[Bug 1953628] Re: Too high CPU load in qemu-system-x86 compared to Ubuntu 21.04/21.10

2021-12-09 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Bert,
thanks for the extra info.

I'm still confused by "Ubuntu 21.10+Virtualbox 6.1.30 run on the bare metal a
Ryzen 3 2200G" vs "highest level is always Ubuntu 14.04". Probably a
terminology thing what in virtualization is up and down :-)
Let me try to make sense of it :-)

So are we talking about:
a) PC -> Ubuntu 21.10 -> Virtualbox 6.1.30 -> Ubuntu 21.10 -> virt-manger/qemu
-> Ubuntu14.04
b) PC -> Ubuntu 21.10 -> Virtualbox 6.1.30 -> Ubuntu 22.04 Mate ->
virt-manger/qemu -> Ubuntu14.04
c) PC -> Ubuntu 21.10 -> Virtualbox 6.1.30 -> Ubuntu 22.04 Budgie ->
virt-manger/qemu -> Ubuntu14.04
d) PC -> Ubuntu 21.10 -> Virtualbox 6.1.30 -> Ubuntu 22.04 -> virtualbox ->
Ubuntu14.04

And of these a+d are "fast" and b+c are "slow" - is that correct?
And the comparison a->b/c is what makes you assume it is a regression?

As of today the virtualization components of 21.10 and 22.04
(qmeu/virt-manager/libvirt) are still mostly the same as I only planned to
upgrade them in ~Jan/Feb which makes this extra interesting.
So maybe some other component in 22.04 changed already that makes this happen.

If my above summary is wrong, could you please provide the real setup in
the same less-misleading form I tried to write it up?

[Bug 1954379] [NEW] Please do not ship liboqs in stable releases

2021-12-09 Thread Andrius Merkys
Public bug reported:

The authors of liboqs have explicitly asked to withhold distribution of
liboqs binary packages until the NIST Post-Quantum Cryptography
standardization project reaches its conclusion. Please block liboqs
binary packages from being shipped with stable Ubuntu releases.

I am the maintainer of liboqs in Debian, and there I have blocked the
source package from migrating to testing branch
(https://bugs.debian.org/1000303). It would be best to block liboqs
until the bug report in Debian is closed.

[Bug 1954369] [NEW] Fix runtime power management on USB controller with XHCI_RESET_ON_RESUME flag

2021-12-09 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
xHCI driver's runtime resume routine tries to reset USB controller with
XHCI_RESET_ON_RESUME flag. That causes USB devices connect to the xHCI
fail to work.

[Fix]
Disable runtime power management regardless of
CONFIG_USB_DEFAULT_PERSIST option.

[Test]
USB devices which connect to the xHCI controller can work normally.

[Where problems could occur]
USB_DEFAULT_PERSIST is a config for system-wide PM to speed up resume
time, so it shouldn't be applied to runtime PM at first place.

[Bug 1927255] Re: [USB-Audio - RODECaster Pro, playback] Sound is distorted (20.04)

2021-12-09 Thread Jacob Pfeifer
Hey guys, I was the one who started the amd chipset rumor. We've been
talking about the issue over at
https://forum.level1techs.com/t/rodecaster-pro-bad-audio-out-solved-
ish/170601.

At first I thought it was an amd vs intel issue just due to the hardware
I had on hand that worked/didn't work. After someone popped in
mentioning their intel device having the issue and a pcie card they
bought also having the issue it seems like the issue is with all usb3.2
gen2x2 host controllers, or at least that's my best guess. I picked up a
different pcie usb card than the person had trouble with and that was
3.2 gen2x2 capable. I can reproduce the issue on both it, and my
motherboard usb ports. However, using a usb3.0 pcie card the issue goes
away.

One strange thing to me about all of this is that the rodecaster pro is
negotiating usb2 480mbps connections, so i'm not sure why a later usb
spec would mess with that. It's also worth noting that the issue seems
to be related to the usb host controller itself as using ports capable
of different speeds/going through usb hubs or directly connecting
doesn't change the behavior. I also don't have a usb 3.1 gen2 host
controller to test to see if the issue is truly only with usb 3.2 gen2x2
controllers.

Debugging any further than that is proving difficult though. I did a
diff on both my lsusb and pw-dump output and the only changes in the two
were paths/ids which are expected to change.

[Bug 1954348] [NEW] sed 4.8-1 needs patch disabling non-portable tests

2021-12-09 Thread Dave Jones
Public bug reported:

The sed 4.8-1 package currently in proposed is failing to migrate due to
a failing test on armhf. The patch added in 4.7-1ubuntu1 is still
required to work around this, and the attached debdiff restores this.

The patch has been applied upstream to gnulib
(https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/gnulib.git/commit/?id=175e0bc72808d564074c4adcc72aeadb74adfcc6)
but sed upstream has not yet bumped the version of gnulib that it
vendors in (or more precisely has not made a release since bumping its
version of gnulib; 4.8 predates that).

The patch itself simply disables the non-portable tests which is not
exactly ideal, but given it's what upstream's gone with we ought to
follow suit.

** Affects: sed (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Patch added: "sed-migration.debdiff"

[Bug 1954343] [NEW] Please remove NBS binaries for libcasa-*5 from jammy

2021-12-09 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

casacore 3.4.0-2 (jammy/universe) provides libcasa-*6 binaries, so the
libcasa-*5 binaries can go:

libcasa-casa5
libcasa-fits5
libcasa-measures5
libcasa-ms5
libcasa-scimath-f5
libcasa-scimath5
libcasa-tables5

It looks like wsclean was the last thing apart from casacore itself that
required these, but a recent no-change rebuild (3.0-2build1) has
resolved those.

[Bug 1954342] [NEW] Client authentication error "Failed to convert SID ... to a PID"

2021-12-09 Thread Daniel Schwarzloh
Public bug reported:

After an unattended upgrade to samba 2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.26 on
our fileserver, clients are not able to establish a connection to samba-
shares. The fileserver serves as a domain member server with an ldap on
a different machine (see output of testparm below).

Given the correct login credentials, the client responds with:
tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
and the client specific samba-logfile on the fileserver will show:
 [2021/12/09 15:04:29.783978, 0]
../source3/auth/auth_util.c:1259(check_account)
check_account: Failed to convert SID
S-1-2-34-5678910-11121314-15161718-192021 to a UID
(dom_user[MYDOMAIN\myusername])

A wrong password in a client throws:
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE

The config was working fine until the unattended upgrade from samba
2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.23 to 2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.26

I have tried to reproduce the behaviour on an Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS with
samba 4.13.14 and ran into the same error.

This is the testparm output of the fileserver:

[Bug 1954340] [NEW] Fan stopped working after firmware upgrade

2021-12-09 Thread Chester
Public bug reported:

There was a firmware upgrade available this morning that I did. After
that when I boot up my computer I noticed it was getting very hot. I
then realized that the fan was no longer blowing. I don't remember
exactly what the upgrade notes said but I recall it had something to do
with either fan or CPU. The fan works before the OS starts but once the
computer starts to boot the fan stops blowing even if the computer is
very hot (Over 90 degrees Celsius).

Possible confounding factors:
My boot partition was too small and I was getting problems doing installations.
I've since reinstalled to increase the size.

1) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 21.10
Release:21.10

2) Not sure which package. Occurred after a firmware upgrade I installed
this morning.

3) I expect the fan to blow like I used to (I think it was always on but
for sure it would come on if the temperature went up)

4) The fan does not come on even if the CPU temp goes over 90 degrees
Celsius.

I don't know why someone has a problem with the permissions of a directory
containing public keys. At least the permissions of ~ should prevent
world to access the directory. From my point of view the status of this
bug in Hirsute and Fedora is the way to go ...

[Bug 1954338] [NEW] FTBFS with OpenSSL 3

collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

sfcb/1.4.9-0ubuntu6/+build/22604622)

This is an Ubuntu-specific package in multiverse that has never been in
Debian, it appears to have been in maintenance mode for many years (last
uploads of new upstream releases in 2014 and 2017). I don't know who if
anyone is still interested in this package, but the package needs to be
fixed or removed for 22.04 due to the OpenSSL 3 transition. If no one
steps up to fix this, we will remove this package and its reverse-
dependencies for jammy.

[Bug 1954335] [NEW] nouveau driver frequently freezing / crashing kernel on fresh 20.04 install

2021-12-09 Thread James Cuzella
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1217585 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1217585

Public bug reported:

Hello,

I'm experiencing frequent crashes that hard-lock the system and kernel
completely.

Symptoms are:
- Frozen screen
- No Keyboard or Mouse input accepted
- Remote SSH times out as if system is not responding
- Kernel does not respond to the "Alt + SysRq + REISUB" key sequence to force a
reboot. (kernel was compiled with CONFIG_MAGIC_SYSRQ=y)

I tracked down the issue to the nouveau driver (see attached journalctl
logs for crash dump)

The primary and only PCI Video card in the system is quite old and thus
should be well supported:

- 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT215 [GeForce
GT 240] (rev a2)

lshw output:

I'm tagging the bug rls-jj-incoming for it to be reviewed as a target
for the cycle, we don't plan to update to 5.17 afaik but the feature is
requested by oem partners and we will likely end up cherry picking the
kernel changes to the version we include

[Bug 1943369] Re: mate-screensaver crashed with SIGSEGV in matemenu_tree_item_ref()

2021-12-09 Thread Dani Llewellyn
Unless I've done something wrong in my local build, I do not believe the
patch fixes the problem :-(

Edit: though the patch I have been testing is to mate-screensaver, while
the fix that Wimpy is working with appears to be related to mate-menus
directly.
