[Bug 1530530] Re: Installer doesn't show up on some Chromebooks: "Error setting up gfxboot"

2016-11-02 Thread [Po]lentino
It's been almost one year and still, no fix for that.. Even though even the new
Mint18 works.. great..
And I'm talking about the *Pixel 2*, in case somebody didn't read my
description at the beginning.

[Bug 1530530] [NEW] Installer doesn't show up on Chromebook Pixel 2

2016-01-02 Thread [Po]lentino
Public bug reported:

I downloaded Ubuntu Wily 15.10, then copied into an USB drive in order to use
that to install Ubuntu on my Chromebook Pixel 2.
After selecting the drive to boot from, I only get a terminal that shows up the
following lines:

graphics initialization failed
Error setting up gfxboot
boot:

Same happens with any *buntu ISO image ( I tried KDE and XFCE as well).
At this point, I tried to download the Debian8 ISO image and I noticed that
the installer doesn't recognize the video size, too but then asks for the user
to manually select a suitable video format from a list of options. From that
point on, I was able to install Debian on the chromebook.

[Bug 1530530] Re: Installer doesn't show up on Chromebook Pixel 2

2016-01-02 Thread [Po]lentino
Update: I tried Mint, and the installer just worked flawlessly: it picked the
correct video size, then launched the live session, and from there I could
install Mint easily .
Please let me know if you need more infos about the system (lspci output or
whatever else you need).

[Bug 1304856] [NEW] QDbus fails to start on login

2014-04-09 Thread [Po]lentino
Public bug reported:

Today I freshly-installed Kubuntu Thrusty Thar Beta2 downloaded from here:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/trusty/beta-2/ .
After the installation, I rebooted the laptop and i successfully logged into
KDE. After a while, the package manager notified me about new pakage updates,
so I installed them and rebooted again ... and now I cant' login into KDE
anymore.
When I try log in, a small window pops up instead and tells me :

Could not start dbus. Can you call DBus?

Weird.
So I typed CTRL+ALT+F1, logged in tty1, and invoked qdbus. Here's what I got:

Could not connect to D-Bus server:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NotSupported: Unable to autolaunch a dbus-
daemon without a $DISPLAY for X11

What's going on here?
Cheers,

Diego.

[Bug 1304805] Re: KDE desktop login failure: Could not start d-bus. Can you call qdbus?

2014-04-09 Thread [Po]lentino
I made a bugreport like this one at about same time ( #1304856 ) anyway
,since this one is the original one, I put here some additional info
that could be useful for the devs: I logged in TTY1, run qdbus, and I
got this output:

Could not connect to D-Bus server:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NotSupported: Unable to autolaunch a dbus-
daemon without a $DISPLAY for X11
