[Bug 1969162] [NEW] bad interaction between snapd and update-notifier when snapd package is being upgraded
Public bug reported: On a release upgrade from impish to jammy, I noticed that the dbus postinst hung for 10 minutes. It hung trying to make two calls to canonical-livepatch via /usr/share/update-notifier/notify-reboot- required: first a call to /snap/bin/canonical-livepatch kernel-upgrade- required which hung for ~5 minutes, then a call to /snap/bin/canonical- livepatch status which hung for another ~5 minutes. Maybe if there are complex imports or other interactions, it could show this fix to be incomplete, as there were other upstream fixes for rlm_python3 that landed in 3.0.21 and later. I checked the 3.0.21 ones (https://github.com/FreeRADIUS/freeradius-server/issues/3193#issuecomment-564142712), and believe I have the correct set of minimal fixes. In any case, this upload is an improvement already, because before one could not even load rlm_python3. And if you tried to use it really, it would segfault. - * Think about what the upload changes in the software. Imagine the change is - wrong or breaks something else: how would this show up? + That being said, freeradius is a gatekeeper. Authentication and + authorization is a big deal, and if this update introduces a bug, it + could manifest itself either by allowing something it shouldn't, or not + allowing anything. - * It is assumed that any SRU candidate patch is well-tested before - upload and has a low overall risk of regression, but it's important - to make the effort to think about what ''could'' happen in the - event of a regression. + These modules deep inside src/modules have their own autoconf scripts, + and they don't get regenerated by the build process from the respective + source files (configure.ac and others). At this time I didn't have to + patch them, but, as can be seen in the jammy upload, I had to patch + configure directly (and not configure.ac) because of fear of introducing + a regression, since those deep configure scripts are NOT regenerated by + the debian packaging builds: just the top level one is regenerated, at + the root of the source tree, and who knows when was the last time all + those configure scripts were generated. And jammy has an updated + autoconf (2.71), which broke other packages. In any case, this concern + does not apply to this particular focal update, but might in the future.

On the first attempted execution (click) the program crashed. The image read into memory was a PNG, with 32 bit float precision, HD size, 10MB. Otherwise only a couple of other unedited image files open in GIMP, no other heavy (user) operations in memory. Systemwide IO is a little messed up today by a failed internal HDD still needing removal. Generally stability has been poor of late, as it tends to around dist- release time. Running kernel is newest stable System76-ubuntu release. Other notes: Ugly new systemd.boot configuration, has some kinks in the installation process (the FAT drive on /boot still sending non-critical failure signals which nonetheless can monkey-wrench an entire dpkg session. The last kernel upgrade, 5.16.15(?) would not boot so we had to be downgraded which, you know. Leads to stuff. + *--Update-- GIMP crashed under similar circumstances three more times in + the same day work session, twice during save-to-disk and once during + recalc from 32 to 8 bit precision. + Linux 5.16.11-76051611-generic #202202230823~1646248261~21.10~2b22243~dev-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Th x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux - ``` GNU Image Manipulation Program version 2.10.24 git-describe: GIMP_2_10_24 Build: unknown rev 0 for linux # C compiler # - Using built-in specs. - COLLECT_GCC=gcc - COLLECT_LTO_WRAPPER=/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/10/lto-wrapper - OFFLOAD_TARGET_NAMES=nvptx-none:amdgcn-amdhsa:hsa - OFFLOAD_TARGET_DEFAULT=1 - Target: x86_64-linux-gnu - Configured with: ../src/configure -v --with-pkgversion='Ubuntu 10.3.0-6ubuntu1' --with-bugurl=file:///usr/share/doc/gcc-10/README.Bugs --enable-languages=c,ada,c++,go,brig,d,fortran,objc,obj-c++,m2 --prefix=/usr --with-gcc-major-version-only --program-suffix=-10 --program-prefix=x86_64-linux-gnu- --enable-shared --enable-linker-build-id --libexecdir=/usr/lib --without-included-gettext --enable-threads=posix --libdir=/usr/lib --enable-nls --enable-bootstrap --enable-clocale=gnu --enable-libstdcxx-debug --enable-libstdcxx-time=yes --with-default-libstdcxx-abi=new --enable-gnu-unique-object --disable-vtable-verify --enable-plugin --enable-default-pie --with-system-zlib --enable-libphobos-checking=release --with-target-system-zlib=auto --enable-objc-gc=auto --enable-multiarch --disable-werror --with-arch-32=i686 --with-abi=m64 --with-multilib-list=m32,m64,mx32 --enable-multilib --with-tune=generic --enable-offload-targets=nvptx-none=/build/gcc-10-IAajkb/gcc-10-10.3.0/debian/tmp-nvptx/usr,amdgcn-amdhsa=/build/gcc-10-IAajkb/gcc-10-10.3.0/debian/tmp-gcn/usr,hsa --without-cuda-driver --enable-checking=release --build=x86_64-linux-gnu --host=x86_64-linux-gnu --target=x86_64-linux-gnu --with-build-config=bootstrap-lto-lean --enable-link-mutex - Thread model: posix - Supported LTO compression algorithms: zlib zstd - gcc version 10.3.0 (Ubuntu 10.3.0-6ubuntu1) + Using built-in specs. + COLLECT_GCC=gcc + COLLECT_LTO_WRAPPER=/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/10/lto-wrapper + OFFLOAD_TARGET_NAMES=nvptx-none:amdgcn-amdhsa:hsa + OFFLOAD_TARGET_DEFAULT=1 + Target: x86_64-linux-gnu + Configured with: ../src/configure -v --with-pkgversion='Ubuntu 10.3.0-6ubuntu1' --with-bugurl=file:///usr/share/doc/gcc-10/README.Bugs --enable-languages=c,ada,c++,go,brig,d,fortran,objc,obj-c++,m2 --prefix=/usr --with-gcc-major-version-only --program-suffix=-10 --program-prefix=x86_64-linux-gnu- --enable-shared --enable-linker-build-id --libexecdir=/usr/lib --without-included-gettext --enable-threads=posix --libdir=/usr/lib --enable-nls --enable-bootstrap --enable-clocale=gnu --enable-libstdcxx-debug --enable-libstdcxx-time=yes --with-default-libstdcxx-abi=new --enable-gnu-unique-object --disable-vtable-verify --enable-plugin --enable-default-pie --with-system-zlib --enable-libphobos-checking=release --with-target-system-zlib=auto --enable-objc-gc=auto --enable-multiarch --disable-werror --with-arch-32=i686 --with-abi=m64 --with-multilib-list=m32,m64,mx32 --enable-multilib --with-tune=generic --enable-offload-targets=nvptx-none=/build/gcc-10-IAajkb/gcc-10-10.3.0/debian/tmp-nvptx/usr,amdgcn-amdhsa=/build/gcc-10-IAajkb/gcc-10-10.3.0/debian/tmp-gcn/usr,hsa --without-cuda-driver --enable-checking=release --build=x86_64-linux-gnu --host=x86_64-linux-gnu --target=x86_64-linux-gnu --with-build-config=bootstrap-lto-lean --enable-link-mutex + Thread model: posix + Supported LTO compression algorithms: zlib zstd + gcc version 10.3.0 (Ubuntu 10.3.0-6ubuntu1) # Libraries # using babl version 0.1.88 (compiled against version 0.1.88) using GEGL version 0.4.32
[Bug 1968210] Re: USB devices not detected during boot on USB 3.0 hubs
Verification of the fix was confirmed by Chris Chiu when testing the patch changes. For now we will flip verification done for bionic and focal 5.4 kernels. [Bug 1968919] Re: Spurious needrestart runs on do-release-upgrade
A couple notes I think are worth adding: 1. One way to work around this is to set DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive when running do-release-upgrade. 2. do-release-upgrade has the option to run completely non- interactively. This means no y/N prompts etc. This is done by adding `-f DistUpgradeViewNonInteractive` to the do-release-upgrade command line. Anyways, I think we can set NEEDRESTART_MODE=a ('a' for automatic) by default, and maybe set DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive by default for DistUpgradeViewText. Currently, DistUpgradeViewText sets DEBIAN_FRONTEND=dialog by default, but reading the git history I'm not sure this is what was intended. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1968919 Title: Spurious needrestart runs on do-release-upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-manual-tests/+bug/1968919/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
