[Bug 2059854] [NEW] Calamares | Lubuntu | Customize screen corrupted unreadable text

2024-03-30 Thread Moopere
Public bug reported:

- Using 24.04 testing Lubuntu ISO
- Choose to install from the live desktop
- When you progress to the customize section of the installer all the options
text is corrupted and unreadable (looks exactly like its been redacted lol).
Had to use other internet resources in order to review what those options are
and make appropriate choices

It’s 5.4.5, so “no, but it does not contain the known backdoor”. Both
Debian and Ubuntu are currently analysing what needs to be done.

[Bug 2058480] Re: [Ubuntu 22.04.4/linux-image-6.5.0-1014-aws] Kernel outputs "UBSAN: array-index-out-of-bounds in /build/linux-aws-6.5-4tw9h1/linux-aws-6.5-6.5.0/drivers/net/xen-netfront.c:349:9 " mul

2024-03-30 Thread Chris Mounce
This may have already been fixed upstream in December 2023: this commit
to xen-project/xen looks extremely relevant, because it purports to fix
an UBSAN issue with the exact same error text as this issue ("UBSAN:
index 1 is out of range for type 'xen_netif_rx_sring_entry [1]'"):

https://github.com/xen-
project/xen/commit/93d913c6e66e01597681d0a456c1523279218524

I am way out of my depth here, but as I understand it, these xen files
get vendored into the Linux codebase:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?id=125c0a646a257fd58de223f2c3e1fe8a99085644

...and from there, they get copied into the git repos for both Ubuntu's
`linux` and `linux-aws` packages. Here's one of the affected files in
the Jammy LTS repos, and it definitely hasn't been patched because it
was last updated in 2021:

- linux:
https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/jammy/log/include/xen/interface/io/ring.h
- linux-aws:
https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-aws/+git/jammy/log/include/xen/interface/io/ring.h

[Bug 2059853] [NEW] apt amd64 2.7.14 is missing on Ubuntu Noble?

2024-03-30 Thread Steven Shiau
Public bug reported:

I can not find the apt amd64 version 2.7.14 on Ubuntu Noble. It seems apt only
exists for non-amd64 architecture:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=noble=apt
noble (admin): commandline package manager
2.7.14: arm64 armhf i386 ppc64el riscv64 s390x

I can not find any docs stating this. Is it a bug or ?
Thank you very much.

2024-03-30 Thread Chris Mounce
I am also affected by this. I have an Ubuntu webserver (t2.micro,
22.04.4 LTS (jammy)) that suddenly started having these show up in the
kernel journalctl logs, multiple times at boot time.

Just to be sure I had the latest everything, I ran `apt update`, `apt
upgrade`, and rebooted; the UBSAN error still shows up in the logs.
`uname -r` says I'm running 6.5.0-1016-aws.

The webserver still functions as far as I can tell, but it's definitely
a regression. I created this EC2 instance with 22.04 a couple of months
ago, and it suddenly started happening.

[Bug 2059272] Re: libvirt domain is not listed/managed after libvirt restart with messages "internal error: no monitor path" and "Failed to load config for domain"

2024-03-30 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Steps with test packages on Focal (shutdown-on-init)
---

Environment:
---

On top of LXD VM in comments #12/#13.

Enable PPA & debug symbols

sudo add-apt-repository -yn ppa:mfo/lp2059272
sudo sed '/^deb / s,$, main/debug,' -i
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/mfo-ubuntu-lp2059272-focal.list
sudo apt update

Install packages

sudo apt install --yes libvirt{0,-daemon{,-driver-
qemu}}{,-dbgsym} libvirt-clients gdb qemu-system-x86

$ dpkg -s libvirt-daemon | grep ^Version:
Version: 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.18~ppa1

t 20

(gdb) p xmlopt.privateData.format
$1 = (virDomainXMLPrivateDataFormatFunc) 0x7fe644152890

Let the cleanup function finish

t 1
finish

Notice it took a while (30 seconds).

(gdb) t 20
(gdb) p xmlopt.privateData.format
$3 = (virDomainXMLPrivateDataFormatFunc) 0x0

Let the save function continue, and libvirt finish shutdown:

(gdb) c &
(gdb) t 1
(gdb) c
(gdb) q

Check the VM status XML *after*:

ubuntu@lp2059272-focal:~$ sudo grep -e '

And everything happened as in the reproducer.
i.e., the SAME behavior happened BY DEFAULT.
Just with a 30 seconds delay.

Checking the libvirtd debug logs to confirm the patch behavior:

Check the formatter/options again; it is *STILL* referenced, not 0x0
anymore:

t 20

(gdb) p xmlopt.privateData.format
$2 = (virDomainXMLPrivateDataFormatFunc) 0x7fb32c167890

Check the shutdown/cleanup thread is waiting for it,
in the path to free the worker thread pool:

Let the save function continue, and libvirt finishes shutting down:

(gdb) c &
Continuing.
(gdb) t 20
(gdb) c
[Inferior 1 (process 6585) exited normally]
(gdb) q

Check the VM status XML *after*:

$ sudo grep -e '

It *still* has the 'monitor path' tag/field.

Now, the next time libvirtd starts, it correctly parses that XML:

$ sudo systemctl start libvirtd.service

$ journalctl -b -u libvirtd.service | grep -A1 error
Mar 30 22:27:20 lp2059272-focal libvirtd[6670]: 6686: error :
dnsmasqCapsRefreshInternal:714 : Cannot check dnsmasq binary /usr/sbin/dnsmasq:
No such file or directory

And libvirt is aware of the domain, and can manage it:

$ virsh list
 Id   Name  State
-
 1test-vm   running

$ virsh destroy test-vm
Domain test-vm destroyed

[Bug 2059851] Re: gimp segfault

2024-03-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Run these commands:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 2054510] Re: Incomplete screen redraws in virtual machines running Xorg

2024-03-30 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Another most likely duplicate: https://github.com/gnome-
terminator/terminator/issues/899

And yet another most likely duplicate:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=294164. Here a user claims
that downgrading gnome-shell and mutter fixes the issue, and points to
upstream issue https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/3384.

Based on that report, some non-VTE-based apps are also affected.

It really looks like the bug is in upstream Mutter, and made it into
downstream updates as well.

Re: [Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag in native terminal

2024-03-30 Thread Marek
I am deeply sorry - I must have selected the wrong option in 'ubuntu-bug'.
I am referring to the native terminal installed on ubuntu 22.04, which for
the last few days seems to be lagging due to some latest update. There is
an input delay, noticeable, and the deleting of input text comes with a
delay, too.

[Bug 2054510] Re: Incomplete screen redraws in virtual machines running Xorg

2024-03-30 Thread Egmont Koblinger
During the last barely more than 24 hours, at least 4 people have
reported/confirmed heavy latencies newly appearing in their GNOME
Terminal. One person with Ubuntu 23.10 and two people with Ubuntu 22.04
(one of which comments has just been removed).

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-terminal/-/issues/8070

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1509058/input-delay-on-terminal-
ubuntu-22-04-4

GNOME Terminal, and its underlying VTE terminal emulator widget, did not
receive any updates recently in Ubuntu, so it's highly suspected that
the bug sneaked in into some other component (or maybe a valid change in
some other component triggered a yet undiscovered bug in VTE / GNOME
Terminal).

Even though I cannot reproduce the issue myself, I went through the log
of my recent apt updates, and this mutter change is the only one
seemingly relevant (see https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
terminal/-/issues/8070#note_2067801 onwards); in fact, the summary
showing a suspiciously high correlation with the new problem.

At this point I don't have anything concrete, and it might just be a
random coincidence, but I highly suspect that this recent mutter update
introduces severe lagging in GNOME Terminal (and other terminal
emulators using VTE's GTK3 version).

[Bug 2057792] Re: Some Games are crashing linked to a vm_max_map_count too low

2024-03-30 Thread vadim
I suggest including 2147483642 not in LTS, but in Ubuntu 24.10 as an
experiment. Because I noticed an unpleasant detail. For example, there
is a game "Don't Starve," I know there is a native version, but this is
just as an experiment with Proton. If you launch the Proton version, you
will receive a message when vm.max_map_count = 1048576:
"steam_app_218740" is not responding. You may choose to wait a short
while for it to continue or force the app to quit entirely. But when
vm.max_map_count = 2147483642, there are no problems, everything loads
instantly.

[Bug 2044718] Re: mantic on raspberry5: x and/or lightdm problems

I agree; however, I don't know exactly how to proceed/who to report it
to. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The current work around
works great, but it's still a manual work around with everyone having to
search for an answer.

[Bug 2059845] [NEW] outdated Openbox config files exist in /usr/share in Lubuntu

2024-03-30 Thread ԜаӀtеr Ⅼарсһуnѕkі
Public bug reported:

There is a menu.xml and a rc.xml in /usr/share/lubuntu/openbox:
https://git.lubuntu.me/Lubuntu/lubuntu-default-settings/src/branch/ubuntu/noble/src/usr/share/lubuntu/openbox

We already have these files in /etc/xdg/xdg-Lubuntu/openbox:
https://git.lubuntu.me/Lubuntu/lubuntu-default-settings/src/branch/ubuntu/noble/src/etc/xdg/xdg-Lubuntu/openbox

The latter is part of $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS, where as the former is part of
$XDG_DATA_DIRS. Of the two, Openbox only searches $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS, so
these files are of little functional concern.

However, should a user add the directory to $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS or should
they copy it to $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS or $XDG_CONFIG_HOME, this could create
all sorts of problems. Outside of the fact that it refers to old
vestiges of the LXDE Lubuntu (like lxsession-default), there is a
potential problem for shortcut conflicts and thus unexpected behavior.
We long ago moved most of the shortcuts out of the Openbox configuration
and into lxqt-globalkeys because of the potential for conflicts.

It looks like during the LXDE -> LXQt transition, we deprecated a lot of config
files, but apparently missed these:

Can confirm here, did the test and only work with complete PSU power
cycle. Turn of, waited few seconds and then power on again.

Yes, same here, after normal reboot or shutdown (assuming it happens,
because it also hangs on shutdown/reboot now), it **only** works after
PSU power cycle

Wow, indeed, after upgrade powered off my desktop, flipped the PSU
switch for a few minutes and it worked on boot. This is very weird
behavior.

Sadly, its short lived. Mine stopped working again after the first
resume from suspend that occurred after the cold boot.

[Bug 2059835] [NEW] $OPTIONS variable missing in "ExecStartPre" of proftpd-basic systemd unit

2024-03-30 Thread kodu.cloud
Public bug reported:

Package: proftpd-core
Version: 1.3.7c+dfsg-1build1
Architecture: amd64

The $OPTIONS environment variable is defined in the
/lib/systemd/system/proftpd.service file and used in the "ExecStart"
line when starting the service, but it is not used when calling
--configtest in the "ExecStartPre" line:

[Service]
Type=forking
Environment=OPTIONS= CONFIG_FILE=/etc/proftpd/proftpd.conf
EnvironmentFile=-/etc/default/proftpd
ExecStartPre=/usr/sbin/proftpd --configtest -c $CONFIG_FILE
ExecStart=/usr/sbin/proftpd -c $CONFIG_FILE $OPTIONS
ExecReload=/bin/kill -HUP $MAINPID
PIDFile=/run/proftpd.pid

If the server's hostname cannot be resolved for some reason, proftpd will not
start.
Adding the line below to the /etc/default/proftpd file can circumvent this
issue:

OPTIONS="-S 0.0.0.0"

However, due to the absence of the $OPTIONS variable in "ExecStartPre",
the OPTIONS line in the /etc/default/proftpd will be ignored, "--
configtest" will fail and proftpd will not start.

We believe the $OPTIONS variable should be added to the "ExecStartPre"
line.

Best regards,
kodu.cloud team.

On x86, this compiles into movdqa which segfaults on unaligned access.

This kind of failure has been seen when running against glibc 2.39,
which incidentally changed the printf implementation to move away from
alloca() for this data to instead append it at the end of an existing
"scratch buffer", with arbitrary alignment, whereas alloca() was
probably more likely to be naturally aligned.

Tested by adding the patch to the Ubuntu gcc-14 package in
https://launchpad.net/~schopin/+archive/ubuntu/libquadmath

2024-03-30 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2059825/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 2056668] Re: Thunderbird Snap migration loses user profile

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 2056434 ***

Hello:

I started with the same proble.

By following that advice:

`ln -s /home/pang/.thunderbird /home/pang/snap/thunderbird/common/`

my profile does appear in the list when I run `thunderbird -P`, but then

 1. I get the following output
```
```
 2. then a popup window appear with the text
```Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To use Thunderbird,
you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, restart your device, or
use a different profile.```, and an "ok" button
 3. When I click the ok button, the window closes, and thunderbird does
not raise.
Is this the same bug?
[Bug 2058960] Re: FFe: Sync svt-av1 2.0.0+dfsg-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)
2024-03-30 Thread Oibaf
It looks like libheif fails to build:
https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu/test/+packages?field.series_filter=noble
even if just a simple patch should be needed:
https://github.com/strukturag/libheif/commit/a911b26a902c5f89fee2dc20ac4dfaafcb8144ec
The other reverse deps also fails on some archs, but due to different
problems (likely related to t64 transitions).
Probably better to not proceed and close this issue.
