[Bug 1955109] Re: boot menu not appearing after manual install of jellyfish daily build

2021-12-19 Thread Bob H
As OS PROBER is disabled for security reasons I think this bug should be
labelled 'security issue'

** Description changed:

desktop amd64 PC, UEFI, 8 core processor, 16gb RAM, nVidia graphics
  card, several ssd's

manual install of Kubuntu Jellyfish to a partition on ssd alongside
  Kubuntu Focal LTS

I am testing an installation of Kubuntu Jellyfish daily build alongside
Kubuntu Focal 20.04.3
Usually this proceeds without a problem.

Since the 16th Dec daily build of Jammy, the boot menu does not appear
any more after installation, also booting ignores Kubuntu Focal and
  proceeds directly to Kubuntu 22.04.

I recovered the boot menu on this PC by running boot-restore from an iso
of Kubuntu Focal both Focal and Jelly fish are then available from the
  restored boot menu.

This bug appears in Kubuntu Jammy after a manual install directly to the
  computer's ssd.

I'm not an expert at bug reporting, so if this report is incorrectly set out
or if more info is needed I'm happy to follow instructions.
I'll keep an eye on this thread.
I think the problem is with the Jammy iso, not Focal.

+
+ A boot menu is not created and any other operating systems on the device
become invisible to the user.
+ As this is a development version this could be a temporary state of affairs.
+ At the very least the user needs to know what will happen and to know this
before beginning the installation process.

[Bug 1955386] Re: fwupd / fwupd-efi split on version 1.7.x

2021-12-19 Thread Yuan-Chen Cheng
Per fwupd 1.7.x, the source pkg for fwupd and fwupd-efi are split.
If we forget all those details in the first place, here is a proposal:

fwupd: only userspace files, no EFI app.
fwupd-unsigned:
  /usr/libexec/fwupd/efi/fwupdx64.efi
fwupd-amd64-signed-template:
  /usr/share/doc/fwupd-amd64-signed-template/*
fwupd-signed:
  /usr/libexec/fwupd/efi/fwupdx64.efi.signed
  /usr/libexec/fwupd/efi/version
  /usr/share/doc/fwupd-signed/*

With this, the fwupd and fwupd-efi it kind of totally de-couple. For
today, fwupd-efi does cover all existing fwupd versions. We don't know
when the dependency will change for now.

[Bug 1955386] Re: fwupd / fwupd-efi split on version 1.7.x

2021-12-19 Thread Yuan-Chen Cheng
For current fwupd 1.5.x

- Source pkg: fwupd
- Binary pkg:
fwupd:
  /usr/libexec/fwupd/efi/fwupdx64.efi
fwupd-amd64-signed-template:
  /usr/share/doc/fwupd-amd64-signed-template/copyright / changelog.z

- Source pkg: fwupd-signed
How the EFI get signed: it downloads the properly signed EFI from

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/focal-updates/main/uefi/fwupd-amd64/current/
There shall have something behind the scene to sign the EFI pkg and upload
it there.
- Binary pkg: fwupd-signed
  /usr/libexec/fwupd/efi/fwupdx64.efi.signed
  /usr/libexec/fwupd/efi/version
  /usr/share/doc/fwupd-signed/*

[Bug 1955384] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2021-12-19 Thread Marko Drobac
Public bug reported:

This bug happened when I clicked and held the left mouse button on the
desktop and moved it to make a rectangular selection window. Next, I
moved the window to highlight 4 desktop shortcuts on my desktop (Middle-
earth Shadow of Mordor.desktop, steam.desktop, Trash, and the icelancet
or Home folder). Next, while still holding the left mouse button down, I
pressed and released the right mouse button. Now a window pops up with
more options, however, the window is not removable using a normal method
like clicking somewhere else on the desktop or even choosing an option
in the window which does nothing. Also, it introduces more bugs like: 1.
clicking the icelancet/Home shortcut on the desktop does not open the
Home folder, or 2. while clicking the Home folder shortcut on the
sidebar does open the Home folder, this window is not moveable by the
usual method of pressing down the left mouse button on the title bar of
the window and moving the mouse. As such, when this bug occurs, a hard
reboot is necessary to restore the stability of the system. I have
reproduced the bug after a reboot and doing the same procedure - the
same thing happens. This is on the latest version of Ubuntu (Release
20.04) with all the latest upstream updates installed.

[Bug 1952814] Re: Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-deps.c when dlopen .so, built with --filter option

2021-12-19 Thread Andrei Podoplelov
This bug has easy fix: remove line 549 (v2.27) in dl-deps.c, saying
assert(map->l_searchlist.r_list[0] == map);

I checked all the glibc sources after v2.27, which runs on my Ubuntu 18.04. I
see that this bug is fixes in v2.32.
It would be nice to fix it for Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04 - easy one line fix.

[Bug 1955353] [NEW] Installing linux-modules-extra-raspi in chroot triggers flash-kernel which fails

2021-12-19 Thread guysoft
Public bug reported:

Hey, following up on: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
raspi/+bug/1947601?comments=all

Its not possible install linux-modules-extra-raspi in chroot, because it
activates flash-kernel which fails.
I also tried to bypass flash-kernel by moving /sbin/flash-kernel aside before
installing, but then the issue of docker failing does not get fixed.

This means that a number of distros I maintain can't have docker running
correctly.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-raspi/+bug/1947601?comments=all
  Related: https://github.com/guysoft/CustomPiOS/issues/149

Its not possible install linux-modules-extra-raspi in chroot, because it
activates flash-kernel which fails.
I also tried to bypass flash-kernel by moving /sbin/flash-kernel aside before
installing, but then the issue of docker failing does not get fixed.

This means that a number of distros I maintain can't have docker running
  correctly.

[Bug 1955350] [NEW] Financial mode incorrectly places currency for Russian Rouble

2021-12-19 Thread Hector B
Public bug reported:

Open mate-calc, switch to Financial mode, select Russian Rouble from
drop-down menu below.

Expected behaviour - Russian Rouble currency must be placed AFTER the
value, not before.

# Russian Rouble <> USD

1000 руб. = $13.59
USD <> Russian Rouble

$10 = 736,06 руб.

# Actual behaviour now:

Russian Rouble <> USD

руб. 1000 = $13.59
USD <> Russian Rouble

$10 = руб. 736,06

[Bug 1955348] [NEW] File Properties dialog barely fits into display in width under Russian localization

2021-12-19 Thread Hector B
Public bug reported:

In Russian localization ru_RU.
But could be reproduced in other non-English vocalizations as well.

Open caja, right click on a file and watch tabs of the dialog.dialog are

This file "Properties" dialog (RU: "Свойства архива") displays all possible
tabs in one wide line requiring more than 1550px of width to render the dialog.
Under certain display resolutions utmost left and right sides of the dialog are
not visible.

All dialog's tabs must be visible and easily accessible under any display
resolutions.
If dialog's width exceeds an accepted threshold, ideally the tabs should be
presented in stackable form.
This will allow users seeing all possible tabs/actions.

[Bug 1955109] Re: boot menu not appearing after manual install of jellyfish daily build

2021-12-19 Thread Bob H
There is a workaround here but I'm pretty sure a newcomer to Ubuntu wouldn't be
able to discover it.
To them this would appear to be an insurmountable problem and they could get
into difficulties as any other OS present alongside on their device would
apparently have 'disappeared'.
Perhaps the developers already have a method and plan to make this issue more
user friendly?

Taken from the bug description:

It's possible you had a bad write to your media. If you're still having
problems you should try re-writing the image to your media and possible
re-downloading it too.

[Bug 1955347] [NEW] rsync works bad with encfs now

2021-12-19 Thread Micouin Claude
Public bug reported:

Hello,
I think rsync works bad with encfs now.

When root uses it, rsync cannot read a directory encrypted with encfs by
a user. More precisely, it cannot read the mounted directory, the
virtual one where the user can read the datas.

Until now there was only a warning like this
"rsync: readlink_stat("/home/claude/Documents_chiffres") failed:
Permission denied (13)"
and the software went on working (only ignoring the content of the mounted
directory and of course without saving this content)

But recently there is this more:
"IO error encountered -- skipping file deletion"
and because of this "skipping file deletion", the software can't work normally.
The destination gets bigger more and more because the deleted files in the
source are not deleted in the destination.

Thanks for reading me.

[Bug 1955345] [NEW] Active ceph-mgr crashes on receiving report from a non-active mgr

2021-12-19 Thread Ponnuvel Palaniyappan
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
An active ceph-mgr crashes and another ceph-mgr takes over and becomes
the active mgr. But this could again hit same issue and crash and the cycle can
continue indefinitely (previously crashed ceph-mgr gets restarted by systemd).

This could affect the cluster stability/usability as ceph mgr handles a
number of essential operations (modules that control/change Ceph cluster
behaviour, metrics, etc).

[Test Plan]
Deploy and operate a Ceph cluster normally.
Increase the log level of mgr to 20.
Observe MMgrReport sent from non-active mgrs get ignored (no crash).

[Where problems could occur]
Possibly the fix may not actually fix and mgr continue to crash as before.
Might incorrectly ignore reports from active mgrs.

[Other Info]

Octopus backport PR: https://github.com/ceph/ceph/pull/43861
Octopus backport bug: https://tracker.ceph.com/issues/53198

This has been already been fixed and available in Pacific.
So needed to backport only for Octopus.

[Bug 1955343] [NEW] Atril does not zoom in/out epub documents

2021-12-19 Thread Hector B
Public bug reported:

Expected behaviour:

Menu provides options to zoom to "Fit page", "Fit width", "50%", "100%",
"150%". They must be handled for epub files as well.

Actual behaviour:

Atril ignores all attempts to zoom to "Fit page", "Fit width", "50%", or
any other requested variants on epub documents.

JFYI: PDF files are treated as expected, PDF files can be properly
zoomed to any value.

Steps to reproduce the behaviour"

Open an epub document with Atril application. Try choosing "Fit width",
"50%", "100%", "150%".

[Bug 1955321] Re: Lock screen bypassed on wake from sleep

2021-12-19 Thread opnsrctechtrn
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

This could be similar to Bug #1768352, but I noticed that with Mate
21.10 (upgraded from 20.04) the lock screen gets bypassed on wake. I
suspend the laptop while connected to an external display, on wake from
the laptop panel (disconnect the external monitor) the lock screen is
bypassed. It takes a minute and boots right into the desktop.

If it helps the external monitor is a full HD panel while the laptop has
a strange resolution of 3x2. I think while the xserver tries to draw
everything in the different resolution it skips the lock screen. Normal
just lock or power throttle all work fine.

Hardware used: Microsoft Surface Laptop Go.

[Bug 1955341] [NEW] EOM puts wrong file name on "Save As..."

2021-12-19 Thread Hector B
Public bug reported:

Expected behaviour:
Original file name must be preserved in the field "Name:".

Actual behaviour
Random file name is suggested the field "Name:" after attempting to select
desired file extension.

Steps to reproduce the behaviour

Organize a folder with several graphical files like below:

file1.png
file2.png
file3.png
file4.png
file5.png

Double click on one of them, for instance, click on file3.png to open it in
application "Eye of MATE".
Try saving this file with menu "Image", "Save As...".
A dialog titled "Save Image" opens.
In bottom right corner of this dialog choose specific file type (extension),
e.g. "JPEG (*.jpeg)".
Watch different file name has been substituted in the upper field "Name:".

[Bug 1955337] [NEW] Yakuake reverts to full screen after collapse/uncollapse

2021-12-19 Thread Pietro Pasotti
Public bug reported:

Version: 19.12.3-0ubuntu1
System: 7~20.04.2-Ubuntu

When I first installed yakuake I set height: 90%, width: 90%. It worked as
expected, and the terminal appeared where it should (vertically centered).
Every time I collapse/uncollapse it with F12, however, the height/width setting
seems to be 'forgotten' and it reverts to 100% on both dimensions.
Furthermore, trying to change the width will result in yakuake appearing on the
left side of the screen (0,0) instead of being vertically centered as it should
be.

I tried many combinations of options in the 'Configure Yakuake' tool but
nothing seems to affect that. The height/width sliders appear to be
correctly set (they still are at 90%), setting them to any other value,
applying, and back to 90%, temporarily updates the window to the correct
size.

The Quick Options dropdowns, however, both display 100% (maybe related
to the issue we're having?).

[Bug 1955336] [NEW] mate-volume-control: Speaker testing dialog changes size on pressing "Test" in Russian localization

2021-12-19 Thread Hector B
Public bug reported:

When "Test" button is pressed (RU: "Проверить"), the window "Speaker
testing" (RU: "Проверка динамиков") becomes wider.

Steps to reproduce the behaviour:

In Russian localization "ru_RU".
Start mate-volume-control, click on "Hardware" tab (RU: "Оборудование"), then
on the "Test Speakers" button (RU: "Проверить динамики") below. Click on "Test"
buttons in the new dialog to watch the symptom.

Installing latest candidate snap package of Libreoffice

2021-12-19 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a

packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

[Bug 1955325] [NEW] Firefox cannot open files in /usr/local/doc

2021-12-19 Thread enz
Public bug reported:

Both Firefox and Chromium in Ubuntu 21.10 cannot open files in
/usr/local/doc and show a File-not-found error. IMO this is a bug
because this directory often contains HTML files from locally installed
software that now cannot be browsed with these HTML browsers anymore.

The cause is probably the apparmor configuration in
/var/lib/snapd/apparmor/profiles/snap.firefox.firefox, which contains a
read permission for /usr/doc, but not for /usr/local/doc.

[Bug 1955324] [NEW] Firefox removed as default browser

2021-12-19 Thread Juerg Haefliger
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from hirsute to impish, firefox is no longer my default
browser but chrome. Similarly, firefox was removed from the list of
favorites. An upgrade should not change user default settings!
