[Bug 2059744] [NEW] kernel bug 6.8.0-11 Ubuntu 24.04 with MT7921
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Noble Numbat (development branch) x86_64 The problem is this: there is an error with the Wi-Fi driver MT7921 [ 825.412953] mt7921e :04:00.0: Message 00020007 (seq 8) timeout [ 825.413273] mt7921e :04:00.0: PM: dpm_run_callback(): pci_pm_resume+0x0/0x110 returns -110 [ 825.413296] mt7921e :04:00.0: PM: failed to resume async: error -110 And I found a ready-made patch for it that solves the problem https://github.com/ShadowBlip/rz608-fix And after this simple script the problem disappears I'll attach the logs before and after I made this patch. Add this solution to your distribution. Better yet, contact the people who are responsible for the kernel and add it there so that it is global and applies to all distributions, because I noticed the same thing in Fedora. ** Affects: kernel-package (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "afterPatchLog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2059744/+attachment/5760397/+files/afterPatchLog.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2059744 Title: kernel bug 6.8.0-11 Ubuntu 24.04 with MT7921 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kernel-package/+bug/2059744/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2046383] Re: lubuntu - minimal install ; no browser means `ubuntu-bug` is broken
Before the report sends, it certainly does say that it will open the report in the web browser. If one's paying attention, one should realize they don't have one. It actually tells you this twice. If you go all the way through, you do get xdg-open's usual "no method" complaint. For that matter, should we choose to solve this with documentation, people will have to pay close attention to the documentation we provide to realize it won't work. The fact that the Ubuntu wiki page on reporting bugs doesn't really expressly mention the requirement of the browser further complicates things, but there again, they'd have to pay attention. My suggestion? Don't require a browser. I'm inclined to call this an apport bug. Even when looking at what folks do with Ubuntu Server, they still require a (text-based) browser and yet there are bugs that reference how that doesn't work (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/997020), either, so as far as I can tell, it's still a problem. ** Package changed: lubuntu-default-settings (Ubuntu) => apport (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2046383 Title: lubuntu - minimal install ; no browser means `ubuntu-bug` is broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/2046383/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2059738] [NEW] Kernel 6.8 - Shutdown/Reboot hangs on Lubuntu Noble 24.04
Public bug reported: [Overview] I have been testing installations of a number of Lubuntu and Xubuntu Noble Numbat 24.04 Daily builds since Feb 2024 on a DELL Wyse 3040 (UEFI bios), more latterly focused on Lubuntu. It would appear that since introduction of Kernel 6.8 into the daily builds, the installed system fails to carry out a successful reboot or power off when commanded from the desktop or the command line [Symptoms] When selecting either Leave-->Shutdown or Leave-->Reboot from the control panel, the process starts shutting down processes in an orderly fashion, until it gets to the part where it needs to power off hardware, where it hangs. shutdown -H now also fails in the same manner shutdown -r now also fails in the same manner With quiet bootflag disabled, the last system message on display before the hang is "Starting reboot..." or "Starting power-off..." [Workaround] The power button must be pressed for 5 secs to power down the hardware [Possibly related bugs] #1594023 Poweroff or reboot hangs. Laptop won't shutdown. 16.04 #2036987 Laptop Does Not Power Off After Installing Daily Build Of 23.10 [Unsuccessful Workarounds] Tried boot flags acpi=force acpi=nocrq reboot=pci suggested in #1594023 - No effect [Observations] I do believe that shutdown/reboot was working correctly on a live USB Lubuntu Noble Numbat Alpha build on the same hardware downloaded 22-Feb-2024. This release had an earlier kernel than 6.8. Sadly i no longer have the .iso to confirm this. All Lubuntu Noble daily builds since kernel 6.8 was introduced appear to exhibit the symptoms as above [System info] Operating System: Ubuntu Noble Numbat (development branch) Kernel: Linux 6.8.0-11-generic Architecture: x86-64 Hardware Vendor: Dell Inc. [Bug 2059736] [NEW] ganglia-monitor is missing default config file
Public bug reported: Hello, Via apt, I installed ganglia-monitor on a machine running Ubuntu 22. ganglia-monitor contains a gmond service. Normally(?) install puts a config file for gmond in /etc. Details online https://github.com/ganglia/monitor-core/wiki/Ganglia-Quick-Start So far as I can tell, no default config files for gmond or gmetad are installed via this package. [Bug 2059734] Re: Tar fails to extract archives that include folders with certain permissions on armhf
** Description changed: When running Ubuntu Noble in an arm32 Docker container, on certain hosts (Azure VM CI agents), tar fails to extract certain archives that include folders with specific permissions set. Here's a concise repro. The error occurs in when building the Dockerfile. I can only get this to work on Azure VMs, but can't find out why. ```Dockerfile FROM ubuntu.azurecr.io/ubuntu:noble # Create the problematic archive RUN mkdir /test \ - && chmod 775 /test \ - && cd /test \ - && mkdir 775 \ - && chmod 775 775 \ - && touch 775/test.txt \ - && chmod 644 775/test.txt \ - && tar -czvf /test.tar.gz . + && chmod 775 /test \ + && cd /test \ + && mkdir 775 \ + && chmod 775 775 \ + && touch 775/test.txt \ + && chmod 644 775/test.txt \ + && tar -czvf /test.tar.gz . # Extracting it gives an error RUN mkdir -p /test2 \ - && tar -tzvf /test.tar.gz \ - && tar -oxzf /test.tar.gz -C /test2 + && tar -tzvf /test.tar.gz \ + && tar -oxzf /test.tar.gz -C /test2 ``` What I expected to happen: The test.tar.gz archive should be successfully extracted to the /test2 directory. What happened instead: Tar throws the following error: ``` tar: ./775: Cannot change mode to rwxrwxr-x: Operation not permitted tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors ``` The Ubuntu container is running as root so there shouldn't be any permission errors. I'm going to mark lubuntu-default-settings as incomplete here. I'm not sure I entirely see how it's relevant. It's not clear to me that LXQt is to blame, either, as those upstream issues are now closed/fixed. The Openbox bug upstream is untouched, though. [Bug 1882352] Re: wrong order of session scripts
AFAIK the default behavior when starting X is to read .xsessionrc and then start the session. That ALWAYS means that anything in the session environment (as is this case) that conflicts with .xsessionrc is going to take precedence. This is true in Debian as much as it is in Ubuntu and I'm sure much more beyond that. tl;dr this is expected behavior. Go into LXQt Session Settings in the Environment pane and change the variable there. [Bug 2059734] [NEW] Tar fails to extract archives that include folders with certain permissions on armhf
Public bug reported: When running Ubuntu Noble in an arm32 Docker container, on certain hosts (Azure VM CI agents), tar fails to extract certain archives that include folders with specific permissions set. Here's a concise repro. The error occurs in when building the Dockerfile. I can only get this to work on Azure VMs, but can't find out why. ```Dockerfile FROM ubuntu.azurecr.io/ubuntu:noble # Create the problematic archive RUN mkdir /test \ && chmod 775 /test \ && cd /test \ && mkdir 775 \ && chmod 775 775 \ && touch 775/test.txt \ && chmod 644 775/test.txt \ && tar -czvf /test.tar.gz . # Extracting it gives an error RUN mkdir -p /test2 \ && tar -tzvf /test.tar.gz \ && tar -oxzf /test.tar.gz -C /test2 ``` What I expected to happen: The test.tar.gz archive should be successfully extracted to the /test2 directory. What happened instead: Tar throws the following error: ``` tar: ./775: Cannot change mode to rwxrwxr-x: Operation not permitted tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors ``` The Ubuntu container is running as root so there shouldn't be any permission errors. Since this is running in a container, I observed this happening on the following kernel: `Linux version 5.15.148.2-2.cm2 (root@CBL-Mariner) (gcc (GCC) 11.2.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils) 2.37) #1 SMP Fri Feb 23 23:38:33 UTC 2024`. I was not able to reproduce it using Ubuntu 22.04 Jammy (ubuntu.azurecr.io/ubuntu:jammy), using the same kernel as above. Additionally I was not able to reproduce this on the kernel `Linux cb0507859b24 5.15.146.1-microsoft-standard-WSL2 #1 SMP Thu Jan 11 04:09:03 UTC 2024 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux`, which is running on my work machine, using Docker qemu emulation for the arm32 image (I do not have access to an arm32 native machine). [Bug 2045384] Re: AppArmor patch for mq-posix interface is missing in jammy
1. Yes. The backport was for 5.15 jammy kernels including HWE derivatives. The user space SRU was done in bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/1994146 which included Focal. The intent being Focal will only support mqueue if it is using and HWE kernel. 2. Yes that makes sense. [Bug 2059337] Re: noble: needrestart triggering SIGTERM of cloud-final.service preventing apt packages from being installed when cloud-init is also being upgraded
In foundations leadership sync on this today. I believe we determined that the best course of action we should take at the moment is to pursue an Ubuntu downstream needrestart patch to register cloud-init system services as skipped during automatic restarts when apt commands are run in non-interactive mode as it would break the rest of cloud-init configuration being performed by that boot stage. We also would prefer to avoid each package maintainer having to extend the $nrconf{override_rc} for their systemd services as those behaviors would be better advertized and maintained in the ubuntu downstream package needrestart.conf as a single-source of truth for "automated restart skips" As a result, I've closed https://github.com/canonical/cloud-init/pull/5111 as we will not package our own restart skip extensions/overrides in cloud-init deb. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2059337 Title: noble: needrestart triggering SIGTERM of cloud-final.service preventing apt packages from being installed when cloud-init is also being upgraded To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/2059337/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
