[Bug 1950941] Re: Integer underflow in the vrend_decode_set_shader_buffers() on virglrenderer

Hi Seth Arnold,

being breached?

I believe that this is a security issue, which causes OOB writing in the
vrend_set_single_ssbo():

 2973 void vrend_set_single_ssbo(struct vrend_context *ctx,
 2974uint32_t shader_type,

 2980struct vrend_resource *res;
 2981
 2982if (!has_feature(feat_ssbo))
 2983   return;
 2984
 2985if (handle) {
 2986   res = vrend_renderer_ctx_res_lookup(ctx, handle);
 2987   if (!res) {
 2988  report_context_error(ctx, VIRGL_ERROR_CTX_ILLEGAL_RESOURCE,
handle);
 2989  return;
 2990   }
/* OOB writing */
 2991   ssbo->res = res;
 2992   ssbo->buffer_offset = offset;
 2993   ssbo->buffer_size = length;
 2994   ctx->sub->ssbo_used_mask[shader_type] |= (1u << index);

2021-12-29 Thread Chris Guiver
Further to my last comment (#32), I zsync'd today's Ubuntu Desktop
(jammy) for a QA-test so as report on iso.qa.ubuntu.com & link here..

Ubuntu jammy Desktop ISO (2021-12-29) on
- samsung 700t1c-p10aat (i5-3317u, 4gb, 3rd gen.core.intel.graphics)

NO problems have occurred; on booting the jammy image I can use the
device perfectly ! I'll update lubuntu jammy daily & re-test, then
remove 'jammy' tag if I can't recreate issue I mentioned in #32. I
cannot re-create issue with Ubuntu Desktop..

[Bug 1956004] Re: [BPO] Backport 5.6.0 from Jammy

2021-12-29 Thread Alec Leamas
Adding the Debian backport checklist

- Current version is two versions behind. As a result, upstream directs all
users to the PPA, a packaging which does not meet basic standards. Ergo:
backporting is meaningful.
- The package has a substantial user base although this for now means the PPA
users.
- Package is available in Debian Bookworm and Jammy.
- Opencpn is a leaf package, no reverse dependencies.
- No other Ubuntu backports exist.
- I also maintain the Debian package and is also fairly active in the upstream
project.

2021-12-29 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Attached are two 'systemd-analyze plot's for the autopktest jammy system
with cloud-init and ufw installed. plot-2.svg is for booting the system
with 0.36.1-2 (current jammy) and plot-3.svg is 0.36.1-3 (proposed
jammy). Notice how plot-2.svg, ufw and systemd-networkd start quite a
bit earlier than in plot-3.svg.

[Bug 1956008] [NEW] Python plugins not working due to missing pyqt4

2021-12-29 Thread Bernhard Trummer
Public bug reported:

Hi.

I'm using muse 3.0.2+ds1-2build1 on Ubuntu 20.04.

When opening a MIDI track segment, there's a "Plugins" menu providing some
Python-based scripts.
However, selecting one of them (e.g. RandomizeVelocityRelative) to be executed
on some selected MIDI events leads to an error popup and as nasty side effect
the previously selected MIDI events are deleted:

MusE was unable to launch the script, error message:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/muse/scripts/RandomizeVelocityRelative", line 31, in
from PyQt4 import QtGui, QtCore
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'PyQt4'
...

PyQt4 doesn't seem to be "easily" available anymore.
So what I did was to look at the upstream repository of muse on github.
It turned out, that all these scripts are already updated to use PyQt5, but
only for versions 4.0pre1 or higher.
So I just opened the current scripts from
https://github.com/muse-sequencer/muse/tree/master/src/share/scripts and
overwrote "RandomizeVelocityRelative" and "SwingQuantize1" in my
/usr/share/muse/scripts and ... it works. :-)
At least those two are working fine for me now, because I'm using them quite
frequently.

So coming to my request:
Would it be possible to patch these Python scripts with the content from
upstream/master to make them "just work" again in muse as provided by Ubuntu
20.04 (and later LTS releases that are not shipping muse 4.0 yet)?

Thanks and regards.

[Bug 1950039] Re: ufw 0.36.1-3 introduces ordering cycle, breaking network

2021-12-29 Thread Jamie Strandboge
@juliank - note I wasn't so much talking about 'blame' as much as
understanding, so I apologize if it came across that way. Since I wasn't
able to reproduce, I was trying to reason through my thoughts to help
the discussion go further since I'm not able to diagnose it myself.

In a nutshell, I have concerns that the ufw service has a side effect
that somewhere else in the system is dependent on. That other part of
the system should be setup to work without ufw in the mix. I'm also
concerned that users might face issues if ufw is purged or if other
similarly configured software is installed (eg, firewalld).

With that in mind, it seems odd that a service that does nearly nothing
by default would affect the system by having a Before/Wants on network-
pre.target.

It also seems odd that going from very little dependencies
(DefaultDependencies=no) to have only those for 'basic system
initialization' would be a problem since those are not related to
networking, etc. Eg, in today's autopkgtest jammy instance that I
created with `autopkgtest-buildvm-ubuntu-cloud -r jammy` and rebooting
with the proposed -3 of ufw installed:

$ lsb_release -a

Seeing what depends on ufw, there is very little:
$ systemctl list-dependencies ufw.service --reverse
ufw.service
● └─multi-user.target
●   └─graphical.target

I can also say that nothing in this VM depends on network-pre other than ufw:
$ systemctl list-dependencies --reverse network-pre.target
network-pre.target
● └─ufw.service

and that there is not much depending on network.target:
$ systemctl list-dependencies --reverse network.target
network.target
○ ├─netplan-ovs-cleanup.service
● └─systemd-networkd.service

Rebooting with ufw -2 installed, all of the above is the same except ufw's
dependencies are nearly nothing:
$ systemctl list-dependencies ufw.service
ufw.service
● └─system.slice

This autopkgtest VM doesn't have cloud-init installed (which is
consistent with why I'm not seeing it in here like I am not in Debian)
and I don't know what cloud-init config to provide to provide any
additional diagnosis. I can say that if I install cloud-init, it add a
dependency on on network-pre.target (still with -2 of ufw):

$ systemctl list-dependencies network-pre.target --reverse
network-pre.target
○ └─cloud-init-local.service

It has:
$ cat /usr/lib/systemd/system/cloud-init-local.service
[Unit]
Description=Initial cloud-init job (pre-networking)
DefaultDependencies=no
Wants=network-pre.target
After=hv_kvp_daemon.service

RemainAfterExit=yes
TimeoutSec=0

# Output needs to appear in instance console output
StandardOutput=journal+console

[Install]
WantedBy=cloud-init.target

I notice that it has a `Before=sysinit.target` and
DefaultDependencies=no.

Is cloud-init in our infrastructure configured to run ufw?

[Bug 1956005] [NEW] Firefox Snap won't open links to WhatsApp API

2021-12-29 Thread Santiago Fernández Núñez
Public bug reported:

The .deb version of Firefox handles links to WhatsApp API
(https://api.whatsapp.com/send/?phone=) without any problem: these
links open the WhatsApp web client.

Snap version of Firefox doesn't know how to handle these links. It opens
the pop up "Choose an application to open whatsapp lnks" that only shows
the option System Handler (which fails opening them if selected).

Choosing Firefox is not possible as /bin and similar folders are out of
range for the snap.

[Bug 1950039] Re: ufw 0.36.1-3 introduces ordering cycle, breaking network

2021-12-29 Thread Julian Andres Klode
This broke the autopkgtest cloud. Networking did not came up and hence
no tests passed anymore. We absolutely must not let this pass until we
are sure the problem is resolved, as rebuilding images without it is
hard. (so setting it to incomplete is fairly dangerous).

Debian does not use cloud-init usually, so it hardly matters if it works
there. I don't care who's to blame here, but this needs to be resolved.

[Bug 1956001] [NEW] cannot install miniupnpd in a minimal ubuntu installation

2021-12-29 Thread mai ling
Public bug reported:

when you install a minimal impish, nft binary is not installed
(iptables-nft is installed)

later on if you want to install miniupnpd, apt chooses miniupnpd-
iptables which delivers /etc/miniupnpd/iptables_init.sh

the existence of this script and some other conditions are then checked
by /usr/libexec/miniupnpd-startstop-helper.sh in ExecStartPre section of
the systemd service, which fails when kernel filtering backend is nft
but the userspace utilities are iptables-nft

later on when user learns from miniupnpd systemd service log that
miniupnpd-nftables must be installed as well as the nftables package,
miniupnpd-nftables cannot be installed because the apt utility attempts
to autoconfigure miniupnpd too early, a step of reconfiguration is to
start the service, which fails because installing miniupnpd-nftables
only removes miniupnpd-iptables package but does not purge it, so
/etc/miniupnpd/iptables_init.sh file remains on disk and misleads
/usr/libexec/miniupnpd-startstop-helper.sh

the exit from this insane anti-user loop is to dpkg -P miniupnpd-
iptables and reattempt installation of miniupnpd-nftables. or complete
purge of miniupnpd and manually explicitly ask for miniupnpd-nftables
and nftables packages when installing miniupnpd.

[Bug 1944711] Re: restarting systemd-logind loses all existing sessions

2021-12-29 Thread Michael Webster
Seems good to me, no more broken sessions after resuming, loginctl list
commands always output as expected. Checking org.freedesktop.login1 with
d-feet correctly shows sessions and users.

One issue I noticed, which I at first assumed was related to this issue,
is I will occasional lose my network on resume. Since this still occurs
with ubuntu3.14 perhaps they aren't related after all. Ignore this noise
if so, sorry.

[Bug 1950039] Re: ufw 0.36.1-3 introduces ordering cycle, breaking network

2021-12-29 Thread Jamie Strandboge
@juliank - where did you see these errors? I booted with a freshly
created autopkgtest jammy vm, installed the package from proposed and it
worked fine.

Please see my previous comments-- this does not seem to be a bug in ufw
since it is using the documented unit setup that systemd recommends for
firewall software (and that other firewall software use, such as
firewalld) and this has been in Debian for some time now with no bug
reports (indeed, it solved issues). Your initial report shows that lots
of other units have the ordering cycle issue that you mentioned so I'm
not sure why ufw would be singled out.

So we're all on the same page, this was the change:

-DefaultDependencies=no
-Before=network.target
+Before=network-pre.target
+Wants=network-pre.target

and I'll add this from debian/changelog:
+- use Before and Wants on network-pre.target. Per systemd documentation,
+ "network-pre.target is a target that may be used to order services
+ before any network interface is configured. Its primary purpose is for
+ usage with firewall services". Because network-pre.target is a passive
+ unit, "services that want to be run before the network is configured
+ should place Before=network-pre.target and also set
+ Wants=network-pre.target to pull it in"
+- remove DefaultDependencies=no so that we pull in default dependencies
+ for "basic system initialization". While ufw is meant to come up before
+ networking, there is no reason why it shouldn't come up after sysinit.
+ This should help make ufw startup more robust on systems that need
+  something from sysinit.

The ufw unit itself does very little unless ufw is enabled since
/lib/ufw/ufw-init exits very quickly when it is not enabled. As such, it
seems to me that the ufw upload may have uncovered a latent issue in our
early boot (but that wouldn't be a bug in ufw itself) where Ubuntu may
not be supporting the documented behavior for network-pre.target.

Finally, it has been a couple of months since this report; is it
possible to rerun wherever this was run to see if it is still an issue
(as mentioned, no bug reports in Debian and so perhaps things floated in
that resolved this)? I would rerun autopkgtests, but they all have
passed.

[Bug 1955997] [NEW] The airplane hotkey has no function on a HP platform

2021-12-29 Thread jeremyszu
Public bug reported:

In the last year, HP mentions HP machines need to use hp-wireless
(HPQ6001) as the rfkill source[1].

However, HP confirms the HPQ6001 has been retired in the platforms since
2022.

In the platforms after 2022, there are two sources of rkfill events (intel-hid,
atkbd) and HP only guarantee the intel-hid works.
Therefore, the upstream already accept the patch[2] to unmask intel-hid and
mention this big change in the NEWS.

This change makes the pre-2022 HP platforms meet the regression since they have
two rfkill events (HPQ6001 and intel-hid) be triggered if pressing function key.
Thus, there is a patch[3] to make sure the GNOME could deal with this case
smoothly.
However, the systemd change will still cause other DEs meet the regression
(xfce, KDE, lxde, etc..).
Backport systemd change to make HP 2022 platforms work is not the best choice
on stable version (focal in this case).

We still need a solution to make airplane key works on 2022 HP platforms
(intel-hid and atkbd only).
The potential solution from my mind that is to maintain a whitelist to unmask
intel-hid in ubuntu-patch in focal, something like:
```
evdev:name:Intel HID events:dmi:bvn*:bvr*:bd*:svnHP*:pnHPZBookFury16inchG9*:*
 KEYBOARD_KEY_8=wlan # Use hp-wireless instead
```
after "KEYBOARD_KEY_8=unkown".

[Bug 1915238] Re: warning: /var/spool/postfix/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt and /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt differ

2021-12-29 Thread Scott Kitterman
This is an unneeded leftover and the file in the chroot
(/var/spool/postfix) can be deleted.

When using smtp*_tls_CAfile, the smtp or smtpd daemon copies from
/etc/ssl/certs before entering the chroot (CApath is different), so it
doesn't need to be there. We stopped copying the file into the chroot
in 3.4.7-1, but didn't clean up the old one. I've committed a change to
the Debian postfix git repository, which will be in the next Debian
upload, to do this.

It works fine in the Live USB but after installing the OS, the keyboard and

[Bug 1947294] Re: MyPaint crashes/freezes after interacting with its interface

2021-12-29 Thread Arto Huusko
For me this is reproducible on 21.10, so this should be reopened.

Using the popups (e.g. brush selection) seem to only lose control of
mouse input. When mouse is unresponse, the keyboard is still responsive:
pressing B opens the brush selection, pressing Shift shows the guide
text at bottom toolbar, etc.

Sometimes activating controls using keyboard also brings back mouse
control, but I did not find a reliable procedure for this.

Starting mypaint from terminal displays sometimes but not always:

(mypaint:19562): Gdk-WARNING **: 11:29:21.910: Tried to unmap the parent
of a popup

[Bug 1955981] [NEW] pieces of text not printed at all

2021-12-29 Thread pavel heimlich
Public bug reported:

When I try to print the pdf from
https://ukestuff.files.wordpress.com/2021/12/beginners-guide-to-playing-chord-melodies.pdf
some pages are not printed correctly, some pieces of text are completely
missing from the page - some are just blank, some look like deleted (the text
that follows is shifted left).

I can reproduce this with evince and atril. The pdf prints fine from okular and
firefox.
This is happening with pages 13 and onward of this file, even when trying to
print them one by one.

E.g. in the attached photo, left is page 14 printed from evince, right
is printed from okular. Note the missing letters TAB, missing note
numbers, missing pause character on line 3 and deleted song name before
the words 'was a 1957 hit'.

atril 1.24.0 (Using poppler/cairo (0.86.1) and SyncTeX 1.21)
evince 3.36.10
okular 1.9.3
Firefox 95.0.1
The printer is Brother HL1110.

[Bug 1907782] Re: ERROR Service took too long to respond. Disconnecting client.

2021-12-29 Thread Simon Sanladerer
I have the same issue here.

So far it seems like only zsysctl is affected and its services, so
automatic snapshotting on apt install currently does not work for me.

I do have to add that I created my own snapshot command before upgrading
anything important after having quite a few issues with the way zsysctl
does it trying to restore my system to a working state (kernel and apt-
packages staying accross restored snapshots of zsysctl).

Maybe that has something to do with it?

Linux derpmachine 5.13.0-22-lowlatency #22~20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT
Tue Nov 9 16:34:04 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

For now I dont really need it ... sanoid and my command works totally
fine the regular zfs-way.

Already restored a few times after a few broken kernel testings and
playing with different DEs.

[Bug 1955965] Re: 21.10 cannot enter desktop after blacklist nouveau driver

2021-12-29 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1955965/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
