Thanks. This bug seems to be something unique to the system. I can't tell what but starting with server edition and then manually installing multiple different desktops is not a common thing to do. What I can say is that desktop Ubuntu only needs 'adwaita-icon-theme' to get the correct cursor on the login screen. Public bug reported: The screen sharing switch does not work in Budgie control center and hence no screen sharing is possible. The toggle to switch on screen sharing is disabled. Ubuntu 22.04 seems to have RDP as default sharing option. We hit this issue today as well. Same symptoms: * Failed to get metadata during VM launch - consistently and only on the "affected" network. Other networks like "unaffected" are OK. * Missing metadata route inside VM * After adding the route manually to the .2 IP we can ping/curl the metadata endpoint with no issues, so it seems the route is the only thing missing. * The workaround of adding the metadata route explicitly to the relevant router allows new VMs in the affected network to get metadata without problems. These are the current packages: ii neutron-common 2:16.4.2-0ubuntu1 ii neutron-ovn-metadata-agent 2:16.4.2-0ubuntu1 ii python3-neutron 2:16.4.2-0ubuntu1 ii python3-neutron-lib 2.3.0-0ubuntu1 ii python3-neutronclient 1:7.1.1-0ubuntu1 I am attaching the information requested above for an "affected" and "unaffected" network. The main difference I see is that the "unaffected" subnet has the following option in the ovn-nb that is missing from the "affected" subnet: classless_static_route="{169.254.169.254/32,10.131.83.2, 0.0.0.0/0,10.131.83.1}" The two patches you mention are indeed included in python3-neutron 2:16.4.2-0ubuntu1. I additionally confirmed by checking /usr/lib/python3/dist- packages/neutron/plugins/ml2/drivers/ovn/mech_driver/ovsdb/ovn_client.py Regarding "ovn_metadata_enabled", I didn't find it set to "true" in any config under /etc/neutron. I can only see the default commented out and no mention in neutron_ovn_metadata_agent.ini, which has the ovs/ovn config in it (but I am no expert) /etc/neutron# grep -r ovn_metadata ovn.ini:#ovn_metadata_enabled = false The creation logs are no longer available. The ports for the .2 IPs are created in the subnet, and they do have a device_id of ovnmeta-, but the device_owner is network:dhcp and not network:distributed as you seem to be expecting. I added the output of `port show` for them as well. I've observed a similar issue, since the Ubuntu 22.04 upgrade. Though, I can not confirm 100% that the issue happened exactly on the updated date. It might have been caused by one of the Firefox upgrades. I am currently on version 100. For me, the focus in the save dialog constantly switches to the file list area. It makes it almost impossible to type the file name. When I type one character, this character is inserted into the file name edit field. But then the focus changes to the file list area. At least with the versions installed it is now done the right way: unmount network mounted filesystems (any of them: nfs, smb, sshfs, ...), then turn down networking. Public bug reported: I upgraded from 20.04 to 22.04 a server which has NFS clients that are version 2 (SunOS 4.1.4), version 3 (Redhat 6.2) and version 4.2 (other modern Linux systems). After upgrading the version 2 and version 3 clients no longer can mount the file systems. A check with rpcinfo -p showed version 2 no longer being advertised, I checked the conf and found the update had disabled it, I re-enabled it. Version 3 was still advertised, but the mount still fails, and after re- enabling version 2, the mount still fails. I am also not at all appreciative of the unauthorized changes that the upgrade made to my exports file. The notable ones are: * A daemon that only runs on GCP * Currently it ends early based on a default config setting - making it hardly a deamon. But this config setting will be flipped on as soon as it's needed via a follow up SRU, so please review as if the daemon was long-running. * When it turns on, it will long-poll the GCP metadata endpoint and run `ua auto-attach` when a pro license is added. * This replaces the 5 minute timer we currently have on GCP. * A part of this is a shim service only on xenial to replace a needed feature from cloud-init, that is not backported to xenial. * Contract renewal UX improvements * `ua status` now notifies you when your contract is updated (e.g. renewed), and instructs the user to run `ua refresh`. (Note this isn't technically required for renewal - services will keep working for a renewed contract regardless.) * `ua refresh` now ensures motd/apt messaging is all up to date in addition to updating contract details. * In combination, these two features address user concerns over confusing/outdated motd/apt messaging shortly after contract renewal. * More granular APT Proxy configuration with backwards compatibility * apt_http(s)_proxy is renamed to global_apt_http(s)_proxy (but the old name still works) * ua_apt_http(s)_proxy is introduced for ua-scoped apt proxy configurations * `ua security-status` now includes counts of packages from each archive component See the changelog entry below for a full list of changes and bugs. [Regression Potential] This is a big update, with several refactors touching many pieces of the codebase. It is possible that some behavior changed in subtle ways not captured by our integration tests. There are also several small refactors and additions to the postinst script. Any adjustment to postinst poses the risk of breaking upgrades if a mistake was made. We already dropped support for trusty, but we removed even more trusty related code in this release. It is possible that we were unknowingly relying on some of this trusty code for subtle behavior. We included backwards compatibility for the proxy configuration changes, but it is possible that if we made a mistake then old configurations will stop working correctly. [Discussion] There were a series of discussions about the daemon and it was decided to limit the scope as much as possible. As such, it only runs on GCP on unattached instances. Python won't even be instantiated on other machines. The daemon checks several conditions on start up as well and ends early if any don't match. There was some effort to keep the memory footprint from being too high. It depends on the python version; on xenial systemd says the daemon takes just under 14Mb and on focal, just under 11Mb. We have regression tests in place to keep on eye on memory usage. When the daemon is running, it will almost always be blocked on a long-poll endpoint, so CPU usage should be minimal. The daemon does run as root, but doesn't listen on a socket or accept on any user input. It looks at root-only config files and talks to a particular GCP metadata endpoint. If a user were to maliciously MITM the metadata endpoint, they could provide data to the daemon that would cause it to send requests to the Contract Server unnecessarily. A user has ran into a storage performance issue, and it has been traced back to CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_DEFAULT_ON being enabled. They have a Dell XtremIO FC storage server, running VMWare ESXi 7.0U3, with 4x pvscsi controllers (2 LUNs per controller), running a single large LV with 8-way 1MB stripe. There are Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04 VMs running on the same server. The VMs are attached to the storage unit through iSCSI. When running the following FIO script: [write1] filename=/dev/xio2data/prd01 readwrite=randwrite random_generator=tausworthe64 blocksize=8K ioengine=libaio iodepth=32 direct=1 runtime=30 numjobs=8 group_reporting invalidate=0 On 20.04 with 5.4.0-109-generic they see: WRITE: bw=1010MiB/s (1059MB/s), 1010MiB/s-1010MiB/s (1059MB/s-1059MB/s), io=29.6GiB (31.8GB), run=30007-30007msec They note a 2%-3% %SYS load. On 22.04 with 5.15.0-27-generic they see: WRITE: bw=568MiB/s (595MB/s), 568MiB/s-568MiB/s (595MB/s-595MB/s), io=16.6GiB (17.9GB), run=30007-30007msec They note a consistent 18%-19% %SYS load, and poor performance. It seems VMWare emulates a IOMMU, and their VMs were configuring 8 IOMMU groups for their PCI devices, and it was significantly impacting iSCSI performance. When intel_iommu=off was supplied on the kernel command line, the performance issue is no longer present. This is a suitable workaround for the time being. [Bug 1973093] [NEW] xmessage loses text area as buttons are added and -g
Public bug reported: xmessage text gets obscured with option combinations using buttons and geometry specifications. Quick background: xmessage creates a new grey window with a white text box inside it. Without -buttons, the white text box usually spans the full width of the grey window that contains it, leaving no margins. Things start going wrong when you start specifying -buttons or -g (geometry), and text can end up being obscured. Problem #1: If the width of all the buttons you specify makes the grey window wider than the text, the white text box does not increase in width to match. You end up with an undesirable wide grey margin on the right side of the white text box. If you resize the window, making it less wide, the grey margin does not narrow; it moves in and covers and obscures the text, even though there is plenty of room for the text. Suggested Fix #1: The white text box must always be created the same width as the window that contains it, with no useless grey margin to the right. Narrowing the width of the window should not cause text to be obscured by a wide and useless fixed grey margin. Reproduce: xmessage -buttons 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20 "123456789" Problem #2: If you add a -g (geometry) option and specify just the width (not the height) for a window with buttons wider than the text box, the obscuring grey margin persists. If you add a "-g NNN" option, where NNN is the width that xmessage would have chosen itself, then you get exactly the same unpleasant behaviour as Problem #1 above. If you increase the NNN to be wider that what xmessage would have used, then both the window and the text box width are created increased by that amount, as if you had resized the window with a mouse. The useless grey margin to the right of the text box stays the same width, just as in Problem #1. If you decrease the NNN to be narrower that what xmessage would have used, then both the window and the text box width are created decreased by that amount, as if you had resized the window with a mouse. Not all buttons will show; this is expected. What is not expected is that the useless grey margin to the right of the text box stays the same width, and so it now overwrites and obscures the text, even though there is plenty of room for the text. If you resize the window back so that all the buttons show, all the text also shows and we're back to Problem #1 above. Suggested Fix #2: Same as above. If you add a "-g NNNx55" option, where NNN is the width that xmessage would have chosen itself and "55" is about the same height, you would expect to get exactly the same results as if you didn't specify any geometry at all. That's not what happens. You get a fixed-width text window about 12 characters wide, with a huge grey margin on the right. It doesn't matter what size text you specify; the white text box will be created about 12 characters wide and any text to the right of that will be masked and obscured by the wide grey margin. Changing the width of the window has all the problems of Problems #1 and #2 above. Suggested Fix #3: Same as above. Specifying a geometry that is identical to what xmessage would have chosen itself should create an identical window. Text should not be obscured. I have submitted the patch upstream to the libvirt mailing list. I don't feel qualified to assert that giving the VM read access to those sysfs files is the right fix, but it did resolve the issue for me. I noticed that GNOME-Boxes bug too while troubleshooting this. I did not try the egl-headless suggestion at the end of the thread, but did attempt to set the env var "MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=i965", which still resulted in a blank display for me. It is unclear to me whether the "qemu_spice_gl_scanout_texture: failed to get fd for texture" message is specific to this issue, or if it would occur in a broad class of errors where the graphics fails to initialize.
