[Bug 1962133] [NEW] Intermittent very low fps(sometimes zero) with few specific h264 and h265 RTSP input streams sources when used with gst-v4l2 based gstreamer-1.0(version gst-1.14.5) decode pipeline
Public bug reported: Few specific h264 and h265 RTSP input streams sources when used with nvidia specific gst-v4l2 based gstreamer-1.0 (version gst-1.14 and ubuntu-18.04) decode pipeline intermittently yields very low fps (in the range of [~0/1 fps]). Issue seems caused by the gst_video_decoder_drain_out function erroneously getting called inside gst_video_decoder_chain_forward function. [Bug 1951490] Re: Can't print after update to 4.13
BTW one thing to be careful to not mix is here is minor and sub-minor version. The patch mentions to only be for 4.15 and earlier. This matches [1] saying "rpc_server Removed". But while the .17 might be misleading at first it is 4.13.17 that it in focal and impish - so the .13 matters here. And those need a fix. You can also see that in the man-page which for all these (pre 4.16) will mention "Default: rpc_server:SERVER = embedded". We can see that Upstream prepares those for the next stable releases, but not 4.13 AFAICS: $ git log --all --grep="dcesrv_core: wrap gensec_" --oneline # plus adding which branch they are on: v4-16-stable 20f84f11651 dcesrv_core: wrap gensec_*() calls in [un]become_root() calls v4-15-test e26270cbe58 dcesrv_core: wrap gensec_*() calls in [un]become_root() calls v4-14-test 9e3c363030d dcesrv_core: wrap gensec_*() calls in [un]become_root() calls master 0651fa474cd dcesrv_core: wrap gensec_*() calls in [un]become_root() calls dev-branch ed345c6bc34 dcesrv_core: wrap gensec_*() calls in [un]become_root() calls So for 4.15 (jammy) we could just wait to 4.15.6 - but then the SRU requires it to be fixed there first and we do not know when this will be released. So the approach from here should IMHO be to prep: 9e3c363030d -> 4.13.17 -> Focal 9e3c363030d -> 4.13.17 -> Impish e26270cbe58 -> 4.15.5 -> Jammy Based on the backport by Marc I have prepared how I'd think a Focal upload could look like. => https://code.launchpad.net/~paelzer/ubuntu/+source/samba/+git/samba/+ref/fix-printing-1951490-focal TODO: - check and adopt my branch - map the same for Impish and Jammy - upload for Jammy - Prepare SRU template - upload to -unapproved [1]: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_4.16_Features_added/changed ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Assignee: Christian Ehrhardt (paelzer) => (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1951490 Title: Can't print after update to 4.13 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/samba/+bug/1951490/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1957932] Re: [MIR] rustc, cargo
I reviewed rustc 1.57.0+dfsg1+llvm-0ubuntu2 as checked into jammy (but also peeked briefly at 1.58.1+dfsg1~ubuntu1-0ubuntu1~ppa5 in Simon's ppa). This shouldn't be considered a full audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability, and this is a bit more streamlined review than normal due to the nature of Rust. Rust is a programming language and runtime environment that is intended to be a modern systems language. In general, the Ubuntu Security team views more widespread usage of Rust as a positive thing; the primary drawback being, like Go before it, the choice to static link everything makes security updates more challenging for both the deliverer and users on limited bandwidth. The Built-Using: mechanism at least gives us a chance to determine what needs to be rebuilt when a rust library has a security vulnerability that needs addressing. In order to get Built-Using: applied to Rust applications in jammy, does this mean that every Rust application needs at a minimum a no-change rebuild before jammy is released? If so, is there a plan for that? I'd like to ask what is the support expectation and commitment from the Foundations team for the rust toolchain and the separated out LLVM: - Is the expectation that version bumps of rust, possibly along with version bumps of LLVM necessary, will be brought back to 22.04 LTS? - If so, does the source package need a versioned name, as done for other toolchains? - As more thing depend on rust either wholly or partially (e.g. the ongoing work on the Linux kernel), is there an expectation this will change for 24.04 LTS? For CVE history, there are 21 CVEs in the security team's tracker that affect Rust, 20 in the standard library. (There is also a very recent additional issue that affects the vendored copy of rust-crossbeam in the rustc source package.) Generally, upstream looks responsive to security issues. Given all the above, the Ubuntu Security provisionally acks rustc for main, assuming the questions above can be answered. ** Changed in: rustc (Ubuntu) Assignee: Ubuntu Security Team (ubuntu-security) => (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1957932 Title: [MIR] rustc, cargo To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cargo/+bug/1957932/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1951490] Re: Can't print after update to 4.13
After talking with Marc and reading into the case a bit more this is a coincidence that it fails with the 4.17 update [1] in Nov 2021. Instead it seems it is caused by the "Windows 7 with 2021-10 monthly rollup patch (KB5006743)" and similar in the same time-frame. Nevertheless worth to be fixed, just it will have to be a normal SRU. Taking back the security assignment and the Server Team will try to drive a normal SRU for this. Since the upload by mdeslaur to the security PPA is now partially in Focal already (the 2:4.13.17~dfsg-0ubuntu0.21.04.1 part of it) the LP debdiff is odd. I'm hereby attaching just the added delta on top that worked. IMHO that is almost ready, just some deb3-headers and creating a good SRU template here in the bug. @Sebastian - thanks for testing, when this is going to be released we might need you again for this. To be clear, is this just "print from normal windows user to a samba printer" or is there anything more complex to this? [Bug 1892369] Re: Impossible to skip integrity test for ubuntu-server 20.04.1 iso
This is still completely unworkable for me. I'm installing 20.04.3 on a rack server via the LOM, and at no time while the system was starting up did I see anywhere I could set command line options - it went from the firmware talking about scanning the bus to "No Signal" to the kernel starting to boot in the space of about 3 seconds. And even if there was a splash screen that allowed me to press a key to set options as comments above imply there should be, it takes the firmware in this box two and half minutes to get to the point where the ISO is booting. So to make use of it, I'd have to be glued to my monitor for that long to make sure I didn't miss the window of how many seconds it's supposed to appear for. I could be spending more time waiting for the opportunity to press a key than I would spend answering the installer questions. As things stands, #11 appears to be the best solution I've got and I think that's absolutely ridiculous. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1892369 Title: Impossible to skip integrity test for ubuntu-server 20.04.1 iso To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/subiquity/+bug/1892369/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1936907] Re: [MIR] ADSys
I reviewed adsys 0.8 as checked into jammy. This shouldn't be considered a full audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability. As usual with golang code, there's vastly more code in the package than we've authored, and it's not feasible to review the entirety. adsys allows network administrators to include Ubuntu systems in Windows Group Policy ecosystem. There's easy support for a lot of individual tunable elements, as well as generic support for running both machine and user scripts on login, logout, etc. - CVE History: none :) - Build-Depends? Build-Depends: debhelper-compat (= 13), dh-apport, dh-golang, golang-go (>= 2:1.16~), libsmbclient-dev, libdbus-1-dev, python3, python3-samba, samba-dsdb-modules, libpam0g-dev, samba, dbus, - pre/post inst/rm scripts? mostly added automatically by dh_ helpers; registers and unregisters pam module, enables systemd units, purges and unmasks systemd units, etc. - init scripts? none - systemd units? sets up socket activation, sets up timers, refreshes policies, runs machine scripts in machine units, runs user scripts in user units - dbus services? none - setuid binaries? none - binaries in PATH? adsysd, adsysctl - sudo fragments? /etc/sudoers.d/99-adsys-privilege-enforcement is under control of the application: "%admin ALL=(ALL) !ALL\n" "%sudo ALL=(ALL:ALL) !ALL\n" contentSudo += fmt.Sprintf("\"%s\" ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL\n", e) these are very powerful; I'd appreciate a second set of eyes here :) - polkit files? yes, seems reasonable - udev rules? none - unit tests / autopkgtests? yes, many tests, run during the build - cron jobs? none, systemd timer units used instead - Build logs: the shell completion files are dumped during build, it's a bit noisy, but otherwise looks clean - Processes spawned? Yes -- pam module, copied from pam_exec.c Yes -- adsys spawned from the user manager will run scripts, seems okay - Memory management? Most is golang, safe enough pam module has some memory leaks; when reported to upstream pam_exec.c folks, they appear to be leaning towards leaking even more memory :) so probably fine. - File IO? Some issues, raised elsewhere. - Logging? pam module looked fine - Environment variable usage? NO_COLOR and KRB5CCNAME, seemed safe - Use of privileged functions? chown - Use of cryptography / random number sources etc? none - Use of temp files? none - Use of networking? grpc; to the extent I looked at it, it felt safe enough - Use of WebKit? none - Use of PolicyKit? yes, internal/authorizer/authorizer.go looks up process start time by searching *backwards* through /proc/pid/stat file for a ), then looking forward 19 fields. I didn't double-check the math but it sure sounds promising. - Any significant cppcheck results? memory leaks in pam_adsys.c, upstream for inspiration pam_exec didn't seem bothered - Any significant Coverity results? none - Any significant shellcheck results? none - Any significant bandit results? none adsys is carefully written, well-documented, and didrocks and jibel were very responsive to comments and feedback. Security team ACK for promoting adsys to main. I filed a few bugs along the way: https://github.com/grpc/grpc-go/issues/5137 https://github.com/olekukonko/tablewriter/issues/199 And some miscellaneous notes I took: Are there any conditions that can be added to adsys-boot.service to make it less likely to spam the journal every five seconds for ten hours when on an airplane? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/adsys/+bug/1961459 pam_adsys.c update_policy() arggv leak in fork() failure pam_adsys.c update_machine_policy() arggv leak in fork() failure pam_adsys.c update_machine_policy() -- status != 0 looks like it ought to work but I don't think that's how that API is supposed to be used pam_adsys.c pam_sm_open_session() -- gethostname() indentation is funny https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/adsys/+bug/1961458 [redacted] ./internal/policies/scripts/scripts.go -- typo %qto ./conf.example/adsys.yaml ./doc/5.-The-adsys-daemon.md Both these use /tmp/adsysd/ .. paths in configuration files -- is this the recommended way to use adsys? They then enabled -proposed from ports.ubuntu.com mirror, and installed openssl 1.1.1f-1ubuntu2.11. [Bug 1961910] Re: Ubuntu 22 crash when updating, broken network manager and cannot report bug
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Tags added: jammy -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1961910 Title: Ubuntu 22 crash when updating, broken network manager and cannot report bug To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1961910/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1962060] [NEW] problem in libreoffice draw
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I am running libreoffice-draw 1:6.4.2-0ubuntu3 on an amd64 cpu under Ubuntu 20.04. The desktop mgr is gnome-flashback 3.36.1-1ubuntu1 I want to change the properties of text in a textbox, but cannot see the "tools" menu, and so cannot make sub- and super-scripts, bold, etc. Also, drawings created in my previous Draw (in Ubuntu 16.04) don't import correctly - especially text objects. For example, sub- and super-scripts don't import well - instead I see lots of solid black triangles with white exclamation points. I rummaged around the web looking for solutions but found mainly old bug reports and no useful resolutions, and the "DrawGuide 7.1" under "Text Formatting" only refers to toolbars that do not appear on my screen Why, oh why, have you made things so very complicated? I understand that it is in the nature of Developers to develop, but how about (like gnome-flashback) giving the option of a slightly less capable "retro-interface" so that users don't have to fight their way through myriad changes (and bugs) to use the new version (which I haven't figured out how to avoid). It would greatly assist our productivity. Happy to discuss this further. [Bug 1962055] Re: Ubuiquity shows black boxes for installing alongside
** Description changed: Upon testing Ubuntu Studio 20.04.4's candidate image, I stumbled upon an issue in Ubiquity which makes the auto-resize functionality less than useful. In the resize portion when you determine disk allocation, only a black box was being displayed for each partition/OS. This normally shows information such as size being used and other information such as operating system in question. This information is black text, so this black box is showing black text on a black background. + + Screenshot attached.
