[Bug 2056696] Re: All Snaps are denied the ability to use DBus for notifications and apptray indicators in KDE-based flavors
So I installed kubuntu-desktop on an up-to-date noble VM and then after logging into the kubuntu session I was able to reproduce the issue for Notifications but I couldn't see anything owning the /StatusNotifierItem dbus path. For notifications I submitted https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/pull/13737 to snapd which should resolve that but if anyone can help me reproduce the issue for the status notifier item that would be great. FWIW I have attached a screenshot of d-feet showing the various dbus paths owned by plasmashell and /StatusNotifierItem is not listed. [Bug 2054218] Re: kvm: Running perf against qemu processes results in page fault inside guest
Performing verification for mantic. I deployed mantic onto a bare metal server, with kernel 6.5.0-26-generic from -updates. This might be fullscreen direct scanout, which happens when a window is maximized on a monitor that has no panel or dock. Please try unmaximizing the window and just dragging it to the second monitor as a regular window. [Bug 2003316] Re: [needs-packaging] Please add mysql-shell to ubuntu
** Description changed: + Dear Release Team, + + Please accept this new package as a noble FFe. + + PPA: https://launchpad.net/~lvoytek/+archive/ubuntu/mysql-shell-noble + + The package is currently awaiting approval in the new queue for noble. + It was ready to upload prior to feature freeze, but the time_t64 + transition caused it to break temporarily. + + [Rationale] + + MySQL Shell is a new package in Ubuntu for managing MySQL infrastructure + and setups. The inclusion of this package in universe should not affect + anything externally since it is a new package without reverse- + dependencies. + + Ideally this MySQL Shell would be included in noble for the convenience + of building it into data platforms charms, and for users who want a more + complete MySQL environment. + + + [Tests] + + Two DEP-8 tests are included with this package, and both are passing on all architectures. + The first is managetables. It exercises the functionality of MySQL Shell's Python and SQL modes by creating and modifying tables on a local MySQL instance. + The second is secretstore. It tests the additional included binary mysql-secret-store-login-path by using all its options, storing, erasing, getting, and showing all. + + + [Original Description] + Hi, The mysql-shell is a tool to manage complex MySQL InnoDB cluster setups: https://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql-shell/8.0/en/ Can you please add it into Ubuntu? URL: https://github.com/mysql/mysql-shell License: GPL https://github.com/mysql/mysql-shell/blob/master/LICENSE Note: Data Platform Team is using it to manage cluster in our charms: https://github.com/canonical/mysql-operator/ https://github.com/canonical/mysql-k8s-operator and Canonical security team need to provide support for 10 years here. Hi Sudip, thanks for the debdiff. I have some suggestions: * in the backport of the rules changes, there is a small out-of-order difference. I'm referring to the new dh_installdocs call being after dh_installchangelogs instead of before. I'm 99.9% certain that it doesn't matter, but it would be nice to make this precisely match what was done in 1.0.49-4.1, to reduce the odds of new problems and for ease of patch reviews. * I believe the version number references in the four maintscript files needs to be corrected for the actual version being uploaded. They reference 1.0.49-4.1~ but I think that they need to be updated to 1.0.49-4ubuntu0.1~ . * The test plan references pure-ftpd, but I presume the other packages listed in the maintscript updates are also affected. Would you update the testplan to reflect all the binary packages being changed? I suggest also amending the test plan to reflect that updates to the Jammy version of the pure-ftpd packages still work. Removing ubuntu-sponsors for the moment, please re-subscribe ubuntu- sponsors when you want someone to look again. [Bug 2051050] Re: Audio balancing setting doesn't work with the cirrus codec
This bug is awaiting verification that the linux-aws- fips/5.15.0-1056.61+fips1 kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-jammy-linux-aws-fips' to 'verification-done-jammy-linux-aws-fips'. If the problem still exists, change the tag 'verification-needed-jammy-linux-aws-fips' to 'verification-failed-jammy-linux-aws-fips'. If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. [Bug 2057937] Re: apt-news.service reporting errors after ubuntu-pro-client install
** Changed in: ubuntu-advantage-tools (Ubuntu Noble) Status: Triaged => In Progress ** Description changed: [ Impact ] src:ubuntu-advantage-tools version 31 introduced[1] an apparmor profile to the apt-news service. It's known that some ubuntu systems do not have apparmor enabled, and this was considered. The systemd.exec(5) manpage states that the AppArmorProfile setting has no effect if apparmor is disabled[2]. This was tested and verified. Turns out, however, that apparmor can be enabled on a system, but without the apparmor package installed. When this package is not installed, no profiles are loaded. Crucially, the ubuntu_pro_apt_news profile, used by apt-news.service, is not loaded. This situation is different than "apparmor is disabled", and systemd will try to launch apt-news confined by ubuntu_pro_apt_news. But since that profile is not loaded into the kernel, the service will fail. apt-news.service is called as an apt update hook, but its failure does not fail apt, since it's guarded[3] by "|| true", i.e., failures in the hook are ignored. The only impact is that apt news won't be fetched. [ Test Plan ] To reproduce the problem, launch an ubuntu lxd container, or a VM, and: # install ubuntu-advantage-tools 31 or later. It's in updates right now, so just make sure the system is updated: sudo apt update && sudo apt install ubuntu-advantage-tools -y # verify it's version 31 or higher: $ dpkg -l ubuntu-advantage-tools | grep ubuntu-advantage-tools ii ubuntu-advantage-tools 31.2~22.04 all transitional dummy package for ubuntu-pro-client # remove (not purge) apparmor: sudo apt remove apparmor -y # reboot sudo reboot # start apt-news.service, and verify it fails: $ sudo systemctl start apt-news.service Job for apt-news.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See "systemctl status apt-news.service" and "journalctl -xeu apt-news.service" for details. # The log will show it's because it couldn't confine the service with the ubuntu_pro_apt_news profile: $ systemctl status apt-news.service × apt-news.service - Update APT News Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/apt-news.service; static) Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Mon 2024-03-18 20:35:41 UTC; 35s ago Process: 263 ExecStart=/usr/bin/python3 /usr/lib/ubuntu-advantage/apt_news.py (code=exited, status=231/APPARMOR) Main PID: 263 (code=exited, status=231/APPARMOR) CPU: 7ms Mar 18 20:35:41 j systemd[1]: Starting Update APT News... Mar 18 20:35:41 j systemd[1]: Failed to start Update APT News. With the fixed package, the service will not fail to start. [ Where problems could occur ] The fix is essentially ignoring errors when loading the specified apparmor profile, leaving the service unconfined in the case of an error like this, which is exactly how it was prior to the version 31 update. If the profile is loaded in the kernel, it will be applied as designed. Since we are now ignoring errors, if the profile has some syntax error, we would be running apt-news with the previously loaded profile, or, in the case of a reboot, unconfined, without a visible error other than logs. This could only happen if the user made manual changes to the profile, because the u-a-t package runs a syntax check on the profile at package build time.
