
 Candidate: 1.2.0-1
 Version table
 *** 1.2.0-1 500

   100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
3) Expected htpdate to retrieve timestamp from www.ntp.br
4) htpdate did hang while attempting to retrieve time stamp from www.ntp.br

[Bug 1950029] [NEW] Suspend "Wait until snapd is fully seeded"

2021-11-05 Thread Remi Chartier
Public bug reported:

Using Lenovo IdeaPad 3i Gaming, I got a software update this morning,
and since that time, impossible to complete a power suspend.

It is always blocked after the message "Finished Wait until snapd is
fully seeded".

Power Down is working well. Logout is working well. Only the Suspend
action is blocked on this message mentioned above.

- It is a regression bug, it was not happening before the latest update.
- Reproduced by following ways to suspend the computer :
  - systemctl suspend
  - Via Ubuntu down arrow on top left menu bar, Power Down / Logout --> Suspend.
  - Closing the lid

Bug reported with 'ubuntu-bug linux'

cf picture in attachment on all messages seen before the system gets
hanged with the final "Finished Wait until snapd is fully seeded"
message.

[Bug 1947860] Re: qemu-arm-static swallows the program name, and shifts all arguments left

2021-11-05 Thread Seth Arnold
These test cases seem complicated to me. A reporter on IRC reported that
doing things within an rpi image chroot like 'mv a b' would report an
error message "missing destination file operand":

Fri 05 23:26:13 < five623468263> root@ubuntu:/# mv etc/resolv.conf
etc/resolv.conf.bak
Fri 05 23:26:13 < five623468263> mv: missing destination file operand after
'etc/resolv.conf.bak'
Fri 05 23:26:13 < five623468263> Try 'mv --help' for more information.
Fri 05 23:26:13 < five623468263> Trying to nano resolv.conf just opens a blank
editor.

Fri 05 23:43:31 < five623468263> root@ubuntu:/# \mv /etc/resolv.conf
/etc/resolv.conf.bak
Fri 05 23:43:32 < five623468263> mv: missing destination file operand after
'/etc/resolv.conf.bak'
Fri 05 23:43:32 < five623468263> Try 'mv --help' for more information.
Fri 05 23:48:31 < five623468263> root@ubuntu:/# /bin/echo a b c
Fri 05 23:48:31 < five623468263> b c

Thanks for already doing the heavy lifting on this one. I was dreading
trying to track this down and was pretty happy to see a bug report with
the exact symptoms listed.

[Bug 1898005] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in st_bin_destroy: assertion failed: (priv->child == NULL) called from DesktopManager::_destroyDesktopIcons() [desktopManager.js:234]

2021-11-05 Thread Steve Langasek
So the upload in the focal queue:
- adds a debian/patches/series entry
- for a patch that was already included in the previous upload
- that was released because the test case in the bug description was reported
to have passed with the version in -proposed

And there have been no changes to the test case.

What is this upload actually fixing?

[Bug 1950026] [NEW] gnome-shell leaks mem, 13.8G virt, 1.3G reserved after few days of uptime

2021-11-05 Thread Andrey Lelikov
Public bug reported:

gnome-shell leaks memory like crazy. after 4 days of uptime it uses
13.8G virt and 1.3G reserved mem. This is after I switched to wayland to
mitigate the same issue, but on X.org it was much more crazier - about
20G virt / 1.5G reserved after one-two days of uptime, only the leak was
in X.org process (2 of them, greeter and main), not gnome-shell.

p.s. I do understand that gnome is the best piece of software, and I just use
it incorrectly - likely I have some extension or application that is at fault.
The bug report is sort of rhetorical.

p.p.s. Unmodified LTS system (focal). Started to manifest about a month
ago, out of the blue, no changes...

should not be a blocker for MIR. I looked into the failure, but it's
non-trivial; as far as I can tell the current failure is a toolchain bug,
and if I work around it, there is another build failure (Debian bug #997969)
which is also toolchain weirdness. Neither issue indicates a problem with
the quality of the code, so I don't think this should block support of the
package on architectures where it is currently supportable.

A test build of libtpms 0.9.0 against openssl 3 succeeds (0.8.2 fails).

I've added an autopkgtest now; it's a simple 'make check' which
unfortunately means it builds and tests against a rebuilt library instead of
against the binaries from the archive, but I think this is better than
nothing as a first pass.

Well, as far as I'm aware Canonical has no product for FIPS certification of
a virtualization stack, so I don't see any reason that FIPS for libtpms
would be "important" for us.

swtpm 0.6.1-0ubuntu4 now uploaded to trade the gnutls-bin dependency for
openssl.

Discussed above.

This has passed now (several times, in fact).

I disagree that this is worthwhile; any changes to the symbols of an
internal library that cause us to have to make changes to a symbols file are
busywork.

Thanks, will track.

The problem is that the trousers package is itself buggy and frequently
fails to install, so build-depending on it for the testsuite is not an
improvement in QA.

I believe that addresses everything except for the security review.

[Bug 1950013] [NEW] Add s0i3 RTC wake up for AMD systems

2021-11-05 Thread Alex Hung
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

  RTC based wakeup is not supported natively by the hardware for s0i3.

[Fix]

  A firmware and driver updates were implemented. The driver passes
wakeup time to SMU to to enable RTC from S0i3.

  Note this s0i3 RTC wake up also requires new firmware.

  The first patch is the prerequisite actual fix (patch 2 and 3).

[Test]

  This is requested by AMD and tested by an AMD developer as below:

Testing a suspend run with RTC for 15 seconds and then 30 seconds:
```
$ sudo rtcwake --seconds 15 -m mem
rtcwake: assuming RTC uses UTC ...
rtcwake: wakeup from "mem" using /dev/rtc0 at Fri Nov 5 02:31:45 2021
$ sudo rtcwake --seconds 30 -m mem
rtcwake: assuming RTC uses UTC ...
rtcwake: wakeup from "mem" using /dev/rtc0 at Fri Nov 5 02:33:13 2021
$ sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/amd_pmc/s0ix_stats
=== S0ix statistics ===
S0ix Entry Time: 4793618285
S0ix Exit Time: 6209036738
Residency Time: 29487884
```
Residency divided by 100 is 29.4 seconds.

Reading idle mask works fine too.

[Where problems could occur]

  Low risk.

  First patch only exports Idlemask value.
  The actual fix only affects a specific AMD CPU (CZN).

[Bug 1899487] Re: cloud-init hard codes MTU configuration at initial deploy time

2021-11-05 Thread Alexander Balderson
I'm going to re-open this bug after working through Openstack networking
migration for OVS to OVN.

I ran into an issue where the MTU set in netplan caused all my instances
to be lost after the migration. While this can, and should, be
documented, I also think that reducing places where instances could be
lost should be taken whenever possible.

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 redis-server : Depends: redis-tools (= 3:3.2.6-3+deb9u8) but it is not going
to be installed
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.32) but 2.24-11+deb9u4 is to be installed
Depends: libjemalloc2 (>= 2.1.1) but it is not installable

 redis-tools : Depends: libc6 (>= 2.32) but 2.24-11+deb9u4 is to be installed
   Depends: libjemalloc2 (>= 2.1.1) but it is not installable

E: Package 'libjemalloc2' has no installation candidate

I'm running this inside what I assume is a docker container via
circleci. This is the first time I've seen this particular issue.

[Bug 1940860] Re: Mellanox NIC interface names change between 5.4 and 5.8

2021-11-05 Thread Javier Diaz Jr
This also affects the ubuntu-installer when the `d-i base-
installer/kernel/override-image  string linux-generic-hwe-20.04`
flag is added to preseed. The installer loads 5.4 kernel and configure
NICs using the 5.4 naming convention, then once the 5.11 kernel is
loaded and the host reboots the network config fails.

[Bug 1950000] [NEW] landscape-client leaking the private URL of the server

2021-11-05 Thread frigo
Public bug reported:

landscape-client 19.12-0ubuntu4.2

my client.conf contains

[client]
url = https://my.super.secret.company.com/message-system

that allows to reach a private landscape-server whenever I am on the
company's network.

When I am not connected on my company's network, I expect no traffic to be
attempted to the private landscape-server. In practice though, the client will
keep trying to connect and send DNS queries to resolve
my.super.secret.company.com (they all fail).
This is unencrypted traffic to a public DNS server, so my laptop is leaking the
private URL of the landscape server. I would like to prevent this traffic,
basically:

"my.super.secret.company.com" name should never be sent to a DNS server
not owned by my company.

(of course I would love a generic solution as landscape-client is not
the only one doing this :) but it is the worst offender on my laptop)

[Bug 1934424] Re: kernel NULL pointer dereference during xen hibernation

2021-11-05 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
We already ship lib/systemd/system-sleep/hibinit-agent that does post
things in hibinit-resume to workaround things. Including stuff about
networking, due to previous issues with xen-netfront.

Given we already restart systemd-networkd, I wonder if we should do
better and not keep xen-netfront loaded in the kernel across suspend and
resume.

as in
1) extend hibinit-agent.system-sleep to also have pre command
2) in the pre step unload xen-netfront
3) in the post step only load xen-netfront
4) potentially still stop systemd-networkd in pre; which will be restarted
after loading xen-netfront in post

Since xen-netfront is causing us issues; and we are already unloading
and reloading it; it makes sense to unload it before suspending
altogether.

[Bug 1949988] [NEW] undefined symbol: pthread_yield

2021-11-05 Thread Gregor Jasny
Public bug reported:

Hello,

while compiling our software in a Ubuntu jammy docker image I noticed a
backward incompatibility issue in glibc 2.34-0ubuntu3. Our build fails
with:

ld.lld: error: undefined symbol: pthread_yield
>>> referenced by tlibthrd.cxx:1546 (ptlib/unix/tlibthrd.cxx:1546)
>>>   tlib.o:(PTimedMutex::~PTimedMutex()) in archive
>>> /builds/ExternalLibs/ptlib/2.10.9_1591084383/Applications_ubuntu2004_x64_cxx17_clang10/lib/libpt_d_s.a
>>> did you mean: pthread_yield@GLIBC_2.2.5
>>> defined in: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6

The libpt_d_s.a library was statically built on Ubuntu 20.04 and depends
on a lot of pthread symbols:

$ nm
/builds/ExternalLibs/ptlib/2.10.9_1591084383/Applications_ubuntu2004_x64_cxx17_clang10/lib/libpt_d_s.a|grep
 -i " U pthread"|sort -u
 U pthread_attr_destroy
 U pthread_attr_init
 U pthread_attr_setschedparam
 U pthread_attr_setschedpolicy
 U pthread_attr_setstacksize
 ...
 U pthread_yield

Recompiling libpt against the current glibc will redirect from
pthread_yield to sched_yield, but nevertheless it would be nice if
existing libraries could be used for the transition phase.

The changes behavior is most likely due to
https://sourceware.org/git/?p=glibc.git;a=commit;h=c2fd60a5861efef48252f5cc7efc70e1d8a0da9a

Thanks,
Gregor

[Bug 1868127] Re: [SRU] OpenVPN will not reload due to misconfigured .service file

2021-11-05 Thread Robie Basak

security update in 2.4.7-1ubuntu2.20.04.2 (2.4.7-1ubuntu2.20.04.1

[Bug 1939210] Re: When using HWE, zfs-kmod and zfs user tools versions must match

2021-11-05 Thread James Dingwall
The version mismatch was the cause of a problem I had with `zfs
promote`: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zfs-
linux/+bug/1947568

In the end I'm using a 3rd party PPA to get updated user space tools but
I don't see that as the ideal solution.
