For nvidia-driver, u-d-c, we need to follow
https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/510.54/README/powermanagement.html
to setup the parameters after some checks.

I appended the parameters:
options nvidia NVreg_TemporaryFilePath=/run
options nvidia NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations=1

and then the problem solved.

Tried 510.60 as well and the problem is persistent.

Thanks for testing that.

We may need to apply something like this to OpenConnect, to get it to
try harder to disable the OpenSSL minimum security level. Ugh.

[Bug 1969125] Re: [SRU] ubuntu-advantage-tools (27.7 -> 27.8) Xenial, Bionic, Focal, Impish, Jammy

2022-04-22 Thread Grant Orndorff
We have run the full ubuntu-advantage-tools integration test suite for
jammy against the version in -proposed. The results are attached. All
tests passed.

You can verify the correct version was used by checking the output of
the first test in each file, which prints the version number.

I am marking the verification done for jammy for this SRU.

[Bug 1970005] [NEW] gnome-shell-extension-manager missing from Ubuntu Software

2022-04-22 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Impact
=
Someone looking for the new Extension Manager app in the Ubuntu Software app
(or the GNOME Software app) to install and manage GNOME Shell extensions won't
be able to find it.

https://appstream.ubuntu.com/jammy/universe/issues/gnome-shell-
extension-manager.html

Test Case
=
If this works correctly,
This page should be created and look ok:
https://appstream.ubuntu.com/jammy-proposed/universe/metainfo/gnome-shell-extension-manager.html

And you should be able to see the app in the Ubuntu Software app. You
might need to log out and log back in to make sure the background
service for Ubuntu Software is stopped and refreshed.

We need to wait for the AppStream metadata to be generated by
appstream.ubuntu.com and published for this fix to work. I expect that
could take a day.

What Could Go Wrong
===
The only thing this update is doing is moving the AppStream metadata to a
different location. Since the AppStream metadata is currently not being
recognized by Ubuntu's appstream generator, this can' make things any worse.

Other Info
==
It is a big tricky to test and validate appstream fixes like this one. For
instance, AppStream metadata is not generated for PPAs.

It's been a few years since I've done an AppStream fix like this. I
think the test case will work here, but there's a chance it won't.

For reference, here is the current error:
https://appstream.ubuntu.com/jammy/universe/issues/gnome-shell-extension-manager.html

And this page is missing because of that error:
https://appstream.ubuntu.com/jammy/universe/metainfo/gnome-shell-extension-manager.html

When this bug is fully fixed, those pages will still be there, but first
the jammy-proposed pages will look better and then jammy-updates.

** Affects: gnome-shell-extension-manager (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Medium
 Assignee: Jeremy Bicha (jbicha)
 Status: In Progress

[Bug 1956177] Re: battery not detected by ACPI

2022-04-22 Thread Nikola Glavina
Patrick, I just want to say a big “Thank You”. I have been struggling
with this issue for about two months. Your DSDT files haven't worked on
my laptop, even my touchpad stopped working after I applied it lol. What
did work was dumping my own dsdt, decompiling and updating it, and
recompiling it according to your instructions. I guess A3510 comes with
a couple of variations, some have i3 cpu, some i5. Thanks again and
cheers!

the dark theme and light theme work as expected. Also, the app continues
to run fine if gir1.2-gweather-4.0 and gir1.2-gnomedesktop-4.0 are
installed.

[Bug 1908894] Re: USB controllers disconnects after random time

2022-04-22 Thread Piotr Henryk Dabrowski
This issue persists in Ubuntu 21.10.
My external USB drives get disconnected randomly.

Setting "XHCI Hand-off" in BIOS to Disabled *SOLVED* this problem for me.
It seems kernel/Ubuntu fails to handle USB properly when given control over it
by BIOS.

This is happening to me as well, see the bug report here:
https://github.com/FreeRDP/FreeRDP/issues/7449

It appears to be an issue with any RD Gateway and related to OpenSSL 3
I tried the Flatpak method suggested and that works for me using the command
line but would really like to be able to get back to using Remmina.

[Bug 1929791] Re: Bluetooth does not start if system boots from USB

2022-04-22 Thread Alex Kurichenko
I got the same bug.
If hciuart.service was started before /dev/serial1 is created, it fails.
Fixed by adding systemd override with "Requires" directive:

# systemctl cat hciuart
# /lib/systemd/system/hciuart.service
[Unit]
Description=Configure Bluetooth Modems connected by UART
ConditionFileNotEmpty=/proc/device-tree/soc/gpio@7e20/bt_pins/brcm,pins
After=dev-serial1.device

[Service]
Type=forking
ExecStart=/usr/bin/btuart

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

# /etc/systemd/system/hciuart.service.d/override.conf
[Unit]
Requires=dev-serial1.device < fix of this problem

Here's what documentation says:

After=: The units listed in this directive will be started before
starting the current unit. This does not imply a dependency relationship
and one must be established through the above directives if this is
required.

Requires=: This directive lists any units upon which this unit
essentially depends. If the current unit is activated, the units listed
here must successfully activate as well, else this unit will fail. These
units are started in parallel with the current unit by default.

[Bug 1969998] [NEW] Dark themes not used properly in virtualbox - light grey text on slightly whiter grey

2022-04-22 Thread Ian
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu MATE 22.04 does a really good job of having (almost) everything
reflect the chosen theme.

One of the exceptions is virtualbox 6.1, where having a dark theme for
the system results in virtualbox showing light grey text on what remains
a slightly whiter (rather than dark grey) background.

When one of the virtual machines is selected, its name and power state
are - on my theme - a medium light green, but as the text is still light
grey, it is still hard to read.

In the virtual machine's details, some text appears blue when moused
over otherwise it's the light grey on slightly lighter grey.

[Bug 1969995] [NEW] xserver-xorg is set to depend on python3-apport making it impossible to uninstall

2022-04-22 Thread Lea Haft
Public bug reported:

Hi

After I found out that python3-apport is latching onto python3 and runs
even on the python scripts I write, I tried to uninstall the
python3-apport package. That resulted in:

apt-get --purge remove python3-apport
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  apport-symptoms gir1.2-wnck-3.0 libwhoopsie-preferences0 libxatracker2
libxvmc1 python3-problem-report python3-systemd whoopsie-preferences x11-apps
x11-session-utils
  xinit xserver-xorg-legacy xserver-xorg-video-all xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu
xserver-xorg-video-ati xserver-xorg-video-fbdev xserver-xorg-video-intel
  xserver-xorg-video-nouveau xserver-xorg-video-qxl xserver-xorg-video-radeon
xserver-xorg-video-vesa xserver-xorg-video-vmware
Use 'apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  apport* apport-gtk* python3-apport* xorg* xserver-xorg* xubuntu-core*
xubuntu-desktop*
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 7 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
After this operation, 2 136 kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]

From what I can see xserver-xorg is set to directly depend on
python3-apport. Why is this needed? If one don't want this obtrusive
package, why should that prevent xserver-xorg to function?
Python3-apport should at most be recommended because the only package of
those listed above is the that requires apport which in turn requires
python3-apport is xubuntu-desktop. In the description of xubuntu-desktop
it is written:

Description: Xubuntu desktop system
This package depends on all of the packages in the Xubuntu desktop system
 .
It is safe to remove this package if some of the desktop system packages are
 not desired.

I guess the same goes for ubuntu-desktop (or what name the equivelent
package has).

So please change this dependency so it is possible to remove
python3-apport for those of us that can't have such packages hooked into
python.

Where, according to the newly-uploaded package, "supported

change we allow in SRU. Please elaborate why it is appropriate to
reduce the architecture support in this package.

[Bug 1873803] Re: Unable to create VMs with virt-install

2022-04-22 Thread Doug Smythies
Since the legacy installer is no longer available, is it correct to say
the workaround is no longer an option?

I am unable to even get started with a 22.04 server VM install on my Ubuntu
22.04.4 server host.
I submitted bug #1950914 months ago, and wonder if it is duplicate with this
bug. I use this command:

virt-install -n serv-jj -r 8192 \
--disk path=/home/doug/vm/serv-jj.img,bus=virtio,size=50 \
-c jammy-live-server-amd64-2022-04-21.iso \
--network bridge=br0,model=virtio,mac=52:54:00:27:1c:6e \

[Bug 1929209] Re: [i915] external monitor goes black for several seconds at a time, randomly

2022-04-22 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
No one else has joined this bug, but it has continued to make life with
my expensive monitor extremely annoying.

And despite suggestions above, I am certain this is not a hardware
problem.

Here is new proof:
yesterday, I initiated an upgrade (do-release-upgrade) to 22.04 from 21.10
from the command line.
By chance, I tried full-screening a video while the upgrade was in progress.
Amazingly, it worked flawlessly the entire duration of the upgrade! ! !
As soon as it was done and rebooted, I tried playing that video again and it
did the black-screen / device searching every 3 seconds or so, as it always has.

So, how can I reproduce the thing that the upgrade did?! It said
something at the beginning about disabling screen lock or something like
that, but I have tried turning off all such things in my settings
already.

I tried Cupertino panel and it didn't have this issue. When Kodi was
minimized, there was a dot below the icon signifying that it was
minimized. When the icon was clicked, the window was maximized.

[Bug 1969943] Re: System updates fail to complete.

2022-04-22 Thread Seth Arnold
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Bug 1969970] Re: ubuntu jammy 22.04 iso: unable to find a live file system on the network

2022-04-22 Thread Dan Bungert
I did a test run of this using the instructions from
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/netbooting-the-live-server-
installer/14510 and things look good to me. Would you also try that and
let us know?

I'm marking this "incomplete" since I can't reproduce the issue and
that's the bug state used when more info is needed.

[Bug 1968929] Re: Missing Wayland login option on NVIDIA systems

I can confirm that with the proposed update on a previously impacted

only GPU (RTX3090), "Test Case 1" behaves after the proposed update as
expected: the Wayland option is made available, but default is "Ubuntu"
(not "Ubuntu on Wayland").

[Bug 1969991] [NEW] /proc/diskstats contains all 0s for a raid array

2022-04-22 Thread Caleb Spare

The issue is that /proc/diskstats has all 0s for md0, a raid0 array.

[Bug 1969988] [NEW] OpenSMTPd not working with OpenSSL 3

2022-04-22 Thread Alex Conrad
Public bug reported:

So, I upgraded to Ubuntu 22.04 earlier today, and just noticed all mail
is dismissed with this cryptic error:

smtp disconnected reason="io-error: error:0A080006:SSL routines::EVP
lib"

Running smtpd -dv -Tall gives these errors:

debug: SSL library error: io_dispatch_accept_tls:SSL_accept: error:02B3:rsa
routines::missing private key
debug: SSL library error: io_dispatch_accept_tls:SSL_accept:
error:1C880004:Provider routines::RSA libdebug: SSL library error:
io_dispatch_accept_tls:SSL_accept: error:0A080006:SSL routines::EVP lib
smtp: 0x623af4b1f100: IO_ERROR
6dd245e51e9972cc smtp disconnected reason="io-error: error:0A080006:SSL
routines::EVP lib"

Some googling led me to this:

https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/-/merge_requests/25393

I'd say this is pretty severe, as opensmtpd doesn't seem to work at all on the
latest stable Ubuntu. My mailserver is down. I had to create a temporary mail
just to create this account to report this ticket.

So, this is on Ubuntu 22.04, with opensmtpd 6.8.0p2-4build1. I expect mail to
be delivered, instead it is dismissed.
This only affects mail delivered through smtp. Local mail works fine. But just
local mail is kinda pointless (:

I cheated and used developer tools :)
(`make dryrun` in the source tree if you're interested)

To simulate that with the real installer the easiest thing would be to
SSH into the install and capture the SSHed terminal.

[Bug 1969959] Re: Weird colors after startup (Ubuntu 22.04)

2022-04-22 Thread Damon Howe
the try ubuntu screen is fine.
after booted to desktop for a split second the screen colors are normal and
then BAM i get an almost all white screen
i have tested with 2 systems and 2 video cards.

intel b660 + 12600k nvidia 3060 ti
amd x570 + 5600x nvidia 3060 ti
both systems have same behavior.
i am pretty sure this started happening with the ubuntu 22.04 daily after
03-28-2022 but not 100% sure
i reported it over and over in the #ubuntu #ubuntu-next for 3 weeks and warned
everyone repeatably.
i tried to get other people to verify with similar systems and while doing that
i got silenced where i couldnt talk and i got kicked out #ubuntu-next.
they told me to report the bug but i first wanted to make sure it was happening
on other peoples systems and i was in the process of that very thing when i got
silenced.
it is very clear that there are some people there who dont like nvidia.

i would like to add that it is fine while using a nvidia 1060.

thanks

The UUID there makes it look like you have a 2-month out of date iso.

[Bug 1969984] [NEW] Plymouth Login Shows Badly on Multi-Screen Setup

2022-04-22 Thread Michael Mikowski
Public bug reported:

Summary:

The plymouth theme for startup and disk decryption is off-center on
multi-monitor setups with varying resolutions.

Steps to Reproduce:

- Connect a 4k external display to a 1080p system.
- Start Kubuntu 22.04 LTS

Actual Results

The Plymouth startup and disk encryption graphic are shifted down and to
the right. This do NOT occur when using a single screen.

Expected Results:

The theme and disk encryption graphic should either be centered on all
screens, or, as in Focal, should only be shown on the laptop screen.

TODO

- Test with more monitor resolutions

See the attached images.

Assessment:

This is likely due to a non-responsive (old-style) Plymouth theme. We
could likely create a responsive if it is acceptable.

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04
Package: plymouth-theme-kubuntu-logo 1:22.04.9
