[Bug 1959529] Re: IBM IDAA customer exposes hipersocket page allocation failure on Ubuntu 20.04 based SSC

2022-01-30 Thread Frank Heimes
A simple cherry-pick of commit 714c91088517 does not apply cleanly.
Even if the commit itself is relatively small, the code in qeth_core_main.c has
obviously changed significantly between kernel 5.7 (where the commit got
upstream accepted) and focal's 5.4.
Hence it's indeed a backport of commit 714c91088517 to focal's master-next tree
needed.

[Bug 1846205] Re: Please add configuration option to show / hide mounted drives in Ubuntu Dock

2022-01-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-control-center - 1:41.1-1ubuntu3

---
gnome-control-center (1:41.1-1ubuntu3) jammy; urgency=medium

  [ Marco Trevisan (Treviño) ]
  * debian/patches: Refresh
  * d/p/u/display-Allow-fractional-scaling-to-be-enabled.patch:
Ensure renderer is initialized.
It may not be the case when running with non-patched mutter, so not a
bug, but this helps in development scenarios.
  * d/p/u/Allow-tweaking-some-settings-for-Ubuntu-Dock.patch:
- Do not crash if gedit is not installed
  * ubuntu-panel: Save dock monitor by connector and support primary monitor
Dash to dock used to use the shell's monitor ID to pick the monitor in
which should be used, however this is not something that worked well
in case one switches configuration or uses a laptop in different
scenarios as the dock may be moved to the wrong display.
As per this:
 - Add a "Primary monitor" item, to bind the dock position to the
   primary monitor (whatever it is)
 - Store the selected monitor by its connector
 - Add backward compatibility support for the old 'preferred-monitor'
   key, and migrate to it.
Related to: https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/pull/1630
  * multitasking-panel: Sync workspace and monitor isolation dock settings.
When using ubuntu-dock the multitasking panel setting doesn't fully
apply, because even though the user selects to isolate workspaces, the
dock may still continue to show icons from all the workspaces.
As per this, ensure that the settings are applied also to the dock, plus
include dock-specifc settings to control multi-monitor behavior.
  * ubuntu-panel: Use libhandy widgets for the dock section.
This will help with Gtk and libadwaita porting in future, so let's just
such widgets that are also more integrated with the current g-c-c design
  * ubuntu-panel: Use more modern libadwaita widgets for dock settings.
This should make gtk4 porting even easier, plus we can be more consitent
with the majority of other g-c-c panels.
  * ubuntu-panel: Add dock specific dialog to control.
Add a dock settings dialog to control some more specific settings.
So far we only support toggling the visualization of device and trash
icons, but this could be extended more in future. (LP: #1846205)

  [ Muqtxdir ]
  * ubuntu-panel: Improve appearance-page to use more consistent look
- Make use of HdyPrefrencesPage for Appearance-panel.
- Make use of HdyPrefrencesGroup for Window colors.
- Make use of custom css style classes from appearance.css
- Update the light/dark variant preview images (LP: #1943849)

[Bug 1958591] Re: [amdgpu] Random noise 'static' display after internal display turned off/on

2022-01-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
> Personally I'd have assumed anything described as "flickering" to be
different

James, it is common for people reporting bugs to choose their words
somewhat inaccurately. "Flicker" is often used by people to describe
graphical bugs that are not flicker.

[Bug 1870597] Re: libinput says "your system is too slow"

2022-01-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I see the messages with higher numbers than 20ms in some bug reports so
the above change won't really solve it, just reduce the number of people
who see the message.

Luckily, gnome-shell 40 in Ubuntu 21.10 and gnome-shell 41/42 in Ubuntu
22.04 changes the input system to fix more cases. Maybe not 100%
still...

The kernel bug also sounds very relevant:

[Bug 1869272] Re: [Wishlist] Option to remove trash and home folders from desktop

2022-01-30 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@Marco: To me it looks like the Home folder is still shown on the
desktop by default, while the Trash folder is hidden via an ubuntu-
settings override.

No need for dconf-editor. Just right click the desktop, select Desktop
Icons Settings, and show/hide stuff to your liking.

signed-hwe-5.13/+bug/1958724 which is also linked to a bunch more
related issues. All seem to be AMD systems. Not marking either as
duplicates of one another to maintain proper visibility (though I think
they definitely are).

[Bug 1959522] Re: 21.10 Impish ZFS revert snapshot via grub menu fails consistently

2022-01-30 Thread Nicholas Harvey
** Description changed:

This issue seems similar to 1894329 but I can reproduce this
  consistently in 21.10.

  Problem description:
Unable to reliably revert ZFS snapshots via the Grub menu in Ubuntu 21.10.
When attempting a revert I am usually dropped to the emergency mode and have to
force a reboot. After that it can take a number of attempts to get the system
to reboot to the desktop.

  Steps to reproduce:
Install Ubuntu 21.10 on Intel 64bit with ZFS selected as the filesystem. Do
not encrypt.
Install all updates. ZFS snapshot is taken automatically.
  Reboot.
Install a simple package i.e. sudo apt install neofetch. Another ZFS snapshot
is taken automatically.
Reboot and enter the GRUB menu.
  Enter History menu.
- Select Revert to an earlier snapshot. In my case I select the snapshot taken
after neofetch was installed.
+ Select Revert to an earlier snapshot. In my case I select the snapshot taken
before neofetch was installed.
Select install system files only. Do not select the recovery mode option.
System now boots and ends up dropping into emergency mode.

I can duplicate this on three different installs.

-
  Expected outcome:
The snapshot is correctly reverted and the system boots without user
interaction into the snapshot.

[Bug 1959527] [NEW] Behringer UMC22 lost capture support

2022-01-30 Thread Ohad Lutzky
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu release: 21.10
alsa-base version: 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu7
Kernel version: 5.13.0-27-generic #29-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jan 12 17:36:47 UTC 2022
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have a Behringer U-Phoria UMC22 USB audio device, which in previous
versions of Ubuntu correctly supports both output and capture. Upon
upgrading to 21.10, it has lost capture support. The hardware itself
still captures correctly, verified on a ChromeOS device.

The result of running alsa-info is here: http://alsa-
project.org/db/?f=29a30af604267a2dc591610d06fce3175b379b86

The relevant device is "USB Audio CODEC" (this is how it was identified
in previous versions of Ubuntu as well, as well as ChromeOS). Indeed,
under "Mixer controls for card CODEC", there is no capture channel.

Indeed, Settings->Sound doesn't show this device as an input option. It
works fine as an output option. I would expect this to show up as an
input option, as it did with previous versions of ubuntu.

[Bug 1883357] Re: Can't create new user in Kubuntu 20.04

2022-01-30 Thread X
Same problem, getting tired of having to come here every time I try to
carry out a basic task with GUI, just to find out it will never be
fixed. What a joke. At this point I consider Gnome, KDE etc. as
experimental beta-quality software. If you want to get anything done on
linux, learn to use the command line for everything, except maybe
searching the internet constantly for whatever cryptic command, option,
syntax you need next. And have fun remembering it all. Sorry this isn't
helpful.

[Bug 1938894] Re: [SRU] tracking bug for plasma 5.18.6 & 5.18.7 & 5.18.8 bugfix updates

2022-01-30 Thread Rik Mills
** Description changed:

[SRU] tracking bug for plasma 5.18.6 & 5.18.7 bugfix update

Only source packages from 5.18.6, 5.18.7 and 5.18.8 that actually
contain bugfixes are included in this SRU. All other sources packages
will stay at the current archive versions.
+
+ 5.18.6 changelog:
https://kde.org/announcements/changelogs/plasma/5/5.18.5-5.18.6/
+ 5.18.7 changelog:
https://kde.org/announcements/changelogs/plasma/5/5.18.6-5.18.7/
+ 5.18.8 changelog:
https://kde.org/announcements/changelogs/plasma/5/5.18.7-5.18.8/
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ * Without this update, general users who are not inclined or able to
+ add our backports/update ppa will not receive this bugfix release of the
+ Plasma 5.18 LTS series
+
+ * Providing this bugfix release via the official update pocket in the
+ archive will ensure that the bugfixes here reach and benefit most of our
+ users. This is particularly important for a Kubuntu and Plasma LTS
+ release
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * General tests:
+ - Does plasma desktop start as normal with no apparent regressions over the
current archive versions?
+ - General workflow - testers should carry out their normal tasks, using the
plasma features they normally do, and test common subsystems such as audio,
settings changes, compositing, desktop affects, suspend etc.
+
+ * Specific tests:
+ - Check the changelog:
+ - Identify items with front/user facing changes capable of specific
testing. e.g. "[weather] Fix weather Notices tab not showing."
+- Test the 'fixed' functionality.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ * As we are looking at fixes to an integrated desktop, the places and
+ types of problems that could occur are numerous. This could vary from
+ some users (say for example on some hardware) finding their desktop no
+ longer starts, right down to minor unintended new UI bugs. This is why
+ when testing it is important to not just verify the named fixes, but
+ carry on a normal workflow and note any issues that might be new.

[Bug 1959343] Re: deprecation of the Canonical partner archive

2022-01-30 Thread Steve Langasek
Thanks, @khurshid-alam. I have pushed a new bzr branch to
lp:~unity7maintainers/ubuntu-seeds/ubuntu-unity.jammy/ that includes the
change to drop app-install-data-partner, and am regenerating the ubuntu-
unity-meta package via update.

Note that in general since the metapackages are automatically generated
aside from update.cfg, we tend not to bother with git branches for these
but treat the archive as authoritative; the seeds are the important
thing to have stored in a VCS. (And if your team is comfortable with
git, perhaps you want to consider moving the seeds from bzr to git, as
we've done for ubuntu-meta and many others...)
