[Bug 1965556] Re: Gnome dialogues light on dark theme with custom highlight color

2022-03-18 Thread Treviño
This should be fixed by GNOME shell 42~beta-1ubuntu3 that is still in
proposed, even if it was uploaded together with the theme.

So should be fixed for all when that lands to main.

Yeah; as far as I've read in the upstream's bug report, this issue can
be a bit tricky to reproduce.

This patchset also fixes another bind9 issue we're seeing (bug
#1964400), so yeah, I intend to work on doing a more formal backport of
the upstream patches and filing an MP for it next week.

Thanks again for the help in verifying the fix.

Can an update for this issue be incorporated before a release?

https://github.com/stefanberger/swtpm/security/advisories/GHSA-2qgm-8xf4-3hqw

It's something Coverity spotted in our version, and I was very pleased
to see that there's already an advisory for this :) saving me some
effort.

Thanks

the current official jammy package, it was hanging again, then I
installed your ppa repo and upgraded the packages, and it worked. See

About reproducing the original issue, I don't really know how to do it. I tried
starting the container with "--dns 8.8.8.8" and this was enough to fix the
issue with the current official jammy package. I also tried with two DNS
(8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). I don't know what is so special about our corporate DNS.

Since I could validate the fix on my side, will this land in an official
jammy package update before the official release of jammy in april ?

Cheers,
Romain

[Bug 1965521] Re: named.service starts too early: Unable to fetch DNSKEY set '.': failure

2022-03-18 Thread Nick Tait
I discovered that above workaround isn't ideal when the server has
multiple network interfaces because the systemd-networkd-wait-online
command above will wait for all interfaces to reach routable status.
This may cause systemd-networkd-wait-online to timeout (after 10 seconds
as per --timeout argument), and if you then run "systemctl status
named.service", it shows a failed status for the ExecStartPre command,
which isn't ideal.

I experimented with including "--any" in the systemd-networkd-wait-
online arguments, but found this wasn't 100% reliable and TBH I'm not
entirely sure why. But for now I've resorted to including the interface
name in the above command instead, such as:

ExecStartPre=-/lib/systemd/systemd-networkd-wait-online
--interface=eno1:routable --timeout=10 --quiet

Obviously the interface name is machine-specific, which makes it
impractical to include this command as a general purpose fix in the repo
version of named.service. So I've now come to the conclusion that the
best way to fix this issue is to implement a change to BIND itself (i.e.
/usr/sbin/named), to make it retry a few times before logging the error
message above? (FYI This is outside of the realm of my skill set so I
guess I'm asking for the maintainer of BIND to determine the feasibility
of this request?)

Thanks,
Nick.

[Bug 1965601] [NEW] livefs build of ubuntukylin is not possible

2022-03-18 Thread Brian Murray
Public bug reported:

livefs builds of Ubuntu Kylin have been failing since 2022-03-02. Here's
one build log:

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/591375839/buildlog_ubuntu_jammy_amd64_ubuntukylin_BUILDING.txt.gz

The relevant portion can be seen here:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 ukui-settings-daemon : Conflicts: kylin-display-switch but 3.0.14-1 is to be
installed

ukui-settings-daemon added a conflict to kylin-display-switch but there
are additional changes that need to be made.

kylin-display-switch needs to be removed from the seed (I did that).

https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntukylin-members/ubuntu-
seeds/+git/ubuntukylin/commit/?id=ae5104b98bc9da94e9ce507ab5d85a5d14021c84

Then other items which depend on kylin-display-switch need to have those
dependencies dropped. A cursory inspection indicates that the following
binary packages also need fixing:

ubuntukylin-desktop
ukui-desktop-environment

Until these issues are addressed the daily builds will continue to fail
and subsequently UbuntuKylin is untestable.

** Affects: ubuntukylin-meta (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Changed in: ubuntukylin-meta (Ubuntu)
Milestone: None => ubuntu-22.04-beta

[Bug 1892369] Re: Impossible to skip integrity test for ubuntu-server 20.04.1 iso

2022-03-18 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Issues reproducible with ubuntu-20.04.4-live-server-amd64.iso.

Apparently, ctrl-c does not stop the integrity check anymore
because casper-md5check runs as systemd service/disconnected
from plymouth. Per [1], iiuic. -- Well, this is _not_ a bug.

So, fsck.mode=skip is the only option available.

However, there's a bug in casper-md5check that ignores that
_if_ it is the last option in /proc/cmdline (likely, if the
user adds it after '---' or deletes '---' to insert it.)

Workaround: make sure to add fsck.mode=skip before '---'.

Patch proposed [2], with technical details and testing.

[Bug 1964686] Re: Command "host non-existent-host-name" hangs forever in Ubuntu jammy

2022-03-18 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
Thanks for the reply, Romain.

I have prepared a PPA with the current bind9 package in Ubuntu Jammy +
the patches from the MR you linked. You can find it here:

https://launchpad.net/~sergiodj/+archive/ubuntu/bind9-lp1964686

Let me know if this solves the problem for you.

Although it would be nice to be able to reproduce this locally, I will
rely on your test results to move forward with an MP for this bug (which
also seems to fix
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bind9/+bug/1964400, btw).

Thanks.

[Bug 1964400] Re: host crashes with SIGABRT in isc_assertion_failed()

2022-03-18 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
Upstream has merged the fix for this bug:

https://gitlab.isc.org/isc-
projects/bind9/-/commit/da0d85d7483437e110111025399ec7fc9bf6ff30

I've been trying to reproduce it using a Jammy container, but so far I
haven't been able to. I'm running the "host -v" command in a loop, but
it never seems to crash.

Anyway, I've talked to Athos and reassigned the bug to myself. I will
prepare an MP for it soon, but I'd like to be able to reproduce the bug
first. I will keep investigating here.

The latest BleachBit 4.4.0 is here https://www.bleachbit.org/

Ubuntu has a "no rolling release" policy, so the version in the Ubuntu
repository may be rather old.

[Bug 1965562] Re: Bad password when unlocking disk (cryptsetup failed)

2022-03-18 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1965562/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1965589] [NEW] Impish update: upstream stable patchset 2022-03-18

2022-03-18 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

[Bug 1965535] Re: Stop recommending snap

2022-03-18 Thread Avamander
It's also worth pointing out how snap does not offer feature parity. VA-
API and native-component extensions are broken to this day with Chromium
snap, for four years now. The latter meaning that entire countries can
not use chromium snap if they wish to use their national authentication
and signature system on the web. Broken for millions of potential users
and nobody cares.

Seeing how shipping fully-working software seems not doable with snaps,
recommending it as a default is an user-hostile decision at this point
in time.

[Bug 1964636] Re: Incorrect handling of apparmor `bpf` capability

2022-03-18 Thread John Johansen
@maciek-borzecki the parser can change its behavior based on a few things.
1. the kernel its built against. This would not change behavior when run in a
container vs at system level.

2. If a feature-file is specified, via --features-file, --policy-
features, or --kernel-features. This allows overriding the normal policy
and kernel examination that the parser does when compiling policy.

3. If /sys/kernel/security/apparmor/features is not available. The
parser will fallback to an old set of features available in a kernel
before the kernel module started exporting what the kernel module
supports on the running kernel.

[Bug 1965535] Re: Stop recommending snap

2022-03-18 Thread Forest
+1

For the record, Snap being forced upon users for critical packages is
the primary reason why I recently dropped Ubuntu and stopped
recommending the distro to others, after using it for over 15 years.

Container-based packaging has its place. Snap has some interesting
features compared to FlatPak and AppImage. However, none of them are
suitable replacements for deb & apt, and this is really driven home when
they're used for core packages like the web browser. Snap in particular
has multiple fundamental design and implementation problems that make it
intolerable.

[Bug 1964636] Re: Incorrect handling of apparmor `bpf` capability

2022-03-18 Thread Stéphane Graber
The warning message:
"""
Warning from stdin (line 1): apparmor_parser: Warning capping number of jobs to
0 * # of cpus == '16'
"""

Is caused by a LXCFS bug which we've since fixed. Systems still showing
this message are in need of a snap refresh and host reboot.

It's quite likely that the warning is somehow causing apparmor_parser to
exit non-zero which would be the core of the issue here.

[Bug 1964732] Re: [FFe] Include Desktop Icons Appearance Settings

2022-03-18 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

In Jammy the default desktop extension is providing lots settings in a
poorly integrated way, accessible from right-click:

  https://i.imgur.com/boMhCrH.png

  We got a community contribution
- (https://gitlab.gnome.org/Community/Ubuntu/gnome-conyol-
+ (https://gitlab.gnome.org/Community/Ubuntu/gnome-control-
center/-/merge_requests/9) to move the most relevant (for ubuntu)
settings into the ubuntu "appearance" panel in gnome-control-center so
that we can explicitly only support a restricted number of options that
we care about, while all the rest can be tuned when using the ding
options manually or tools such as d-conf editor.

The appearance options will include these new widgets:

https://i.imgur.com/Cup75om.png (wording to be improved before UIF)

  This is the code involved:
   -
https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gnome-control-center/-/commit/3f7c10501b1ac28311dd9edb64e64bfbbcd67204

Plus we need to change DING code to call `gnome-settings-daemon ubuntu`
  on desktop context menu.

Not sure this is fully a FFe request, given that from the global desktop
point of view we want actually support less features.

  ---

It would be nice to be able to upload the update before UIF, so that we
  don't require further exception steps.

[Bug 1964442] Re: [jammy Regression] signing a changes file in gnome-terminal sends keys to the terminal

2022-03-18 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I experienced a similar issue today. I ran `snap install app` in my
terminal. It popped up a PolicyKit login window and my terminal started
filling with empty input lines.

Around the same time, I had this in my journal log repeatedly:

gnome-shell: Object 0x5614373df110 of type IBusText has been finalized
while it was still owned by gjs, this is due to invalid memory
management.

Therefore, I'm reassigning to gnome-shell and ibus. I don't think this
issue is specific to gnome-terminal. You might eventually see it with a
different terminal.

I am using the default Ubuntu session on Wayland.

[Bug 1959762] Re: HID_ASUS should depend on USB_HID in stable v4.15 backports

2022-03-18 Thread Luke Nowakowski-Krijger
For Bionic, similar to focal, this was part of stable update
(4.15.0-172) which doesn't need verification. The config also was the
same after with HID_ASUS and USB_HID set to 'm'.
