I am having the same exact error with `USB controller: ASMedia
Technology Inc. ASM1142 USB 3.1 Host Controller` and a `Logitech
StreamCam`.

I tried updating my kernel from `4.15.0-112` to `5.4.0-42` but that
didn't helped.

I brought a "dodocool DC26 SuperSpeed USB 3.1 PCI-Express Card with Dual
Type-C Ports", which was supposed to work with Linux, but it only works
for slow speed connections, if I try to use a high speed connection it
does not work.

The problem is not on the device I'm connecting. If I use an "Adaptor
Usb-C 3.1 Type-c Female to Usb-a 3.0 Male" in the onboard USB 3.0, it
works fine. I just have issues with the ASM1142.

If I keep trying to connect, I run into a error that totally disable the
ASM1142 .

When I try to access the device (opening Cheese), it turns the "camera led on" 
but no image is displayed, and this are the dmesg logs:

If I change a configuration in Cheese to use 640x800, then no errors
appear in log, and the device works. If I keep insisting in changing the
resolution options to anything higher than 640x800, the whole card is
disabled and only rebooting the device enables it again, and this
appears in dmesg logs:

I found to reproduce this bug by 2 ways:

1. When not connected to a secured (without password saved) wifi, try to
connect to the secured wifi (do not type password or do anything), go
take a rest, unlock computer and se a lot of nm-applet dialog.

2. When not connected to a secured (without password saved) wifi, try to
connect to the secured wifi (do not type password or do anything);
repeat from the begining.

To fix this bug I give the following suggestions:

Simple fix: On connect event: If keyring-dialog is visible, do nothing,
else if connection needs password and password is not saved, display
keyring-dialog.

I found to reproduce this bug by 2 ways:

  Binary package hint: gnome-panel

  This bug can always be reproduced and happen in very precise
  circumstances. When using the windows list applet (installed by
  default) on a gnome panel of at least 30 pixels placed in the right of
  the screen, it's impossible to open more than 7 windows without
  freezing completely Gnome-panel and needed to restart Gnome. Since
  gnome-panel freeze but does not crash, I can't create a backtrace.

  This bug is due to the fact that when the gnome-panel is more than 30
  pixels, icons are shown for each windows in the panel. When Gnome has
  7 windows, icons are stretched and there's no place for another
  window. At that moment, if 8th window is open, the windows list
  panel panic and gnome-panel freeze.

  How to reproduce that bug :

  1. Right clic on the default ubuntu bottom panel and click on properties
  2. Change Bottom to Right and increase the size to 30 pixels or more (
 icons must appear in the windows list in the gnome-panel when the panel is
 in the right of the screen )
  3. Once the panel is at right, open 8 windows.

  Result : Gnome panel is now completely freeze, except the notification
  area.

  Tested on gutsy and hardy, gnome-panel 1:2.20.1-0ubuntu1 and
 1:2.21.90-0ubuntu1
  Tested on Debian Sid, gnome-panel 2.20.3-1
  Tested on OpenSuse, gnome-panel 2.20.0

  Does NOT happen with :

@Martin: I never had problems of slowness in 10.04, maybe they where already
there, but as I have good hardware, never noticed. But now even in good
hardware the problem is showing up. Im using Software Center since 9.10.

This bug report in launchpad should be for all applications that are not 
respecting the Proxy Settings.
I am trying to organize it, but I am learning how to use launchpad, so 
apologies if I do something wrong.

I still believe in what Muriel de Souza Godoi  at #7, the proxy settings should 
be in network-manager (since this is what a network-manager does). This is the 
best solution, and it will change proxy settings in the ground layer, so  
applications would have no option unless use proxy settings.

Installing software is now painful. I really liked the new interface, but I 
prefer the old software center, since it was much faster. 
I am in a desktop computer. 
When I click to install, the Software Center gets really slow, and it keeps 
showing the install button. In addition all animations are slow, and even the 
install process is really slow, and takes a lot of time. 
When I am reading the description, and I press install, it never shows that it 
finished installing, and when I go back one level, it keeps the install button, 
untils I reselect it. 
Im attaching the output of my lshw.
Something is really wrong with this program.

I've never experiencied this bug in karmic. In lucid, when it was released, it 
seemed ok, but for some months this problem started to happen, and its always 
the same behavior: crops my name, and power menu is hidden. If I add another 
indicator-applet-session, an intersting behavior: it appears just the power 
button. To workaround I need to remove the buggeds applets, and add them again. 
Some simmilar issue with the indicator-applet also happen once, where just that 
'separator' 3 horizontal lines were visible, to fix it also removing and adding 
it back. Its very annoying.
When it happens, how can I help tracking this bug?

There sould be a type of clipboard that references de opened program itself,
to keep also the old style, since some programs like programs suite (i.e.
adobe creative suite) have many types of data that it can be copy and pasted
as objects that one program grabs directally from other (i.e. copy a
photoshop layer to illustrator, the layers may be there in illustrator,
since it just got the same memory reference to the same generic data object)

By default, the XServer threats the good sense way for all programs that
just didnt care about the clipboard managing.

I like selection, I just wish I could reselect other text and drop the
selection over it (maybe a special modifier key?)
Selection should be 1. activated by user. 2. possiblity to program choose
ignore it when it wishes so.

Hello, I have the same notebook model, and this is a problem. Ubuntu
idenfies the commands in keyboard to change brightness and it try to
change it.. The brightness tooltip comes in the right top corner, but
it have just a few steps (6 steps), and it does not change a thing. Is
intersting that the fadeout that heppens when its going to screensaver
happens, and it automatically turn off the monitor too.

Adding the parameter acpi_backlight=vendor to the kernel in grub makes
the brightness change, but it have too much steps, and it works very
buggy (changes automatticaly very crazy, when lighting up it goes all
dark, and comes back to where you was... very annoying), so I prefer not
using this workaround, since its worst then not having the adjust
brightness option.

In Fedora 11 the brightness works perfectly in Acer 5738. I didnt tested
the Fedora 12 yet.

Sorry, I just retested the acpi_backlight=vendor parameter in grub, and
with the latest updates its working perfect.. The last time I've tested
was in jaunty. This really fixed and works perfect.

I've just updated my /etc/default/grub with that option and the changed line 
its just like this:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash nomodeset i8042.nomux 
acpi_backlight=vendor

Just to explain: 
- nomodeset: makes something show up in the screen (fix the videodriver)
- i8042.nomux: makes the touchpad button work.
- acpi_backlight=vendor: fix the brightness problem.

Now just do the update-grub cmd. Remeber that this changes need root
privilegies, so sudo su or sudo cmd

Hello! 
I've found out that this bug is also reported by me, but this one is more 
complete.
I tested, and it freezes just when vertical panel is used, and when eight 
windows are open.

I really don't know what causes this deadlock in gnome-panel. Most times I'm 
normally working with netbeans, or surfing in the internet with firefox, and 
from notting I try to use gnome-panel, or I notice that everything is damn slow 
then I check out the gnome-panel is consuming the whole system resources. 
Maybe there is a way to put gnome-panel in debug mode?

Also, I've tryed the instructions in 
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash, and I really don't understood it. 
I've tryed but something gone wrong while getting the auth keys. This process 
should be easyer. 
I will try it again. Anything you need feel free to contact me.

I've installed gnome-panel-dbgsym=1:2.28.0-0ubuntu6... What I do now?
Also, how to make gnome-panel start with gdb, if it is automatticaly started by 
system, and I cannot close it (it imediattly reopens).

Can I have more detiled instructions on auto starting gnome-panel in
debug mode.. Since its seems to be a randomic bug, I need to use my
computer under debbugging, and I see no problem with that.

The log is attached bziped (2mb) with a screenshot. I got another with 70mb..
This event is very random, I've beem working the whole day normally, and now at 
night its haunting me.. I kill gnome-panel, and it cames back this way. 
I acctualy cannot make a strace with the bug happening, becouse its too random, 
and when I restart panel, it cames this way...

I hope this help identifing the problem (and it seems it will).

Good news.. I just figured out that running killall gnome-panel twice kills 
gnome-panel and it stops reopening.
With that I could run the full 'strace' and the 'gdb'
Both gziped in attach!


Also, running it ind commandline, I got this and it stops as expected.

Another intersting detail:
If I run sudo gnome-panel, it runs normally, but without my configuations, 
applets, transparency, ect... it cames just as a frash ubuntu install.

Hello.. I waited a lot of time, and now I could restart gnome-panel
without it coming crashed...

I've found out that if I open the applet window, it crashes. So I made
strace and gdb with this process.

This bug is affecting me also in Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, And its really 
annoying...
Looks like it enter in an eternal loop, and keep loading resouces, becouse it 
dosent stop processing and the memory use never stop growing... The last time I 
closed it, it was using 500mb+ of ram. I had loaded the same librarys thousends 
of times.

Killing it sometimes resolves, but came I time that just restart
resolves, cuz gnome-panel stop starting up too... Its really annoying.

[Bug 466045] [NEW] Serial device unstable buggy connection

Hello
I'm working with TC65 GSM Module, from Siemens/Cinteron. This module have a 
USB-Serial connection with the computer.. In ubuntu 9.04 (32bits) worked 
perfect, even better in it native plataform (win32).
Now I've reinstalled ubuntu, with 64bits and latest version (9.10), and I can't 
work with this Serial device properly. I can make connections and also talk 
to it with PuTTY , but the connection is really unstable. In addtion, I got 
ghosts ttyACMs, when the unstability happens.
ls /dev/ttyACM*
/dev/ttyACM0  /dev/ttyACM1  /dev/ttyACM2  /dev/ttyACM3
(note, there should be NO ttyACMs, this are all ghosts and this command was ran 
when the device was not connected)
Reconnecting the USB cable seems to make it work again, but the ghosts ttyACM 
still there, and a restart is need to clean up. In this case, the device will 
appear in /dev/ttyACM4, and I will be able to connect to it by just this tty.

I made a logfile analyze, in order to help in the correction of this
bug.. I attached the file named logfile_analyze.log, where I compiled
all logfiles in one file, keeping the important stuff just (you will
like it).

Just a summary I wrote (you can check this on logfile):

All this happens randomically, but always happen with the device on usb,
some times imediattly, sometimes take longer... Sometimes it just
disconnects and disappears (need to replug USB)...

This problem comes from nothing. Killing gnome panel sometimes solves the 
problem, but sometimes it cames freezed, and notting works. A restart is need.
Looks like it starts entering in an eternal looping and keeps loading resources 
infinitaly in a deadlock.
