[Bug 1956128] [NEW] xserver-xorg-video-all requires xserver-xorg-video-ati

[Bug 1956117] Re: The fonts-dejavu fonts no longer serve a purpose on a default installation

2021-12-31 Thread Erich Eickmeyer 
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one in Debian
and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the
developers of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Debian/Bugs. If you have done so, please tell us
the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch
that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

N.B. For future reference, Ubuntu packages that aren't directly sync'd
from Debian and have Ubuntu-specific changes, have a -XubuntuX suffix
(e.g. -0ubuntu1). Packages that lack this suffix, or have a -XbuildX
suffix (e.g. -1build2) are directly sync'd from Debian.

[Bug 1956127] [NEW] xorg metapackage requires xorg-docs-core

2021-12-31 Thread wontfix
Public bug reported:

xorg, a required dependency of ubuntu-desktop and ubuntu-desktop-minimal
requires the package xorg-docs-core. Currently Ubuntu 22.04 Jammy
defaults to Wayland. These docs are ancient and now most people won't
even be using X11, much less this documentation. Why is x11-docs-core
going to be required in April of 2022?

2021-12-31 Thread wontfix
Public bug reported:

xorg, a required dependency of ubuntu-desktop and ubuntu-desktop-minimal
requires the package x11-apps. Currently Ubuntu 22.04 Jammy defaults to
Wayland. These applications are ancient and now most people won't even
be using X11, much less these example applications. Why are x11-apps
going to be required in April of 2022?

[Bug 1956124] [NEW] wpasupplicant is a required package for most desktop metapackages

2021-12-31 Thread wontfix
Public bug reported:

Many people and business not use or require wireless internet or WiFi
encryption on many types of machines. They may actively not want their
business or institutional environment to have access to WiFi at all
where manual hardware removal is too much effort. Requiring these
packages significantly increases the effort required to ensure their
desires are enforced. For hobbyists or students using wired ARM or x86
boards, such requirements increase the footprint on sometimes small eMMC
or SD storage devices.

[Bug 1956122] [NEW] Horizontal application menu scrolling and placement ruined usability options and intuitive usage

2021-12-31 Thread wontfix
Public bug reported:

Previously, vertical scrolling was in place. The benefit was familiarity
for people coming from other platforms. The horizontal swipe also is
less natural in comparison to up and down for a seek. Using the mouse
wheel, you now scroll in the opposite way you see the screen move. Also
lost is the ability to use arrow keys.

We read right to left, up to down. This is no longer possible due to
further additions above this space.

[Bug 1939347] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freeze since kernel 5.11

2021-12-31 Thread kapper1224
Hello Everyone.
In ArchLinux, they have the problem from kernel 5.10 and I tried it.
Ubuntu has the same problem, I think it.
Let's check it.

Add guc paramters to kernel parameters by editing /etc/default/grub

 GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="i915.enable_guc=2"

Add guc option to i915 module by adding /etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf file
with :

 options i915 enable_guc=2

Add i915 to /etc/mkinitcpio.conf :

 MODULES=(i915)

[Bug 1956121] [NEW] Default workspace selector is using too much screen real estate

2021-12-31 Thread wontfix
Public bug reported:

By being implemented horizontally, the workspace selector is highly
inefficient in pixel usage. The default of two is using an incredible
amount of real estate given the amount of default applications. If it
were vertical and on the right hand side, it would use far less total
pixels for the same size viewport.

This creates an additional "problem" in that it also changes the
orientation of the application scrolling from vertical to horizontal in
order for it to even pretend to make sense.

[Bug 1955760] [NEW] Kernel fails to recognize touchpad, also no wifi

2021-12-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After working perfectly for over a year the touchpad and wifi on my
HUAWEI MateBook X Pro 2020 (MACHC-WAE9LP) suddenly stopped working (no
response at all from touchpad).

``cat proc/version`` gives:
Linux version 5.13.0-21-generic (buildd@lgw01-amd64-043) (gcc (Ubuntu
9.3.0-17ubuntu1~20.04) 9.3.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu) 2.34)
#21-20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 26 15:49:20 UTC 2021

This problem first occured the 6. of December, after not using ubuntu for a
couple of days (I have both windows and ubuntu in dual boot). Both the touchpad
and wifi works fine in windows.

When following the instructions on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection#generalinfo, I found
that ``cat /proc/bus/input/devices`` does not include a touchpad.
According to the wiki this is because the kernel fails to recognize the
touchpad.

I also noticed some status messages printed to the screen during
booting, which has not been the case before the problem occured. It
consists of a lot of these messages:

| OK | Started ...some process...
| OK | Finished ...some process...

And ends with:

/dev/nvme0n1p2: clean: 136/38523392 files, 18658438/122878312 blocks

I have not done much research on the wifi issue yet.

[Bug 1956029] Re: ufw remains inactive at boot time

2021-12-31 Thread Myron Szymanskyj
Sorted out the issue. I've got systemd to also wait for ufw to load when
starting fail2ban.

Fail2ban issues a many iptables commands in rapid succession and then
it's database of banned IPs is large it takes a considerable amount of
time for the firewall to be initialised. In the meanwhile anything
issuing iptables commands quite likely fail as is it not possible to
have more than one instance of iptables active at any one time.

ufw script completes its tasks quickly so makes sense to force that
service to start before the fail2ban service.

Thanks for the report. I’ll add Hebrew to the build list.

(On a tangential note, the Hebrew localization is incomplete. The

[Bug 1956103] [NEW] Ubuntu Server image doesn't include common USB drivers / modules

2021-12-31 Thread Matthew
Public bug reported:

I tried using Ubuntu Server 21.10 (32 Bit) on a Raspberry Pi 3b but some
common USB devices didn't work. On closer inspection the kernel modules
were missing -

Common USB serial adapters: ftdi_sio,pl2303
Common USB modems including 3G Dongles: cdc_acm

I understand the Ubuntu Server image is meant to be lightweight but I
think these devices are common enough to include support for.

Thanks!

[Bug 1956101] [NEW] BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 00000000000006c8

2021-12-31 Thread Lars
Public bug reported:

I am trying to get rid of the bug#1906476, so I installed a new Ubuntu/Impish
on another Disk with an unencrypted rpool followed the tutorial at
https://openzfs.github.io/openzfs-docs/Getting%20Started/Ubuntu/Ubuntu%2020.04%20Root%20on%20ZFS.html

After installation I copied the most from the encrypted disk to the unencrypted
one via booting from stick, importing encrypted rpool and unencrypted rpool and
using rsync.
The first reboot into the new disk hits another Bug:

Hi, Marin.

I *have* edited the configuration file, but the "deborphan" default has
just caused a lot of damage on multiple systems where I use
"upgrade-system" it appears to have overwritten my edited config files
during a recent upgrade and, as I reported, "deborphan" removed a large
number of packages from five of my servers where I have installed
"med-bio" and "med-bio-dev" from the Debian-Med project. I edited the
config file after initially running "upgrade-system" precisely because
of this.

I'm surprised that nobody else has been bitten by this bug!

Bye,

   Tony.

[Bug 1956093] Re: Some Fn+F* and dot keys on keyboard stop working after resume from suspend mode

2021-12-31 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1956093/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1899294] Re: Não consigo atualizar

2021-12-31 Thread JOSE LIMA DA SILVA JUNIOR

tente a atualização novamente.

Se nada disto servir, então por favor comunique a falha usando o comando
'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' no terminal. Se você quiser
investigar isto por si os ficheiros de registro em '/var/log/dist-
upgrade' contém detalhes sobre a atualização. Olhe especialmente para
'main.log' e 'apt.log'.

[Bug 1824650] Re: Ubuntu freezes when AC 430 WiFi Dongle is plugged in

2021-12-31 Thread Rico Heartstrings
Hello everyone,

I'll add the DMESG file so you can see how the dongle should ideally be
loaded. I also saw in the boot log of Windows that the driver fwlanusb6
is addressed, maybe this information is helpful for troubleshooting..

It seems to me that the stick checks if the operating system is Windows.
If it is, it grants access to the EEPROM of the stick. If the operating
system is not Windows, EEPROM access is denied. This could also explain
why it only works for a restart, but not for a "cold start". However, it
may just be a guess.

Attached patch adds python3-future as a dependency also for 20.04.

** Patch added: "dependency.debdiff"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cpuset/+bug/1907881/+attachment/5550469/+files/dependency.debdiff

** Description changed:

  Stable Release Update:

  [impact]
cset fails to run without python3-future installed.

This is a minor fix which already is present in newer Ubuntu releases.
+
+ As mentioned in the comments below, the SRU is needed only in Focal,
+ though I don't have permission to target the series.

  [test plan]
  sudo apt install cpuset
  cset --help
  #Should run without error message.

  [Where problems could occur]

Minimal regression potential. As this is only adding an extra dependency it
is otherwise equivalent of a no-change rebuild.
The binary packages have no other reverse dependencies.
-

  Original report:

This package for focal seems to miss a dependency.
  Namely python3-futures.

  Reproducing the bug

  Reproducable Docker file:
Built with "docker build . -t csettest"

  FROM ubuntu:focal

RUN apt update && apt install -y cpuset

  ENTRYPOINT ["cset", "--help"]
  ---

  Running the docker file:

  ---
$ docker run --rm -it csettest

  Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/bin/cset", line 44, in
    from cpuset.main import main
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/cpuset/main.py", line 7, in

  Possible fix with python3-future

[Bug 1907881] Re: cpuset package missing dependency in focal

2021-12-31 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for reporting.

I found a corresponding bug report in Debian, and the extra dependency
has been added in the version available in Ubuntu 21.04, so newer
releases are fixed at least. However, 20.04 is still affected, so I'll
try to prepare a debdeff for a Stable Release Update.

(From my testing 18.04 was not affected. Presumably this uses an older
version before cpuset started using python3-future)

As a workaround in the meantime, manually install python3-future.

[Bug 1956090] [NEW] Not possible to choose which admin should enter password

2021-12-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Environment Ubuntu 20.04 fully upgraded.

Pretty low likelihood but if a system has more than one admin, when a
user (admin or not) needs to perform an action that require
administration permission a pop up cames on and require a password for a
specific admin user, usually the first historically created, and it's
not possible to choose another admin, a couple of examples.

1 - I would like to create a new admin and get rid of the old one, see
attachment
I downloaded a pre-cooked ubuntu version to test it
- as osboxes.org I created user Luca (admin)
- logout and login as Luca
- open settings and get rid of osboxes.org

Expected: the window should ask password for my user, since I'm admin, or
should let me choose which admin should enter the password to confirm
Actual: the window ask me for osboxes.org password, no chance to change user

2 - Use case see in office - A computer has 1 normal account and 2 admins
account
This person have not admin priviledges so that to make some actions is require
to enter admin password. Two admins are me (Luca) and an other one (Ale)
Sometimes happens that if system ask for a specific user, and user is not in
the office is not possible to proceed this way.

Of course no issue in acting via command line for every action, but it's
a bad UX and somtimes could happen in a worst situation.
