[Bug 1939347] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freeze since kernel 5.11

2021-12-28 Thread Nikolaos Chachampis
I'm currently on Kubuntu 21.10 with kernel 5.13.0-22 and I have noticed
that no freezes occur when in a Wayland session. I can use my laptop
normally, both in battery / charged, connected to an external monitor or
not. Running for two days now, with some reboots in between.

[Bug 1955965] [NEW] 21.10 cannot enter desktop after blacklist nouveau driver

2021-12-28 Thread yin rong
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 21.10 can NOT enter desktop after:
1) install Nvidia 470
2) blacklist nouveau driver

--

why blacklist nouveau?

External HDMI monitor render 0.5 frames/second when turn off built-in
monitor. Render normally if both build-in and external HDMI monitor are
on.

Blacklisting nouveau fix `0.5 frames/s` problem in Ubuntu 21.04, but
cannot enter desktop in Ubuntu 21.10

---

why not use Ubuntu 21.04 ?

Ubuntu 21.04 render incorrectly, for example, if:
1) built-in monitor: scale=125%, resolution=4000x2000
2) external monitor: scale=100%, resulution=2000x1000

Ubuntu 21.10 render correctly.

And it did pass in the previous cycle.
The only explanation I can think of is there are some HW related changes in AWS

Like rtc01 failure in bug 1955953, this test has passed with
5.13.0-1007.8 with LTP head SHA1 2ac54d426 and 5.13.0-1006.7 + LTP head
SHA1 9ce71152b in previous cycles. However, I tried to reproduce this
manually and it's failing with 5.13.0-1005 / 1007 and 1008 with the same
LTP head (2ac54d426). I am not sure why it has passed in the past.

[Bug 1728388] Re: Infinite loop on boot when loading ACPI

2021-12-28 Thread Eric Heintzmann
The issue is still present on a 5.15 kernel.
On a HP Pavilion 17-0e50sf (Hybrid Graphics: Intel_i915/AMD_radeon ), the
system hangs for about 40 seconds after the user login (tested with gdm,
lightdm / GNOME, Weston, xfce / Xorg, Wayland).

dmesg output:

ACPI Error: Aborting method \AMD3._ON due to previous error

Tried with both radeon and amdgpu kernel modules: same issue.

Also tried to call ACPI method \AMD3._ON with acpi_call module: it
returns an error after 30 seconds.

Blacklisting the radeon and amdgpu modules allows me to work around the
problem

[Bug 1955944] [NEW] Missing Breaks/Replaces on network-manager-gnome

2021-12-28 Thread Colin Watson
Public bug reported:

Upgrading from focal to jammy failed with:

Unpacking libnma-common (1.8.32-1) ...
dpkg: error processing archive
/tmp/apt-dpkg-install-eCL6UN/011-libnma-common_1.8.32-1_all.deb (--unpack):
 trying to overwrite
'/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.nm-applet.gschema.xml', which is also in
package network-manager-gnome 1.8.24-1ubuntu3

It looks like a file has moved, so assuming that's correct there should
be a corresponding Breaks/Replaces to tell dpkg that it's OK.

[Bug 1955932] [NEW] ps5 controller no longer working

2021-12-28 Thread tobi smethurst
Public bug reported:

Hello!

Up until today, my playstation 5 controller worked great with ubuntu +
steam both over bluetooth and wired.

Now, I can get the controller connected via bluetooth, and I can use
`jstest /dev/input/js0` to read input from the controller in my
terminal, but Steam no longer recognizes the controller. This bug only
just started happening today.

When I check in my journalctl logs when connecting the controller, I see
the following, which indicates that perhaps something is going wrong...

[Bug 1955918] Re: Triyng to update to 22.04 fails due to missing 'ubuntu-minimal' package.

2021-12-28 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The mirror (TDS Telecom) you're using does not provide support for jammy
(22.04).

I'd suggest switching to an official Ubuntu mirror - ie.
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archivemirrors or the main archive.

The error message was I felt appropriate, ie. you mentioned

"This may be because you have no official mirrors listed in your
software sources"

I've changed status to 'incomplete'; if you believe I'm in error, please
leave a comment and the status can be returned to 'new;.

** Changed in: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Incomplete

[Bug 1915238] Re: warning: /var/spool/postfix/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt and /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt differ

2021-12-28 Thread Scott Kitterman
So I looked into this a bit more and based on
http://www.postfix.org/postconf.5.html#smtp_tls_CAfile is doesn't appear
to me that the ca-certificates.crt file needs to be in the chroot at
all. What happens if you just delete the chroot copy? Looking in the
git history, I can see we used to install this file into the chroot, but
I'm not sure we needed to.

This way you are going to lose the features of the Synaptics driver.

A workaround retaining the driver as well as proposal for a solution I
now documented over there:

[Bug 1955846] Re: Crash during install

2021-12-28 Thread Erich Eickmeyer 
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. While we appreciate the difficulties you are facing, it
would appear that the image (ISO file) you downloaded could be corrupt
based on the information you reported:

CasperMD5json:
 {
   "result": "skip"
 }

Without a complete verification of the install media, there is no way to
know if this is valid. Based on that, this bug report will be closed.

** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Invalid

[Bug 1955918] [NEW] Triyng to update to 22.04 fails due to missing 'ubuntu-minimal' package.

2021-12-28 Thread Ryan Daniels
Public bug reported:

"Invalid package information

After updating your package information, the essential package
'ubuntu-minimal' could not be located. This may be because you have
no official mirrors listed in your software sources, or because of
excessive load on the mirror you are using. See /etc/apt/sources.list
for the current list of configured software sources.
In the case of an overloaded mirror, you may want to try the upgrade
again later.

[Bug 1908931] Re: Kubuntu 20.04 System Settings Online Accounts - unable to add Google account

2021-12-28 Thread Marc Dietrich
yeah, if fact it is not a gnome-control-center bug, but a problem with
libWebKit2gtk-4.0 under Wayland. This affects both, Kubuntu as well as
stock Ubuntu (also in 21.04, which I use).

** No longer affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)

** Also affects: webkit2gtk (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1875163] Re: rdiff-backup crashes when running backup

2021-12-28 Thread normandrobert
Had same problem. Got newer rdiff-backup which handles filesystem
problem gracefully and then fixed said filesystem problem.

I discovered that my root cron backup script which uses rdiff-backup had been
failing for months for the same worrysome reason that rdiff-backup had a
problem with a directory it was backing up as root. Confirmed running manually:
...
File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/rdiff_backup/rpath.py", line 386, in
make_file_dict
statblock = os.lstat(filename)
PermissionError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: b'/home/robert/.cache/doc'
During handling of the above exception, another exception occurred:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/rdiff-backup", line 32, in
rdiff_backup.Main.error_check_Main(sys.argv[1:])
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/rdiff_backup/Main.py", line 390, in
error_check_Main
..

I could not remove the empty directory as the owner or as root. As a
workaround, I got a later version of rdiff-backup which continues
"gracefully" after encountering the above problem.

sudo apt -y install python3-pip python3-setuptools python3-pylibacl
python3-pyxattr
rdiff-backup --version
sudo apt -y remove rdiff-backup
sudo pip3 install rdiff-backup
rdiff-backup --version

rdiff-backup above is in /usr/local/bin

After a few reboots + a manual fsck -V -f on the partition of interest (/home)
which found nothing, rdiff-backup ran clean and I was finally able to remove
the offending directory. I was expecting fsck to have run on the partition of
concern at boot and fixed something but there is no evidence it ran. Only keeps
last boot?
more /run/initramfs/fsck.log

Log of fsck -C -a -T -t ext4 /dev/sdd5
Tue Dec 28 15:30:07 2021

GUI Disk utility says disk is ok probably via smartmon. Will run short

[Bug 759725] Re: The kernel is no longer readable by non-root users

2021-12-28 Thread Michael Meffie
Looks like this workaround is working for me as new kernel versions are
released:

$ cat /etc/kernel/postinst.d/statoverride
#!/bin/sh
version="$1"
[ -z "${version}" ] && exit 0
dpkg-statoverride --update --add root root 0644 /boot/vmlinuz-${version}

That file must be executable.

[Bug 1567744] Re: USB NICs get too long name for ifupdown aliases or bridge names

2021-12-28 Thread Zhu Shengli
I don't understand why this is a won't fix bug.

If users pick a long NIC name by themselves, then it's users'
responsibility to fix it. But apparently this is not the case, it's an
unexpected behavior caused by internal conflicts of different linux
components.

[Bug 1953223] Re: USB device is not detected during boot, again

2021-12-28 Thread Jarkko Toivonen
I tried rc7, but it doesn't boot either.

Just to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong, I installed the mainline kernel
5.15.11. It booted fine, even without nomodeset. And my USB net adapter seems
to be working. At least in the two reboots that I tried. The 5.15.11 version
seems to include your commit "xhci: Remove CONFIG_USB_DEFAULT_PERSIST to
prevent xHCI from
runtime suspending", and the (previously) problematic part in
drivers/usb/core/hub.h:
if (!hub->hdev->parent) /* root hub */
return delay;
else /* Wait at least 100 msec for power to become stable */
return max(delay, 100U);

So, this could fix the problem, but I guess I have to wait until the
Ubuntu version of the 5.4.x kernel.

[Bug 1764965] Re: [Realtek ALC1220 ASUS PRIME X370] Recording is very slow and plays 10x faster

2021-12-28 Thread ThomasE
I could fix it by executing the following workaround:
pacmd load-module module-alsa-source device=hw:2,2

The actual hw numbers might vary, depending on your specific board and
how many other audio devices you have connected.

Now I have switched to pipewire and that doesn't work anymore.
I even tried by replacing pacmd by pw-cli, but I get:

pw-cli load-module module-alsa-source device=hw:2,2
Error: "Could not load module"

Any hints?

[Bug 1955863] Re: Ubuntu fails and requires a hard reboot. This appears to be due to the file system becoming readonly.

2021-12-28 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

(FYI: A file-system flipping to RO (read-only) is usually the result of
the system detecting errors & flipping to RO prevents dataloss. You
should read your systemd journal logs for clues; but the usual cause is
hardware issues; such as power; failing disks etc.)

[Bug 1955901] [NEW] Romanian Keymap for German Keyboards is still using Cedillas for Romanian Characters instead of Commas

2021-12-28 Thread Kai Junghans
Public bug reported:

Description of problem:
gnome-keyboard-properties for Romanian language in German keyboards "Romanian
(Germany)" and "Romanian (Germany without Accents)" is still using the
incorrect characters for ș, ț, Ș and Ț. Instead of a comma underneath the
character, they use a cedilla.
The Romanian standard keyboard layout does this correctly since 2008 (See Bug
#108057)

For more precise information as to the why the cedillas are incorrect:
http://www.secarica.ro/html/s-uri_si_t-uri.html (in Romanian):

Steps to reproduce:
1. Run Ubuntu 21.10 in German Language
2. Klick the Dash Button
3. Type "Einstellungen" to go to Settings and click the icon.
4. Select Tastatur > Eingabequellen
5. Select Layouts
6. Click on "+" to add a new layout
7. Search & Select "Rumänisch (Deutschland)" or "Rumänisch (Deutschland ohne
Akzenttasten)"
8. Select "Rumänisch (Deutschland)" or "Rumänisch (Deutschland ohne
Akzenttasten)", and move it to the top of the list.
9. Close
10. Start "Textbearbeitung" App or any other text editor or teminal window.
11. Using a German keyboard(physical keyboard), press the key combination
ALT+s, ALT+t, SHIFT+ALT+s, SHIFT+ALT+t

Actual results:
ş, ţ, Ş and Ţ appear with cedillas. (U+015F, U+0163, U+015E, U+0162)

Expected results:
ș, ț, Ș and Ț to appear with commas. (U+0219, U+021B, U+0218, U+021A)

[Bug 1946660] Re: Ubuntu port of v4l2loopback doesn't behave the same as official port (v0.12.5)

2021-12-28 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Per inspection result from above comment, the behavior is actually a bug
in the upstream v4l2loopback source, function v4l2_loopback_write:

  /* there's at least one writer, so don'stop announcing output capabilities */
  dev->ready_for_output = 0;

Which set `dev->ready_for_output` to zero without correcting its
`dev->type`.

[Bug 1946660] Re: Ubuntu port of v4l2loopback doesn't behave the same as official port (v0.12.5)

2021-12-28 Thread You-Sheng Yang
The first open has:

Source, bus=platform:v4l2loopback-000, version=0x00050f07, capabilities=0x

```
The second open has:
```
[17091.427287]
/var/lib/dkms/v4l2loopback/0.12.5/build/v4l2loopback.c:1964[v4l2_loopback_open]
[17091.427292] v4l2-loopback[1992]: opened dev:c093a43d with

[17091.427293]
/var/lib/dkms/v4l2loopback/0.12.5/build/v4l2loopback.c:1993[v4l2_loopback_open]
[17091.427297] video10: VIDIOC_QUERYCAP: driver=v4l2 loopback, card=OBS Video

```
As indicated in the capabilities field returned from the VIDIOC_QUERYCAP
call, 0x8520 means no V4L2_CAP_VIDEO_CAPTURE(0x01) neither
V4L2_CAP_VIDEO_OUTPUT(0x02) is set. And since it reports neither, kernel
`check_fmt` in "drivers/media/v4l2-core/v4l2-ioctl.c" will evaluate
variable is_vid to false, and therefore returns -EINVAL.
This is a direct result from
[Bug 1938964] Re: icmp_redirect from selftests fails on F/kvm (unary operator expected)
2021-12-28 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
** Description changed:
+ [Impact]
+ If any sub-test in this icmp_redirect.sh is failing but not expected
+ to fail. The script will complain:
+ ./icmp_redirect.sh: line 72: [: 1: unary operator expected
+
+ This is because when the sub-test is not expected to fail, we won't
+ pass any value for the xfail local variable in log_test() and thus
+ it's empty. Fix this by passing 0 as the 4th variable to log_test()
+ for non-xfail cases.
+
+ This issue can be found on our KVM kernel with SRU tests, they're
+ failing because of missing some kernel configs.
+
+ [Fix]
+ * 39d8622c72 "selftests: icmp_redirect: pass xfail=0 to log_test()"
+
+ This patch can be cherry-picked into all of the affected kernels.
+
+ [Test Plan]
+ Run the patched icmp_redirect.sh script with a KVM kernel (e.g. F/kvm), and
this "unary operator expected" error message should no longer exist.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+ Change limited to test script, it won't have any impact to real kernel
function. And this issue is most likely specific to KVM kernels.
