[Bug 1955015] Re: package mysql-common 5.8+1.0.5ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-common package post-removal script subprocess returned error exit status 2
Hi Billy, you did not attach the error logs of mysql nor the logs of the apt terminal output (both would by default be provided by apport). Without those no one is able to act and try to understand what happened to your install/upgrade of mysql. Is that issue persistent throughout a re-upgrade/install of the mysql package? Could you show us exactly the commands you use and the output you get? Finally in the DpkgHistoryLog I saw you tried to install `mysql- community-server`, those are packages provided by the mysql project and not under support or control by Ubuntu. ** Summary changed: - package mysql-common 5.8+1.0.5ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-common package post-removal script subprocess returned error exit status 2 + Failed to install - mysql-community-server ** Changed in: mysql-defaults (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1955015 Title: Failed to install - mysql-community-server To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-defaults/+bug/1955015/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, thanks for your report and your help to make Ubuntu better. Services have to be restarted on upgrades to pick up the new code. In your case from your log it seems that mysql started, but was unable to stop/restart well: Error: Unable to shut down server with process id 15798 Sadly the attached mysql error log is from a later restart, and does not show what failed back then. Have you had a look if the past of that logfile has more information that might be useful? It might be related to your local setup being phpmyadmin or anything else, or even just a system overload at the wrong time. If by now you have resolved it by just unmasking/starting mysql again then there should be nothing left to do to resolve. I'm marking this incomplete, if this still is an issue continue to answer the questions I had above. But if you are happy with it as-is now, then we can just let it expire giving others a chance to chime in if needed. P.S. none of the errors seems to match, but I'm slightly wondering about "Too many levels of symbolic links: '/etc/mysql/my.cnf'" is that a custom setup adding a recursive link there? ** Changed in: mysql-8.0 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Summary changed: - package mysql-server-8.0 8.0.27-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-server-8.0 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1 + Upgrade error - Unable to shut down server with process id -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1955172 Title: Upgrade error - Unable to shut down server with process id To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-8.0/+bug/1955172/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1955347] Re: rsync works bad with encfs now
Hi, I'm not 100% sure but to me that is a setup and configuration issue with the new version being a bit more insisting that it can read/access paths it is supposed to back up. The new behavior can be disabled with --ignore-errors, but I'm tempted to consider this dangerous as you could have any other I/O error and it would still delete things. [Bug 1126858]
(In reply to NISZ LibreOffice Team from comment #23) > Created attachment 159953 [details] > Screenshot of Word and Writer side by side after following the steps > > Still happens in: > > Version: 7.0.0.0.alpha0+ (x64) > [...] > > Also: this behavior is the same as in Word. As noted by NISZ LibreOffice Team, the behaviour is very much similar i Word: Also in Word, Search & Replace while showing track-changes, does search within deleted text and replaces with non-deleted text. Just tested with MS Office 365. I can see why it can sometimes be relevant to search also in deleted text, e.g. to find where you (or a colleague) deleted something. And if you do not want this, just turn off showing track-changes. But I fail to see why anybody would want already-deleted text to be part of replacing. (Even before the problems of doing more than one search & replace, leading to several instances of the new text.) Well, failing the see the use could be just my lack of imagination. So: Can anybody come up with a case where searching within deleted text and replacing with new text would be the intended behaviour? Put another way: Can anybody see a reason why this would NOT be a bug (happening to be shared by LO and MS Office)? PS: Word notes the user that "We are through searching the document" after one pass, so the user will at least know that if s/he continues replacing, it will be in text that had already been considered. This will stop most users from repeated replacement, but does not change the question how replacing at all in deleted text could be the intended behaviour. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1126858 Title: [upstream] Search and replace, with tracked changes on, changing only format of text, causes Writer to hang To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/df-libreoffice/+bug/1126858/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for the info Michael, without steps to reproduce I see two paths from here. ## #1 trying different versions As Paride asked it might be worth to check different versions. There is no super-convenient way to downgrade bind9 You can add all of Bionics (or any other release in between cosmic, disco, eoan) to apt like: root@f:~# cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/bionic.list root@f:~# vim /etc/apt/sources.list.d/bionic.list # herein replace all "focal" with bionic root@f:~# apt update root@f:~# apt-cache policy bind9 bind9: Installed: (none) Candidate: 1:9.16.1-0ubuntu2.9 Version table: 1:9.16.1-0ubuntu2.9 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security/main amd64 Packages 1:9.16.1-0ubuntu2 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages 1:9.11.3+dfsg-1ubuntu1.16 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-security/main amd64 Packages 1:9.11.3+dfsg-1ubuntu1 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages # A downgrade to bionics 9.11.3 would then be: root@f:~# v=1:9.11.3+dfsg-1ubuntu1.16; apt install bind9=$v bind9utils=$v # Warning, this might mess up your dependencies and installed packages, I'd recommend doing this on a test system or with a full backup to restore after testing. ## #2 Full debugging As you report that your offsets seem to be reliable aou could try to attach a full crash of bind9 if it generates one. So if there is /var/crash/...bind9...crash then try running $ sudo apport-collect 1954854 That should attach all logs and version information. Then (if not auto-attached) add the crash file as well. We could then try to get a full gdb backtrace, maybe that indicates an obvious issue or an error known by upstream. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1954854 Title: bind 9.16.1-ubuntu on ubuntu 20.04 randomly exits with segfault signal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bind9/+bug/1954854/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1956225] [NEW] system ubuntu 20 not upgrade
Public bug reported: After updating your package information, the essential package 'ubuntu-minimal' could not be located. [Bug 1880246] Re: Java desktop application freezes with openjdk 8u252
From now, I solved it when running Arduino IDE. The process is as following: 1. Uninstall the IDE 2. Delete `Arduino/` and `.arduino15/` in `~`. 3. Reinstall. And it never freezes again. I guess maybe it is due to the fact that I changed my java environment without updating the preferences of the app. Taking Arduino IDE as an example, there is preferences.txt in `.arduino15/`. When simply installing a new IDE or uninstalling the original one, the file isn't changed automatically. ```bash $ cat preferences.txt | grep java preproc.imports.list=java.applet.*,java.awt.Dimension,java.awt.Frame,java.awt.event.MouseEvent,java.awt.event.KeyEvent,java.awt.event.FocusEvent,java.awt.Image,java.io.*,java.net.*,java.text.*,java.util.*,java.util.zip.*,java.util.regex.* ``` My current enviroment is Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS, 5.7.0-050700rc7-generic, java version "17.0.1" 2021-10-19 LTS. So maybe the bug only affects openjdk 8u252. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1880246 Title: Java desktop application freezes with openjdk 8u252 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjdk-8/+bug/1880246/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1956169] Re: Cannot install libvirt-dev on Ubuntu 20.04 / focal Dependency conflict - needs repackage
Hi James, I did a recheck but the repositories look fine to me here. On a system with -release, -updates, -security pockets and a PPA I see all of them are available. root@f:~# apt-cache policy libvirt-dev libvirt0 libvirt-dev: Installed: (none) Candidate: 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.15 Version table: 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.15 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/universe amd64 Packages 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.15~focalppa1 500 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/ci-train-ppa-service/4717/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.3 500 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security/universe amd64 Packages 6.0.0-0ubuntu8 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/universe amd64 Packages libvirt0: Installed: 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.15 Candidate: 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.15 Version table: *** 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.15 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.15~focalppa1 500 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/ci-train-ppa-service/4717/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.3 500 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security/main amd64 Packages 6.0.0-0ubuntu8 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages Important here is that these packages come from the same source package ssrc:libvirt which eliminates some common issues here e.g. when people have only enabled -security but something in -security depends on something else in -updates. That is not the case in my recheck nor in your output. And then the packages always depend on their own version. root@f:~# apt-cache show libvirt-dev | grep -e '^Version' -e '^Depends' Version: 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.15 Depends: libvirt0 (= 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.15), libxen-dev Version: 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.15~focalppa1 Depends: libvirt0 (= 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.15~focalppa1), libxen-dev Version: 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.3 Depends: libvirt0 (= 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.3), libxen-dev Version: 6.0.0-0ubuntu8 Depends: libvirt0 (= 6.0.0-0ubuntu8), libxen-dev So libvirt-dev and libvirt0 come from the same build and are in the same pockets. So whenever you have a newer libvirt-dev you should also always have the matching libvirt0 version. We can see in the build log https://launchpadlibrarian.net/570248781/buildlog_ubuntu-focal-amd64.libvirt_6.0.0-0ubuntu8.15_BUILDING.txt.gz that both packages built fine and that the dependency there is right. There are only two things I could think of right now: 1. something is holding back libvirt0 to an older version via a dependency 2. generally out of date or broken repository information Your output more likely points to #2 You list: $ sudo apt-cache policy libvirt-dev libvirt0 libxen-dev libvirt-dev: 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.3 500 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security/universe amd64 Packages 6.0.0-0ubuntu8 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/universe amd64 Packages libvirt0: *** 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.15 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.3 500 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security/main amd64 Packages 6.0.0-0ubuntu8 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Seeing libvirt0 from focal-update shows that you have the -updates pocket configured. But the matching version of libvirt-dev would come from the very same repository. IMHO the real question will be why your system does not see/recognize libvirt-dev 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.15. I'm tempted to assume that just an "apt update" to refresh the repo data would clean that up. I guess you tried that already, but does the "apt-cache policy" output stay stable and continues missing the new libvirt-dev package throughout an `apt update`? ** Changed in: libvirt (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956169 Title: Cannot install libvirt-dev on Ubuntu 20.04 / focal Dependency conflict - needs repackage To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1956169/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
