[Bug 2063983] [NEW] 24.04 Upgrade/Fresh Install results in black screen on reboot on AMDGPU system

2024-04-27 Thread twelfth
Public bug reported:

Config: Ryzen 5 5600X with Radeon 6800 XT GPU, a Navi21 card.

Using xUbuntu.

I had been daily driving the 24.04 nightly iso since March. About a week
ago, I took a kernel update via apt and rebooted. The result was that
the system would hard freeze to a black screen after the initial kernel
messages cleared from the screen. Ctrl-Alt-Del did nothing, switching
terminals (ctrl-alt-f#) did nothing, had to hard power off to regain
control of the system.

I tried various fixes, none of which permanently stuck. This includes
nomodeset in grub, rebooting into safe mode, checking for proprietary
drivers. Safe mode allowed me to reboot once more into desktop, but then
any subsequent reboots would result in a black screen lockup.

Suspending while able to use the desktop before reboot would cause a
black screen lockup did not seem to cause any issues.

3 days before 24.04 was officially released, I reflashed the most recent
installer iso to my thumbdrive, copied my home folder to my RAID and did
a full wipe and fresh install.

First reboot after installation always went to the desktop. Subsequent
reboots always resulted in a black screen lockup.

Memtest cleared without errors.

Again tried various fixes, nomodeset, safe mode, drivers. The only
consistency was that regardless of what I could do to regain control or
what I did differently when doing a wipe and reinstall, I would always
reboot to a black screen.

Once 24.04 was officially released, I again did a full wipe and
reinstall and encountered all of the above same issues as before.

After mentioning this in #ubuntu on libera, someone suggested a kernel
downgrade.

24.04 as installed was using 6.8.0-31.31

Using Mainline, I downgraded to the next minor version below 6.8 that
was considered stable. 6.7.10

Problem went away. No more black screen on boot, no more hard power offs
required to be able to use my system again, no suspend issues. Was not
necessary for me to do anything else to maintain a consistent successful
reboot to desktop.

Did yet another full wipe and fresh install of 24.04, only installing
Mainline upon first reboot to install 6.7.10, using Grub Customizer to
edit the default grub option to boot the 6.7.10 kernel instead.

No issues.

I apologise that I did not collect logs during this process.

[Bug 2063456] Re: package cephadm: dependency "cephadmlib" missing

2024-04-27 Thread Johan Bosch
A temporary fix is to check out source package build and copy out
cephadmlib

apt source cephadm
cd ceph-19.2.0~git20240301.4c76c50/
debuild -us -uc
mkdir /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/cephadmlib
cp -R ./debian/tmp/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/cephadmlib/*
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/cephadmlib/

currently the build script ignores copying the cephadmlib (dont know why
and im not familiar enough with the scripts to make it not ignore it
now with my morning coffee)

[Bug 2063976] Re: Apparmor breaking nsjail in AOSP

2024-04-27 Thread Alexander Koskovich
Thanks, I took a look at creating a profile for nsjail, but I'm a bit
confused on how to associate it with the app?

Because nsjail is a prebuilt in AOSP's source code that means it could be
litteraly anywhere on the user's system, e.g:
~/android-14.0.0_r1/prebuilts/build-tools/linux-x86/bin/nsjail
~/android-13.0.0_r1/prebuilts/build-tools/linux-x86/bin/nsjail
~/android-12.0.0_r1/prebuilts/build-tools/linux-x86/bin/nsjail

```
profile nsjail /**/prebuilts/build-tools/linux-x86/bin/nsjail
flags=(unconfined) {
```

I tested the above and it works, but is there a better way to do this?
Feels dirty and not what apparmor people would want.

[Bug 2063976] Re: Apparmor breaking nsjail in AOSP

2024-04-27 Thread John Johansen
Commit 789cda2f089b3cd3c8c4ca387f023a36f7f1738a only controls the
behavior of unprivileged user namespace mediation.

With the unprivileged_userns profile loaded, when a user namespace is
created by an unprivileged unconfined application the task will be
transitioned into the unprivileged_userns profile. The
unprivileged_userns profile will then deny privileged operations
capability, mount etc.

Without the unprivileged_userns profile loaded, the creation of the user
namespace will be denied.

Through experimentation we have learned that many applications behave
better (handle the errors better, eg. qtwebkit will handle the error and
fallback to using a sandbox without usernamespaces while without the
profile it crashes) with the unprivileged_userns loaded. So that has
become the default behavior.

You can experiment with changing the behavior by manually unloading the
unprivileged_userns profile using

  sudo apparmor_parser -R /etc/apparmor.d/unprivileged_userns

nsjail will likely require a profile to work, please see
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/noble-numbat-release-
notes/39890#unprivileged-user-namespace-restrictions-15

[Bug 2037015] Re: Screen corruption of webkit2gtk apps in X11 on Raspberry Pi, such as during install

2024-04-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The crash (bug 2062146) is now awkwardly entangled with this bug. It
occurs at the same time as, or usually instead of corruption. Bisected
in Mesa:

  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/11033#note_2385595

Prior to that regression, I still believe the corruption probably
started around:

https://github.com/WebKit/WebKit/commit/8b0ce3683045d93cd365e91a4299f7e9babfc126

If you need a workaround for both issues then the best I have found is
environment:

[Bug 2063977] [NEW] upgrade from 20.04 to 22.04 crashes

2024-04-27 Thread Li Chiu
Public bug reported:

upgrade show the following error:

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

 This was likely caused by:
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge
package to remove software from a Launchpad PPA and
try the upgrade again.

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command
'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If you want to
investigate this yourself the log files in '/var/log/dist-upgrade' will
contain details about the upgrade. Specifically, look at 'main.log' and

[Bug 2063976] [NEW] Apparmor breaking nsjail in AOSP

2024-04-27 Thread Alexander Koskovich
Public bug reported:

Build sandboxing in AOSP is broken after updating to 24.04 with the
following denials:

[  182.439078] audit: type=1400 audit(1714265880.641:449): apparmor="AUDIT"

[Bug 2063919] Re: [patch] Disable ttyxi input processing under Wayland

2024-04-27 Thread Unxed
** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]

  The response to keyboard button presses has a noticeable delay, and the
  ESC key has to be pressed twice. Bug reproduces only in Wayland
  sessions, but not in X11 sessions.

  This seriously affects user experience, so fix should be backported to
  stable release.

- Fix works as follows: far2l uses X11-secific technique to receive key
+ Fix works as follows: far2l uses X11-specific technique to receive key
  combinations often not available in common terminal emulators, like
  Ctrl+0, and also to distinguish ESC key presses from char with 27 code
  sent to terminal. It is called ttyxi mode (xi for XInput it uses). But
  under Wayland this technique is not working due to Wayland security
  model, and also introduces delay bug. This patch disables this technique
  under Wayland, and enables other way for ESC key processing using delay
  measurement, like mc does.

  [ Test plan ]

  1. Install far2l in Ubuntu 24.04:
  apt install far2l

  2. Run far2l:
  far2l

  3. Press some keys to notice input delay; open any dialog (press F1 for
  example) and try to close it using ESC key to notice you should press it
  twice.

  [ Where problems could occur ]

  The fix is already in master branch of upstream far2l, it is also
  presents in far2l ppa and no problems were found during testing by
  enthusiasts. The only problem is extended key support will not work in
  common terminals, but is can not work under Wayland anyway. Still you
  can use kitty terminal emulator that has extended keyboard protocol
  allowing apps to receive any key combinations.

  This patch (from upstream) fixing both issues (also attached as a file below):
  https://patch-diff.githubusercontent.com/raw/elfmz/far2l/pull/2043.diff

  far2l 2.6.1~beta+ds-1 from Debian already has similar fix applied.

  [ Other info ]

  The workaround is to run far2l as follows:
  far2l --nodetect=xi --ee

  First option, --nodetect=xi, disables ttyxi mode (it is X11-specific and
  can not operate under Wayland anyway). The second option enables ESC key
  processing using delays measurement, as it is done in mc.

  In Noble + 1 this will be fixed by auto-sync of far2l 2.6.1~beta+ds-1
  from Debian.

[Bug 2046844] Re: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP

2024-04-27 Thread John Johansen
Balena Etcher 1.18 dpkg won't install on 24.04 due to dependency issues,
1.19.16 installs fine and runs, but in a degraded sandbox mode. So
adding a profile for it would be beneficial

The appimage version of Belena Etcher unfortunately fails to run. We can not
provide a default profile for the appimage unless it the user moves it to the
default deb install location (ie. installs it to the system, instead of running
it from their home dir). Users are free to add their own confinement profiles
for appimages. Directions are in

[Bug 2063895] Re: Multiple plymouth themes display wrong keyboard layout for decryption due to outdated keymap-render.png

2024-04-27 Thread ԜаӀtеr Ⅼарсһуnѕkі
In addition to Ubuntu Desktop, Kubuntu, and Ubuntu Cinnamon, this also does not
affect:
 * Ubuntu Budgie (us keyboard layout is shown)
 * Ubuntu MATE (their bootscreen is based off a version before the spinner so
no keyboard layout is shown)
 * Ubuntu Kylin (same reason as MATE)

Xubuntu's encryption is broken because cryptsetup wasn't in ship-live so
it's not as easy to test that.

Hey all, I'm on the Lenovo Legion Slim 7 Gen 7 AMD version from 2022,
and all of a sudden, after upgrading my Fedora install to
6.8.6-200.fc39.x86_64 my audio works! Not sure what happened on that
front, but figured I'd stop back in and update.

I was able to get my sound working by logging out and back in.

After I got it working, I ran this:
lsof -p3468 | wc -l
1013

I wonder if it was around 1024 before I logged out..?

The open file limit for the process is: 1024

This explains why "killall pipewire-pulse" would get my sound working
again for a single application... It was freeing up one file descriptor.

Is this a pipewire bug, a tas2781 driver bug, or a bit of both? I think
if this were a general pipewire issue, we'd be hearing a lot more
complaints...

After logging in, I tried this:
systemctl restart --user pipewire

This resulted in a new pipewire process and only 25 open file
descriptors. Wonder if this would have fixed the issue without logging
out? Something else to try next time.

Next time this happens, I'll see if I can figure what all the file
descriptors are for.

For others having this or similar trouble, see if you're having similar
issues with pipewire (or perhaps even pulse) and file descriptors.

/var/log/syslog is another valid place to check for these messages (at
least on Ubuntu).

  Fix works as follows: far2l uses X11-secific technique to receive key
  combinations often not available in common terminal emulators, like
  Ctrl+0, and also to distinguish ESC key presses from char with 27 code
  sent to terminal.

+ far2l 2.6.1~beta+ds-1 from Debian already has similar fix applied.
+
  [ Other info ]

  The workaround is to run far2l as follows:
  far2l --nodetect=xi --ee

  First option, --nodetect=xi, disables ttyxi mode (it is X11-specific and
  can not operate under Wayland anyway). The second option enables ESC key
  processing using delays measurement, as it is done in mc.

  In Noble + 1 this will be fixed by auto-sync of far2l 2.6.1~beta+ds-1
  from Debian.

[Bug 2063974] [NEW] Multiple apps do not display correctly with nvidia 470 display driver

2024-04-27 Thread james.d.hutton
Public bug reported:

With the 470 nvidia display driver on Ubuntu 24.04 with a Geforce GT 730
GPU, multiple apps do not repaint/redraw the screen correctly. I have
attached a screenshot demonstrating the problem occurring with the
"Settings" app. Note that none of the text is appearing in the window.
When I roll the mouse over the window, the text appears beneath the
mouse pointer, so the problem appears be an invalidation/repaint
problem. Similar problems occur with the "Files" app, and the "Text
Editor" app, among others. When I switch to the nouveau display driver,
the problem goes away, so I can be confident the problem is specific to
the nvidia driver.

[Bug 2063970] Re: Enhanced tiling orange shading that indicates what a window will resize to will persist even after I'm done with the adjustment.

2024-04-27 Thread Jon Crall
I've confirmed it does happen when just using super+arrow and no mouse
interaction. I still cannot get it to work reliably though.

My monitor setup looks roughly like this:

```
+--+
|2 | +--+
|  | |1 |
+--+ |  |
+--+ |  |
|3 | |  |
|  | |  |
+--+ +--+
```

In one test, I was moving a window in monitor 3, and after pressing
super+down the orange box appeared across the bottom of monitor 2, which
is kinda weird.

[Bug 2062667] Re: Fails on (and should be removed from) raspi desktop

2024-04-27 Thread Mark Esler
This impacts all arm64 installs, not just raspberry pi.

The MIR for qrtr and protection-domain-mapper [0] was requested late in
the Mantic cycle and was only approved by Security since it was promised
to only be used for x13s hardware enablement. Hopefully Qualcomm IPC is
only enabled for x13s kernels.

As noted in the qrtr MIR:
> We should be cautious of IPC routers running root permissions. Similar code
> has
> enabled vendor backdoors [1].

Furthermore, qrtr has nearly no documentation and has no inline code
comments [2].

Please remove this from the mantic and noble's ubuntu-meta package.

[Bug 2063973] [NEW] network-online.target is reached before netplan-configured interfaces are online

2024-04-27 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Running Ubuntu 24.04 with netplan.io/netplan-generator 1.0-2ubuntu1.

I use a systemd unit to mount an NFS filesystem. That unit should only
be activated when the network is ready. However, it looks like network-
online.target is reached before netplan-configured interfaces are up, so
the unit triggers too early and sometimes fail (because it cannot
resolve the name of the remote server).

I configured netplan manually with:
```
# cat /etc/netplan/01-netcfg.yaml
---
network:
  version: 2
  renderer: networkd
  ethernets:
eno1:
  dhcp4: true
```

I see the following during boot:

```
Apr 27 23:31:28 localhost systemd[1]: Starting systemd-networkd.service -
Apr 27 23:31:28 localhost systemd-networkd[1190]: lo: Link UP
The key message here seems to be:
Apr 27 23:31:28 localhost systemd[1]: systemd-networkd-wait-online.service -
Wait for Network to be Configured was skipped because of an unmet condition
check
(ConditionPathIsSymbolicLink=/run/systemd/generator/network-online.target.wants/systemd-networkd-wait-online.service).
Why doesn't netplan generate that symlink? It seems it does generate it, but
only later, when systemd reloads at 23:31:29 (according to 'stat' on the
symlink).
It worked fine with Ubuntu 22.04:
"systemd[1]: Reached target Network is Online."
only appears after the interface got configured via DHCP.
[Bug 1953572] Re: Broken links in the View Trends and the View Histogram menu
2024-04-27 Thread Jorge Merlino
** Description changed:
  [Impact]
  The links for the following are broken in the Service Information or the Host
Information menus for the following links:
  View Trends For This Service
  View Alert Histogram For This Service
  View Trends For This Host
  View Alert Histogram For This Host
  [Test Plan]
  Just access those links in: Current status / Hosts and Current status /
Services and choosing a host or a service
  [Where problems could occur]
  The URLs for all cgi scripts are modified. I tested extensively but there may
be some section of the web UI that might get affected by this change. Also
installed nagios from source and the URLs are the same as the ones in this
package after the change so if something breaks it probable is broken also
upstream.
  [Other Info]
- The same package is used for noble, mantic and jammy
+ The patch consists in changing the with-cgiurl to /nagios4/cgi-bin as, per
limitations on the Nagios code, the html files (on /nagios4) should be one
folder level below cgi-bin. This is because sometimes Nagios tries to reach
html files as ../file.html while the base url is pointing to the cgi-bin folder.
[Bug 2063970] Re: Enhanced tiling orange shading that indicates what a window will resize to will persist even after I'm done with the adjustment.
2024-04-27 Thread Jon Crall
I was able to get a screenshot of the issue. I edited the images to
remove sensitive information I was working with at the time, but the
point is that I was moving around windows (I forget if I was using
super+arrow or dragging to corners), and the issue happened. I'm still
not sure exactly how to reproduce, but this at least provides some
illustration of what is happening.
Also note. I have 3 monitors. Two are in landscape and 1 is in portrait.
Nothing of interest was in the other monitors. I'll also note I'm using
nvidia graphics. I have an RTX 3090 driving the 3 monitors.
[Bug 2063970] [NEW] Enhanced tiling orange shading that indicates what a window will resize to will persist even after I'm done with the adjustment.
2024-04-27 Thread Jon Crall
Public bug reported:
I've got a fresh install of the first 24.04 release, and I'm seeing
strange behavior related to super+arrow keys and the enhanced tiling.
I've disabled tiling popups and tiling groups, but I like the quad
blocks.
The issue is when I'm moving around windows, sometimes the orange
shading that indicates what a window will resize to will persist even
after I'm done with the adjustment.
I'm not sure how to reproduce yet, but it's happened several times. Not
sure if I'll be able to take a screenshot or not.
[Bug 2037004] Re: warnings in terminal with software-properties-gtk
2024-04-27 Thread food-ray
Initially, the warning/error "udevadm hwdb is deprecated. Use systemd-
hwdb instead." repeats 6 times (either as described above, or when
running "ubuntu-drivers devices"). After adding ppa:graphics-
drivers/ppa, the warning/error repeats 8 times. The number of repeats
seems to correspond to the number of driver options (not counting
nouveau). Also, nvidia-driver-545 appears after adding the ppa, but 550
does not.
[Bug 2063966] [NEW] version not compatible with python3
2024-04-27 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Public bug reported:
version 1.5 of dhcpig released some time in 2017 is not compatible with
python3.  At least that's what the release note for version 1.6 seems to
suggest.  And what my test on jammy confirms.
[Bug 2063254] Re: firewire_ohci stops under moderate load
2024-04-27 Thread Rick Sayre
Update: this is strangely related to nouveau
On a machine with a "NVIDIA MCP89 [GeForce 320M]" the nvidia drivers have been
removed from 22.04.  nouveau when run normally now causes a hang [see other
reports if curious]
The described "firewire_ohci quits when using firefox" happens when kernel
launched with kernel flag
nomodeset
When launched, instead, with
nouveau.noaccel=1
...normal usage does not affect firewire_ohci, as expected and desired
Re: [Bug 2063952] [NEW] Upgrade problem caused by many mistakes and broken packages.
2024-04-27 Thread Bas Roufs
Wanna add one thing.
Thanks God, I DID manage to read and write my 128 GB Ventoy USB. I already
copied the ISO to it from Kubuntu 24.04 LTS.I
However, I cannot read the 2 and 4 GB USB devices I am using for backup
purposes. This is one of the reasons, I have decided to carry out a fresh
install of the latest Kubuntu LTS at my system.
Yours.
Bas.
[Bug 2063965] [NEW] package sgml-base 1.31 failed to install/upgrade: Local modifications to /etc/pam.d/common-* triggered dpkg error
2024-04-27 Thread Andrea Agnolin
Public bug reported:
Summary:
Running `sudo apt install libpam-mount` I get
```
pam-auth-update: Local modifications to /etc/pam.d/common-*, not updating.
pam-auth-update: Run pam-auth-update --force to override.

Setting up libpam-mount-bin (2.19-1) ...
Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.38-1ubuntu6.2) ...
Processing triggers for man-db (2.11.2-3) ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 sgml-base
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
```
Plus apport-gtk pop-up
My `/etc/pam.d/common-authentication` is modified.
1) Release
```$ lsb_release -r
Release:23.10
```
2) Package version
```$  apt-cache policy sgml-base libpam-mount
sgml-base:
  Installed: 1.31
  Candidate: 1.31
  Version table:
 *** 1.31 500

  Installed: 2.19-1
  Candidate: 2.19-1
  Version table:

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.18-2build2 500
500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/main amd64 Packages
```
3) What is expected
Usually in this situation I get a dpkg prompt saying something like
"package maintainer provided a different configuration file" and asking
me which version of the configuration file. Or to see the differences.
Some file are then saved and `NAME.dpkg-new`/`NAME.dpkg-old`.
This way I can install the module and care about editing
`/etc/pam.d/common-auth` later.
4) What happened
See error above
[Bug 1955850] Re: /etc/X11/Xresources no longer loaded, error in patch
2024-04-27 Thread Ken Gilmer
This seems to be preventing the Regolith X11 desktop session from
properly initializing. Due to this bug, the gdm3-produced Xsession does
not initialize xrdb, which is a required component in Regolith.  While a
workaround seems simple enough, I guess any X11-based gdm3 session with
applications that use Xresources may not be properly initialized on a
system with this bug.  As such, IMO this bug deserves to be fixed.
[Bug 2063827] Re: Gnome Control Center fails to open on Wayland
2024-04-27 Thread John Doe
I want to add: I faced a similar issue. Though updating to the 550
drivers through apt seemingly fixed the issue, there was actually more
issues at play.
First and foremost, on the Wayland session, running "glxinfo | egrep "OpenGL
vendor|OpenGL renderer" returns:
"OpenGL vendor string: Mesa
OpenGL renderer string: llvmpipe (LLVM 17.0.6, 256 bits)"
Upon some further research, I learned that the renderer being "llvmpipe"
means that the nvidia driver isn't properly working. I'll note, also,
that I could only install the driver using apt, as the ubuntu-drivers
utility didn't show any drivers newer than 535. I can't tell if the
driver installation broke, but nvidia-smi does return the expected
output. And on XOrg, glxinfo mentions the nvidia drivers and my graphics
card (RTX 4080).
I don't know if this implies that the nvidia drivers are currently
bugged on wayland.
Again, I had a similar issue as OP upon a fresh install. All the gnome
apps crashed (settings, the first-installation greeter) and going
through the errors, it listed a segmentation fault (I'm sorry, but I
can't reproduce it now).
Came here for the missing icon, but the transition was also slow; I
ended up opening five or more instances of thunderbird when starting up.
[Bug 2063950] Re: duplicate JsonCpp::JsonCpp leads to build failures
2024-04-27 Thread dann frazier
** Description changed:
  [Impact]
  Users trying to build software that links w/ jammy's libjsoncpp library will
hit a build failure if that software uses cmake and another library that also
requires libjsoncpp because libjsoncpp's cmake config does not protect against
duplicate imports. This can be reproduced by building a a newer version of
cmake itself using system libjsoncpp (I was trying to build 3.27.4, but I also
checked that it impacts cmake master).
  [Test Case]
  This can be demonstrated by calling find_package twice in a row:
  $ mkdir test && cd test
  $ cat > CMakeLists.txt << EOF
  project(test)
  find_package(jsoncpp 1.9.5)
  find_package(jsoncpp 1.9.5)
  EOF
  $ cmake .
[Bug 2063893] Re: after last OS uptate system will not boot normaly.
2024-04-27 Thread Sni
Hello, I have the same or similar problem, after a dist-upgrade and
subsequent reboot, my server ran into a kernel panic (sync init). I have
the problem with the linux-6.5.0-34-generic kernel, the
linux-6.5.0-28-generic and all previous ones work fine.
Since the kernel does not seem to mount the root volume, there are no
logs.
[Bug 2059038] Re: gnucash doesn't start
2024-04-27 Thread John D Lamb
I found a fix for this that at least works for me.
;;; note: source file /usr/share/guile/3.0/ice-9/eval.scm
;;; newer than compiled /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/guile/3.0/ccache/ice-9/eval.go
stat /usr/share/guile/3.0/ice-9/eval.scm
and
stat /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/guile/3.0/ccache/ice-9/eval.go
showed that eval.scm was one second newer than eval.go. I’m not sure
why. This didn’t happen on my last installation of mantic. But using
touch -m --date="…"
to set the modification dates of all the .scm files in /usr/share/guile/
to 2 seconds earlier stops the attempted compilation process and lets
GnuCash start normally.
[Bug 2063955] [NEW] 23.10 to 24.04 upgrade needed to reinstall of GPU drivers for Blender to see them
2024-04-27 Thread Jaakan Shorter
Public bug reported:
how to reproduce the issue
1. clean install of Ubuntu 23.10 on something like a Dell Optiplex 5050 + GTX
1650
2. make sure nvidia-driver-535(proprietary, tested) is installed and active
3. install Blender 4.1.1 from Snap
4. open Blender and go to the GPU settings, GPU should be listed
5. update to current patch level IE update-manager ( reboot )
6. upgrade to 24.04 via update-manager -d ( reboot )
7. open Blender and go to the GPU settings, GPU should be missing
to fix
1. switch to nouveau ( reboot )
2. switch back to nvidia-driver-535(proprietary, tested) ( reboot )
3. open Blender and go to the GPU settings, GPU should be listed
Dell Optiplex 5050 ( GF's daughter's computer, she uses for Blender 4.1.1 )
I7-7700
GTX 1650 + nvidia-driver-535(proprietary, tested)
was on Ubuntu 23.10
Did an update-manager -d to 24.04 and everything seemed to go smoothly.
I opened Blender 4.1.1 and it couldn't find the GPU. I had to switch to
nouveau, reboot, switch back to nvidia-driver-535(proprietary, tested),
and reboot and Blender 4.1.1 could find the GPU again.
I did the same on my computer
Custom PC
i5-12400F
Arc A750 + intel's Ubuntu Repo
was on Ubuntu 23.10
Did an update-manager -d to 24.04 and everything seemed to go smoothly
too. I opened Blender 4.1.1 and it couldn't find the GPU. I tired older
versions no luck. reinstalled all the packages from intel no luck. this
might be partly an intel issue so I posted in their community too
[Bug 2063888] Re: 24.04 unusable after Gnome-Tweaks change to the mouse pointer
2024-04-27 Thread aki
I also ran into this problem by changing my cursor in gnome-tweaks to
RedGlass (I later confirmed it also happens with other cursor themes, so
seems it is not specific...). I am not sure if this can solve your
problem with 22.04, but for anyone else who runs into this issue and
lands here, I managed to recover by doing the following:
1. entering tty3 (cntrl-alt-f3)
2. logging in,
3. and then running the following to reset the cursor theme:
```
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-theme 'Yaru'
```
4. then reboot with `sudo reboot 0`.
I don't know the cause, but hopefully this advice can help somebody...
